Pregame buzz as No. 21 Texas prepares to face No. 23 Louisiana in the season opener

Current and former players, staff members, recruits and fans are ALL GAS today.

In what felt like years to get to this point, it’s finally game day for the Texas football program.

The Steve Sarkisian era is officially kicking off at 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 4 against Louisiana. If you’re reading this now, you’ve likely already heard about how experienced, talented and well-coached this Ragin’ Cajuns team is.

It’s certainly no easy task for a new coaching staff and inexperienced quarterback under center. Hudson Card will be making his first career start for Texas, although Sarkisian did mention that he will go with his gut in terms of whether Casey Thompson will see the field or not.

Ohio State and UNC each got off to a slow start in their season openers against unranked opponents this week, something that Texas can’t allow to happen against No. 23 Louisiana. Growing pains are expected, especially with Card, but the Longhorns have more depth and overall talent to navigate through the mishaps and heat. Don’t forget that ‘survive and advance’ is all that matters in Week 1.

Many fans, former players and general college football fans are excited and anxious to see whether Sarkisian will live up to his ‘All Gas, No Brakes’ mentality. Under former head coach Tom Herman, the Longhorns struggled to put their foot on the gas and bury an opponent.

Take a look at some of the pregame buzz on social media ahead of the game.
