Minnesota Vikings make five roster moves

The Vikings still have 22 roster moves left

On Monday afternoon, the Minnesota Vikings announced five roster moves, including placing two players on injured reserve.

Earlier in the day, it was reported that T.Y. McGill was going to be released by the team. With his ankle injury having initially been viewed as short-term, McGill might receive an injury settlement instead of staying on injured reserve. It could also o

Myron Mitchell and Tye Smith were reported earlier in the day and Timon Parris was expected after a really rough outing

After five roster moves today, the Vikings still have 22 more roster moves left. You can keep track of all of them with our final roster tracker here.

Vikings place two more players on COVID-19/Reserve list

The Vikings placed LB Ryan Connelly on Reserve/COVID-19 and T Timon Parris on Reserve Practice Squad/COVID-19.

As Minnesota tries to adjust amid injuries and close defeats in 2021, the Vikings also have to deal with missing players due to COVID-19 protocol.

The Vikings announced on Monday that they placed LB Ryan Connelly on Reserve/COVID-19 and T Timon Parris on Reserve Practice Squad/COVID-19.

In total, the Vikings have five players on the COVID-19/Reserve list. In addition to Connelly and Parris, Minnesota also has C Garrett Bradbury, S Harrison Smith and G Dakota Dozier on the list.

Bradbury missed a game for the first time in his NFL career on Sunday. Smith also missed the Ravens game in Week 10. Mike Zimmer said after the loss to Baltimore that Smith will also miss the Week 10 matchup with the Chargers.

With Bradbury out, the Vikings started Mason Cole at center against the Ravens. Camryn Bynum started in place of Smith.

Connelly, a Minnesota native, serves as linebacker depth for the team. The Vikings signed Parris to their practice squad in October.

Vikings sign T Timon Parris to the practice squad

The Vikings added tackle depth ahead of their matchup with the Cowboys.

The Vikings drafted Oli Udoh in 2019, and the Stony Brook product eventually turned into a starting-caliber player.

This week, Minnesota elected to add another former Stony Brook player: Timon Parris, a tackle the team signed to the practice squad.

Parris has played in four NFL total games, all of which came with Washington. He played one game in 2018 and three in 2019.

Since then, he has had stints with the Falcons, Browns, Dolphins and another stop with Washington. He last played for the Dolphins. Miami waived him before the 2021 season.

This move may suggest a lack of depth at the exterior tackle spots this week. The Vikings’ Week 7 injury situation remains relatively unknown leading up to their matchup with the Cowboys. They were in a bye last week. And the Week 7 injury report has yet to be released, but should come out Wednesday.

The Vikings also may just want to fill an available practice squad spot. At tackle, the Vikings currently have Brian O’Neill on the right side. Then, the team opted to replace LT Rashod Hill with 2021 first-round pick Christian Darrisaw in Week 6. Darrisaw played pretty well. Vikings fans may see more of the rookie during the rest of 2021.

Dolphins sign offensive tackle Timon Parris

Dolphins sign offensive tackle Timon Parris

The Miami Dolphins’ last-minute tweaks to their offseason roster appear to be upon us — last week brought the return of wide receiver Isaiah Ford to the team after a departure in free agency this spring and now the Dolphins are returning another player who has spent time with the Dolphins — but never taken a snap with the team.

The Dolphins announced yesterday that they have signed offensive tackle Timon Parris.

Parris has spent time in the NFL with the Washington Football Team, the Cleveland Browns, Atlanta Falcons and now the Dolphins. Miami originally added him to their offseason roster back in May before waiving him amid a churn of players throughout the summer less than a month after he was originally signed.

And now, with the start of training camp nearly upon us, the Dolphins are bringing Parris back for their third transaction since May — this time to put him onto the roster and take part of what should be a highly competitive battle for slots on the team’s active roster for the fall. Parris has played in four career NFL games, making him something of a long shot with the plethora of contenders the Dolphins have brought in to account for spots on the 8- or 9-man line for the active roster.

Dolphins sign offensive lineman Jermaine Eluemunor

The Miami Dolphins, on the cusp of this week’s mandatory mini-camp, have made yet another roster move in an effort to churn the bottom of the offensive line room. Miami’s front has been a continued work in progress from the moment head coach Brian Flores stepped into the building — and his unit appears to be as talented and deep as it has ever been under Flores’ watch.

But good ain’t good enough. So the Dolphins’ line welcomes a new addition as of yesterday: the team announced that they were waiving offensive tackle Timon Parris and signing free agent lineman Jermaine Eluemunor.

Eluemunor, an alumni of Texas A&M and a member of the 2017 NFL draft class, has spent time thus far in his career with the Baltimore Ravens and the New England Patriots. Last season was a career high in playing time for Eluemunor, he started 8 games for New England.

