The lemonade flight from The Original Lemonade House Grille in Poplar Bluff, Missouri.

We’ve been keeping our eye on the food industry for decades, so why stop now?

There’s a lot of attention turning to food manufacturers and the behind-the-scenes of food. There’s also interest in food as a travel incentive, particularly as the number of retiree’s grows, and—according to a Forrester report, travel is reportedly back to pre-pandemic levels.

In addition, while we’ve called out recalls before, the instances appear to be growing.

So, let’s explore what we see ahead. Here are the first five; the remainder will follow shortly.

  1. Recalls Upon Recalls. Is it just us, or are the recalls coming faster these days? You can check it out at the United States Food & Drug Administration’s site. Hamburger meat, carrots, and eggs have been a few of the products singled out recently. Some of this is a matter of statistics, and there is a thoughtful article on the subject found at Food Safety News. Given the increased reporting (for whatever reason), it’s worth digging into this for 2025 so we understand what’s happening in food safety.
  2. Transparent Ingredients. As the call goes out for healthier ingredients, even those manufacturers who haven’t gotten on the band wagon before will now be ready to innovate. This means several things, including increased openness with the public about ingredients, and possibly a new discourse about how to achieve health goals as a nation. Some of this is a response to the industry awareness of government health policy, of course, but some of this has been evolving over recent years and is coming to a head. To read more, we recommend this impact article from Bakery and Snacks.
  3. Kitchen Warehousing. A few years ago, there was a trend where people offered their garages and extra space as “warehouses” – sort of the Airbnb of storage, you might say. That has transitioned into people filling their own space and calling it “kitchen warehousing.” This new warehousing is in your own home, and it’s not for really for food but for decorating. Picture yourself pulling from your shelves like a tablescape designer. After all, the idea of storage now goes beyond your Rubbermaid or old Tupperware containers, and into shelving and moveable racks. Have a closet that used to be crammed full of unused coats? Donate them and use the space for appliances that aren’t in daily use. Your stand mixer, air fryer, blender, dehydrator, seasonal decorations, all qualify for self-warehousing. After all, simplifying your life comes down to living with the things you love, and clearing out the rest, right?
  4. Beverage Playground. You know mocktails have hit mainstream when a hotel happy hour offers them, like our recent experience at an Embassy Suites in Chicago. But even more interesting is the types of flavor combinations. Wine Enthusiast is calling out tropical flavors, while we’re watching soda companies experiment with seasonal and limited time offerings featuring unique taste combos, like Coke Spiced (we liked it, but they’ve already pulled it in favor of a new idea). The KerryDigest sees sensory pairing with flavor, as do we. And, Mintel says it well when it writes, “…the industry will need to encourage consumers to welcome and trust the new origins, ingredients and flavours that will emerge locally and globally.” So, watch for the unusual and try it before they change it again!

  1. Culinary Travel. You are going to think The Food Channel has a thing about this, because we’ve talked often about the influence of food on travel planning. Sur la Table must agree because they’ve come out with Culinary Journeys and they sound amazing. Right now, they are focusing on France, so if Bordeaux or Normandy are on your list, you might want to check them out. We already knew people booked travel around certain restaurants—look at the demand for Tracy’s King Crab Shack in Juneau, Alaska, or The Pancake Bakery in Amsterdam—but it’s now rising to a new level of commitment to the food and restaurants, not just this historic sites and museums. Hint: if you go on your own, make advance reservations!

That’s the top five, so go here for the remaining five of our Top Ten Food Trends for 2025!

Before you know it, the 2023 college football season will be here! In fact, at the time this article is being jotted down, we are just 108 days away from Sept. 2 when Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide host the Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders to open up the season.

As we muddle through the offseason, the staff here at Roll Tide Wire thought we could get together and drop each of our top 10 players heading into the 2023 season.

I am sure everyone will completely agree with each of our assessments and that our lists will not cause any arguments around the water cooler.

Let’s jump right in!

