Xavier at TCU odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Xavier at TCU odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The Xavier Musketeers (7-1) and the TCU Horned Frogs (4-3) meet Thursday at Schollmaier Arena in Fort Worth, Texas. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s college basketball odds around the Xavier vs. TCU odds, and make our expert college basketball picks and predictions.

Xavier topped South Carolina State 71-68 last time out Sunday, nearly suffering a gigantic upset as a 26-point favorite. It did bounce back with a win, though, after the ugly 78-53 loss to Michigan at the Fort Myers Tip-off around Thanksgiving. The Musketeers are just 1-3 against the spread (ATS) in the past 4 games, while cashing low in 6 in a row, and 7 of 8 this season.

The Horned Frogs were on the short end of a couple of neutral floor losses at Acrisure Arena in California. It is looking to bounce back after a 69-52 loss to Santa Clara, and a narrow 76-72 OT loss to Colorado State. TCU is 0-6 ATSA in the past 6 outings since coming in the opener against FAMU back Nov. 4 The Under is 3-1 in the past 4 outings, too.

Xavier at TCU picks and predictions

Prediction

TCU 75, Xavier 71

Moneyline

TCU (-110) is worth playing as a short ‘dog at home. The Horned Frogs dropped a couple of games in the high desert last time out in a tournament, but playing at home should snap TCU back into form.

Plus, Xavier (-110) looked awful against Michigan, and even worse against South Carolina State of the MEAC. If the Musketeers play at that level here, they’ll get their doors blown off.

Against the spread

It makes very little backing TCU +1.5 (-120) with the small amount of points, unless you’re absolutely convinced Xavier -1.5 (+100) is going to win, but only by a single point.

AVOID.

Over/Under

UNDER 146.5 (-110) is the lean, but go with a half-unit play at most.

Xavier is driving this Under train, cashing low in 6 consecutive outings. It has allowed 68 or fewer points in 5 of those 6 contests, while going for 75 or fewer points in 4 of the previous 5 outings.

TCU is a slow, methodical offense, good for just 72.6 PPG, while shooting a dismal 43.2% from the field, and 32.1% from behind the 3-point line. It also leaves a lot of points on the floor thanks to a 59.1% mark at the free-throw line, one of the worst in the country. Under bettors love that.

TCU at Baylor odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s TCU at Baylor odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The TCU Horned Frogs (5-3, 3-2 Big 12) take on the Baylor Bears (4-4, 2-3) at McLane Stadium Saturday. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. ET (ESPN2). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s college football odds around the TCU vs. Baylor odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

TCU edged Texas Tech last week 35-34, failing to cover as 4.5-point favorites. They were down 34-21 midway through the fourth quarter, but they scored the final 14 points to seal the deal. QB Josh Hoover had 344 passing yards, 3 TDs and 2 INTs. They have won 2 straight.

Baylor also won its second in a row with a 38-28 victory over Oklahoma State. The Bears covered as 7-point favorites. RB Dawson Pendergrass flashed on the ground, rushing 6 times for 142 yards and a TD. QB Sawyer Robertson was 11-for-19 for 222 yards, 3 TDs and 1 INT.

TCU at Baylor picks and predictions

Prediction

TCU 30, Baylor 27

Moneyline

TCU has taken 4 straight matchups and 8 of 9. Last year’s contest was a 42-17 thrashing at TCU. Hoover threw for 412 yards and 2 TDs while rushing for another.

The Frogs are 3-1 on the road, and the Bears are 3-1 at home. TCU has signature wins over Utah as 3.5-point dogs and Kansas as 1-point dogs.

The Frogs have won 3 of 4, and Baylor really doesn’t have much of a resume. They also have better continuity with Hoover under center, and he ransacked the Bears last season. Due to such, I’ll take the value with TEXAS CHRISTIAN +130.

Against the spread

Since we’re taking the value on the ML, I’ll forego the spread here.

