CBS names Ohio State running back room one of the best in the country

CBS names Ohio State running back room best in country #GoBucks

We are at peak off-season, where the portal is closed and rosters are mostly set. Most of the news circling the college football community is either in regard to recruiting or someone’s list or ranking. CBS Sports has provided us entertainment in the latter category with Tom Fornelli of CBS Sports releasing his top five running back rooms with Ohio State headlining the group.

Even the most staunch Buckeye hater would have to agree that a backfield composed of TreVeyon Henderson and Quinshon Judkins is pretty insane. Mix those two All-American candidates with a consensus top ten back in the 2024 recruiting class in James Peoples, and its hard to find a weakness.

Georgia was listed at No. 2, and this also makes sense with the addition of Trevor Etienne. Kansas makes an appearance at No. 3, due to the return of Devin Neal. The most controversial pick of the bunch is probably Texas at No. 3 despite the loss of Jonathan Brooks. UCF earns the nod at No. 5 in large part due to the addition of Peny Boone through the portal.

Ohio State lands nine players on PFF top ten positional rankings

Ohio State lands nine players on PFF top ten positional rankings #GoBucks

Pro Football Focus (PFF) has been releasing their top ten positional rankings for returning players and Ohio State leads the way with nine players making an appearance on their respective positional list.

Of the ten running backs ranked, two Buckeyes make the list with both Quinshon Judkins and TreVeyon Henderson making the cut. Henderson finished last season with a PFF receiving grade of 73.6, which led all Big Ten backs. Judkins leads all current Power Five backs with 2,726 rushing yards since 2022.

Emeka Egbuka also made his positional list at wide receiver and will have an opportunity to be the number-one option in Columbus after the departure of Marvin Harrison Jr. Donovan Jackson is the lone offensive lineman to make his positional list.

Both Jack Sawyer and J.T. Tuimoloau made the top ten list for the edge defenders and it makes sense considering Sawyer was the only edge last season to earn grades 85 or higher as both a pass-rusher and run-defender. Tuimoloau is fourth among Big Ten edge defenders the last two seasons with 69 pressures. Tyleik Williams also made his positional list after tallying 26 run-defense stops, which was second among Big Ten defensive tackles.

Denzel Burke also made the cut after forcing 10 incompletions this past season, which was 20th among Power Five cornerbacks. Caleb Downs was also the number one returning safety according to PFF.

Social media reacts to Ohio State RB TreVeyon Henderson’s Touchdown vs. Rutgers

Social media reacts to TreVeyon Henderson Touchdown vs. Rutgers #GoBucks

The [autotag]Ohio State football[/autotag] team is currently defeating the Rutgers Scarlet Knights to the tune of 21-9 with some time left in the third quarter and the most recent touchdown was courtesy of an impressive rushing touchdown by [autotag]TreVeyon Henderson[/autotag].

It is pretty obvious how much of a game-changer Henderson is and watching him work while healthy is awe-inspiring. Henderson currently has 15 carries for 84 yards and a touchdown. Henderson has also added another 15 yards receiving to his total.

Although the Buckeyes have had an extremely frustrating slow start, they seem to be slowly taking control of the game and Henderson’s day doesn’t appear to be done.

Ohio State football issues availability report for Penn State game, key players out or questionable

Ohio State football issues availability report for Penn State game #GoBucks

The fine folks with the Ohio State Football team have issued the availability report for the game against the Penn State Nittany Lions and we do not have good news. Ohio State will be competing today with the possibility of its top running back and best cornerback, which makes this game an even larger question mark.

To add salt to the around, Emeka Egbuka is still listed as questionable as well, but my money is on the elite receiver taking the field against a top Big Ten foe.

