Texans officially release new uniforms

The wait is over as the Houston Texans have officially unveiled their new look for a new era of AFC South football.

There’s a new era coming to NRG Stadium in 2024, and a new look to the Houston Texans

The Texans officially released their four new uniforms Tuesday morning, closing the chapter on a two-decade run of the previous threads. This is the first time since the franchise kicked off its inaugural season in 2002 that the team has updated its design and look.

“Today, for the first time since 2000, we are so proud to reveal our new uniforms. They are even more special because they are inspired by and for our fans,” Houston Texans Chair and CEO Cal McNair said in a statement released by the Texans’ public relations staff.  “Our fans asked us to be more H-Town and we delivered. They were with us every step of the way and there’s truly something for everyone over the four uniforms.”

The home uniform keeps its classic feel with an updated version of the Deep Steel Blue that was the initial color when the team was announced in 2000. The jersey has an updated modification with an H-Town call-out on the inside collar. The home helmet will remain Deep Steel Blue with blue-on-blue metallic flake paint. It includes the traditional bull logo on the sides with the new H secondary logo on the back.

Not much has changed with the away uniform, either. The Liberty White jersey is traditional with a modern edge, featuring the traditional sleeve stripe on the back and sides of the jersey that transforms into a bullhorn-inspired design from the front.

The Texans released the away look early, featuring Tank Dell and Nico Collins, after it was leaked by a Twitter [or X] user several days following a sneak preview for fans and the local media,

The alternate look is where Houston embraces the change. While still Battle Red, the first alternate look helmet features candy paint red flakes, a red metallic chrome facemask, a new bullhorn-inspired helmet logo application and the Texans’ bullhead logo on the back.

As for the “Tribute to the City” look, the Texans unveiled a new H-Town Blue as the first new color introduced to the brand in team history.

Houston is also the first team in NFL history to introduce a new logo on an alternate helmet and a two-logo system across all helmets.

Texans owner Cal McNair drops photo to confirm new ‘H-Town’ helmet

Houston Texans owner Cal McNair made sure to drop one of the coldest photos online when confirming the new “H-Town” logo.

If you’re someone waiting for a confirmation on the latest Houston Texans logo and ‘H-Town’ helmet, owner Cal McNair just gave you the answer.

After a user posted a five-second video of a helmet on X (formerly Twitter) that fits the criteria of what the H-Town design was supposed to encapsulate, McNair elected to steer into the skid, posting a photo to social media wearing a hat with the new logo.

And just to add a bit more fun to the photo, McNair made sure his dog, Tex, was dressed up too, wearing a chain with the new “H” to confirm that new look.

Fans had mixed reviews on the helmet when the post surfaced. Some thought it was an upgrade over the previous bull logo that’s been the only design since the inaugural season back in 2002. Others weren’t as pleased as initially thought when the franchise announced last offseason it would be getting new threads for the 2024 campaign.

The helmet has a Deep Steel Blue undertone with a light blue “H” to represent “H-Town” as the primary logo with a red outline. The uniform itself has yet to be unveiled, so maybe the combination could actually end up living up to the expectations that fans envisioned from the jump.

The team’s X account got in on the fun, acknowledging the leak a few hours after it first surfaced on social with a leaky faucet GIF.

This isn’t the first time McNair and the organization have handled damage control of a leak. Last month, another user posted a photo of one of the models sporting the away jersey at the private unveiling for several fans who were given a sneak peek.

McNair took to Reddit to confirm the new look, posting a more crisp design of receivers Tank Dell and Nico Collins wearing the uniforms instead. The away designs feature the traditional Liberty white jerseys and Deep Steel blue pants.

The Texans still have two full uniforms and another jersey to release next Tuesday. One can only hope at this point there are no more surprises leading up to the launch of a new era of Houston football.

Texans to throw uniform release party: What do fans need to know?

The Houston Texans will have a release party for their new uniforms, and here’s everything fans need to know about the upcoming event on April 23.

The Houston Texans are dressing up and balling out under their new uniforms in 2024, and fans can get an up-close look at the designs before training camp.

The franchise announced Thursday that it would be holding a fan-exclusive uniform release party on April 23 at 713 Music Hall. The shenanigans kick off at 6:30 p.m. and will carry over until roughly 9 p.m.

And don’t worry about paying sums of cash for a sneak peek at the new threads on display. It’s a free event, but space is limited, so fans need to enter online for a chance to claim a spot.