Eluemunor is the kind of offensive lineman the Dolphins have trended towards in the past:

  • Big (332 pounds)
  • Side of line versatility (starts at both left & right tackle for New England)
  • Inside/outside versatility (snaps at tackle for New England and guard for Baltimore)
  • Explosive (the overwhelming majority of Dolphins OL investments under this regime have had a standing broad jump > 60th percentile versus NFL Combine data. Eluemunor’s 103″ jump at his Texas A&M pro day qualifies as the 63rd percentile among offensive guards)

One would have to assume that Guard is where Eluemunor will get his best look as a member of the Dolphins. Miami appears to have Robert Hunt penciled in at right guard but head coach Brian Flores stated that Hunt’s final position will ultimately be “up to him”. If Hunt claims the right tackle job once again, then veterans DJ Fluker and Jesse Davis would battle it out with Eluemunor for a spot on the line.

The Miami Dolphins have added yet another contender to their looming offensive line battle in training camp. The Dolphins, who have tinkered significantly to their offensive line one year after making heavy investments into the group, are expecting a competitive training camp between several contenders for starting roles and, alternatively, several contenders for depth spots on the roster.

The latest addition? Veteran tackle Timon Parris, who logged his playing time in the NFL with the Washington Football Team but has also been a member of the Cleveland Browns and Atlanta Falcons organizations.

Parris will face an uphill battle to make the team — as the Dolphins have tackles Austin Jackson, DJ Fluker, rookies Liam Eichenberg and Larnel Coleman and veteran Jesse Davis on the roster already. Add in the team’s experience with 2020 2nd-round pick Robert Hunt manning the right tackle role last season and the Dolphins will have a slew of options to stick at tackle and the team will also be able to boast positional versatility up front, which may make finding a home for Parris on the final roster even more challenging.

But as the saying goes, a rising tide raises all ships. And the Dolphins are looking to host the most competitive training camp they can at all positions across the team. So while Parris is facing a challenge to make the roster, he’ll push the team’s 7th-round draft choice in Coleman and an expensive veteran in Jesse Davis and make their paths to the final roster more challenging, too.

Browns add TE Jordan Franks, OT Timon Parris to practice squad

Both new players have ties to Browns coaches

The Browns filled a couple of vacant positions on the team’s practice squad on Tuesday. Cleveland announced it has signed tight end Jordan Franks and offensive tackle Timon Parris to the 16-man practice squad.

They had an unexpected opening when the Cowboys signed QB Garrett Gilbert away before the team could slap the protected label on the veteran once again.

Franks and Parris are both familiar players for a Browns coach.

Franks played in Cincinnati under Browns offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt in 2018-2019. Most of that time was spent on the Bengals’ practice squad, but the Central Florida product did haul in two receptions for 37 yards in six total games in his rookie campaign.

Parris was on the Washington Football Team in 2018-2019, where he was coached by now-Browns offensive line coach Bill Callahan. The 6-foot-6, 315-pounder also spent time with the Atlanta Falcons. He entered the NFL as an undrafted rookie from Stony Brook in 2018.

Falcons waive Timon Parris, release Josh Hawkins from practice squad

The Atlanta Falcons claimed offensive tackle Timon Parris off of waivers a week ago, and on Tuesday, the team waived him from the 53-man roster.

The Falcons also released cornerback Josh Hawkins from the 16-man practice squad, which leaves one spot available on both the active roster and practice squad left to fill.

On Monday, it was reported that Atlanta was planning to add WR Laquon Treadwell, one of the surprise cuts from training camp, to the practice squad. Releasing Hawkins frees the team up to add Treadwell.

Falcons claim OT Timon Parris off waivers

Parris, 24, is a 6-foot-6, 320-pound former undrafted free agent out of Stony Brook

According to ESPN’s Vaughn McClure, the Falcons have claimed offensive tackle Timon Parris off of waivers from the Washington Football team. Parris, 24, is a 6-foot-6, 320-pound former undrafted free agent out of Stony Brook.

It’s unclear whose spot Parris will be taking on the Falcons’ 53-man roster. McClure suggest it could be backup offensive lineman John Wetzel who gets released.

Stay tuned for more information as the day unfolds.

Colts attempting to poach Timon Parris is why Paul Richardson went to IR

Other teams had an eye on Timon Parris.

The Washington Redskins sent veteran wideout Paul Richardson to injured reserve recently, ending a disappointing season.

There wasn’t much to think about from an outsider’s standpoint — Year 2 for Richardson in Washington felt much like the first and this was a typical move to help add depth at a position.

But there’s more to the story, as Redskins interim coach Bill Callahan revealed recently.

Les Carpenter of the Washington Post summed it up: “Callahan said the Colts wanted to poach Timon Parris from the practice squad which led to the Redskins placing Paul Richardson on IR. He said the Redskins believe in Parris’s potential and did not want to lose him.”

It’s a bit of a stunning admission from the Redskins, who tossed Timon Parris onto the 53 in order to prevent a team like the Colts from poaching him.

Parris, a 2018 rookie, had big upside from a small school (Stony Brook), so it’s clear the Redskins like what they’ve seen so far and will do what it takes to make sure they see the returns on his development.
