Charles Barkley and Shaq roasted Kendrick Perkins for questioning how much basketball they actually watch

Charles Barkley and Shaq quickly put Kendrick Perkins in his place.

Note to self: Never question the professionalism or acumen of two Hall of Famers on any sort of nationally syndicated program. (Especially if it just seems like you’re pandering to a major media market.)

This is an important lesson ESPN’s Kendrick Perkins apparently needs to learn.

On Monday, the former NBA big man hopped on the Michael Kay Show to discuss the New York Knicks’ upcoming playoff prospects. During his conversation, Perkins called out TNT’s Charles Barkley and Shaquille O’Neal for only watching NBA basketball when their network is broadcasting games. As it pertains to the Knicks specifically, who, again, play in New York, Perkins isn’t convinced the TNT duo has seen much of them:

“It’s obvious (that) they don’t watch basketball,” Perkins said on the Michael Kay Show. “I’m serious. They can’t watch basketball on a consistent basis. The only time they actually probably watch the Knicks is when they’re covering the Knicks on their game nights.”

Hoo boy. That is probably not something Perkins should’ve said about his peers on a public platform. Needless to say, Barkley and O’Neal caught wind of his critique and blasted the former role-player center during TNT’s first broadcast of the 2024 NBA Play-In Tournament.

How? They used the news of Blake Griffin retiring from the league to showcase one of his more famous dunks… on Perkins. Then they quickly made reference to Perkins punching up to two all-time greats out of the blue:

If Perkins’ intent was to ruffle some feathers of fellow national NBA broadcasters, he clearly succeeded. He probably should’ve kept his thoughts to the Knicks, though.

Auburn legend Charles Barkley begrudgingly cheered ‘Roll Tide!’ after Alabama made its first men’s Final Four

Look away, Auburn fans.

If there’s anything an Auburn fan never wants to say, it’s the main slogan for Alabama.

Well, Auburn men’s basketball legend and sports broadcaster Charles Barkley had to metaphorically hold his nose as he gave credit to the Crimson Tide after the team punched its first-ever ticket to men’s Final Four.

Alabama’s 89-82 Elite Eight victory over Clemson on Saturday night was a historic one for the program, especially sweet for the rivalry after Auburn won the 2024 SEC title and got bounced earlier in the NCAA tournament.

Well, Barkley begrudgingly let out a “Roll Tide!” cheer to commend Alabama for its incredible accomplishment, surely to the delight of Crimson Tide fans everywhere.

While Auburn fans might want to zap this video from their memories as fast as possible, Barkley was a good sport for ever so briefly letting Bama have its flowers.

We’ll see how Alabama stacks up against UConn during that Final Four battle next weekend, and if Barkley has to keep praising Alabama’s excellence on the court… or can finally rejoice with all Auburn fans in it being eliminated from the tournament.

Nate Oats takes shot at Charles Barkley following Alabama’s Sweet 16 win over North Carolina

The second biggest rivalry in the state of Alabama is the one between Nate Oats and Auburn alum Charles Barkley.

When it comes to hoops rivalries within the state of Alabama, The Iron Bowl of Basketball has produced several fierce games in recent memory. Some could argue that the second-biggest rivalry is between Alabama head coach Nate Oats and former Auburn player [autotag]Charles Barkley[/autotag].

As usual, Barkley has talked his share of trash in regards to the Alabama Crimson Tide this March, and Oats usually shares a response. The latest installment of the rivalry took place Thursday evening in Los Angeles following Alabama’s Sweet 16 win over North Carolina.

Prior to Thursday’s game, Barkley said that Alabama needed to shoot well from three-point territory before predicting the Tar Heels to beat Alabama.

“(Alabama is) a very frail team. They can’t handle North Carolina in the post,” Barkley said. “That’s a huge advantage for North Carolina, but Alabama is one of the best 3-point shooting teams in the country.”

Apparently, Oats caught wind of Barkley’s comments and was sure to mention them during his postgame interview with CBS when discussing the performance of Grant Nelson, who scored 24 points in the win.

“Charles Barkley called us frail. I don’t thing (Nelson) was frail tonight,” Oats said postgame.

This is not the first time that Barkley and Oats have delivered jabs to each other since the NCAA Tournament began. Oats poked fun at Barkley’s busted bracket by saying “It’s March Madness, of course Barkley’s bracket is busted, he’s from Auburn.” To which Barkley responded “”Coach Oats, he does a great job,” Barkley said. “I’m going to be rooting for them to lose, I’m not gonna lie.”

Alabama faces Clemson in the Elite Eight on Saturday. Will Barkley get the last laugh by watching Alabama lose?

Gleeful Alabama coach Nate Oats ripped Charles Barkley’s take on his team being ‘frail’ after North Carolina upset

No, Alabama was not “frail” and Nate Oats let Charles Barkley know it.

Charles Barkley, as we know, is an Auburn alum, but he’s not shown any bias when it comes to talking about Alabama in 2024 March Madness.

He may want his recent comments about the Crimson Tide back after Alabama upset No. 1 seed North Carolina in the Sweet 16.

Earlier in the week, he said this, per AL.com: “They are a very frail team. They can’t handle North Carolina in the post. That’s a huge advantage for North Carolina, but Alabama is one of the best 3-point shooting teams in the country.”

After Alabama won thanks to a huge game from Grant Nelson, head coach Nate Oats had this to say about Nelson right after the game: “Charles Barkley called us frail. I don’t think he was frail tonight.”

