Texans encourage fans to wear red for Battle Red Day against the Colts

The Houston Texans are asking their fans to wear red for Battle Red Day against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 13.

The Houston Texans are encouraging fans to show up in red at NRG Stadium for Battle Red Day against the Indianapolis Colts.

Houston takes on their AFC South rivals Sunday at 12:00 p.m. Central Time in a rematch of a Week 6 beating at the hands Indianapolis, 31-3.

The first 10,000 fans who arrive at the stadium will get a Battle Red Day t-shirt. Starting at 9:30 a.m., fans can visit the BULLevard to partake in two attractions exclusive to Battle Red Day: the Jameson Ultimate Tailgate located directly south of the Astrodome (ages 21 and up), and the Coca-Cola Holiday Caravan, where fans can take a photo with Santa Claus. Fans will be welcomed at gates by Percussion One.

Delphi Borich, the star of Theater Under the Stars’ production of “The Little Mermaid,” will sing the national anthem. The Battle Red Ladies joined by Brazoswood Air Force JROTC will be the U.S. flag holders. Presenting the colors will be the United States Marine Corps.

Astros pitcher Lance McCullers will be the Homefield Advantage Captain. Mattress Firm chief retail officer Jody Putnam will serve as the virtual coin toss captain.

The Ocean of Soul Marching Band from Texas Southern University will perform on-field at halftime.

Sunday will also be “My Cause, My Cleats” across the NFL, where players are given the opportunity to choose a cause that is important to them and represent it on game day. Over 30 Texans will participate in this year’s campaign, including quarterback Tyrod Taylor, who visited the Boys & Girls Club — Stafford Club earlier this week. Taylor’s cleats will represent the Tyrod Taylor Foundation, which helps support youth programs including the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston.

3 ways Texans can take advantage of new throwback helmet rules

The NFL will allow for throwback helmets once again in 2022. Here are three directions the Texans could go with the new rules.

Good news: the NFL will allow for teams to have alternate helmets once again starting in 2022. That means teams are going to bust out the throwback helmets to go along with their throwback uniforms once again.

Bad news: the Houston Texans have been wearing the same getup since 2002 that they essentially are wearing their throwbacks. Consider even the Jacksonville Jaguars have undergone about three uniform alterations in the same span.

If the Texans ultimately decide to take advantage of the new changes providing for alternate helmets, here are three options to consider.

Texans’ fifth-round tight end Brevin Jordan wants to wear No. 9

Former Miami Hurricanes tight end Brevin Jordan wants to continue wearing his college number of No. 9 in the NFL with the Houston Texans.

New Houston Texans tight end Brevin Jordan wants to be among the first NFL players to take advantage of the league’s relaxed policies towards jersey numbers.

On Twitter, the Texans’ Round 5 pick (No. 147 overall) posted a photoshopped image of himself wearing the Texans’ white road uniforms at NRG Stadium. The photoshopped image showed Jordan wearing the No. 9.

The NFL expanded the jersey numbers for skill position players on offense and defense. Instead of being pigeon-holed into picking between numbers 40-49 and then 80-89, tight ends now have the ability to choose numbers 1-49, which makes Jordan’s old jersey numbers with Miami eligible for the NFL.

Albeit coincidental, Jordan wearing a jersey with the colors of the United States men’s basketball Olympic team along with the number nine evokes imagery familiar with sports fans.

Currently, there are no players on the Texans’ roster who have the number nine. The last to do so was punter Bryan Anger, who played 30 games for the Texans from 2019-20.

Texans S Justin Reid to stay with No. 20, not wear old Stanford jersey number

The NFL expanded the numbers on uniforms. However, don’t expect Houston Texans safety Justin Reid to change his anytime soon.

The NFL approved a measure to expand the jersey numbers for skill positions.

Running backs, receivers, and tight ends get to pick from the expanded jersey field of one through 49 and also 88 through 89.

Linebackers get to pick one through 59 along with 90 through 99.

Defensive backs have also had their jersey numbers expanded from one through 49.

There is some speculation that some Houston Texans players will change their jersey numbers. However, don’t include safety Justin Reid in that number. The fourth-year safety from Stanford replied to a tweet on Wednesday when a fan asked if he would bring back his old college number.

“Nahh,” Reid replied. “20 all the way.”

The former Stanford Cardinal sported the number eight throughout his collegiate playing days. After the Texans drafted Reid with the No. 68 overall pick in Round 3 of the 2018 NFL draft, their first selection of the draft, he chose the number 38 throughout the offseason program and training camp. At the end of preseason, he switched to number 20, and it has become his identity as a pro since.
