Packers host tryout for UDFA offensive tackle Jarrid Williams

Rookie OT Jarrid Williams, an undrafted free agent from Miami, tried out for the Packers on Friday. The team could use depth at OT.

With injuries at offensive tackle, the Green Bay Packers hosted a tryout for a rookie undrafted free agent.

According to the league’s transaction report, the Packers had Jarrid Williams (6-6, 325) in town for a tryout on Friday.

Williams, a Texas native, went undrafted out of Miami in 2022. He spent time with the Philadelphia Eagles this summer but was released earlier this week.

A transfer from Houston, Williams started 10 games at right tackle for the Hurricanes in 2021. He finished his collegiate career with 38 total starts over 50 games.

Williams has incredible length (35 7/8″ arms, 84 3/4″ wingspan) and good lower-body explosiveness (31″ vertical, 8-9 broad jump). His Relative Athletic Score is 7.63 out of 10.0.

Williams missed the 2019 season with a medical redshirt and is already 25 years old.

Coach Matt LaFleur admitted numbers are low at offensive tackle, although the team did get back rookie Rasheed Walker on Friday. David Bakhtiari and Elgton Jenkins remain on the PUP list.

The Packers are at 90 players on the roster and would need to clear a spot to sign Williams, but no transaction was announced as of Friday. LaFleur’s team  practices again on Saturday morning.

Packers work out veteran wide receiver John Brown

Veteran WR John Brown worked out for the Green Bay Packers.

The Green Bay Packers worked out veteran wide receiver John Brown, according to Field Yates of ESPN.

No signing was reported on the league’s transaction report on Wednesday.

Brown, who has played in 100 career games, appeared in just four games with four different teams last season. He didn’t catch a pass on three targets.

Matt LaFleur and the Packers could be interested in seeing if Brown is healthy and if his speed can add something to the team’s receiver room to start training camp.

We here at Packers Wire originally suggested the idea of signing Brown in free agency in February of 2019.

Brown signed with the Buffalo Bills a month later and was a difference-maker, catching 72 passes for 1,060 yards and six touchdowns during the 2019 season. He played in just nine games due to injury in 2020 and then couldn’t get on the field in 2021.

Brown, a third-round pick of the Arizona Cardinals in 2014, is now 32 years old.

Former Wisconsin RB, Super Bowl hero receives tryout with the New York Giants

Just four years ago, former Wisconsin running back Corey Clement was playing on the world’s biggest stage and helping the Philadelphia

Just four years ago, former Wisconsin running back Corey Clement was playing on the world’s biggest stage and helping the Philadelphia Eagles to their first-ever Super Bowl victory.

He had 100 receiving yards and a touchdown in the contest. And without his play, the Eagles most likely would’ve fallen to Tom Brady and the New England Patriots.

Well, it’s been tough sailing for the Wisconsin product since that point, playing in 30 games in three years since 2017 and carrying the football only 89 times for 334 yards.

With no spot left for him on the Eagles’ roster, Clement is now trying out with the division rival New York Giants.

LeBron James says he would have made Seattle Seahawks in 2011 try out

Basketball star LeBron James says he would have made the Seattle Seahawks or other NFL team had he tried out in 2011 during the NBA lockout.

The Seattle Seahawks may very well be looking for another tight end now that veteran Greg Olsen has retired. If this was the 2011 season, one very big name comes to mind.

LeBron James, in a recent interview with The Athletic, said he received a jersey and a workout invitation from the Seattle Seahawks during the 2011 NBA lockout. James acknowledged he also had an offer to try out for the Cowboys and considered his hometown Browns as well.

“I would have made the team,” James told The Athletic. “I would have tried out, but I would have made the team. One thing about it, I don’t mind working for something, so if I would have had to try out for the Cowboys or the Seahawks, or if I’d have stayed home and went back home to Cleveland, I’d have tried (out), but I would have made the team.

“I just know what I’m capable of doing on the football field. Especially at that age.”

James was 26 at the time he considered adding professional football to his resume. Heading into the 2021 season, the Seahawks might have to look elsewhere for their star tight end of the future.

Report: Lions to re-sign WR Chris Lacy

Dave Birkett of the Free Press is reporting that the Detroit Lions are re-signing wide receiver Chris Lacy.

Welcome back, Chris Lacy.

Just 10 days ago, Lacy — who spent the last two years with the Lions — was cut from the 90-man roster as the team reduced the roster to 80-players as part of the new training camp COVID-19 rules adjustments.

It unclear why Lacy, who was on the roster bubble after two stints on the active roster last year, would be released at this time. But after clearing waivers and a week on the open market with no takers, Lacy returned to Allen Park for a workout on Sunday.

Now, the Lions appear willing to give him another shot as Dave Birkett of the Free Press is reporting that the Lions are re-signing Lacy.

This move was announced after the day’s transactions and the Lions have yet to confirm the signing, so no corresponding move was announced at this time.

With practice starting up again tomorrow, if Lacy has already passed through testing COVID-19 protocols, it’s possible he may be eligible to take the field with the rest of the team. If that is the case, expect the Lions to acknowledge the move in the morning along with the corresponding decision.
