No. 20 Texas suffers an ugly 80-63 loss to No. 10 Baylor

Texas had no answer for Baylor’s sharp shooting offense.

Texas had no answer for the sharp-shooting Baylor offense on Saturday. The Bears controlled the game for the jump, taking down the Horns 80-63.

The Bears dominated all portions of the game. They shot 50% for the field compared to Texas’ 32%, won the rebound battle by double digits and went 22-27 from the free-throw line.

All five Baylor starters scored in double figures, led by junior guard Adam Flager with 20.

Texas got back into the game in the second with an 8-0 run that cut the Baylor lead to 12. The Bears responded quickly, hitting their next three shots and never looking back.

With the win, Baylor moves into second place in the Big 12 while Texas drops down the fourth.

Up next for Texas is a road trip to Norman to take on their arch-rival Sooners. Texas got the better of Oklahoma in the first matchup between the two, 66-52.

Why Baylor Will Win

At the very least, the Bears are rested. They haven’t played since October 3rd, and they’ve had plenty of time to prepare for the Longhorn offense. More importantly, they’ve had time to get ready to attack a defense that’s not stopping anyone.

Want to throw on the Longhorns? Go ahead – it’s allowing enough downfield plays to keep giving it a shot. Want to run the ball? TCU and Oklahoma both rolled for over 200 yards.

It’s been just two games, but the Bears have been able to keep the defensive pressure going from last year – registering 18 tackles for loss and six sacks – and they should keep the pressure on Sam Ehinger and company.

Why Texas Will Win

The Texas defense might have a problem, but the offense has been rolling. A lot of the big plays might be coming in comeback mode, but the passing attack is averaging over 300 yards per game, and when it pounds away, the ground game works, too.

Baylor might have a slew of nice playmakers, but it doesn’t have the machine Texas has. It leads the nation in scoring, and it can move the ball however it wants to.

No, the Longhorn defense hasn’t tackled well and it’s a problem, but it leads the Big 12 in takeaways. The line can generate pressure, too.

What’s Going To Happen

It’s 2020 Texas in the Big 12. It’s going to play to the level of the competition, it’ll be down, it’ll be hopelessly out of it at one point with nothing quite going right, and then Sam Ehlinger will get hot and bring the team right back within range of pulling it off.

Only, Texas won’t have to work as hard as it did in the win over Texas Tech, and it won’t buckle like it did against TCU and Oklahoma.

At least for a little while, the team will be good enough to take the focus off of “The Eyes of Texas” controversy.

Postgame Report: Texas demolished by Baylor, 24-10

The Texas Longhorns dropped another game against the Baylor Bears today, losing 24-10

Going into today’s matchup with Baylor, this was a chance to earn a little bit of redemption for the Longhorns. After an overall disappointing season, this was a chance for Texas to right the ship or show some progress. Instead, the Baylor Bears embarrassed the Longhorns. Though the score doesn’t imply a blowout, Texas was never in control and the lone touchdown on the day came in garbage time on a 4-yard Daniel Young run.

Quarterback Sam Ehlinger finished the game with 22/37 passing for 200 yards, no touchdowns, and one interception. He added 19 attempts on the ground for 79 yards in one of the worst performances of the year. Devin Duvernay picked up where he left off, catching 10 passes for 78 yards.

Texas played a sloppy game, reflected in the three unsportsmanlike penalties they accrued in the second half. Frustration is to be expected, but repeated offenses like that can call coaching into question.

The standout performer for the Longhorns was running back Keaontay Ingram, who finished the game with 7 rushes for 86 yards. Ingram came up with the best play of the game for Texas, and one of a very small handful of highlights. With 18 seconds before halftime, Texas was down 7-0 to the Baylor Bears and backed up to its own end zone. The Longhorns hand the ball off to Keaontay Ingram to run the clock down and head to the locker room, but Ingram takes it 68 yards into field goal range with 4 seconds on the clock. Check out the long run here:

After that long run put Texas in field goal range, Cameron Dicker hit the field goal to put points on the board and head into the locker room down 7-3:

Injury Alert: DeMarvion Overshown out for the remainder of the game

Texas Longhorns DB DeMarvion Overshown will not return

In a tough game for Texas, the hits just keep on coming. Earlier, Keaontay Ingram got injured on what would be the best play of the game for the Longhorns’ offense. Ingram injured his ankle and will not return. Now, DB DeMarvion Overshown is also out for the remainder of the game with an ankle injury.

Texas hasn’t gotten anything going, and Baylor is having it’s way with the Longhorns, as the Bears lead 24-3 in the fourth quarter. If you aren’t doing anything anyway and want to check out the end of the game, Here is everything you need to know to watch, listen, or stream.

More unfortunate news for the Texas Longhorns. On his 68-yard run to put Texas in field goal range at the end of the first half, Keaontay Ingram injured his ankle and Texas announced that he will not return to the game. Roschon Johnson is used to stepping up, so hopefully he can provide the energy the Longhorns need to come back from a two-score deficit in the second half.

A win here against the Bears gives Texas something to build on going forward and represents some movement in the right direction after a season that has not gone according to plan. Here is everything you need to know to watch, listen, or stream the game.

Texas didn’t play a great first half. The offense never got into rhythm, and continuously stalled on drive after drive. Keaontay Ingram put the team on his back as he gashed the Baylor defense for 68-yards to give Cameron Dicker (the kicker) a shot to put the Longhorns on the board. Dicker predictably knocks it through, and Texas heads into the locker room for the half down 7-3 to the Baylor Bears.

The Longhorns really needed this. With 18 seconds before halftime, Texas was down 7-0 to the Baylor Bears and backed up to its own end zone. Watch: Sam Ehlinger somehow slips out of would-be safety and throws for a first down

Sam Ehlinger is a mad man. As Texas trails by one score to Baylor in the second quarter, the Longhorns’ offense is in desperate need of a spark. Fortunately, Sam Ehlinger has delivered those time after time. Here, as Texas is backed up into their endzone, Baylor sends heat on a delayed blitz but can’t take down the Longhorns’ QB. Ehlinger slips out of the tackle and delivers a strike through the hit to Malcolm Epps for the first down.

Texas Longhorns updated depth chart for game against Baylor

Looking at the Texas Longhorns updated depth chart for their matchup against the Baylor Bears

The Texas Longhorns have released their updated depth chart for Saturday’s matchup against the Baylor Bears.

Both Texas and Baylor are looking to get into the Big 12 Championship. Baylor just needs to win one of their remaining games to get in. Texas needs to win both their last two games and hope other matchups around the conference pan out.

Baylor has been a very good team this year, suffering only one loss, which came last weekend against the Oklahoma Sooners. Texas will need to play a nearly perfect game if they want a chance at an upset.

With that being said, here is the updated depth chart for Texas.
