The Brooklyn Nets have made some significant moves this offseason in an attempt to make themselves as competitive as possible for years to come. Even though they had one person in mind as the perfect player to trade, and he wants to go elsewhere, the Nets may be able to get something out of it after all.

According to Ian Begley of SNY, Brooklyn is open to receiving Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro as the result of being the third team in a trade where Portland Trail Blazers superstar Damian Lillard goes to the Heat. Begley reported on Saturday that the Nets were among the teams contacted to be the third team in any potential Lillard-to-Miami deal.

While Brooklyn would rather be getting Lillard in a trade, there were multiple reports over the weekend that Lillard essentially only wants to play for the Heat. So, it seems that Brooklyn’s next-best option is to be the third team in a potential Lillard trade and receive and possibly draft picks as well.

The Brooklyn Nets have been linked to Portland Trail Blazers superstar Damian Lillard ever since he showed up in person to watch Game 3 of Brooklyn’s first-round playoff series against the Philadelphia 76ers. However, it looks like the Nets are unlikely to be able to land Lillard in a trade, but they could still be part of it.

According to Ian Begley of SNY, Brooklyn is among the teams that have been contacted to be the potential third team in receive Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro in a Lillard to Miami trade. Begley mentions that the Trail Blazers are looking for a team to re-route Herro to.

While Lillard previously listed the Nets as one of his preferred trade destinations along with the Heat, it was reported earlier on Saturday that Lillard wants to play for Miami more than any other team. Portland reportedly wants picks and young players and Brooklyn could offer both, but it seems that Lillard’s mind is made up to be traded to the Heat.

Boston’s Blake Griffin has cameo in 2023 remake of ‘White Men Can’t Jump’

Griffin has a cameo in the new version featuring Sinqua Walls and Jack Harlow.

If you have seen the remake of the classic hoops flick “White Men Can’t Jump” recently, you might have noticed a familiar face playing a role in the new version of the 1992 classic starring Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson. Your eyes are not deceiving you!

Veteran Boston Celtics big man Blake Griffin has a cameo in the new version featuring Sinqua Walls and Jack Harlow, as well as a credit for executive producer. Ironically, another player for a team currently in the 2023 East finals who is not seeing much floor time, Miami Heat wing Tyler Herro also has a cameo in the movie.

Streaming exclusively on Hulu, the network describes the remake as a “modern retelling of the iconic 1992 film that celebrates the streetball hustling culture of Los Angeles.”

“Juggling tenuous relationships, financial pressures, and serious internal struggles, the two ballers-opposites who are seemingly miles apart- find that they might have more in common than they imagined possible.”

Mock trade sees Chicago Bulls land Tyler Herro

The Chicago Bulls have some big decisions to make this summer, and in this mock trade, one would involve landing Tyler Herro.

As the Chicago Bulls embark on a telling offseason, their decision-making will reveal the true direction of the franchise. After two years of middling success and plenty of disappointment, they find themselves at a crossroads. On the one hand, they could keep the team intact and move toward improvement; on the other, they could tear down the roster and start from scratch.

Arturas Karnisoavs seems intent on following the latter of the two paths. He’s been clear about his desire to compete with the current core. In turn, it’s more likely that the Bulls make trades to bolster their roster rather than trade their stars for picks and young assets. But that’s not exactly what Bleacher Report’s Zach Buckley’s latest article suggests.

In his latest mock trade, Buckley has the Bulls making a serious splash, trading Zach LaVine, but not for a haul of draft assets. Instead, he thinks they could land Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro.

Tyler Herro somehow took a 3-pointer despite two broken fingers on his shooting hand

This looked so incredibly painful.

Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro dove for a loose ball in the first half during the first game of the postseason against the Milwaukee Bucks.

Herro did not gain possession of the ball, however, and instead clearly injured his finger on the hustle play. While it seemed like he intended to run to the locker room for medical attention, there was no stoppage in play and as the clock continued, he instead found himself spotting up on the perimeter.

After a few passes, his teammates suddenly realized he was wide open on the corner for an uncontested jumper off the catch.

Herro shot 45 percent on corner 3-pointers this season, per Cleaning the Glass, which was one of the best shooting percentages in the league from that zone.

It was easy to understand why Gabe Vincent threw him the pass, especially if he didn’t realize the severity of the injury. But what was harder to understand, however, is why Herro still took the shot despite suffering through agonizing pain.

Herro missed the remainder of the game and league insider Chris Haynes later revealed that Herro broke the middle finger and ringer finger of his shooting hand. He is expected to miss four-to-six weeks for a full recovery.

This is likely the same injury suffered by Detroit’s Marvin Bagley III and Minnesota’s Jaden McDaniels.

Heat’s Tyler Herro explains what Sixers are getting in Dewayne Dedmon

Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro explains what the Philadelphia 76ers are getting in Dewayne Dedmon.

PHILADELPHIA — The Philadelphia 76ers made a move in the buyout market after the trade deadline when they brought in Dewayne Dedmon on a deal for the rest of the season. He stands 7 feet tall, so he brings some much-needed size to the backup big man spot.

