Ty Jerome to not participate in media day, will work with Thunder to determine future

Ty Jerome is entering his fourth season in the league.

Oklahoma City Thunder guard Ty Jerome will not participate in media day, per Royce Young.

Jerome and the Thunder are working together to determine his future with the team.

The 25-year-old is entering his fourth season in the league and third with the Thunder. In 112 career games, Jerome has averaged 7.1 points, 1.9 rebounds and 2.4 assists on 37.8% shooting.

The Thunder acquired Jerome in the Chris Paul trade with the Phoenix Suns.

With the Thunder having plenty of young guards on the roster, Jerome is unlikely to receive consistent rotation minutes this season as he tries to earn a second contract.

(Editor’s note: We are starting individual grades for all players from the 2021-22 Oklahoma City Thunder. To access other reviews as part of this ongoing series, click here.)

With the 2021-22 regular season now officially in the books, the Oklahoma City Thunder (24-58) finished their season with the fourth-best lottery odds. This means it is now time for individual player grades for all 26 players who suited up for the team this season during the 82 games. The grades will be determined by what the season expectations were for each player and how they lived up to them.

The fourteenth player in the installment is Ty Jerome, whose season was cut short due to sports hernia removal surgery.

OKC Thunder news: Lu Dort, Mike Muscala, Ty Jerome all undergo season-ending surgeries

The Oklahoma City Thunder announced on Tuesday that Lu Dort, Mike Muscala and Ty Jerome have all undergone season-ending surgeries.

The Oklahoma City Thunder announced on Tuesday that Lu Dort, Mike Muscala and Ty Jerome have all undergone season-ending surgeries. All three have been ruled out of games since before the All-Star break.

Dort underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum on his left shoulder in Los Angeles. Muscala underwent an arthroscopic procedure and surgery to repair ankle ligament damage in Green Bay. Jerome underwent surgery to address a sports hernia in Philadelphia.

Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault said the NFL Combine delayed the consultations of Lu Dort, Mike Muscala and Ty Jerome with specialists on their respective injuries. Daigneault also said that all three will stay in their respective cities where they underwent surgery for a minute but thinks that all three should return to Oklahoma City before the season ends.

“Surgery is not Plan A. If you’re going to surgery, there’s a reason for it,” said Daigneault. “If we could’ve rehab it and avoid surgery, that’s what we would like to do.”

Dort finished the season averaging a career-high 17.2 points and 4.2 rebounds in 51 games. Muscala finished the season averaging eight points on a career-high 42.9 percent from three in 43 games. Jerome finished the season averaging 7.1 points and 2.3 assists in 48 games.

OKC Thunder player grades: Giddey, Mann shine in MSG win over the Knicks, 127-123

The rookie guards had their best games of the season with the lights shining the brightest at MSG

Wow! What a great game for the Oklahoma City Thunder. You know, the entire point of this season is to lose as many games as possible to have as high of lottery odds they can possibly get. But when the Thunder win games like this — off the backs of their young players — it’s really hard to complain about the win and how it makes the team’s lottery odds a little bit worse.

The Thunder were able to enter the Mecca of Basketball and leave with a win over the New York Knicks, 127-123, in overtime as they shatter the hearts of the home crowd. The trio of Josh Giddey, Tre Mann and Darius Bazley combined for 81 of the Thunder’s 127 points. The rookie guards were phenomenal this game as Giddey and Mann each had their best games of the season by far with Giddey getting a 28-point triple-double and Mann scoring his first 30 piece of his career.

In terms of the Knicks, Julius Randle also finished with a 30 point, 13 rebound and 10 assist triple double and Evan Fournier added 29 points.

This was a very fun win for the Thunder as its top two rookies had their best games of the season while another one of its young pieces also had a great game as he turns the other corner of his season. Let’s take a look at player grades.

OKC Thunder player grades: Poku, Theo shine in otherwise forgettable loss to Raptors, 117-98

Thunder provide a little bit of a throwback game to last season with Poku and Theo playing major minutes.

On the eve of the NBA trade deadline, the Oklahoma City Thunder fall to the Toronto Raptors, 117-98. The Thunder’s losing streak extends to three games.

The Raptors essentially had control throughout this entire, leading by 12 points after the first quarter. The Thunder were able to make interesting and not a straight-up blowout, but the final result never really felt threatened.

Overall, the Thunder’s scoring distribution was very evenly spread as six players finished with double-digit points with no one scoring more than 18 points.

This was a solid performance for Aleksej Pokusevski and Theo Maledon — two guys who have struggled all season long. It was a nice positive sign to see the sophomore players have one of their best games of the season.

But besides that, this was a very meh game for the Thunder as bigger things are on the horizon with the trade deadline less than 24 hours away. It’ll be interesting to see what moves the team makes as they have at least one player with trade interest. Let’s take a look at player grades.

OKC Thunder player grades: Lu Dort, Josh Giddey leads team to third-straight win

The Thunder were able to extend its winning streak to three games as they defeat the Trail Blazers for a second time in a five-day span.

The Oklahoma City Thunder were able to make it two-for-two this week in terms of wins over the Portland Trail Blazers as they win one on the road against their divisional rival, 96-93. The Trail Blazers had a chance to tie the game after inbounding the ball full court with 3.1 seconds left but Anfernee Simons missed a fairly decent look from deep and the buzzer sounded.

This win extends the Thunder’s winning streak to three games — all without Shai Gilgeous-Alexander — behind the backs of Lu Dort and Josh Giddey. Dort continues to step up and carry the scoring load as he led the team with 23 points while Giddey added 16 points and seven rebounds.

For the Trail Blazers, Simons and CJ McCollum led the team in scoring with 19 points each while Jusuf Nurkic contributed with a 14 point and 16 rebound double-double. Let’s take a look at player grades in this win.

OKC Thunder player grades: Thunder complete 18-point comeback in win against Blazers

The Thunder snap its seven-game losing streak as the Blazers struggle to score just 81 points.

In their first of at least 10 games without Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the Oklahoma City Thunder were able to complete the 18-point comeback against the Portland Trail Blazers in a 98-81 win. The Thunder were really able to turn things around in the second half as they outscored the Trail Blazers, 59-34.

The Thunder defense deserves a lot of credit. It’s easy to dunk on the Trail Blazers for failing to beat a rebuilding Thunder team without its best player, but keep in mind that they averaged 117.7 points in its last three games.

It was an evenly distributed scoring game for the Thunder as four players finished with double-digit scoring with no one exceeding 18 points. Just like Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault has preached since Gilgeous-Alexander went down, no one single person is going to make up for his production and it’s going to take a collective effort where everybody excels in their role. That was clearly the case in Monday’s win over the Trail Blazers. 22 of its 35 made field goals were assisted on. Now it’s time to see if this can carry over for the remainder of Gilgeous-Alexander’s absence. Let’s take a look at player grades.
