Former Bills turned Bears players say hello to ex-teammates

Former #Bills turned #Bears players say hello to ex-teammates:

The Buffalo Bills welcome the Chicago Bears to Highmark Stadium on Saturday for their preseason opener.

In doing so, a few familiar faces will be in the building for the 1 p.m. kickoff.

The most prominent one is linebacker Tremaine Edmunds. The former first-round pick of the Bills, he was selected in the same draft class with current Buffalo quarterback Josh Allen in 2018.

Along with Edmunds, tight end Tommy Sweeney and offensive lineman Ryan Bates make their Orchard Park returns as well.

As is usually the case, the trio of ex-Bills players used time before kickoff to catchup with former teammates.

Former Bills TE Tommy Sweeney ‘good’ after ‘medical event’ at Giants practice

Former #Bills TE Tommy Sweeney ‘good’ after ‘medical event’ at #Giants practice:

A scary scene unfolded at New York Giants training camp involving for Buffalo Bills tight end Tommy Sweeney.

On Wednesday, Sweeney fell to the ground while working out on the sideline of practice with a trainer according to Giants Wire. It’s unclear what exactly happened but after receiving treatment for an extended period on the field, Sweeney was carted off.

As of Thursday, New York head coach Brian Daboll gave a positive update. However, he did not elaborate on exactly what happened.

“He’s good,” Daboll said. ““He’s still going through some evaluations. Not going to get into anything specific. … He’s still going through some stuff.”

The 28-year-old Sweeney signed a one-year contract with the Giants this offseason, following Daboll there from Buffalo. The Bills selected the tight end in the seventh round of the 2019 NFL draft.

While in Buffalo, Sweeney was a depth option for the Bills. Perhaps what he was most well-known for with the Bills was when he missed the 2020 season after being diagnosed with myocarditis related to a COVID-19 diagnosis.

Giants’ Tommy Sweeney carted off after ‘scary scene’

New York Giants TE Tommy Sweeney was carted off the practice field on Wednesday after what several reporters described as a “scary scene.”

Editor’s note: The Giants say Sweeney had a “medical event” but “is under the care of medical professionals in the Giants athletic training room. He is stable, alert and conversant.”

New York Giants tight end Tommy Sweeney was carted off the practice field on Wednesday after receiving significant medical attention.

Sweeney was working on a side field with rehabbing players when the incident occurred. Both general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll went over to Sweeney and stayed with him until he was put on a cart, shirtless, and sent back to the locker room.

It’s unclear exactly what happened to Sweeney but Dan Duggan of The Athletic and ESPN’s Jordan Raanan described the scene as “scary.”

Charlotte Carroll, also of The Athletic, posted a video of Sweeney leaving the field on a cart but has since deleted her post.

For Sweeney, it was his first day back on the field after several were spent inside.

The 28-year-old Sweeney, a Ramsey native, signed with the Giants on a one-year, $1.1 million contract in free agency. He had spent the previous four years with the Buffalo Bills, where he was a seventh-round pick in 2019 and grew familiar with both Schoen and Daboll before they were hired by the Giants.

Sweeney is in a competition with Lawrence Cager, Ryan Jones and Chris Myarick for the team’s third tight end spot.

Here are seven players (of many) who are on the roster ‘bubble’ and need to have a good showing in this game.

Full list of 2022 Bills players who have signed with new teams

Here’s a rundown of who the #Bills have lost in free agency thus far:

As it goes each and every offseason, the Buffalo Bills can’t keep all their free agents even if they wanted to.

Here’s the full list of pending free agents the Bills had after the 2022 season that have gone on to sign contracts with new teams:

Former Bills TE Tommy Sweeney signs with Giants

Former #Bills TE Tommy Sweeney signs with #Giants:

The latest former player for Brian Daboll while he was with the Buffalo Bills to join him with the New York Giants is tight end Tommy Sweeney.

According to Giants Wire, Sweeney is heading to New York. Full terms of the deal have yet to be announced, but Sweeney was one of the Bills’ pending free agents and his inked a new contract across the state.

Sweeney was a seventh-round pick by Buffalo in the 2019 NFL draft out of Boston College. Sweeney flashed early in his career and during the preseason, however, he never put together big games for the Bills in the regular season.

Sweeney appeared in 24 games (four starts) over four years in Buffalo. He notched 18 catches for 165 yards and one touchdowns in that span.

Most notably, the 27-year-old had to sit out the 2020 NFL season after being diagnosed with myocarditis.

Like his role with the Bills, Sweeney will compete for a depth spot with the Giants. New York made waves during the start of free agency when the Giants traded for tight end Darren Waller, who will undoubtedly see the No. 1 snaps.

Without Sweeney, Quintin Morris currently looks to be Buffalo’s top backup at tight end behind Dawson Knox. The Bills could go on to address the position at the upcoming 2023 NFL draft as most analysts consider this year’s tight end position to be deep.

Along with Sweeney, other former Bills players to move onto the Giants that had Daboll connections include:

Giants sign TE Tommy Sweeney: 5 things to know

The New York Giants have signed Tommy Sweeney to a new deal, so here are five things to know about Big Blue’s newest tight end.

The New York Giants signed free agent tight end Tommy Sweeney to a contract on Thursday, boosting the team’s depth at the position.

Here are five things to know about Big Blue’s newest tight end.

Giants sign ex-Bills TE Tommy Sweeney

The New York Giants have signed former Buffalo Bills tight end Tommy Sweeney.

The New York Giants are reportedly adding to their tight ends room, with the team set to sign former Buffalo Bills tight end, Tommy Sweeney.

The news comes from ESPN’s Jordan Raanan, who did not immediately reveal the length or financials of the deal.

Sweeney appeared in 24 games (four starts) over four years in Buffalo, totaling 18 catches for 165 yards and one touchdowns in that span. He missed the entire 2020 campaign after being diagnosed with myocarditis.

As far as where Sweeney fits with the Giants, he’ll be competing for one of the depth spots at tight end behind Darren Waller and Daniel Bellinger.

Sweeney has never proven to be much of a pass-catcher, and his history as a blocker isn’t much better, at least according to Pro Football Focus.

The 27-year-old has posted run-blocking grades of 61.1, 58.5 and 65.7, respectively in the three seasons he’s played, and pass-blocking grades of 21.4, 58.5 and 54.5. Those grades come via relatively small sample sizes, though.