PASS.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

Both of these teams are 5-3 O/U. Baylor’s last 3 at home have hit the Over. Meanwhile, the Over is 4-2 in TCU’s last 6 games. We haven’t had a total this large in this matchup since it went Over 65 in 2016. The Over is 0-1-2 in the last 4 meetings, and I feel it’s a little too lofty Saturday.

Take the UNDER 63.5 (-110).

Houston at TCU odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Houston at TCU odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The Houston Cougars (1-4, 0-2 Big 12) take on the TCU Horned Frogs (3-2, 1-1) at Amon G. Carter Stadium Friday. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET (ESPN). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s college football odds around the Houston vs. TCU odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

The Cougars have been put out to pasture, coming off of 2 consecutive shutout losses. Iowa State ran amuck on them last week with a 20-0 final as Houston failed to cover as a 16-point dog. RB Stacy Sneed rushed 10 times for 79 yards, but it picked up just 11 first downs in the affair.

The Horned Frogs are coming off a 38-27 upset over the Kansas Jayhawks. QB Josh Hoover was 28-for-37 for 356 yards, 3 TDs and 2 INTs. He connected with WR Jack Bech 10 times for 131 yards and 2 scores. Hoover is averaging 384.7 passing yards per game over the last 3 games. TCU has scored at least 34 points in all 5 games this season.

Houston at TCU picks and predictions

Prediction

TCU 35, Houston 10

Moneyline

The Brooklyn Jabronis have about the same chance at beating the Harlem Globetrotters as Houston does beating TCU here. The Cougars have scored 7 or fewer points in 3 of 5 games and have been shellacked 54-0 in their last 2 games.

There’s no way we’re risking -800, though. Instead, let’s go with TCU -6.5 (-115) FIRST QUARTER SPREAD. The Frogs have put it in the end zone in the first quarter in 4 of 5 games this season, and the Cougars aren’t exactly clicking.

Against the spread

I do not like either side of this equation. In fact, I feel like it’s a trap. Houston hasn’t scored in 2 straight games. Well, TCU has given up 27, 66 and 35 points in its last 3 games. TCU is also 1-4 ATS. That doesn’t exactly exude confidence in picking it to cover here.

So head to the SGP tab and take TCU ML + JOSH HOOVER OVER 294.5 PASSING YARDS (-125) in what seems like a lock based upon recent performances.

Over/Under

Houston is 0-5 O/U on the season, and TCU is 4-1. There is a chance TCU goes up 28-0 and takes a nap in the 2nd half, but there is also the chance that Houston awakens from said 2-game nap. These teams matched up last year and cashed an Under 64 with a 36-13 TCU victory. That narrowly cashes here.

LEAN UNDER 51.5 (-110).

Alex’s best bet: SMU at TCU prediction

SportsbookWire.com’s Alex White likes a side in Saturday’s football game between the SMU Mustangs and TCU Horned Frogs.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

SportsbookWire.com’s Alex White is “sticking with the same system” that has her off to a 2-0 start with her best college football pick of the week.

She tabbed Toledo last week — an outright winner at Mississippi State — and cashed with Michigan State 2 weeks ago when Sparty upset the Maryland Terps in College Park.

This Saturday, Alex likes a side in an ACC-Big 12 matchup featuring the SMU Mustangs (2-1) and the host TCU Horned Frogs (2-1). Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. ET (The CW Network) from Gerald J. Ford Stadium in Dallas.

The Horned Frogs are favored by 2.5 points, per BetMGM Sportsbook as of Friday, 3:39 p.m. ET.

Listen below to why Alex likes this one.

TCU at Stanford odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s TCU at Stanford odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The TCU Horned Frogs and Stanford Cardinal open their 2024 NCAA football seasons at Stanford Stadium in Palo Alto, Calif., Friday. Kickoff is scheduled for 10:30 p.m. ET (ESPN). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the TCU vs. Stanford odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

The Horned Frogs managed just 5 victories last season, missing out on a bowl game after making the College Football Playoff in 2022-23. Speaking of bowls, that’s the last time these schools met each other on the gridiron. On Dec. 28, 2017, TCU edged Stanford 39-37 in the Valero Alamo Bowl. The Frogs lead the all-time series 3-0, but 2 of those victories are by 2 points each.

