Texans WR Tank Dell suffers minor injuries in Florida shooting, expected to make full recovery

Houston Texans wide receiver Tank Dell was shot on Saturday evening in Florida but is expected to make a full recovery before the season.

Houston Texans wide receiver Tank Dell suffered minor injuries after being shot as an innocent bystander in a mass shooting at a nightclub Saturday evening in Sanford, Florida.

Dell was treated for his wounds and released from the hospital Sunday. He is expected to make a full recovery and be cleared to participate in football activities later this offseason.

“We have been made aware that Tank Dell was a victim of a shooting in Sanford, Fla., last night,” the Texans said in a statement. “He sustained a minor wound, but has been released from the hospital and he is in good spirits. We are in contact with him and his family and will provide more updates when appropriate, but we ask that you please respect his privacy at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved in the incident.”

According to KPRC 2 Sports’ Aaron Wilson, Dell was visiting family in Dayton Beach, Florida, and was out at a private bar when the shooting occurred. According to The Associated Press, a fistfight broke out, leading to someone not involved in the fight to begin shooting into the crowd.

According to the police report, Dell was not involved in the altercation and was simply caught in the crossfire. He was one of 10 people hit by the gunfire, all of whom suffered non-life threatening injuries.

A 16-year-old suspect was arrested and taken to a juvenile detention center, according to Florida Today. The suspect was charged with attempted homicide, firing a weapon in a public place, using a firearm during a felony and illegal possession of a firearm by a minor.

Dell, a 2023 third-round pick out of Houston, proved to be an essential piece of the Texans’ revamped offense last season and a consistent No. 2 weapon opposite Nico Collins. In 10 games, he caught 47 passes for 709 yards and seven touchdowns, helping Houston secure its first division title in four years.

Dell was on pace to break Andre Johnson’s rookie receiving record with over 1,200 yards before suffering a season-ending leg injury in Week 13’s win over the Denver Broncos. He underwent surgery this offseason and has been rehabbing with NFL trainer Justin Allen and private coach Delfonte Diamond.

Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud worked out with Dell earlier this month in Los Angeles and said he was pleased with his development from Year 1 to Year 2.

“He looks great,” Stroud said. “He’s gotten a lot better. Mentally, I think for both of us, really all of the rookies coming into Year 2, everything is starting to slow down, and the wheels aren’t turning so much up in your head. You’re starting to play ball. Being able to throw with him in L.A. was really big.”

Dell was back in the building with the Texans for voluntary workouts last week and participated in the jersey unveiling earlier at the Texans’ release party last Tuesday.

Texans VP Hannah McNair rips Titans, ready to renew AFC rivalry

Hannah McNair made sure to reignite the rivalry between the Houston Texans and Tennessee Titans after the new uniforms released yesterday.

The Houston Texans’ new uniforms are a buzz among fans in the 713 area and among fans across the country on X and Instagram

Well, almost every fan seems to enjoy the fresh fits heading into the draft.

The Tennessee Titans might not be pleased that Houston’s “H-Town Blue” presents a similar color scheme to that of the Oilers’ “Columbia Blue” from back in the day. When Bud Adams decided to hightail it out of Houston in 1996, he also took the rights to all Oilers’ property, including the logo and color scheme.

Initially, “H-Town Blue” was expected to be more visible on the jerseys, but the league decided to step in and burst the bubble at the 11th hour.

During an interview on SportsRadio 610’s In the Loop, Texans owner Cal McNair and his wife Hannah, who also is vice president of the Houston Texans Foundation, made it clear they wanted to use light blue as a predominant look beside the “H” on the color rush uniforms or in “H-Town” stitching but compromised to make the league and the Adams family happy.

“We heard that loud and clear from our fans: They wanted H-Town Blue represented. They wanted Houston represented,” Cal McNair said Tuesday So, we worked with the NFL, and there was some push and shove and we came to where we could get to with the NFL, giving us a compromise, sort of a certain percentage in the uniform. I think our fans would like more, and we’re probably in that same boat, but we’re working with the powers that be with the league and all that stuff to get to where we could get.”

The Titans would have been furious at the design, leading to the NFL getting involved way past their pay grade. Earlier this year, the franchise had the NFL send a cease-and-desist letter to the Houston Cougars for wearing uniforms that were similar to the Oilers in a “Love-Ya Blue” font.

Hannah McNair said the league actually granted Houston the right to use a slightly different blue similar to the old-school colors. When the rest of the league found out about the design, things took a significant turn.

