Former Alabama TE Ty Lockwood to transfer to Boston College

Former Alabama TE Ty Lockwood teaming up with former Crimson Tide OC Bill O’Brien at Boston College.

After entering the NCAA transfer portal on Saturday, former Alabama Crimson Tide TE Ty Lockwood has announced that he will continue his collegiate career with Boston College. Lockwood will have a chance to reunite with QB Dylan Lonergan who also departed from Tuscaloosa this off-season.

Former Alabama offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien took over the Boston College job last February and guided them to a 7-6 record in his first year and clearly still has some connections in Tuscaloosa. Both Lockwood and Lonergan are massive additions for the Golden Eagles and will likely compete for starting roles.

Lockwood was a four-star recruit coming out of high school, but never truly cracked into Alabama’s rotation. He finishes his time in Tuscaloosa with just one reception for five yards and still has three years of eligibility remaining.

Alabama TE Ty Lockwood to enter the transfer portal

Alabama to lose some depth at TE as Ty Lockwood intends to enter the transfer portal.

The departures continue for Kalen DeBoer and the Alabama Crimson Tide as TE Ty Lockwood announced today that he intends to enter the transfer portal. Senior Josh Cuevas will likely be the starter for the 2025 season, so Lockwood’s departure hurts the depth more than anything. Behind Cuevas, Alabama still has Danny Lewis and Jay Lindsey on scholarship, with Kaleb Edwards and Marshall Pritchett as incoming recruits.

Coming out of Independence HS in Tennessee, Lockwood was a four-star recruit in the 2023 recruiting cycle and the No. 12 ranked TE. During his time in Tuscaloosa, he has just one reception for five yards. Lockwood was initially committed to Ohio State in high school before flipping to Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide, so I wouldn’t be shocked if the Buckeyes are players for him in the portal.

Starting right tackle Elijah Pritchett also decided to enter the transfer portal today, but I am excited to see the changes DeBoer makes to the roster ahead of the start of the 2025 season. Alabama comes out of the gates hot too as they travel to Tallahassee to take on Florida State in Week 1.

Alabama football names its Student-Athletes of the Week

Lockwood, Alinen, and Smith earn this week’s Student-Athletes of the Week!

As the 2023 SEC media days wrap up on Thursday from Nashville, Tennessee, the Alabama football team announced this week’s Student-Athletes of the Week.

This week’s recipients are freshman tight end Ty Lockwood, freshman offensive lineman Olaus Alinen, and junior defensive back DeVonta Smith.

Lockwood is entering his first season with the Crimson Tide and although he has a promising future, Lockwood doesn’t project to be a part of the primary rotation at tight end this fall.

Alinen is a large freshman offensive lineman who is a native of Finland and has worked his way into the second-team offensive line. While it is not likely that Alinen becomes a starter in 2023, his is almost certainly going to be a factor moving forward.

Smith is a talented defensive back who has seen playing time mostly on special teams. Smith was expected to compete for a starting spot in the defensive backfield in 2023, but an injury sidelined him this spring and has put him behind some other options. But I wouldn’t count out Smith having a role this fall.

Congratulations to these young men for their outstanding work in the classroom and on the gridiron.

Trio of Alabama newcomers earn the honor of Student-Athletes of the Week!

Nick Saban and the Alabama football are entering their second week of spring football practice and Tide fans are foaming at the mouth for some football-related content.

On Monday, the Crimson Tide released this week’s recipients of the Student-Athletes of the Week! A trio of newcomers earned the honor this week, freshman tight end Ty Lockwood, freshman quarterback Dylan Lonergan, and Georgia transfer linebacker Trezmen Marshall.

Both Lockwood and Lonergan are expected to provide depth this season and most likely redshirt while Marshall is in a prime position to take over one of the starting inside linebacker roles in the Kevin Steele defense.

Congratulations to these three newcomers to the Crimson Tide!

2023 4-star TE Ty Lockwood officially signs with Alabama

2023 four-star tight end Ty Lockwood officially signed with the Tide on Wednesday. He had been committed to Alabama since August.