TCU QB Josh Hoover made strides down the start last season, and he figures to take a big step forward. The Horned Frogs pass attack figures to be much better with WRs Eric McAlister, JP Richardson and Savion Williams at his disposal.

The Cardinal picked up 3 wins last season, and each of those victories came on the road at Hawaii, Colorado and Washington State. Stanford was 0-7 on “The Farm”, though. The Cardinal allowed 42 or more points in 7 games in 2023, too.

Stanford QB Ashton Daniels is back, but we could see a 2-QB setup with true freshman QB Elijah Brown also in the mix for coach Troy Taylor. Whoever is throwing the ball will have WR Elic Ayomanor downfield.

TCU at Stanford picks and predictions

Prediction

TCU 31, Stanford 23

Moneyline

TCU (-350) will cost you 3½ times your potential return, and that’s way too expensive for a standalone bet. There is never a reason to bet such a heavy favorite, but especially so for a team on the road in an opener. We just don’t have enough information at this juncture.

AVOID.

Against the spread

Play STANFORD +9.5 (-110) at home, but be careful. As mentioned, the Cardinal were 0-7 SU last season at home while covering just 2 times.

TCU -9.5 (-110) should be able to get the job done straight up, but the Cardinal are at home, and they have enough offensive weapons, including the 1,000-yard receiver Ayomanor, to stick around and keep this within 1 score.

Over/Under

The UNDER 59.5 (-110) is worth a look in the opener.

Last season, Stanford went low in 5 of its 7 games at home. And, on the road, TCU ended up cashing low 3 times in 5 contests.

Go low, but be careful and play a half-unit wager at the highest.

March Madness: TCU vs. Utah State odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s TCU vs. Utah State odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The TCU Horned Frogs (21-12) and Utah State Aggies (27-6) battle in a 1st-round Midwest Region game Friday in Indianapolis. Tip-off at Gainbridge Fieldhouse is slated for a 9:55 p.m. ET (CBS). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the TCU vs. Utah State odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and best bets.

Ninth-seeded Texas Christian has been off since March 14 when the Horned Frogs fell 60-45 to current-No. 2 Houston in the Big 12 Tournament as an 11 1/2-point underdog. TCU has won just twice since Feb. 26 and scored just 15 points in the 1st half of the loss to Houston.

No. 8 seed Utah State, ranked No. 19 in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll, won the regular-season title in the Mountain West Conference. The Aggies lost to San Diego State 86-70 as a 5-point underdog in the MWC Tournament last Friday. USU is just 1-4-1 against the spread (ATS) since Feb. 27.

TCU vs. Utah State picks and predictions

Prediction

TCU 76, Utah State 73

Moneyline

The lean with the points is on the underdog Aggies. Utah State is 1-19 straight up in its last 20 NCAA Tournament games, so let’s focus on USU plus the points. PASS.

Against the spread

The Aggies get a lot of near-proximity looks and are averaging 79.8 points per game. TCU is just 4-8 ATS against foes averaging 77-plus PPG.

Over the last 3 years, Utah State has gone 15-7 in neutral-site games.

The Frogs have been a strong team most of the year on the offensive glass,  but have faltered in that facet of the game of late. BartTorvik pegs USU’s defensive rebounding rate as a solid 39th in the nation. TCU also likes to leverage turnovers, and the Aggies typically have solid handles on the ball.

Expect the Aggies to force the issue inside and get to the foul line with good frequency. This line has drifted toward TCU and is ripe for some buy-back.

FanDuel Sportsbook is offering a better cushion for USU bettors. TAKE UTAH STATE +4.5 (-120).

Stream select live college basketball games and full replays: Get ESPN+

Over/Under

These teams play fast, but the total is up there reflecting perhaps a bit too much regular-season ball.

The matchup takes the edge off a couple point-spiral factors. Both teams are loaded with veteran experience, and shading this one in the 140s is the recommendation.

Consider a partial-unit play on the UNDER 150.5 (-105).

