Game-by-game predictions for Texas’ 2022 schedule per ESPN’s FPI

ESPN’s FPI has Texas as the underdog in only one game on their schedule.

Thanks to a strong haul of transfer portal additions this offseason, along with landing the No. 5 recruiting class in the country for the 2022 cycle, Texas is favored in every game this season aside from one. Continue reading “Game-by-game predictions for Texas’ 2022 schedule per ESPN’s FPI”

Texas Football: Kickoff times set for three nonconference games

How important is Texas’ game against Alabama in Week 2?

If Texas loses to Alabama, all they want to accomplish is still ahead of them.

Ever since Texas lost to Alabama in the 2009 National Championship game and entered into the football version of the great depression for the program, many fans have clamored for revenge.

However, as Texas has not been able to reach the College Football Playoff or the national championship game in that time, the revenge has not been able to happen.

The long-awaited matchup will finally take place on Sept. 10. The Longhorns will welcome the Crimson Tide to Austin in what is sure to be a sold-out game. Alabama will bring along Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young as well as elite pass rushers Will Anderson and Dallas Turner. Meanwhile, Texas has many questions but not many answers.

What does this Week 2 game mean for the Texas football program? While many fans will not want to hear this, at the end of the day it means no more than any other exhibition game.

The goal for this year is to win at least nine games and appear in the Big 12 championship game (which are always the minimum goals at Texas). Defeating Alabama would help with the first goal, but not with the second and ultimate goal.

For this reason, Longhorn fans should treat this game just like any other nonconference game. Winning it would be great, and they should strive to do so. But losing, even if in a bad fashion, would not be the end of the world. For evidence of this, remember that in 2016 USC faced Alabama to open the season and lost 52-6 in Dallas. They then went on to win 10 games and the Rose Bowl.

Don’t forget that this will be a young Texas team in Week 2. Their best football will still be ahead of them. Baptism by fire is precisely what they need.

If Texas loses to Alabama, all they want to accomplish is still ahead of them. Don’t lose sight of the forest through the trees.

Game-by-game score predictions for Texas’ 2022 schedule

Predicting the score of every Texas game in 2022. Some blowout wins, some heartbreaking losses.

On paper, Texas is poised for a bounce-back season in 2022.

That phrase is certainly interchangeable, and has likely been used prior to every season for this past decade when talking about Texas’ football team. However, Steve Sarkisian’s team has made some major additions to fix the problems they had last season.  Also, it is hard to play worse than Texas did last year while they were in the middle of the six-game skid.

Similar to 2021, there is a stretch of Texas’ schedule that has the gravity to either make or break the season, which will be a great test to determine what kind of team Sarkisian fields in 2022.

As always, a Texas football season can either go extremely well, or it can go down in a dumpster fire. Since 2009, it has seemed to be the latter of the two, as Tom Herman has been the only coach since Mack Brown to be able to manufacture a truly successful season.

Sarkisian and Texas have a prime opportunity to not only turn it around, but maybe play their way to Dallas for the Big 12 Championship.

Here is a game-by-game prediction for Texas’ 2022 schedule.

Big 12 conference announces Texas’ 2022 football schedule

What do you think of Texas’ conference schedule for 2022?

It is very well known that both Texas and Oklahoma are slated to head to the SEC, but it seems the move will not take place next season.

The Big 12 released the football schedules for the conference on Wednesday, and both Texas and Oklahoma were included, meaning that they will play at least one more year in the conference before leaving for the SEC.

In the case of the Longhorns, that is probably for the best as it would be ideal to leave the conference on a high note, rather than leaving the conference with a 3-6 record and a loss to Kansas.

Similar to the schedule format of last season, Texas will in fact have a very tough slate of games in the middle of the schedule that can dictate the trajectory of their season.

Let’s take a look at Texas’ conference schedule for the 2022 season.

Big 12 announces early kickoff time for Texas’ road trip vs TCU

Texas’ Week 5 game against TCU will kick off at 11 a.m. in Fort Worth. It is just the third time the two will have an early game since 2012.

[mm-video type=video id=01fg2d8r03zq4gpdpkfh playlist_id=01eqbz52bnpekkafqb player_id=none image=https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/video/thumbnail/mmplus/01fg2d8r03zq4gpdpkfh/01fg2d8r03zq4gpdpkfh-cbf679fa098b4e23bed890dc0200fbec.jpg]

Texas fans have been gifted with kickoff times so far this season. The season opener against Louisiana was at 3:30, while Arkansas and Rice have both been in the later window.

The run of good luck seems to have expired.

On Oct. 2, Texas’ Week 5 matchup against TCU will kick off at 11 a.m. CDT in Fort Worth. It is just the third time the two will have an early game since the Horned Frogs joined the conference in 2012.

When on the road, getting an early game is more beneficial. Especially at a venue like Amon G. Carter Stadium. TCU fans will still provide an incredible environment but everybody knows a night game makes for better atmospheres.

Baylor at Oklahoma State and Kansas at No. 15 Iowa State won out for the coveted late kickoffs. You can check out the Big 12’s full schedule here:

With Saturday’s game against Texas Tech also being an 11 a.m. kickoff, there is a chance Texas will have three straight early games. The Big 12/ESPN has not announced a time for the Red River Shootout but if we are going off history, 11 a.m. is likely.
