Top Notre Dame quarterback target to make big-time SEC visits

What are Notre Dame’s odds in the Dante Moore derby?

Notre Dame is certainly in hot pursuit of five-star high school quarterback Dante Moore, but as you’d probably expect the Irish are anything but alone.  As Moore remains a priority and will shape offensive recruiting in 2023 for Notre Dame regardless of his ultimate decision, he’s taking visits to other big-time programs as well.

According to On3, Moore is set to visit Florida next month along with Alabama, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, and UCF.

Moore is nearing 40 offers nationally as he’s one of the top prospects in the entire 2023 recruiting class, not just top quarterbacks.    If he eventually does choose Notre Dame, Moore would be the biggest quarterback recruit Notre Dame will have successfully recruited since Gunner Kiel a decade ago.

Alabama-Georgia: FIW staff predictions

Who you got tonight in Indy?

The 2021 college football season comes to a close tonight in Indianapolis as it’s a rematch of the SEC championship game between Alabama and Georgia.

Will the Tide roll again or will the Dawgs finally get over the hump?

Will it be another classic like when the two met to conclude the 2017 season?

Here is what the Fighting Irish Wire staff sees happening tonight in Indy:

Joel Klatt’s College Football Playoff Proposal

What is the perfect number of teams for the College Football Playoff?

We may still be years away from the College Football Playoff adding teams but that didn’t stop analyst Joel Klatt from reworking what this year’s CFP could have looked like.

Klatt took to Twitter to offer his idea of how to come up with a 12-team playoff that makes the most sense.  Below are the details to his plan that we’ll comment on along the way as well as his top 12 rankings.

College Football Playoff matchups made official

Notre Dame finishes as the maid of honor at No. 5

There wasn’t a lot of drama heading into Sunday as anyone who has followed college football to any extent whatsoever this year knew the four teams that we’re going to the College Football Playoff.  It was the order of those four teams that was leaving us to wonder.

Notre Dame knew they’d be a hair short of an appearance after they didn’t get enough help on Saturday to get in.  We’ll know in short order if it ends up being the Fiesta Bowl or the Peach Bowl for the Irish.

Here are the official College Football Playoff qualifiers for the 2021 season:

1. Alabama (12-1)

2. Michigan (12-1)

3. Georgia (12-1)

4. Cincinnati (13-0)

Matchups – December 31, 2021:
Cotton Bowl: No. 1 Alabama vs. No. 4 Cincinnati

Orange Bowl: No. 2 Michigan vs. No. 3 Georgia

Notre Dame finished ranked fifth while Ohio State was sixth.

Bama Survives at Auburn…Partially

Bama survives but not without a cost…

Alabama rallied in the fourth quarter to force overtime at Auburn, eventually winning the rivalry game and improving to 11-1 on the year.  They survived the scare and now advance to the SEC Championship where a win over No. 1 Georgia would send them to the College Football Playoff.

Here’s the thing, though.

Saturday’s SEC Championship will officially be an elimination game for Alabama if the CFP committee has self-respect.  Any previous talk of a two-loss Alabama team being worthy of a CFP appearance can be over now.  If you’re going to be the first two-loss team to get in you’ve got to be a lot more dominating in all of your wins than Alabama was too often this season.

I don’t disagree with Nick Saban that winning is hard.  It’s really hard.  I don’t question that and deny it whatsoever.

But when average teams regularly push you to the brink any talk of being a “different” kind of two-loss team needs to be fired into the sun.

Alabama beat a 6-6 Florida team by two.

Alabama beat a five-loss LSU team by just one score.

Alabama needed triple overtime and an epic collapse by Auburn to get by the 6-6 Tigers.

If Alabama wins next Saturday against Georgia they deserve a CFP appearance.

But after this showing and stacking it on top of the other showings stated above and you can end any talk of a two-loss Alabama team being playoff worthy.

And that is really good news if you’re a Notre Dame or fan of a Big 12 team.

College Football Playoff Rankings Projection

After Oregon was blasted at Utah, how will the latest CFP rankings look this week?

The 12th week of college football was a week of extremes.  Two top 10 teams fell but neither were favored and one lost to a higher ranked team, so upsets isn’t the right word but a shakeup is certainly coming to the College Football Playoff rankings when they’re released Tuesday night.

After Ohio State blew out Michigan State, Utah routed Oregon, and a surprisingly exciting game between No. 2 Alabama and No. 24 Arkansas, how will the new CFP rankings look?

Here is our best guess as to what the fourth set of rankings will look like:

College Football Playoff Rankings Projection: Week 12

What will be the biggest changes in the College Football Playoff rankings this week?

Week 11 of college football has come and gone and in its tide it took away an unbeaten Oklahoma team as they fell hard at Baylor.  Also with it went No. 11 Texas A&M who fell in their first true road game of the year at Ole Miss while top-20s NC State, Auburn, and Purdue all fell as well.  (See it – how the CFP Top 25 fared this weekend)

So what will the third round of the College Football Playoff rankings look like when they’re revealed on Tuesday night?

Here is my best guess as we count down from 25-1:

Nation’s top offensive tackle commits to ACC program

Not the most surprising thing but still a bummer…

Five-star offensive tackle Zach Rice, who ranks seventh overall in the 2022 247Sports Composite rankings listed Notre Dame among his five finalists, but the Irish didn’t win his services Thursday night as he announced his plans to attend North Carolina.

Joining Notre Dame and North Carolina as finalists were Alabama, Ohio State, and Rice’s home-state Virginia.

Rice becomes North Carolina’s 15th overall commitment in the 2022 class that is currently ranked ninth nationally by 247Sports.  He’s also their second five-star recruit in the class based off those same Composite rankings.

Notre Dame currently checks in fifth in the 247Sports team rankings that include five-star linebacker Jaylen Sneed of Hilton Head Island.

Travis Kelce talks Chiefs’ comeback win vs. Browns, new Tide partnership

Travis Kelce spoke to @EdEastonJr about his new partnership with Tide, the #Chiefs’ comeback win vs. the #Browns, his chemistry with Patrick Mahomes and more.

Kansas City Chiefs All-Pro tight end Travis Kelce continues to be one of the most exciting players in the NFL, helping to lead his team to back-to-back Super Bowl appearances. On Sunday, the six-time Pro Bowler was a vital part of the Chiefs season-opening victory over the Cleveland Browns.

Kelce and the NFL are encouraging cold washing as part of Tide’s #TurnToCold campaign to tackle stains and handle whatever is in your laundry basket. By joining the campaign switching to cold washing, you could save up to 90% energy per load. Cold washing can save up to $150.00 a year on your energy bill. That’s a new player jersey every season!