“We got approval to do thatthat’s when we started getting some pushback,” Hannah said. “And then it got to a point where they just said no you can’t, and then we compromised.”

Hannah was then asked what was the reason for pushback from the league. Without missing a beat, she bluntly said, “What do you think?”

Houston fans were enraged last season when the Titans announced they’d be donning the Oilers throwback uniforms for two games, including the home matchup against the Texans. The AFC South winners had the last laugh with Offensive Rookie of the Year C.J. Stroud under center, turning to Houston alum Case Keenum in a 19-16 overtime win.

With the uniform debate being a touchy subject among the two cities, Hannah McNair didn’t mince words when hearing how some Titans fans have called her salty about the uniform look.

“Who started it, wearing it against us?” McNair said. “And if anyone was at (last year’s game in Tennessee), their in-house PA was instigating it. It was unbelievable, but also wonderful because we finished the story, OK? So, I mean, who’s salty here?”

There’s a rivalry restored in the AFC with two new designs. Of course, in Hannah fashion, she mentioned the current three-game win streak Houston’s been riding against the former franchise that once called the Astrodome home.

“Well, first they need to beat us,” Hannah said of the rivalry.

NFL fans fall in love with Texans’ battle red look against the Jaguars

See what NFL fans are saying about the Houston Texans’ battle red look against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Houston Texans busted out their best attire for a first place showdown with the Jacksonville Jagaurs.

With an impending Week 12 matchup with the Jaguars, the current kings of the AFC South, the Texans decided to use their battle red jerseys.

Not only did the Texans go with their red uniforms, but added a touch with red pants and red helmets.

Given the all red look, Texans fans were all for it. How did the rest of the NFL feel?

Here are some of the best responses.

Texans could add Oilers color to new 2024 uniforms

The Houston Texans have heard their fans and have suggested looking into adding Oilers blue into their 2024 uniforms.

The Tennessee Titans may own the Houston Oilers franchise records and uniform designs, but they can’t own a color — not unless their chief counsel is Howard Hamlin.

According to “In the Loop” co-host John Lopez, Houston Texans senior vice president of marketing and communications/chief marketing officer Doug Vosik joined the Sports Radio 610 [KILT-AM] program to talk about the future of the team’s uniforms.

“Texans marketing SVP Doug Vosik just confirmed, ‘we got you’ when asked about the H-Town Blue color being a part of the @HoustonTexans 2024 uniforms,” Lopez tweeted.

“H-Town Blue” is identical to the Oilers’ Columbia Blue jerseys they wore from 1975-96, and even for their two seasons thereafter as the “Tennessee Oilers” until the Titans name change in 1999.

The Houston Rockets have a version with Columbia Blue called the “city edition” and even the Astros have worn a similar color scheme.

Adding a color dear to Houston sports fans would connect the two franchises while also continue to entangle the AFC South rivalry with the Titans.

Tennessee Titans to wear Houston Oilers throwbacks against the Texans

The Tennessee Titans announced they will wear their Houston Oilers throwbacks in Week 15 against the Houston Texans.

The Tennessee Titans announced Thursday they will be wearing their Houston Oilers throwback jerseys against the Houston Texans on Dec. 17.

The Week 15 encounter at Nissan Stadium is the first meeting of the series between the Texans and Titans. Kickoff is slated for 12:00 p.m. Central Time.

The Titans have not worn Oilers throwbacks since 2009 when the NFL commemorated 50 seasons since the formation of the AFL, of which the Oilers were a charter member.

Tennessee’s 2023 version will be the uniforms sported by the Oilers from 1975-98, the last two seasons incorporating a patch denoting their move to Tennessee.

The subject has been prickly for Houston sports fans, and will continue to be a source of aggravation far beyond the Week 15 game.

Texans K Ka’imi Fairbairn can name price if C.J. Stroud wants No. 7

If new Houston Texans QB C.J. Stroud wants to keep wearing No. 7, he will have to make a deal with K Ka’imi Fairbairn.

One big winner from the Houston Texans’ first night of the 2023 NFL draft was Ka’imi Fairbairn.

The Texans picked Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud No. 2 overall on Thursday night at Union Station in Kansas City, the site of the draft. Stroud made a name for himself with the Buckeyes in his No. 7 jersey.

If Stroud wants to continue wearing his college number, he will have to see the Texans’ kicker.

Currently Fairbairn sports the No. 7 for Houston, and has done so since 2017.