While Dedmon has not yet played for the Sixers due to left hip tightness, Philadelphia expects him to bring a toughness and a veteran presence to the bench. In 30 games with the Miami Heat, he averaged 5.7 points and 3.6 rebounds before being sent to the San Antonio Spurs in a deal and was waived.

With the Sixers taking on the Heat on Monday at home to begin a home-and-home series, Dedmon’s former teammate, Tyler Herro, was excited for him.

“That’s my guy, Dedmon!” exclaimed Herro. “That’s my dog. I’m sad he’s gone, but he’s another dude that’s just a good leader, a good teammate, a good leader in the locker room. He’s gonna help the Sixers for sure. He’ll definitely help.”

Time will tell when Dedmon will make his debut for the Sixers, but one has to figure that he will make some type of difference off the bench. While Paul Reed has been playing well lately, the Sixers need some experience and size in the playoffs and Dedmon has both.

Heat guard Tyler Herro gives his respects to Sixers’ Tyrese Maxey

Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro gives his respect to Philadelphia 76ers guard Tyrese Maxey for his talent.

PHILADELPHIA–Philadelphia 76ers guard Tyrese Maxey is one of the up-and-coming young guards in the NBA. He has been having his ups and downs coming off the bench for the Sixers, but he is still averaging 19.5 points on the season.

He scored 23 points, with 14 coming in the third quarter, in Monday’s loss to the Miami Heat. Maxey was scintillating in the third as he helped Philadelphia work its way back into the game, but it just wasn’t enough to come away with the win.

With that being said, Maxey was able to break out of a slump since the break. He had two subpar games against the Memphis Grizzlies and the Boston Celtics coming out of the break and Monday’s contest shows what type of talent he is.

“Tyrese is just a great player,” said Heat guard Tyler Herro. “A great young player. I seen early on he was starting and now he’s coming off the bench after his injury and it’s not easy going from a starting role. He’s capable of being a starter on any team in the league.”

Herro was coming off the bench for the Heat in the past and it allowed him to win the 6th Man of the Year award in 2022. Now, he starts for Miami, but he understands how tough it can be for a guy like Maxey to change roles on a team.

“I’m sure it’s not easy going from a starter to a bench role,” Herro added. “Especially, if you’re someone like him, but he’s a great player. I’m excited to watch him continue to grow. He’s a Kentucky guy as well.”

Maxey is averaging 15.9 points off the bench compared to 22.5 points as a starter. His 3-point shooting is also down from 39.6% as a starter to 36.6% as a reserve, but he is such a mentally tough player that he will eventually figure this out for Philadelphia.

Multiple members of the Heat give love, respect to Sixers’ PJ Tucker

Multiple members of the Miami Heat give their love and respect to Philadelphia 76ers veteran PJ Tucker.

PHILADELPHIA–The Philadelphia 76ers made the move in the offseason to go out and PJ Tucker in free agency and sign him to a 3-year $33 million deal early in the free agency period. The Sixers wanted to bring in the tough-minded veteran in order to help push them over the top.

Tucker spent the 2021-22 season with the Miami Heat and he had a big year for them. He averaged 7.6 points and 5.5 rebounds along with 2.1 assists while shooting 41.5% from deep and 48.4% from the floor.

In Wednesday’s 101-99 loss to those Heat, Tucker had eight points and he was 2-for-2 on corner triples. His former Heat teammates had a lot to say as they gave love and respect to what Tucker brings to the table.

Jabari Smith Jr. breaks out as Rockets lose another heartbreaker

Jabari Smith Jr. (22 points, 8 rebounds, 50% FG) led a strong #Rockets effort in Miami, and particularly on defense, but it wasn’t enough to avoid another last-second loss.

For a second straight game, the Rockets lost a heartbreaker to a probable playoffs-bound opponent with only 0.3 seconds left. This time, it came on a lob to Jimmy Butler from an out-of-bounds play, giving Miami a 97-95 home win (box score) over Houston on Friday.

But for the young and rebuilding Rockets, who lost their fifth straight game, there was a lot to otherwise like. For starters, the same group that had given up 130 or more points in three consecutive games buckled down defensively to hold the Heat below 100 points.’

On both ends of the court, it was arguably the best professional game to date for rookie forward Jabari Smith Jr., who had 22 points, 8 rebounds, and a key blocked shot in 34 minutes. Smith connected on 8-of-16 shots (50.0%) overall, including 3-of-9 on 3-pointers (33.3%) and all three of his free throws. Those included two in the game’s final minute to tie the game under immense pressure.

Tyler Herro led the Heat (31-25) with 31 points, 9 rebounds, and 8 assists on 11-of-20 shooting (55.0%), including 5-of-10 on 3-pointers.

Other key statistics for the Rockets (13-43) included:

  • KJ Martin: 17 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, 2 blocks, 5 turnovers; 6-of-9 shooting (66.7%), 1-of-3 on 3-pointers (33.3%)
  • Alperen Sengun: 12 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 4 turnovers; 3-of-9 shooting (33.3%)
  • Jalen Green: 11 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals, 4 turnoers: 5-of-19 shooting (26.3%), 0-of-9 on 3-pointers