Four-star tight end Ty Lockwood of the 2023 class made things official as he signed his National Letter of Intent to Alabama on Wednesday morning. The Tennessee native had been committed to the Tide since August.

Lockwood is ranked as the No. 235 overall recruit in the country, according to 247Sports’ Composite Rankings. He is listed as 6-foot-5, 225 pounds. With Alabama starter Cam Latu heading to the NFL, Lockwood could earn some playing time at the tight end position.

He possesses a large catch radius and can be a vertical threat for the Tide to utilize in their offense. This is a good addition to the Tide’s class.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to cover Alabama football and the early signing period as more commits sign their national letters of intent.

Tight end Ty Lockwood flips from Ohio State to Alabama

In case you missed it, Ohio State received bad news again on the recruiting front Tuesday. #GoBucks

It’s been a bizarre couple of weeks for the Ohio State football team and its recruiting efforts. The Buckeyes missed out on some pretty high-profile targets they thought they had a good chance of landing, had a four-star corner de-commit, followed by this.

On Tuesday, four-star 2023 tight end commit Ty Lockwood announced his decision to de-commit from Ohio State and flip over to Alabama. At 6-foot, 5-inches, and 225 pounds, Lockwood was the first player to commit to OSU’s 2023 class and a tireless peer recruiter that seemingly helped sell the Buckeye program. He is rated as the No. 9 tight end and 141st overall prospect in the recruiting cycle according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

It’s just another turn of events in what has been one zany recruiting class thus far. Lockwood seemed to be one of the most locked-in recruits in the class. However, it didn’t take long for that to change after he received an offer from Alabama and visited Tuscaloosa.

With the news, Ohio State is now down to 18 commitments for the 2023 class and has dropped to the No. 4 spot in the updated 247Sports Team Composite Rankings.

Hang tight, because there could be some more moving, shaking, and unpredictable twists and turns with this recruiting class.

Alabama flips Ohio State commit and lands 2023 TE Ty Lockwood

2023 TE and Ohio State commit Ty Lockwood announced that he was flipping his commitment to Alabama on Tuesday.

Alabama recently extended an offer to Ohio State commit and 2023 tight end prospect Ty Lockwood. After being committed to the Buckeyes for almost a year, Lockwood flipped his commitment to Alabama. He announced the news via his Twitter page.

Lockwood is a great addition to Alabama’s 2023 recruiting class. Now, the coaching staff has found its tight end commit for the class, which is a massive pickup.

Here is what Lockwood had to say regarding his decision to flip his commitment to Alabama:

“After much discussion and prayer, my family and I have decided that it would be best to decommit from Ohio State University. I take commitment and loyalty very seriously, but it’s the right choice I needed to make for my future and my family. With that being said, I’m flipping my commitment to the University of Alabama. I look forward to what the future brings and how I can develop as a player and person under Coach Saban and Coach Cox.  Roll Tide!”

Lockwood is the 18th commit for Alabama’s 2023 recruiting class. Now, Alabama has the No. 1 overall recruiting class, according to 247Sports’ recruiting rankings.

Alabama Morning Drive: Tide lands commitment No. 17 in class of 2023

Alabama starts the month of August off with a bang landing a commitment from four-star DL Hunter Osborne.

Good morning, Tide fans! Welcome to our Tuesday edition of Alabama Morning Drive. I hope each of you has had a great start to the work week as we continue to inch closer and closer to the start of fall camp.

[autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] and Alabama had a tremendous month of July on the recruiting trail and the staff in Tuscaloosa carried that right over into the month of August.

On Monday evening, four-star defensive lineman [autotag]Hunter Osborne[/autotag] announced his commitment to Alabama giving the Crimson Tide its seventeenth commitment for the class of 2023.

Osborne is the No. 113 overall player and No. 12 defensive lineman in the nation according to On3’s consensus rankings.

Let’s take a look at a few other stories that Alabama fans should be monitoring this morning.
