AP Top 25: did Texas basketball do enough to stay ranked?

The newest top 25 for college basketball was released. Where did the Texas Longhorns fall?

Today, the newest iteration of the AP Top 25 poll came out for men’s basketball, and Texas did not make the cut. The voters obviously didn’t care for Texas’ tough loss to unranked Georgetown, and a win over Cal to secure third place in the 2k Empire Classic wasn’t enough to keep the Longhorns in.

Texas will not have much of a chance to get back into the top 25 this week, as the Longhorns only have one game on the schedule this week – a matchup against the 2-5 McNeese State Cowboys.

With potential College Football Playoff teams Oregon and Penn State losing over the weekend some folks at Alabama, Baylor and Oklahoma got excited about their potential chances for making the playoff.

So what does it mean for Notre Dame? Are the chances of getting to a New Years Six Bowl different after last week? Here’s what the experts have happening for Notre Dame after the conclusion of week 13.

It wouldn’t appear what happened yesterday was good for Notre Dame’s chances at a New Year’s Six Bowl. The way things sit now it would appear they’re headed to Orlando for the former Blockbuster turned Carquest turned MicronPC turned Mazda turned Champ Sports turned Russell Athletic turned Camping World Bowl.

How does Notre Dame get to Dallas instead? Douglas Farmer from NBC Sports did a good job creating a path.

It’s possible no-doubt but with the CFP Committee making clear last week how much they value results against common opponents (something I hate) I have trouble seeing how Notre Dame gets past Penn State who won against Michigan compared to the Irish who got rolled in Ann Arbor.

Texas remains unranked in the AP poll after losing to Baylor. With rivalry week this week, a lot of ranked matchups are on the schedule.

The Longhorns remain unranked in the AP poll after Saturday’s 24-10 loss on the road to Baylor. The Bears moved up two spots to No. 11, just missing out on the top 10 by three points.

The team that fell the most was No. 14 Oregon. Losing on the road to Arizona State, the Ducks’ playoff hopes are finished as they pick up their second loss of the season.

With rivalry week ahead of us, there are a few ranked matchups that set up for a great weekend. The biggest one will be No. 2 Ohio State traveling to the Big House to face No. 10 Michigan. The Wolverines have not beaten the Buckeyes since 2011.

Other games include the Iron Bowl, with No. 5 Alabama facing No. 16 Auburn, No. 9 Minnesota hosts No. 13 Wisconsin for the right to go to the Big 10 championship, and No. 7 Oklahoma goes to Stillwater to play No. 21 Oklahoma State in Bedlam.

Unranked Texas will face unranked Texas Tech on Friday at 11:00 a.m.

Amway Coaches Poll: Texas remains unranked

Texas remains unranked after losing on the road to Baylor. Oklahoma and Baylor are the other Big 12 teams ranked and are inside the top 10.

Texas remains unranked in the Amway Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports after a disappointing loss to Baylor on Saturday. The 24-10 loss was the Longhorns’ second loss in a row and moved Texas to 2-4 in their last six games.

The top five remain the same, but Utah takes over at No. 6 as No. 13 Oregon suffered a loss on the road to Arizona State. The Utes are the PAC 12’s remaining hope for the College Football Playoff.

Fellow Big 12 members Oklahoma stay at No. 7, Baylor moves up three spots to No. 10, and Oklahoma State moves up two spots to No. 21.

Postgame Report: Texas demolished by Baylor, 24-10

The Texas Longhorns dropped another game against the Baylor Bears today, losing 24-10

Going into today’s matchup with Baylor, this was a chance to earn a little bit of redemption for the Longhorns. After an overall disappointing season, this was a chance for Texas to right the ship or show some progress. Instead, the Baylor Bears embarrassed the Longhorns. Though the score doesn’t imply a blowout, Texas was never in control and the lone touchdown on the day came in garbage time on a 4-yard Daniel Young run.

Quarterback Sam Ehlinger finished the game with 22/37 passing for 200 yards, no touchdowns, and one interception. He added 19 attempts on the ground for 79 yards in one of the worst performances of the year. Devin Duvernay picked up where he left off, catching 10 passes for 78 yards.

Texas played a sloppy game, reflected in the three unsportsmanlike penalties they accrued in the second half. Frustration is to be expected, but repeated offenses like that can call coaching into question.

The standout performer for the Longhorns was running back Keaontay Ingram, who finished the game with 7 rushes for 86 yards. Ingram came up with the best play of the game for Texas, and one of a very small handful of highlights. With 18 seconds before halftime, Texas was down 7-0 to the Baylor Bears and backed up to its own end zone. The Longhorns hand the ball off to Keaontay Ingram to run the clock down and head to the locker room, but Ingram takes it 68 yards into field goal range with 4 seconds on the clock. After that long run put Texas in field goal range, Cameron Dicker hit the field goal to put points on the board and head into the locker room down 7-3:

Injury Alert: DeMarvion Overshown out for the remainder of the game

Texas Longhorns DB DeMarvion Overshown will not return

In a tough game for Texas, the hits just keep on coming. Earlier, Keaontay Ingram got injured on what would be the best play of the game for the Longhorns’ offense. Ingram injured his ankle and will not return. Now, DB DeMarvion Overshown is also out for the remainder of the game with an ankle injury.

More unfortunate news for the Texas Longhorns. On his 68-yard run to put Texas in field goal range at the end of the first half, Keaontay Ingram injured his ankle and Texas announced that he will not return to the game. Roschon Johnson is used to stepping up, so hopefully he can provide the energy the Longhorns need to come back from a two-score deficit in the second half.