Those wishing to attend can click here for more information. Be warned though, if you enter for a chance to win a spot, you might also be walking away with more than just a new look on Houston’s uniforms.

There will be a tattoo artist —yes, a real one who uses needles instead of paint brushes — on site passing out fresh ink. The only caveat? It has to be a Texans’ design, so don’t come showing up with plans of walking out with a half-sleeve of anything other than C.J. Stroud connecting with Stefon Diggs in the postseason.

In addition to potentially getting a fresh new look, the team also plans to have live performances from Houston artists in addition to a first-hand look at the uniforms. Fans also will have a chance to buy new merchandise before heading up to Detriot for the NFL draft beginning on Thursday.

Changes are coming to the Texans’ kits for 2024. The logo will remain the same, but the colors and combinations will differ from in years past.

The white road uniforms were already leaked on Reddit and later confirmed by owner Cal McNair on Twitter, so 25% of the new design is already out there. Houston still has a new home, Battle Red and Homage to H-Town jersey to unveil, and each design brings its own unique element to the city.

One thing fans are dying to know is if the iconic Columbia Blue was found on the Houston Oilers jerseys. Little has changed on that front since Bud Adams decided to move out of The Loop and head to Tennessee.

When Adams took the Oilers to Memphis and later Nashville, he also took the history, designs, and trademarks. Titans majority owner Amy Adams Strunk hasn’t changed the stance since taking over for her father in 2015, so there’s little Houston can do to change the stance.

Does that mean the Texans won’t bring back that nostalgic feel? Not entirely. Throughout the last two years, promotional deals have seen a shade of blue titled “H-Town Blue” to emulate something close to the old Oiler Blue outline.

Will “H-Town Blue” become the new “Steel Blue” or “Battle Blue” for home games? Only those in attendance for the event will get a chance to see it before the rest of the world.

Texans could add Oilers color to new 2024 uniforms

The Houston Texans have heard their fans and have suggested looking into adding Oilers blue into their 2024 uniforms.

The Tennessee Titans may own the Houston Oilers franchise records and uniform designs, but they can’t own a color — not unless their chief counsel is Howard Hamlin.

According to “In the Loop” co-host John Lopez, Houston Texans senior vice president of marketing and communications/chief marketing officer Doug Vosik joined the Sports Radio 610 [KILT-AM] program to talk about the future of the team’s uniforms.

“Texans marketing SVP Doug Vosik just confirmed, ‘we got you’ when asked about the H-Town Blue color being a part of the @HoustonTexans 2024 uniforms,” Lopez tweeted.

“H-Town Blue” is identical to the Oilers’ Columbia Blue jerseys they wore from 1975-96, and even for their two seasons thereafter as the “Tennessee Oilers” until the Titans name change in 1999.

The Houston Rockets have a version with Columbia Blue called the “city edition” and even the Astros have worn a similar color scheme.

Adding a color dear to Houston sports fans would connect the two franchises while also continue to entangle the AFC South rivalry with the Titans.

Report: Texans uniform redesign is ‘on track’

The Houston Texans are reportedly “on track” with their uniform redesigns.

The Houston Texans are on schedule with their uniform redesigns.

According to Greg Bailey from ABC 13 [KTRK-TV], the Texans have three new uniforms coming and are still on track to have the uniforms in time for the 2024 season.

Texans chairman and CEO Cal McNair and Texans Foundation vice president Hannah McNair indicated that there is a third uniform referred to as “the other.”

It is anyone’s guess as to what the third uniform would be. Houston sports fans may still hold out hope that the Texans in some way honor the Houston Oilers with a color scheme reminiscent of the “Luv Ya Blue” era.

Houston Texans continue their due diligence in changing uniforms

The Houston Texans provided a sneak peak at how they are changing their uniforms. Here is what @bigsargesportz learned.

HOUSTON — On Thursday, Houston Texans Chairman and CEO Cal McNair and senior vice president of marketing and communications Doug Vosik gave selected media members a sneak peek of the uniform changes they submitted to the NFL for 2024.

The franchise implored the thoughts and opinions of the fans and the community throughout the season to get a natural feel for the change.

“We knew that it was time for a change, and we want to make sure that the fans and players are an intricate part of that change,” said Vosik. “We listened what was being said in the locker room and also on all social media platforms and knew that we were on the right track.”

No details of the Texans’ uniform changes can be made public because they are still in the developmental stage. Still, from what the Texans Wire was able to observe, it was apparent that the team to a very active listening approach.

