Ohio State football player signs autograph for tattoo artist

Ohio State football player signs autograph for tattoo artist #GoBucks

At any other school, a player signing memorabilia for a tattoo artist wouldn’t be news. At Ohio State memorabilia and tattoo artists bring up horrific memories of Tattoogate and the 2010 season that was lost.

If you don’t remember, the 2010 season was vacated due to five Buckeyes selling their gold pants (back in the day when Ohio State players had them in bulk) and other memorabilia in exchange for tattoos. Mike Adams, Boom Herron, DeVier Posey, Terrelle Pryor and Solomon Thomas were the players suspended for a portion of the 2011 season, but this controversy would also lead to the exit of Jim Tressel.

Today freshman phenom, Jeremiah Smith is able to pose proudly with a tattoo artist and the jersey he signed. It should be mentioned that the artist had already purchased the jersey prior to the meeting.

Highest rated Ohio State football players in college football video game history

A teaser trailer dropped for the new upcoming EA Sports College Football video game and despite seeing very little gameplay and details, the anticipation is at an all-time high. At this point, gamers who have waited a decade just want the playoffs and transfer portal added and would be happy with the graphics from the past generation of consoles.

According to the trailer, we can expect a full reveal this May and the game to hit shelves this summer, but if you are like me, you are too much of a pessimist to believe it. Nonetheless, it is fun to take this opportunity to look back on some of the highest-rated Ohio State football players in this game’s history. The craziest part of this list is that a now current coach on the staff is tied as the highest Buckeye ever rated.

The last game came out in 2013 and it is a real shame we missed out on studs like Nick Bosa, Chase Young and of course C.J. Stroud, but it will be interesting to see who some of the top guys are this year.

Five of Ohio State football’s most memorable games vs. Northwestern

Five of Ohio State football’s most memorable games vs. Northwestern #GoBucks

The Ohio State Buckeyes will face the Northwestern Wildcats for the 80th time in program history on Saturday at noon ET. Ohio State is 64-14-1 against their fellow Big Ten member.

The largest margin of victory for the Buckeyes was in 1981 when Ohio State dominated Northwestern, 70-6 under Earle Bruce. The largest margin of victory in favor of the Wildcats took place in 1958 when Northwestern won 21-0 under Ara Parseghian.

The first meeting between the two programs was in 1913 and was a Buckeye blowout win, 58-0 under John Wilce. The longest win streak Ohio State has held over the Wildcats was 24 victories from 1972 to 2003.

But what are some of the most memorable meetings between the two? Here are five of them as we take you down memory lane.

Kevin Stefanski emphasizing substitutions in practice ahead of matchup vs. Steelers

After getting embarrassed against the #Jets, #Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski thinks he has the secret sauce to beat the #Steelers

In the midst of controversy over the Cleveland Browns’ legendary collapse in Week 2, head coach Kevin Stefanski is focusing on a very specific facet of his defense for the team’s next matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers. It would seem that the coach thinks that confusion on defensive substitutions played a role in the meltdown against the New York Jets, and he told reporters on Monday that they will be a key point of emphasis in practice this week.

“What we have done is you practice substitutions in practice,” Stefanski explained. “There are ways to not let the defense or offense know which group is going in next so you make them lock in on those type of things. We practiced in the crowd noise defensively knowing that we are going to have to be using signals. You do practice those type of things, and that is really your operation.

“Those are the type of things that you got to continue to be really, really sharp because it does present challenges to the defense when you are at home. Our crowd was great yesterday. That is what we expect so you have to be able to communicate in the crowd noise, just like when the offense goes on the road to be able to communicate.”

Whether substitutions, or miscommunications as a result of substitutions, were to blame for the utter failure of the defense on Sunday is unclear, but if Stefanski thinks they could deliver the Browns a win on a short week, then so be it. Based on their performance against the lowly Jets, the Steelers squad Cleveland will face in Week 3 could prove to be more than the team can handle.

The Browns will need to make every effort to stay in the same league as Pittsburgh strategically, and figure out how to not beat themselves if they intend to pull out a win on Thursday night.

Highest rated Ohio State football players in “NCAA Football” video game history

Highest rated Ohio State Buckeyes in NCAA video game history #GoBucks #NCAAFootball

The NCAA video game series has been a pillar in many households since 1998 and for some even before that during the days of “Bill Walsh College Football.” It was downright devastating when EA Sport stopped producing the game after “NCAA ’14.”