West Virginia at TCU odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s West Virginia at TCU odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The West Virginia Mountaineers (3-1, 1-0 Big 12) and the TCU Horned Frogs (3-1, 1-0) meet Saturday at Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET (ESPN2). Below, we analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the West Virginia vs. TCU odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

The Mountaineers look to push their conference record to 2-0 after earning a 20-13 win over Texas Tech last weekend at Milan Puskar Stadium, cashing as a 6.5-point underdogs. West Virginia has cashed 3 in a row since dropping the opener 38-15 at Penn State.

The defense has been much better for the Mountaineers lately, too, allowing a total of just 36 points in 3 wins over Duquesne, Pitt and TTU, hitting the Under in each of the 2 games against FBS foes during that span.

TCU welcomed Houston to the Big 12 with a 36-13 win on the road, covering a 7-point number, and it doubled up SMU last weekend at home by a 34-17 score to comfortably cash a 6.5-point number. After a narrow 45-42 loss to Colorado in Week 1, which suddenly doesn’t look so bad, TCU has won 3 in a row, covering the past 2 against FBS opponents.

Like West Virginia, defense has been a big part of the turnaround for TCU. The Horned Frogs were gouged for 45 in the opener vs. Colorado, but it has allowed just 36 total points in the past 3 games, cashing the Under in each contest.

West Virginia at TCU picks and predictions

Prediction

TCU 25, West Virginia 16

Moneyline

TCU (-630) will cost you more than 6 times your potential return, and that’s just a ridiculous amount of risk for not nearly enough reward. Even including TCU in a multi-team parlay isn’t a great idea, as it would suck all of the value out of your ticket.

PASS.

Against the spread

WEST VIRGINIA +13.5 (-104) is a solid play here, as the offense has been able to do just enough, and the defense has been nasty. TCU -13.5 (-128) isn’t likely to roll up very big totals, while also holding down the opposition with its tremendous defense.

This will be a good old-fashioned slugfest, with the Mountaineers keeping it within a pair of TDs.

Over/Under

UNDER 51.5 (-110) is the best play on the board, and really, it isn’t even close.

The Mountaineers have managed to average just 17.3 points per game (PPG) on offense in 3 games against FBS opponents, with the outlier being a 56-point explosion against Duquesne of the FCS. On defense, the Mountaineers have yielded just 19 total points in a pair of wins over Texas Tech and Pitt the past 2 weekends.

For TCU, after getting pounded by Colorado for 45 points in the opener, the Horned Frogs have coughed up just 36 total points in the past 3 games, cashing the Under in each contest. It’s offense is a bit more explosive than West Virginia, but it will also have difficulty solving the yellow crush defense.

TCU at Houston odds, picks and predictions

The TCU Horned Frogs (1-1) square off against the Houston Cougars (1-1) on Saturday at TDECU Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET (FOX). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the TCU vs. Houston odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

TCU defeated Nicholls State 41-6 in Week 2, failing to cover as 42-point home favorites. The Under of 59 points also cashed in the contest. TCU lost 45-42 to Colorado in their season opener.

Houston lost in a shootout against Rice 43-41 in Week 2 despite entering as 7-point road favorites. The Over of 51.5 easily hit with both teams nearly hitting the Over themselves. It was QB Donovan Smith who tried to lead an impressive comeback for the Cougars after going down 28-0 to Rice.

TCU at Houston picks and predictions

Prediction

TCU 38, Houston 24

Moneyline

The Horned Frogs are favored against a Big 12 newcomer in the Cougars, but I’ll PASS on the moneyline. Taking a team at -300 odds isn’t worth the risk given the return you’ll receive if TCU wins.

Against the spread

BET TCU -7.5 (-110).

Even though the Horned Frogs lost to Colorado in Week 1, they bounced back with a lopsided win against an inferior opponent in Week 2. Meanwhile, Houston narrowly escaped with a win over UTSA in its season opener and lost to Rice last week.

While the Horned Frogs are 0-2 ATS to begin the season, this is the best team the Cougars have faced thus far by a wide margin.