In September, McNair acknowledged to fans during a question-and-answer event held through Reddit that the team had planned on exploring new changes for 2024.

“We have already engaged the NFL to better understand the process to formally start a fan research study and the timeline and guidelines if the fan research steered towards change. No promises, but we will challenge everything, and we won’t be afraid to evolve,” said McNair.

The Texans received a very energetic response to their Battle Red helmets and uniforms they debuted against the Philadelphia Eagles in a primetime game on Thursday Night Football in Week 9.

Fans were also very enthusiastic when limited edition “H-Town” gear was made available in the team store in different variations of colors.

Houston Texans uniform change: Everything we know and how you can help

Houston Texans fans can have a say in updated the uniforms, which could roll out by the 2024 season. Here is how to help.

The Houston Texans are looking at updating their uniforms for the first time in club history.

According to the Texans’ official website, the team is putting together focus groups that include Texans Legends and the players on uniform designs. The club is taking input on color, jersey, and helmet design.

Texans chairman and CEO Cal McNair hinted in a Reddit AMA just ahead of Week 1’s kickoff against the Indianapolis Colts that the team was looking at new uniforms.

Since 2002, Houston’s colors have been Deep Steel Blue, Battle Red, and Liberty White. All uniform combinations have involved these three colors with hardly any variation from the fonts and serifs on the uniforms.

Houston added the Battle Red Helmet in 2022, which they debuted in Week 9 against the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday Night Football.

Texans senior vice president of marketing and communications told Sports Radio 610 [KILT-AM] about the whole process, citing McNair’s leadership behind the scenes.

“The amazing reaction from the fanbase and the city to the Battle Red helmet is what sparked all this,” Vosik said. “It gave us the confidence to explore new grounds. We’re finally at the phase where we can get those opinions through surveys and focus groups.”

Fans interested in taking the survey and providing feedback can find the survey here.

Houston Texans Christmas Wish List: 3 items Santa Claus must deliver for 2023

.@johnhcrumpler has a list Santa Claus needs to read if he wants to fulfill the Houston Texans’ wish list in 2023.

Many children across the country will be rushing down the stairs to see what Santa Claus and their parents brought them from their holiday wish. Some will be hoping for their first phone, others a toy they’ve wanted for a long time, and surely a few lucky high schoolers will be introduced to their first car.

The holiday season, of course, makes one wonder what an NFL team might wish for if they had the luxury of holiday gifts. The Houston Texans in particular have had a miserable season at 2-12-1 that has left them wishing for a myriad of help that might’ve changed the outlook for one of the league’s worst teams.

If chairman and CEO Cal McNair and general manager Nick Caserio could work with Santa this December, here’s an idea of what their list might look like.

Texans’ Cal McNair says changing uniforms ‘definitely on the table’

Houston Texans chairman and CEO Cal McNair indicated in a Reddit AMA that the team is already looking at changing the uniforms.

Houston Texans chairman and CEO Cal McNair indicated in a Reddit AMA (ask me anything) Sept. 7 that the club is exploring the notion of changing the team’s uniforms.

A user asked McNair: “Would you ever consider changing the uniform designs? Not the colors, per se, but just the design of the uniforms? It may be the thing I hear most often.”

McNair responded back: “It’s definitely on the table! In fact, we have already engaged the NFL to better understand the process to formally start a fan research study and the timeline and guidelines if the fan research steered towards change. No promises but we will challenge everything, and we won’t be afraid to evolve. Let me know what you hope to see!”

The Texans have had the same uniforms since their 2002 inception — sans the Color Rush jerseys which debuted in 2017.

Texans going with traditional home uniforms in preseason opener against the Saints

The Houston Texans are going with their traditional home uniforms in their preseason opener against the New Orleans Saints at NRG Stadium.

The Houston Texans will have a new element to their Battle Red jerseys with the new Battle Red helmets, which they broke out during training camp. The Texans are willing to make changes in 2022 to infuse excitement where able.

However, the Texans are going to go with traditional garb against the New Orleans Saints in their preseason opener Aug. 13 at NRG Stadium. The Texans will wear their deep steel blue helmets, jerseys, white pants, and deep steel blue socks.

The theme for the Saints game is “The State of Football” as the Texans celebrate football at all levels in Texas. Halftime will feature a matchup between two teams from Legacy The School of Sport Sciences girls flag football teams with former Texans Travis Johnson and Fred Weary leading the teams.

Kickoff is at 7:00 p.m. Central Time.
