Draft Wire mock shows Jags addressing lines of scrimmage in 2022

Jaguars address OL and DL in this two-round 2022 mock from Draft Wire.

If there are two areas that the Jaguars left relatively unchanged this offseason, it’s the offensive and defensive lines of scrimmage. On the offensive side, the only major addition was second-round tackle Walker Little, and while the team added several players on the defensive line like Roy Robertson-Harris, none of the additions stand out as particularly splashy.

That’s why it stands to reason those will be positions the team will look to address heavily after the 2021 season. According to the latest 2022 two-round mock draft from Draft Wire’s Luke Easterling, the Jags bolstered their personnel in the trenches with their first two picks.

Easterling projects the team will receive the sixth overall pick next year, which will be used to draft Texas A&M defensive end, DeMarvin Leal. The rising junior totaled just 37 tackles (down one from his freshman year) and 2.5 sacks. He’ll need to boost that production if he wants to be a top-10 pick, but the talent is clearly there. Plus, his 6-foot-4-inch, 290-pound frame gives him prototypical size for a hand-in-the-dirt defensive end.

Jacksonville hopes it already has a pair of future star edge rushers in Josh Allen and K’Lavon Chaisson, but Leal would give the team another starting-caliber option for an interior 3-4 end.

With the team’s second-round pick, Easterling projects the team will go for an offensive tackle once again, this time Ohio State’s Thayer Munford. The fifth-year senior is one of the most experienced offensive linemen in all of college football, with 33 collegiate starts to his name.

He enters 2021 as a fourth-year starter, and though he needs to show more to justify a potential first-round selection, he’d be an excellent option with the 38th pick, as Easterling projects. Munford was the top offensive tackle in the Power Five last year in terms of pressure percentage allowed, per Pro Football Focus, at just 1.2%.

Assuming Cam Robinson, who was franchise tagged this offseason, walks at the end of the year, that would leave Little as the presumptive starter. He’s a bit of a project player, and it wouldn’t be a bad idea to add another talented player like Munford to the mix.

Obviously, a playoff-contending season for the Jags would change this outlook markedly, but for now, it seems like a solid guess at what the team’s plans will be next April.

PFF names four Ohio State players on its Preseason All-American First Team

PFF loves it some Ohio State football players when talking about its First Team All-American squad for 2021.

It won’t be the last time we look at one of these as we get closer and closer to the start of the Ohio State football season (now just a couple of months away). It’s another preseason All-American team, this time from the folks at Pro Football Focus.

We’ve already seen numerous Buckeyes appear on other lists, and it’s no different with PFF. In fact, if we’re simply looking at the First Team, the popular online analytics-driven performance site has four Ohio State players appearing.

You’ve been down this road before and can probably name at least one or two of those wearing scarlet and gray that PFF identified, but maybe one or two are a surprise, at least as far as making it on the First Team.

Let’s run through the players that PFF honored before anything kicks off in 2021.

Three Ohio State players named 2021 preseason Walter Camp All-Americans

The 2021 Preseason Walter Camp All-American Teams have been announced and there are three Ohio State football players appearing.

We’re about to enter that season. No, it’s not summer or football season we’re talking about (well, maybe a little), but it’s about time for all the preseason watch lists and predictions to make the rounds for the upcoming college football season. Like them or leave them, it’s a sign that football is just around the corner.

And so it is with the release of the 2021 Walter Camp Preseason All-American teams that were just revealed Thursday. Ohio State seems to always have good representation on these things because the Buckeye program is pretty good at this whole American football thing, and that’s certainly the case heading into 2021 as well.

In fact, there are three OSU players listed on the team. You can probably take a guess at who they are, and there are some that probably could have made the cut as well. But at this point, the Walter Camp Foundation has identified the following three Ohio State players on the First Team. with none being named to the Second Team.

Six Ohio State football players appear in PFF’s top ten returning position players for 2021

Pro Football Focus identified the top ten returning college football players for 2021 and there are six Ohio State players appearing.