Customarily jersey numbers are bartered for, which makes the prime number valuable.

The last Texans player to wear No. 7 other than Fairbairn was quarterback Brian Hoyer in 2015.

Texans CB Desmond King claims number 0

Cornerback Desmond King will be the first No. 0 in the history of the Houston Texans.

The NFL expanded the rules to provide for the use of the number 0 among all position groups, save for offensive and defensive linemen.

With a unique jersey number available, there has been anticipation across all 32 teams as to which player would be willing to make the switch.

According to the Houston Texans’ official website, it appears that there will be a number 0 on the roster in 2023. Cornerback Desmond King switched from No. 25 to the newly available numeral.

The jersey number would mark the fourth different version in King’s career. With the Los Angeles Chargers from 2017-20, he sported the No. 20. During his nine-game stint with the Tennessee Titans to close out 2020, King had No. 33.

Other jersey number changes include Robert Woods. The free agent receiver will wear No. 2 as cornerback Tavierre Thomas, last year’s bearer of the numeral, will switch to No. 4, marking the third different jersey number he has worn in as many seasons with Houston.

Houston Texans announce jersey buyback Oct. 10-15 at NRG Stadium

The Houston Texans have announced a jersey buyback program that will run from Oct. 10-15 at the team shop inside NRG Stadium.

Houston Texans fans can finally say goodbye to an era.

Chairman and CEO Cal McNair hinted at it, and now it is happening as the Texans announced a jersey buyback program that will run from Oct. 10 through Oct. 15 at the team’s pro shop inside NRG Stadium.

Texans fans can exchange jerseys from “select” former players, according to a team release, for 44% off a new jersey. The only catch is that fans can only exchange Nike player jerseys. The Reebok jerseys from the team’s inaugural season, for instance, are ineligible.

The timeframe is also specified to players who were acquired during the 2017-21 seasons. Therefore, any Ed Reed jerseys from 2013 are also ineligible. However, players such as safety Justin Reid (2018 third-round pick) or even David Johnson (trade in 2020 offseason) are eligible.

Fans can exchange Game, Limited, or Elite jerseys for a 44% discount off the same style. They can also exchange a Limited or Elite jersey for a Game jersey.

The team says that Game jerseys are available immediately in-store at the Texans Team Shop. Limited or Elite jerseys will take three to six weeks to complete.

Custom jerseys are off limits for the exchange.

Fans must also have the jersey they intend to exchange in their possession at the time of transferal in order to receive the coupon for the jersey exchange.

Cal McNair hints Texans could offer fans a jersey swap

Houston Texans chairman and CEO Cal McNair says the team could offer fans a jersey swap if they wanted to trade in a particular jersey for another.

Houston Texans chairman and CEO Cal McNair indicated in a Reddit AMA (ask me anything) Sept. 7 that fans may be able to do something with their old jerseys.

A user asked McNair if the club planned to do a jersey swap, and stated it would be a nice way to care for fans that have stuck with the Texans through the ups and downs that began in January 2021.

McNair wrote: “Yes, we will do this in October so stay tuned for details!”

While most fans may want to trade in their jerseys for the team’s quarterback who previously played 54 games for the franchise, there are other logical candidates. For instance, J.J. Watt’s No. 99 could be eligible if fans desperately want a Dameon Pierce No. 31 jersey, or perhaps anyone still holding onto a DeAndre Hopkins No. 10 may be able to get a Jalen Pitre No. 5 jersey.

A jersey swap would be another gesture from the organization to the fans that they acknowledge what hard times they have been through, and it is time to move forward.

Texans going with traditional home uniforms in preseason opener against the Saints

The Houston Texans are going with their traditional home uniforms in their preseason opener against the New Orleans Saints at NRG Stadium.

The Houston Texans will have a new element to their Battle Red jerseys with the new Battle Red helmets, which they broke out during training camp. The Texans are willing to make changes in 2022 to infuse excitement where able.

However, the Texans are going to go with traditional garb against the New Orleans Saints in their preseason opener Aug. 13 at NRG Stadium. The Texans will wear their deep steel blue helmets, jerseys, white pants, and deep steel blue socks.

The theme for the Saints game is “The State of Football” as the Texans celebrate football at all levels in Texas. Halftime will feature a matchup between two teams from Legacy The School of Sport Sciences girls flag football teams with former Texans Travis Johnson and Fred Weary leading the teams.

Kickoff is at 7:00 p.m. Central Time.