The game — or a version thereof — is scheduled to return in time for the 2023 season and I just simply can’t wait. It got me wondering who the ten highest-rated Ohio State football players were in the video game’s history. It is important to remember that no names were used for the rosters, but we can make some safe assumptions that QB No. 2 would have been Terrelle Pryor. It’s part of the reason EA Sports had to stop making the game.

Another item of note is that it is extremely hard to find any rosters before the 2004 version, but I feel I exhausted my options and found the best results. I also want to note that the first “Bill Walsh College Football” game didn’t even have Ohio State and instead had an odd copycat team named Columbus. There were no individual player ratings and therefore that game was not used. Oh, and don’t forget, NCAA games were labeled a year in advance so the 2005 version of the game is actually for the 2004 season. Got it? No, maybe — sort of?

Let’s move forward anyway with the top ten rated Ohio State football players in the history of the “NCAA Football” video game franchise.

NFL supplemental draft: Taking a look at all picks since 1999

The NFL won’t be holding a supplemental draft in 2021. Nonetheless, here is a look back at such picks since 1999.

The NFL announced Tuesday they will not be holding a supplemental draft for the second straight year.

Players in the supplemental draft are generally players, who for one reason or another, failed to enter that year’s draft.

How teams pick players in the supplemental is by submitting a bid to the commissioner — in essence, where that team would pick that player. Highest bidder gets the player, but then has to forfeit that pick in the upcoming draft. For instance, if the Houston Texans used a second-rounder in the 2021 supplemental, they would forfeit their second-round pick in the 2022 NFL draft. More about the rules of the supplemental draft can be found here.

Fab Four: Selecting Ohio State football’s Mount Rushmore of all-time recruits

On the eve of early signing day, Buckeyes Wire recalls the most hyped commits in school history.

The backbone of any college football program is recruiting. If you want to compete for bowl games, conference titles and national championships, you have to convince the right players to come to your school and then develop them in your system and culture.

But it all starts with talent.

For Ohio State football, recruiting is a way of life. The Buckeye program is consistently in the top five programs when it comes to signing the best high school prospects in the country.

Because of it, OSU is one of the blue blood programs of the sport and seems to always be in the Big Ten and national title picture.

We decided to take a look through all the recruits that have come through Ohio State in recent memory and pick out the four best we consider the Mount Rushmore of Buckeye recruits. It doesn’t necessarily mean the highest-rated or who turned out to be the best player in college, but those that had a lot of buzz and were expected to turn into something special.

Also, even though the Buckeyes have been pulling in some of their best-ever recruits over the last few years, we’re not taking into account players that have yet to officially sign because that status can always change.

So, here we go, the Mount Rushmore of Ohio State football recruiting prospects. We’ll start with four honorable mention prospects and then get into the fab four.

More Mount Rushmore’s from the College Wire Network:

Bama / Aub / Fla / LSU / Tenn. / UGA // Mich. / Mich St. / Ohio St. / Wisc. // Okla. / Texas // ND // USC

NEXT … Honorable mentions

What are the longest runs by a QB in the last 25 years?

Daniel Jones will be remembered for what happened at the end of his 80-yard run, not for it.

Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

The Giants’ Daniel Jones went for an 80-yard jaunt Thursday to add his name to the list of quarterbacks with epic runs. Who are some of the other signal-callers to take off on long-distance journeys?

Should the Vikings be interested in Terrelle Pryor?

Pryor finished with more than 1,000 receiving yards with the Browns in 2016.

Wide receiver Terrelle Pryor is attempting a comeback to the NFL.

Pryor, 31, last appeared in a regular season game in 2018. Pryor says that he’s had conversations with “five or so” teams about a possible comeback.

Could one of them be the Minnesota Vikings?

The Vikings have Adam Thielen and first-round pick Justin Jefferson, but after that, there’s not a lot of depth. That’s where Pryor, who had 1,007 yards with the Browns in 2016, could make sense to take a flier on.

With that being said, this move would be very unlike the Vikings. Plus, there’s a reason why Pryor isn’t on a team. After his 1,000-yard season with the Browns, Pryor has just 492 yards in 17 games with Washington, Buffalo and New York.

Pryor was a supplemental pick out of Ohio State by the Raiders back in 2011. He was originally drafted to be a quarterback before being converted.

Per Spotrac, Pryor has made just over $14 million during his career as a player.