ESPN CFB analyst Aaron Murray reveals his top-ten following Week 3

Aaron Murray reveals his top-ten CFB teams following Week 3

After two incredible weeks to open the college football season, Week 3 gave fans a bit of a breather. That’s not to say there was no excitement on Saturday — it’s college football…there’s always excitement.

With another week in the books, we really have an idea of who the top-three teams in America are. But outside of the top-three, there’s plenty to debate. Are Kentucky and Arkansas legit? Can Clemson, USC, Oklahoma and Michigan do enough to give any team a tough time in the College Football Playoff?

Former Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray, now a college football analyst with ESPN, ranked his top-ten teams following Week 3.

No. 11 Notre Dame vs. North Carolina: Game Predictions

Does Notre Dame move to 7-1 or does North Carolina pull the upset?

No. 11 Notre Dame sits at 6-1 and has a favorable remaining schedule over the final five games of 2021 that could help it to a New Year’s Six bowl appearance.  The first of those five remaining contests comes Saturday night as the Irish will again play under their home lights when they welcome North Carolina to town.

The Tar Heels were a preseason top-10 team but lost their opener at Virginia Tech and have stumbled to a 4-3 start.  Will the Carolina team that shows up be the one that scored 59 points in a win against Virginia or will it be the one who lost to Georgia Tech by 23?

Will Notre Dame grow on the successes they had against USC and how will they go about slowing down a dangerous offense without Kyle Hamilton?

Here is how the Fighting Irish Wire staff sees Saturday’s contest going:

Are the Texas Longhorns a top ten team? One analyst thinks so

Are the Longhorns being overhyped again or are they legit? Paul Myerberg of USA TODAY Sports ranked them inside his top ten.

As we inch closer to the college football season set to kick off on Sept. 12, we ask are the Texas Longhorns a top 10 team? Paul Myerberg of USA TODAY Sports believes they are. He recently ranked all 76 teams that are set to play college football this year.

His top ten teams:

  1. Clemson
  2. Alabama
  3. Georgia
  4. Oklahoma
  5. Notre Dame
  6. Florida
  7. LSU
  8. Texas
  9. Central Florida
  10. North Carolina

Is it a true belief that the Texas Longhorns are a top ten team or is it that this football team is habitually overhyped? Well the team did finish in the top 15 in both the Amway Coaches poll and the AP poll. Many feel that Texas could be on their way up with essentially a whole new staff.

The Longhorns schedule using Myerberg’s rankings

Date Team Ranking
Sept. 12 UTEP 76th
Sept. 26 Texas Tech 43rd
Oct. 3 TCU 21st
Oct. 10 Oklahoma 4th
Oct. 24 Baylor 50th
Oct. 31 Oklahoma State 12th
Nov. 7 West Virginia 35th
Nov. 21 Kansas 67th
Nov. 28 Iowa Sate 23rd
Dec. 5 Kansas State 31st

According to the rankings, Texas will face four opponents in the top 25. Obviously their biggest games come in October with Oklahoma and Oklahoma State. Iowa State will be another key game that comes in late November. For Texas to return to the Big 12 Championship game they likely need to go 2-1 or 3-0 in those games. A losing record could derail their hopes of playing for the Big 12 title in 2020.

We are just two weeks away from the opening game against the bottom ranked UTEP Miners. Following the opener Texas will have a week off before traveling to Lubbock to take on the Red Raiders at Jones AT&T Stadium.

Michigan State men’s basketball ranked No. 10 in ESPN’s way-too-early 2020 rankings

The Spartans are among six ranked Big Ten teams

ESPN thinks Michigan State will have a top ten men’s basketball team for the 2020-2021 season.

The worldwide leader released its latest way-too-early rankings for the men’s college hoops season and the Spartans check in at No. 10. MSU’s blurb focuses a lot on personnel questions revolving around the program, which is fair. NBA decisions loom large for Xavier Tillman and Aaron Henry (and potential five-star recruit Karim Mane) and there is now word that Josh Langford is looking to return to MSU for another season. If those personnel matters break the right way, the Spartans could be prime for another preseason top five ranking and a boatload of expectations.

