Texas Longhorns 2021 commit has big game in season opener

Texas Longhorns 2021 commit Jonathan Brooks had a big night in the season debut. He made an impact on both offense and defense.

Texas high school football returned on Friday night for some schools in the state. One of the schools that returned to the field was Halletsville High School. 2021 three-star running back and Texas commit Jonathan Brooks had himself quite a season debut against Shiner.

Brooks scored a total of three times in the game on offense and on defense returning a fumble for another. He carried the ball 16 times for 142 yards and three touchdowns. His touchdown runs came from 1, 18 and 26 yards out. Brooks scoop and score on the fumble was 51 yards according to the Victoria Advocate.

Unfortunately for Brooks and Halletsville, they came out on the losing side after a late interception sealed the deal for Shiner. Last year Brooks finished as the district MVP and helped lead the team to a 11-3 record and a trip to the state quarterfinals.

Texas lands commitment from three-star center Michael Myslinski

Texas has once again landed an offensive line prospect, this time at center. Three-star OC Mike Myslinski announced his commitment to UT.

Texas has once again landed an offensive line prospect, this time at center. Mike Myslinski of Jacksonville, Florida announced his commitment to the Longhorns Thursday morning.

Myslinski is the No. 12 center in the country and rated a three-star on the 247Sports composite. Texas beat out big-time schools, with Myslinski committing to the Longhorns over Duke, Florida State, Iowa, Louisville, Maryland, Michigan State, and Missouri.

Offensive line head coach Herb Hand only offered Myslinski on April 3, 2020. The center unofficially visited Austin on June 20 and was apart of Texas’ 2021 recruiting class just over a month later.

After losing out on the top center in the country, James Brockermeyer, the Longhorns’ offensive line seems set in the 2021 class. Myslinski joins tackle Hayden Connor as recruiting wins for Hand.

As it has been the past four years, the Longhorns have the top recruiting class in the Big 12. However, being ranked outside the top 10 nationally is new for Tom Herman. Texas sits at No. 12.

Texas picks up crystal ball predictions for three-star tight end

Texas is trying to lock a tight end for the 2021 class. 247Sports’ crystal ball has given the Longhorns two predictions for Gunnar Helm.

The Longhorns are back on the recruiting trail, this time, trying to lock down a tight end for the 2021 class. 247Sports’ crystal ball has given the Texas two predictions with a confidence level of seven for Gunnar Helm.

Helm is a three-star prospect on the 247Sports’ composite and is the sixth-ranked player in the state of Colorado. He is on the fringe of becoming a top 25 player at his position, sitting at No. 26.

Tight end became a position of need when another three-star prospect Landen King decommited from the Longhorns and landed with Auburn. Even Austin native Lake McRee chose an out-of-state school in USC.

Helm was in Austin recently, tweeting out he would arrive on July 20. It seems as if the trip was a successful one Tom Herman and Jay Boulware, with the crystal ball predictions flooding in two days later.

Two Big 10 schools, Iowa and Wisconsin, remain Texas’ biggest competition for the tight end.

Texas basketball offers 2022 three-star wide receiver

Shaka Smart and the Longhorns have offered 2021 SG Anthony Black. A two-sport athlete, Black is also a highly recruited football player.

Shaka Smart and the Longhorns have offered 2021 shooting guard Anthony Black out of Coppell, Texas. A two-sport athlete, Black is also a highly recruited football player, currently a three-star prospect.

247Sports has yet to rate Black as a basketball player but he should be highly recruited there as well. Over the past week, he has picked up offers from Saint Louis, TCU, and Texas Tech.

On the football side, Tom Herman has yet to offer the three-star wide receiver. Baylor, Kansas, and Iowa State have offered Black on the gridiron, with Arkansas and Georgia Tech being the only other Power Five schools to extend an offer.

A Texas legacy, Black’s mother played soccer for the Longhorns for two seasons.

“Texas is definitely up there considering my mom went there for two years,” Black said.

Nobody is quite sure which sport he will choose, but Black possesses enough talent to be an elite prospect in both. Only entering his junior season, he will have the opportunity to increase his rating in both football and basketball.

Landen King decommits from Texas

Landen King announced he was decommitting from Texas on Friday. The three-star prospect had been committed to UT since April 26, 2020.

2021 tight end Landen King announced he was decommitting from Texas on Friday. The three-star prospect from Atascocita, Texas had been committed to the Longhorns since April 26, 2020. In his tweet, King thanked head coach Tom Herman and the staff for the “amazing opportunity.”

King has never released a list naming his top schools, committing to Texas before having the opportunity to. While there are a few schools in contention for him, one has already been predicted to land King.

Just shortly after his announcement, 247Sports are predicting he will commit to Auburn. The Tigers offered King on April 3 and are now the favorite to land him. New offensive coordinator Chad Morris has been hot on the recruiting trail, trying to land weapons for quarterback Bo Nix.

Going forward for the Longhorns, they have offered six other tight ends in the 2021 class. Three of the six remain uncommitted, with four-star Moliki Matavao, four-star Dametrious Crownover, and three-star Lake McRee being options as replacements.

Despite the decommitment, Texas remains the top-ranked recruiting class in the Big 12. The 2021 class now consists of one five-star, six four-stars, and three three-star prospects.