Over/Under

UNDER 64.5 (-115) is the play as neither team has been consistent to begin the season. TCU’s offense has been solid in the 1st 2 weeks, but Houston managed to score only 17 points in Week 1 before exploding for 41 points against Rice in Week 2.

Colorado at TCU odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Colorado at TCU odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Colorado Buffaloes and TCU Horned Frogs open their regular seasons at Amon G. Carter Stadium Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for noon ET (FOX). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Colorado vs. TCU odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

Colorado has been making national headlines since bringing in coach Deion Sanders in December 2022. Sanders comes in to revitalize a Buffaloes team that went just 1-11 straight up and 2-10 against the spread (ATS) in 2022. While bringing in Coach Prime has certainly helped recruiting, Colorado’s regular season wins total sits at Over 3.5 (+105) / Under 3.5 (-125).

TCU is coming off a 65-7 loss as a 13.5-point underdog vs. the Georgia Bulldogs in the National Championship Game on Jan. 9. Sophomore QB Chandler Morris has earned the starting job for the Horned Frogs this season and was originally the starter in 2022 before getting hurt in the opener at Colorado. TCU’s regular season wins total sits at Over 7.5 (-135) / Under 7.5 (+110), despite coming off a 12-0 regular season (9-2-1 ATS).

TCU is No. 16 in the USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll.

Colorado at TCU picks and predictions

Prediction

TCU 41, Colorado 10

Moneyline

TCU (-1000) is actually one of the better lines you will find on the Horned Frogs in the market. However, most people are not comfortable laying $1,000 to win $100.

PASS. Lay the points and/or bet the total instead.

Against the spread

The last time we saw TCU, it was getting blown out by Georgia in the National Championship Game. Meanwhile, Colorado has been receiving a ton of positive press for hiring Coach Prime and going all-in on recruiting.

It will take Sanders time to turn around this program, and I believe TCU is being slightly undervalued vs. this Buffaloes team that went just 1-11 straight up last season.

BET TCU -20.5 (-110).

Over/Under

The total in this game has jumped all over the place since the opener. We saw early money coming in on the Under, dropping it to as low as 59 at some books, while the Over money in recent weeks has pushed it back up above its original number of 62. While TCU is definitely capable of putting up a lot of points, I don’t trust Colorado to contribute in any significant way.

BET UNDER 63.5 (-110).

March Madness: TCU vs. Gonzaga odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s TCU vs. Gonzaga odds and lines, with expert college basketball picks, predictions and best bets.

The 6th-seeded TCU Horned Frogs (22-12) and No. 3 Gonzaga Bulldogs (29-5) meet Sunday in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The West Region contest at Ball Arena in Denver is slated to tip off at 9:40 p.m. ET (TBS). Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the TCU vs. Gonzaga odds as we make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and best bets.

TCU defeated Arizona State 72-70 Friday. The Frogs are looking to win back-to-back games for just the 2nd time since Jan. 24. They shot 35.5% from the floor Friday and have shot just 37.3% over their last 4 games — well below their season average of 45.37% (127th).

Gonzaga is No. 9 in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll. The Bulldogs shot and rebounded their way to an 82-70 win over Grand Canyon Friday, hitting 53.6% from the field and going plus-16 in rebound margin (38-22). The Bulldogs enter on a 10-game win streak.

Against the spread

TCU’s defense, particularly on the perimeter, will be key against a Bulldogs five hitting 38.9% of its looks from beyond the arc (9th). The Frogs have held foes to a 30.8% mark (32nd). TCU gets a lot of looks in close on offense. Peg the Frogs as possibly keeping this game close down to the wire.

No lean. PASS.

Over/Under

The Under is 4-1 across TCU’s last 5 games and 4-1-1 in its last 6 neutral-site games. It’s also 3-0 in Gonzaga’s last 3 games and 4-1 in its last 5 neutral-site games.

Pace figures point to a high-scoring affair, but this total is a shade too aggressive. The Bulldogs are a great shooting team, but some regression in their numbers could well come due against a TCU defense that has been quite good since mid-season.

The lean is slim toward a partial-unit play on the UNDER 156.5 (-112).