He then cited that in the locker room. WHEW:

Charles Barkley calls Grand Canyon’s game against Alabama ‘One of the dumbest I’ve ever seen’

Charles Barkley’s hilarious reaction to Grand Canyon’s “Dumbest basketball game he’s ever seen” vs. Alabama

There was a huge sigh of relief from the Alabama faithful Sunday evening as they secured an 11-point victory over Grand Canyon University to advance to the Sweet 16. The other feeling was one of ‘what in the world did I just watch?’

Granted it was not the prettiest game Alabama has ever played, Grand Canyon just played a game of pure chaos for two hours. With only five assists in the entire 40-minute game, it was like the Antelopes came down the court and just wanted to go one-on-one every possession with no control or composure. Grand Canyon also shot just 2/20 from three, turned the ball over 14 times and missed 14 free throws. There was just no rhythm about their offense and it was truly the most bizarre thing I have seen on the basketball court.

Auburn legend and March Madness personality [autotag]Charles Barkley[/autotag] was hilariously beside himself after watching Grand Canyon play the dumbest game of basketball he has also ever seen. Barkley said of the game, “I’m not sure what they were doing offensively, I don’t think they ran a play in the entire second half… That was some of the dumbest basketball I’ve ever seen grown college men play. [autotag]Mark Sears[/autotag] was the only guy who played with complete composure the entire game. Congratulations to Alabama University it’s a great school and [autotag]Nate Oats[/autotag] does a great job.”

The Tide will be back in action Thursday evening when they take on the No. 1 seeded North Carolina Tar Heels in the Sweet 16. Alabama enters the contest as a 4.5-point underdog.

Charles Barkley called the Grand Canyon loss to Alabama ‘the dumbest game of basketball’

Charles Barkley ripped the Lopes so much.

Charles Barkley is famously an Auburn alum, so you’d figure he’d show some bias against Alabama given their rivalry.

Nope. At least on Sunday, after Grand Canyon lost to Alabama in the second round of 2024 March Madness, the Hall of Famer congratulated the Crimson Tide on the win while ripping the Lopes.

“That was the dumbest game of basketball I may have ever seen,” he said on CBS. “I don’t think they ran a play the entire second half. … That was some of the dumbest basketball I’ve ever seen grown college men [play].”

“They just went one-on-one every single time. They didn’t run any plays!” he added.

Whew!

A Charles Barkley-themed blimp set Ernie Johnson up for the perfect joke

Okay, Ernie Johnson wins this round.

Legendary TNT sports broadcaster Ernie Johnson and former NBA star-turned-commentator Charles Barkley have a very strong friendship and on-air partnership, but those two will never miss a good joke.

As Capital One debuted a giant blimp themed after Barkley, the “Chuck Blimp,” that will travel to Phoenix, Arizona, for the Final Four, Johnson found the absolutely perfect moment to roast his pal and co-worker.

If you’re wondering, oh yes, Johnson said that the blimp’s Barkley head is accurate to size for Barkley’s actual head.

Now this is the kind of March Madness roasting that we need. You can bet that Barkley got a huge kick out of that and the blimp in general.

Johnson and Barkley’s rapport is one of the best parts of Inside the NBA and basically anything those two do in sports broadcasting, and we have to hand it to Johnson. That was a pretty sick burn on Barkley.

Charles Barkley and Kenny Smith faced off in a very funny game of March Madness ‘Name That Mascot’

Come play “Name That Mascot” with Charles Barkley and Kenny Smith!

During the first weekend of March Madness coverage, TNT’s Ernie Johnson and CBS Sports’ Clark Kellogg decided to test their fellow basketball analysts Charles Barkley and Kenny Smith in a mascot trivia game.

In a spirited round of “Name That Mascot,” Barkley and Smith had to try and guess who the mascots were as they were held up, and the results were expectedly hysterical.

We’re not really sure who “won” this game, but we felt like winners as Barkley and Smith riffed with each other about their answers and the mascots at hand.

All in all, this was a very fun break from all of Saturday’s basketball action, which you can also enjoy below.

Charles Barkley rooting for Michigan State to spite Kenny Smith was perfectly petty

Charles Barkley couldn’t help getting a few digs in at his co-host during March Madness

Charles Barkley doesn’t need to do a ton of research when it comes to picking his favorite teams each year in the men’s NCAA tournament.

If his Auburn Tigers are in the big dance, he’ll ride with his alma mater. And if the Tigers get knocked out — like they did on Friday in a massive Yale upset — he’ll just root for which ever teams are playing against the favorite teams of his NBA on TNT co-hosts.

With No. 1 North Carolina facing No. 9 Michigan State on Saturday, Barkley was asked about joining the Tom Izzo bandwagon and gave a very succinct and sarcastic answer.

“I want Izzo to win because I hate Kenny [Smith].” Barkley joked.

Smith seemed thrilled about the development.

Knowing you’ve just gotten under Barkley’s skin must still be so satisfying after all these years. Especially when Charles has certainly had worse reasons for picking teams in March.

WATCH: Nick Foles, Jalen Hurts among those congratulating Jason Kelce on retirement

A sixth-round draft pick out of the University of Cincinnati in 2011, Kelce started and played in 193 games over his 13 seasons.

Jason Kelce is the fifth center in NFL history with at least six All-Pro selections. The other four — Jim Otto, Bulldog Turner, Dermotti Dawson, and Jim Ringo — are all in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
