Meet the 2022 incoming Alabama football transfers

Get to know Alabama football’s incoming transfers for the 2022 season!

Nick Saban is one of the greatest coaches in the game of football. At the collegiate level, he is known as one of the strongest recruiters, consistently landing top-tier high school talent from all across the nation. Now, with the NCAA transfer portal, Saban’s dominance is translating into recruiting active collegiate stars.

Numerous transfers have been welcomed in over the years and helped the team compete at the highest level possible.

The players that have joined the storied program have seen a boost in their playing abilities and draft stock. Most recently, wide receiver Jameson Williams transferred into Alabama after two years of minimal playing time at Ohio State. In one year with the Crimson Tide, he became national sensation and a top-15 pick in the 2022 NFL draft.

Heading into the 2022 season, Alabama has added five key players via the transfer portal that will likely have an immediate impact on the team.

Here’s who they are.

Eli Ricks, Jermaine Burton and Jahmyr Gibbs headline spring game storylines

The transfers will be on full display come Saturday.

The annual ‘A-Day’ spring game is set for Saturday and there are plenty of storylines to follow for this game. While many eyes will be on the wide receivers in this game as well as the offensive line, the transfers are going to be the biggest draw.

The addition of [autotag]Eli Ricks[/autotag] was a massive get for the Crimson Tide as they improve on the back end of the defense. Not to be outdone by new running back [autotag]Jahmyr Gibbs[/autotag] and wide receiver [autotag]Jermaine Burton[/autotag]. The latest addition won’t be suiting up for the scrimmage but [autotag]Tyler Steen[/autotag] figures to be an integral part of the offense in the trenches.

ESPN recently broke down the top storylines with Alabama’s focus being placed solely on the familiar faces in new places.

What ESPN says…

Nick Saban has been strategic when it comes to the transfer portal. Instead of going all out, he has utilized it more like the NFL does free agency, targeting specific needs. And, in what should be a surprise to exactly no one, he has landed some of the best players available. Remember LSU All-American cornerback Eli Ricks? He’s at Alabama now, effectively replacing Josh Jobe. How about Georgia Tech All-ACC running back/return specialist Jahmyr Gibbs? He’s at Alabama, too, filling in for Brian Robinson Jr. The Crimson Tide lost to Georgia in the CFP National Championship Game. A few weeks later, Saban signed the Bulldogs’ top receiver, Jermaine Burton, who should help make up for the loss of Jameson Williams and John Metchie. — Alex Scarborough

Alabama Morning Drive: What the addition of Tyler Steen means for the Tide

The latest news and notes involving the Alabama Crimson Tide on Wednesday morning.

Good morning, ‘Bama fans! Welcome back to another edition of Alabama Morning Drive. We have made it to Wednesday and are one step closer to Easter weekend.

We have a lot to unpack this morning here at Roll Tide Wire. We will first take a look at the Alabama baseball team and how they performed in the midweek. Then we will take a look at where former Alabama running back Camar Wheaton decided to transfer. Finally, we will take a little deeper look at what the addition of Tyler Steen means for the Crimson Tide.

Buckle up and let’s get right to it!

First…’Bama baseball is on the rise…

Vanderbilt transfer Tyler Steen to make decision early next week

With a decision coming early next, Vanderbilt transfer Tyler Steen has Alabama in his final four.

One of the nation’s most coveted offensive lineman transfers, Tyler Steen, has narrowed down his list of schools and will be making his transfer decision early next week according to a report by 247Sports.

Steen’s father told 247Sports that Tyler is now down to four schools, Alabama, LSU, Virginia, and Kentucky.

Steen was in Tuscaloosa last weekend for a visit with the Tide and Steen’s father said this about this visit…

“Alabama was great. I mean, what can you say about Alabama? It’s impressive. “It was very competitive at practice. It was up-tempo and aggressive. It was very, very impressive.”

Steen has started 32 games for the Commodores over the past three seasons and will have two years of eligibility remaining due to his extra COVID year.

After Alabama’s lackluster performance along the offensive line in 2021, Steen would be a welcomed sight in Tuscaloosa.

Vanderbilt transfer Tyler Steen will officially visit Alabama

Talented OT transfer Tyler Steen to visit the Crimson Tide

The recruiting season never ends and that doesn’t just include high school kids either. In the modern era of college football, the transfer portal has often taken center stage. This statement will manifest itself on Saturday, March 26, when Vanderbilt offensive tackle transfer Tyler Steen will make an official visit to Tuscaloosa.

Steen has already made visits to Kentucky, N.C. State, and LSU. And at the moment, all indications are that these schools are currently in a better position to land Steen. We will obviously see where things stand after Steen’s visit with the Tide.

Steen has started 32 games for the Commodores over the past three seasons and will have two years of eligibility remaining due to his extra COVID year.

The Alabama offensive line is certainly one of the biggest question marks this spring for the Tide and I am sure that will carry on over into fall camp. I don’t imagine coach Saban bringing Steen on board unless he believes he is a day one starter.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to monitor Alabama’s involvement with Steen throughout the process.

SEC OL transfer intends to visit LSU in March

Tyler Steen, a transfer from Vanderbilt, started all 12 games at left tackle for the Commodores last year.

Vanderbilt’s offensive tackle Tyler Steen entered the transfer portal on Jan. 11, and one of the schools he plans to visit LSU, according to a report from 247Sports’ Andrew Ivins. He also intends to visit Alabama, N.C State, and Penn State.

According to Ivins’ report, all of those trips are expected to take place during the month of March, though the exact dates haven’t yet been determined.

Last year, Steen started all 12 of Vanderbilt’s games at left tackle. According to Pro Football Focus, Steen had a 68.7 run-blocking grade and 59.9 pass-blocking grade.

Steen began the 2021 season slow, giving up a sack in each of his first three games, but he picked up and improved as the season went on.

He also played in all 12 games during his sophomore season at right tackle, and he was the only Commodore offensive lineman to start each game. He started his career on the defensive line, playing in four games on defense before being switched to the offensive line the next year.

This upcoming season will be Steen’s third full year as a starter, but he still has much to improve. As you can see, his blocking grades are not very good, but there is room for improvement. And with two more years of eligibility left, Steen has plenty of time to improve. Now, he must pick the right school with an excellent offensive line coach to enhance his skills.

Alabama reportedly showing interest in Vanderbilt OT transfer Tyler Steen

Alabama is showing interest in Vanderbilt offensive tackle transfer Tyler Steen

The transfer portal has become one of the most headline-dominating aspects of college football over the last couple of seasons. Alabama head coach Nick Saban has been very selective when targeting prospects from the portal.

It is now being reported that Vanderbilt offensive tackle transfer Tyler Steen will soon be taking a visit to Tuscaloosa.

Alabama will be replacing both of its starting tackles from last season in Evan Neal and Chris Owens but the Tide has recruited the tackle position so well that the Steen addition would be somewhat surprising. But who are we to question Nick Saban?

Steen has started 32 games for the Commodores over the past three seasons and has shown steady improvement throughout his entire career.

Stay tuned to Roll Tide Wire for all the latest on the Crimson Tide!
