Ranking Titans’ top 6 pending free agents based on importance

We rank the Titans’ top six pending free agents based on importance.

The Tennessee Titans are set to wade the waters of NFL free agency this offseason, but first they have to make some decisions about their own players.

Tennessee has a grand total of 34 pending free agents (not counting the guys the team cut recently) they have to make decisions on, but some are no doubt more important than others.

Before we get to the list ranking the six most-important pending free agents, here’s a look back at some of our other content pertaining to the Titans’ free agents:

Predicting the fates of Titans’ pending free agents: Defense

A look at the Titans’ pending free agents on defense, with predictions for what will happen with each.

Tennessee Titans general manager Ran Carthon will have his work cut out for him in his first offseason with the team. Not only do the Titans need to make major improvements in several areas, they also have to make decisions on their own pending free agents.

Tennessee’s list of pending free agents includes 34 players, with about half of them (18) coming from the defensive side of the ball. No doubt the biggest name of the group is linebacker David Long.

Long has developed into a very good player over four seasons, which flies in the face of what typical sixth-round picks become. However, Long does come with some concerns, and namely his injury history.

So, will the Titans bring Long back? Well, that depends.

We’ll talk about that, as well as make predictions for the fates of Long and the rest of the Titans’ pending free agents on defense. We’ll cover the offensive side of the ball next week.

Potential free agents DC Jim Schwartz could bring over from Titans

Who could the new DC target to help fix the defense?

The Cleveland Browns took the first step in revitalizing their defense on Tuesday when they hired Jim Schwartz as their new coordinator. Schwartz brings with him an impressive track record as a defensive coach as well as some experience as a head coach. The next step will be to improve the roster and Schwartz may have his eye on some free agents from the Tennesee Titans where he was an assistant last season.

Though there aren’t a ton of big or flashy names he could bring with him quality depth is also needed on this roster. Targeting players familiar with his style can also help with teaching new players the ins and outs of the system.

Projected market values for Titans’ most notable pending free agents

The projected market values for some of the Titans’ most notable free agents.

The Tennessee Titans have a grand total of 34 pending free agents they have to make decisions on this offseason, but not all of them are created equal in terms of priority.

The Titans’ most notable free agents include tight end Austin Hooper, right guard Nate Davis, linebacker David Long, defensive linemen Teair Tart and DeMarcus Walker.

I guess we can also throw left guard Aaron Brewer on the list since he was a starter in 2022.

So, exactly how much will it take to keep each? We can’t say for sure, but Spotrac has posted market values for the majority of the aforementioned players on that list. Let’s see where they fall.

Titans’ best and worst PFF grades, stats from Week 17

The best and the worst of the Titans from Week 17, via Pro Football Focus grades and stats.

To get a more in-depth idea of how the Tennessee Titans played in Week 17, it’s time to take a look at the Pro Football Focus grades and stats they compiled against the Dallas Cowboys.

We start with the highest overall grade. on the team. Taking the top spot on either side of the ball is unsurprisingly safety Kevin Byard (86.0), who came up with a pair of interceptions in the losing effort.

On the offensive side of the ball, the highest grade was earned by running back Jonathan Ward (79.5), but he didn’t meet our 10-snap minimum.

Behind him was wide receiver Racey McMath, whose 78.0 was the highest of any offensive player who saw at least 10 snaps. The LSU product had one catch for 39 yards.

With the highest overall grades out of the way, we now move to Titans grades in other facets, as well as taking a look at how the offensive line, pass-rush and secondary performed.

Titans’ Teair Tart takes a spill trying to celebrate fumble vs. Cowboys

Tennessee Titans DL Teair Tart took a tumble while trying to celebrate his fumble recovery.

The Tennessee Titans got some much-needed help from their defense in the second quarter of their Week 17 game against the Dallas Cowboys, courtesy of defensive lineman Teair Tart.

With the Titans down 10-0 and the Cowboys at midfield, Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott had a messy exchange with his center, leading to the ball hitting the ground.

Tart made a heads-up play and hopped on the ball to give the Titans it back near midfield.

However, while running down the field to celebrate the turnover in the end zone, the big man tried to get too cute and put the ball between his legs on the way there, which caused him to take a spill.

Unfortunately for the Titans, their offense wasn’t able to do anything with the turnover, as quarterback Josh Dobbs and Co. posted a three-and-out on the next series.

For the Titans’ defense, that is its first fumble recovered since October.

Why Titans’ Teair Tart was a surprise inactive in Week 15

Teair Tart was a surprise inactive in Week 15, but now we know why.

When the Tennessee Titans released their list of inactives an hour and a half before kickoff of the Week 15 game against the Los Angeles Chargers, defensive lineman Teair Tart was a surprise scratch.

Tart, who has played very well this season and has been a big part of the Titans’ impressive front, did not have a designation going into the game, which made his inactive status shocking to say the least.

However, now we have clarity as to what happened. Per the CBS broadcast during Titans-Chargers, Tart found flew back from Los Angles to Nashville for the birth of his child.

A 2020 undrafted free agent signing of the Titans, Tart has developed into a good starter over three seasons. He has 21 tackles, one interception and five passes defensed in 13 games this season.

He was also one of what seems like few Titans to play in every game, but his run is now over.