We all witnessed the Denzel Burke injury last week against Purdue and him missing the Penn State contest is a surprise, but not that shocking. The loss of Burke may not be as devastating as we think though with Jordan Hancock and Jermaine Mathews playing extremely well. Here is the list in its entirety:

QUESTIONABLE

  • WR Emeka Egbuka
  • RB TreVeyon Henderson
OUT
  • WR Nolan Baudo
  • CB Denzel Burke
  • RB Timothy Caffey
  • WR Kyion Grayes
  • TE Zak Herbstreit
  • TE Joe Royer
  • DT Will Smith Jr.
  • WR Reis Stocksdale
  • SAF Kourt Williams II

Ohio State football issues availability report for Purdue game, two key players out

Ohio State football issues availability report for Purdue Boilermakers #GoBucks

The fine folks with the Ohio State Football team have issued the availability report for the game against the Purdue Boilermakers. We were already aware of of star receiver, Emeka Egbuka not making the trip, but a surprising name also listed as out is Miyan Williams.

It’s a shame Williams is out, because he was just getting healthy from an injury suffered earlier this season, but this injury is especially alarming considering TreVeyon Henderson is also listed on the injury report as questionable. Ryan Day alluded to Henderson being back for this one, but we’ll have to see. With two running backs out, the Buckeyes will lean on Chip Trayanum and maybe we will get an appearance of Dallan Hayden.

QUESTIONABLE

  • RB TreVeyon Henderson
  • DT Jaden McKenzie

OUT

  • WR Nolan Baudo
  • RB Timothy Caffey
  • WR Emeka Egbuka
  • WR Kiyon Grayes
  • TE Zak Herbstreit
  • TE Joe Royer
  • DT Will Smith Jr.
  • WR Reis Stocksdale
  • SAF Kourt Williams II
  • RB Miyan Williams

Ohio State football issues availability report for Maryland Terrapins

Ohio State football issues availability report for Maryland Terrapins #GoBucks

The fine folks with the Ohio State Football team have issued the availability report for the game against the Maryland Terrapins and an alarming player for the Buckeyes was listed as out. TreVeyon Henderson, the current leading rusher, will be missing the game against the undefeated Terps, which is a bit of a surprise after his explosive game against Notre Dame where he ran for 104 yards and a touchdown.

Although it should be good news that only one starter is listed on the injury report, it is not ideal that the starter is one of the key offensive cogs for Ohio State. With that said, Ohio State is favored by more than two touchdowns and shouldn’t need Henderson to finish off Maryland, so there is a chance that the coaching staff is just being extremely careful. The following is the rest of the injury report:

OUT

  • WR Nolan Baudo
  • CB Jyaire Brown
  • WR Kyion Grayes
  • RB TreVeyon Henderson
  • LB/DE Arvell Reese
  • DL Will Smith Jr.
  • WR Reis Scottsdale

Social media reacts to TreVeyon Henderson’s second touchdown for Ohio State

A pair of TD’s for Henderson on the day #GoBucks

After wondering what [autotag]Ohio State football[/autotag]’s offense would look like with [autotag]Kyle McCord[/autotag] as the unquestioned starter, we are starting to see what it could be against Western Kentucky.

The Buckeyes are using the run to set up the pass, which is a bit of a contrast from what we have seen in previous years. It makes sense, when you have a healthy back like [autotag]TreVeyon Henderon[/autotag], who had already scored a touchdown on the day.

Make that two, as the junior Buckeye running back found the end zone once again to give Ohio State a 14-3 lead over the Hilltoppers. Check out below how social media reacted to the scoring play.

Who earned Buckeye leaves in Ohio State football’s win over Youngstown State

Who earned their helmet decals for Ohio State? #GoBucks

[autotag]Ohio State football[/autotag], in my eyes, has the most recognizable helmets in college football, and it has a lot to due with the Buckeye leaf decals that are added on throughout the season.

The Buckeye players have to earn their leaves, and it’s not just about who dominates the game. Some of them are given for team achievements, while some of them are individual. Some are for effort throughout the week of practice, potentially working on the scout team.

For our sake, this is all individual, as I have selected which Buckeyes earned their helmet decals during Ohio State’s win over Youngstown State.
