It’s settled, the NFL is better than the NBA on the golf course.

Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes and TE Travis Kelce emerged victorious over Golden State Warriors stars Steph Curry and Klay Thompson in the latest iteration of “The Match.”

Most importantly, they helped raise a ton of money for charity, with the 12-hole scramble at Wynn Golf Club in Las Vegas benefiting No Kid Hungry. Kelce won a special closest to the hole challenge on hole No. 6, earning a $100K donation from Capitol One for the No Kid Hungry charity.

This marked Mahomes’ second time appearing in the one-off golf challenge, but his first time winning. He lost the event last offseason with Bills QB Josh Allen as his partner, facing off against then-Packers QB Aaron Rodgers and then-Bucs QB Tom Brady.

Curry and Thompson were big favorites coming into the exhibition, but Mahomes and Kelce took the game over quickly. After a tie on hole No. 1, Mahomes and Kelce won three consecutive holes. Kelce had the better long shot on the day, but Mahomes made some really great putts throughout.

After six holes, the Chiefs were up five on the Warriors. They ended things on the tenth hole, with Kelce sinking an easy putt to ensure that Curry and Thompson couldn’t mount a comeback.

Charles Barkley surprised an emotional Ernie Johnson with news he was a Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame inductee

Charles Barkley delivered some incredible news to Ernie Johnson during Thursday’s coverage of The Match.

In one of the coolest sports moments you’re likely to see this week, TNT broadcaster Ernie Johnson got surprised with some major news by a close pal.

While Johnson broadcasted 2023’s iteration of The Match, his longtime co-worker and good friend Charles Barkley informed him out of nowhere that he was being inducted into the 2023 Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame.

Johnson looked a bit awestruck and was deeply moved by the news, as Barkley said he was honored to tell his good friend about this career achievement.

The new inductee took a second to process the news before sharing his gratitude at the achievement in what made for an incredibly wholesome moment of sports television.

Johnson has always seemed like one of the sports broadcasting world’s true class acts, and it’s great to see him honored in such a way.

While he probably just thought he was showing up to set to talk about golf, Johnson instead got quite a wonderful surprise about his three-plus decades in the field. It’s one of those really sweet moments you can’t plan.

The anticipation for this year’s edition of “The Match” has peaked with the participants making their way to The Wynn in Las Vegas.

Kansas City Chiefs All-Pro Travis Kelce and his MVP teammate Patrick Mahomes are set to do battle against the NBA’s Golden State Warriors all-star duo of Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson tonight at 6:30 p.m. ET on TNT.

The duel on the green is expected to be exciting, with four great athletes taking swings on the golf course for charity. The trash talk hasn’t quite made headlines like last year’s matchup, as both teams show a healthy respect for their opponents.

While speaking with reporters in a conference call earlier in the week, Curry and Thompson admired the Chiefs’ duo, highlighting their championship pedigree.

“I mean, that competitive spirit, they obviously know who they are,” said Curry. “They have great chemistry. They’re great leaders in the sense of how they talk about themselves, their team, and their vision for winning at the highest level, and there’s an entertainment value in watching them on the field as well, just because of the creativity, what they do is just following the journey from when they first started together with each of their respective careers, to now knowing that journey is not always easy. And there’s disappointments and failures along the way, but then you figure out success and then having to try to get back to that level, you know, after your first one. So just appreciation for greatness in the sense of knowing what it takes to do that. I don’t know anything when it takes about in football, but just in terms of that competitive spirit that you can see. It’s clear, and it’s authentic.”

The Warriors, led by Curry and Thompson, have captured four NBA championships during their time together, while Mahomes and Kelce have secured two Super Bowl titles. Thompson explained the similarities between the two teams and respected the challenge ahead.

“Yeah, like Steph said, I respect Pat and Travis’s synergy together,” said Thompson. “I mean, when you think of the Kansas City Chiefs, you think those two you think one of the best duos in sports, and above all, they’re just fun to watch. I mean, both players pretty much revolutionize their positions. You know, Pat being able to throw on the move and Travis being able to beat corners, safeties, (and) linebackers. He’s is pretty much unguardable. So, it’s kind of like I relate it to Steph and I. You know, being able to win at the highest level with a three-point shot being the biggest weapon in our arsenal, and it’s kind of like what their offense kind of resembles too is just something we’ve never seen before. So huge respect on our part for what they do.”

Mahomes and Kelce will be looking to keep their undefeated streak as a team in Las Vegas alive with a satisfying victory over the “Splash Brothers.”

Kansas City Chiefs stars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce are set to hit the links to take on Golden State Warriors stars Steph Curry and Klay Thompson in this year’s iteration of the one-off golf competition, “The Match.”

Mahomes participated in last year’s event, teaming up with Buffalo Bills star Josh Allen to face Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady. Mahomes lost that matchup, so he’s hoping for redemption this time around. There is also an element of bragging rights, with a matchup between NFL and NBA players.

This year’s event will follow a 12-hole scramble format as it did in previous years. Each player will tee off and the team will then select the best ball to play, they’ll then alternate shots until the hole is finished. If there is a hole-in-one at any point in the event, the team that scores it will be awarded $2 million to a charity of their choosing. The final hole carries a $5 million charity donation, should a team score an ace. There are also other special “challenge” holes, which will each award charity donations, should they be completed.

Steph Curry works with Butch Harmon, Klay Thompson watches Tiger Woods videos ahead of The Match in Las Vegas

Curry and Thompson will take on Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce this Thursday at the Wynn in Las Vegas.

NBA greats Steph Curry and Klay Thompson of the Golden State Warriors are taking on NFL legends Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs in the latest edition of The Match this Thursday at the Wynn in Las Vegas.