MSU is one of six Big Ten teams in the top 25 and the third-highest ranked behind Iowa (No. 5) and Wisconsin (No. 7). Ohio State (No. 22), Indiana (No. 23), and Rutgers (!!!) (No. 25) round out the conference.

Notre Dame Lacrosse: Best Game Winning Goals of Decade

Craving sports? Check out 10 classic finishes from Notre Dame lacrosse during their last decade that included four Final Four appearnaces.

Notre Dame has had an incredibly successful lacrosse program over the last decade as they advanced to the Final Four of May Madness four times in that span, twice advancing to the national championship match.

With no sports going on the men’s lacrosse program got some love from the sports media department on campus as the ten best game-winning plays by the Notre Dame men’s lacrosse team were counted down.

Some great moments to remember including knocking off some of the top teams in the country (it’s always good whenever Syracuse loses at anything) and in advancing in both the conference and NCAA Tournaments.

Watch: Top Most Clutch Touchdown Receptions in Notre Dame History

Notre Dame has won a lot over the years. Enjoy the latest in the “NDTop10” series as the most-clutch touchdown catches are counted down.

Notre Dame today released their latest #NDTop10, this time highlighting the most clutch touchdown receptions in program history.  Some are obvious, some bring back memories you probably had forgotten and since it’s a list I’m sure someone will get upset.

I have one touchdown reception that was one of my favorite ever since I’ve watched Notre Dame football and it didn’t make the cut.  Before we discuss the list though we’ve of course got to watch the thing together, right?  So here it is, the 10 Most Clutch Touchdown Catches in the History of Notre Dame Football.

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HOlG6cz4STM&w=560&h=315]

A few thoughts I had while watching:

  • I had entirely forgotten about how close the 1999 Navy game was to disaster. I always remember 2003 going down to the wire, I had blocked the 1999 game from my memory.
  • I choose to remember Pat Dillingham for that pass to Battle and the Michigan State defensive back slipping instead of remembering what happened with Dillingham against Boston College that same season.
  • One question since a Michigan State game showed up – no Golden Tate into the Michigan State band in 2009?  Just over five minutes left not qualify as clutch enough?  Season wasn’t great but that moment certainly was.
  • Will Fuller to beat Virginia in 2015 or Jeff Samardzija to beat UCLA in 2006?  Samardzija’s saved a season that wound up in the BCS while Fuller’s moved Notre Dame to 2-0 in a season they’d ultimately win 10 games.  Toss-up, personally I would have had Samardzija’s ahead but the actual catch part of the play by Fuller is clearly more impressive.
  • I’d never previously seen the Bill Shakespeare pass to Wayne Millner to beat Ohio State in 1935 before today.  Props to the video team for hunting down and posting that video.

Fun list and outside of Golden Tate not being on it I really have no problems whatsoever with it.  Some stuff I’d never actually seen in there so that’s a fun way to spend four or so minutes.

Michigan State rises to No. 12 in latest USA Today Coaches Poll

The Spartans are up five spots after winning consecutive games against ranked opponents last week.

The Michigan State men’s basketball team is rising at the right time.

A day after the Spartans clinched a share of their third straight Big Ten title, MSU has risen to No. 12 in the USA Today Coaches Poll. It’s a five-spot climb from their previous ranking of No. 17.

Michigan State is the second-highest ranked Big Ten team behind No. 11 Maryland. Wisconsin (19), Ohio State (20), Illinois (22), and Iowa (25) round out Big Ten teams in the top 25. Penn State, Michigan, and Rutgers are all in the “others receiving votes” section.

Michigan State has drawn the 2 seed in the Big Ten Tournament and opens their postseason run on Friday where they will take on the winner of the matchup between No. 7-seeded Ohio State and No. 10 Purdue.