Ohio State once again lost a slew of players to the NFL draft. In fact, the Buckeyes are the only program to have sent at least ten to the next level over the last two years.

And while that’s a good thing when it comes to selling the program, it would make one believe there’s a lot to replace for this fall. There’s some truth to that, but it doesn’t mean that there’s not still a ton of talent coming back on the roster. At Ohio State, there is depth and talent just waiting to ooze out the next season. So it is in 2021.

In fact, Pro Football Focus is a big believer in some of the talent coming back to OSU’s roster as well. It published a top ten list of returning college football players at each position this fall, and the Buckeyes have six appearing across different groups.

Let’s see what Anthony Treash of PFF thinks.

NEXT … A Dynamic Deep Threat

Pro Football Focus has this Ohio State player as one of the top returning offensive lineman

An Ohio State lineman appeared in Pro Football Focus’ top ten returning at the position group heading into the 2021 college football season.

Ohio State may have lost out on the ultimate prize of winning the national championship when Alabama took care of business in Miami, but the Buckeyes got some good news on some players that opted to return rather than head to the NFL.

With Wyatt Davis and Josh Myers moving on to the next level, the offensive line will need to retool a bit to continue to be one of the best units in the country. The good news is that OSU got some pleasant, rather unexpected news from left tackle Thayer Munford, who opted to use the ability of seniors to come back for one more year because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Because of it, there’s a pretty good cornerstone to build around, and one in which protecting the edge will be fairly locked down with an experienced and talented performer.

Just how good is Munford? Many experts are beginning to consider him one of the best in the country on the offensive line, and Pro Football Focus is the latest to do so. The popular player grading website recently published its top ten returning offensive linemen for the 2021 college football season, and Munford is included.

Here’s where PFF has Munford ranked and what it says about the veteran.

WATCH: Thayer Munford Chapter 5 Ohio State football trailer

Ohio State left tackle Thayer Munford is coming back for one more season. He’s so excited he dropped a trailer for everyone to see.

Ohio State football left tackler Thayer Munford surprised a lot of folks by announcing a decision to come back to Ohio State after his senior season last year. He was one of the few that took advantage of the NCAA allowing seniors to come back for one more year because of the coronavirus pandemic.

It’ll be Munford’s fifth-year in Columbus. He has been a starter at left tackle for the last three years and one of the most experienced offensive lineman in the country. Needless to say, his return means a ton for the Buckeyes next year as they break in a new quarterback and lose several key pieces from last year’s squad that made it all the way to the national championship game.

Munford appears to be excited about coming back to the banks of the Olentangy, so much so that he had a trailer made to commemorate the decision. It’s pretty good and will get you pumped set to the backdrop of “Runnin” by 21 Savage x Metro Boomin.

We can’t overstate how important Munford’s return is for Ohio State. He’ll be protecting the edge for whatever quarterback wins the starting job next year.

Ohio State offensive lineman Thayer Munford will return for 2021 season

Munford coming back to Ohio State is a huge boost for the Buckeyes and their offensive line. He announced his decision Saturday.

Thayer Munford has been a mainstay on the Ohio State offensive line for the past several years. And he has been a good one. After returning for his senior year, most thought Munford would head to the NFL, including our writers here at Buckeyes Wire.

Instead, in a somewhat surprising move, the OSU left tackle announced on Twitter that he would return to “finish what he started.”

This is a huge win for the Buckeyes and the offensive line. Munford has tons of experience as a three-year starter, and he even played in games as a true freshman in 2017.

Munford shared it was heartbreaking to get so close to the national championship trophy only to see other teams lift it up. He also stated he wanted to get his college degree before he leaves, a promise he made to himself and his family.

It would be easy to leave college for NFL riches, as Munford was projected as high as a third- to fourth-round draft pick. But you have to respect a young man who made a promise and intends to keep it.