Mahomes teamed up with Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen last time around, losing to Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers. Curry has also played in The Match series, losing alongside Peyton Manning to Phil Mickelson and Charles Barkley.

Although those two may have some scar tissue, their teammates are making their Match debut.

Kelce claimed he’s around a 10 handicap when talking with the media Tuesday. As for Thompson, he’s somewhere in the double digits.

Curry, on the other hand, has serious game.

He’s played on the Korn Ferry Tour, has finished inside the top 10 in two of the last three American Century Championships at Lake Tahoe and has now sought advice from one of the best golf instructors in the world.

Lynch: The Match proves golf can be a fun product, without trading virtues for vulgarity

Butch Harmon has helped the likes of Tiger Woods, Dustin Johnson and Rickie Fowler, and has been dubbed more of a life coach than golf coach.

Curry is hoping to implement some of Harmon’s practices when he tees it up later this week.

“For me, it’s that fine balance of not getting information overload and having 800 swing thoughts in your head,” Curry said. “Up until last summer, I never got any teaching or coaching. You have to understand how to apply whatever information you’re learning on the course, which is a totally different experience. Just trying to keep things as simple as possible.

“Butch gave me one little swing thought that I’ll probably talk about on the telecast if I hit a good shot, give him a shout-out. Just trying to build a little of confidence but not overcomplicate just being an athlete out there.”

Thompson reiterated Curry’s point of not overcomplicating things, but he did admit he’s been doing some research on YouTube.

“I’ve been watching a lot of YouTube. Last night I watched Dustin Johnson and Rory McIlroy’s tutorial on scoring shots. I learned some things. I’ve just been trying to pick up tips from the pros.

“Haven’t watched any basketball the last few weeks, just all golf stuff. Lots of Tiger highlights, too.”

The Curry/Thompson vs. Mahomes/Kelce battle will begin at 6:30 p.m. ET on Thursday. It will be televised on TNT, truTV and HLN and streamed on Sling TV.

WATCH: Teaser for Chiefs vs. Warriors clash in ‘The Match’

NFL > NBA? #Chiefs and #Warriors stars are set to clash on the golf course in “The Match” on Thursday, June 29. Watch the teaser here:

Kansas City Chiefs champs Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes are set to face off with Golden State Warriors stars Steph Curry and Klay Thompson for the ultimate NFL vs. NBA bragging rights. They’ll settle the debate on the golf course for Capitol One’s “The Match” at Wynn Las Vegas on Thursday, June 29.

Kelce recently shared a teaser video on Twitter to get everyone hyped up for the upcoming event.

“This is the best duo in football vs. the best duo in basketball,” Kelce said.

“Everything that we’ve done, we’ve always tried to be the best,” Mahomes said.

“We’ve all won a championship in our respective sports,” Curry said.

“We just got a ring, we’re on top of the world, baby,” Kelce exclaims.

“We’ll both try to transfer that chemistry onto the golf links,” Thompson said.

There will be trash talk, some decent golf and a whole lot of fun during the course of the event. Mahomes and Kelce just played this past weekend at the 15 and the Mahomies charity golf event in Hawaii, so they’ll be all warmed up and ready for the competition from Curry and Thompson.

Shaquille O’Neal challenges Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes, TE Travis Kelce to a basketball game

#Chiefs GM Brett Veach might have to make an executive decision on this one. | from @EdEastonJr

Kansas City Chiefs all-pros Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce will be hitting the golf course together when they participate in “The Match” charity golf challenge, against NBA’s Golden State Warriors all-star pair of Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson, for a 6:30 p.m. start on June 29 on TNT.

Mahomes was a guest on TNT on Thursday night before the network’s NBA playoff coverage. Speaking with Charles Barkley, Shaquille O’Neal, Kenny Smith, and Ernie Johnson, the two-time Super Bowl champion had fun with the crew assessing his golf skills, ankle recovery, and boasting about his abilities on the basketball court leading to a challenge from a Hall of Famer.

“It’s good. It definitely took a lot longer than I expected to heal.” Said Mahomes regarding his ankle recovery, “But at this point, now, I’ve been able to run around, get some golf balls, throw the football around you whatever. And I’ve been in a good spot. And that’s been working on my jump shot too. So I’m happy to show you all that at some point.”

Mahomes’ comment sparked a challenge from O’Neal, trying to get the reigning league MVP and Kelce in a two on two basketball game. “I don’t know, you’re not moving really well, so I might have a chance,” said Mahomes jokingly as O’Neal reminded everyone he has a new hip after surgery recently.

The former Texas Tech multi-sport athlete addressed his and Kelce’s golf game and chances heading into next month’s showdown.

“Yeah, so my game, I’m actually pretty consistent with how ugly my golf swing technically is. I’m kind of figuring it out. A baseball player that plays golf. Trav (Travis) has a long swing, but when he hits it right, he hits it really far. So I’m hoping in the scramble shamble or whatever format it is to help us,” said Mahomes. “Obviously, we know Steph is a scratch golfer, so that’s kind of the guy that we were gonna be shooting, trying to go against. And then Klay. I’ve heard a little bit, but I’m sure he can golf a little bit. Being up there and being buddies with Steph. I’m sure they get out on the course. But like I said, I think the competitor in me and Trav that we’re going to come out we’ve actually won a celebrity tournament at the Wynn before, so we’re trying to make sure the trophy stays in our hand.”

The duo was victorious last year in the inaugural “8AM Golf Invitational” hosted by Justin Timberlake and Wynn Las Vegas. Let’s see if lightning will strike twice at the same course for next month’s event.
