It’s time for this week’s edition of The Insider Report.

We hope everyone had a great weekend. It was certainly a great weekend for the Tigers as they earned a top-10 victory and got their 37th consecutive home win in what was an awesome atmosphere at Death Valley.

Grisham set to check out 2025 Ohio QB

The Clemson Insider has learned through a source that Tyler Grisham will be traveling to Ohio ahead of the team’s game against Boston College this Saturday. Clemson’s wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator will be on hand to watch Findlay (Ohio) 2025 quarterback Ryan Montgomery, who has emerged as a prime sophomore target for the Tigers.

Clemson is said to be doing a good job in its pursuit of Ryan, who is the younger brother of one of the nation’s top offensive linemen in Luke Montgomery, an Ohio State pledge. Clemson was a finalist in Luke’s recruitment but wasn’t able to beat the allure that a program like Ohio State has on an in-state prospect.

As for Ryan, he’s been in contact with Brandon Streeter and has had several calls with Clemson’s offensive coordinator.

It’s likely that Ryan, who already holds several Power Five offers from schools like Georgia, Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State and Tennessee, will be in attendance with his parents for Clemson’s matchup against Louisville at Memorial Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 12.

New class of 2023 developments

We have some information to pass along regarding two Peach State prospects that Clemson is pursuing in the class of 2023.

Over a week after reporting an offer from Clemson, Bogart (Ga.) North Oconee three-star defensive back Khalil Barnes took to Twitter to announce that he would be reopening his recruitment, and so walking back his pledge from the Demon Deacons.

Barnes has talked pretty candidly about his affinity for Dabo Swinney’s program and his relationship with Mickey Conn. Once Clemson’s co-defensive coordinator/safeties coach pulled the trigger on a scholarship offer, this seemed like a development that could arise, but Barnes was still committed to Wake Forest at the time.

“It was definitely crazy. I’m blessed,” he said when asked about his reaction to receiving an offer. “I was really happy where I was…I was just kind of in the moment. I was just proud and I knew how hard I had worked for it. It was cool to finally get that one. Coach Conn gave me something to think about, but I just want to focus on helping my team win a state championship.”

Conn brought up a conversation that he had with Barnes and his father back in June.

In that conversation, which Barnes detailed in an interview with TCI, Conn was honest and upfront about Clemson’s intentions. According to Barnes, Conn said that he would totally understand if they both hated him and Clemson, after having not pulled the trigger on an offer at the time.

”Just knowing that he remembered that conversation vividly and was able to be a man of his word and produce the offer, it shows what kind of man he is,” Barnes said of Conn.

Now, there remains a good chance that Barnes will have the opportunity to play for Conn at the next level.

The next target we wanted to touch on is Meadowcreek (Norcross, Ga.) three-star running back Jordan Louie. We can tell you that Clemson stopped by the West Virginia pledge’s school this past Friday.

He recently told TCI that the Tigers are starting to show a lot of interest in him.

Back in March, he informed TCI that he sent his film to both CJ Spiller and Tyler Grisham because he plays both running back and wide receiver. According to Louie, Grisham told him that his film was impressive.

Louie told us he’s looking to visit for a game and that Clemson will potentially give him an opportunity to be on the team.

We’ll keep an eye on this development as Clemson keeps its option available at the running back position.

OL target has ‘awesome’ visit to Clemson

Among the many top prospects in attendance for Clemson’s top-10 win over NC State on Saturday night was this priority offensive line target.

Tuscarora (Leesburg, Va.) four-star Fletcher Westphal took an unofficial visit to Death Valley for the Tigers’ 30-20 victory over the Wolfpack.

“It was awesome,” Westphal told TCI in a message. “I got there early and they toured me around the campus and I could see the fans already set up at 1:30 pm tailgating. The excitement was already building that early. It just kept building closer it got to game time.

“I got to meet the team at the top of the hill at the rock before they enter the field before the game. That was crazy. One of my friends saw me on TV in the crowd.”

Westphal also got to spend a good amount of time with both offensive line coach Thomas Austin and offensive player development coach Tyrone Crowder, which he said he didn’t expect.

Originally Westphal was supposed to visit for the Louisville game on Nov. 12 but elected to travel down to Clemson this past weekend instead.

“I was planning for a November visit, but I’m definitely glad I made this game!” he said.

Update on nation’s No. 1 LB after latest Clemson visit

Clemson again played host to the nation’s top-ranked linebacker in the 2024 class this past weekend.

Jefferson (Ga.) five-star Sammy Brown returned to Tiger Town to take in the NC State game. He made the trip with his mom and dad, both of whom he said enjoyed the visit “very much and really liked catching up with all the staff and coaches.”

Brown also attended Clemson’s home opener against Furman, where both of his parents went to college when different members of the Tigers’ staff were there. So there’s a lot of connections between Clemson staffers and Brown’s parents, including Joey Batson, Clemson’s longtime director of strength training who previously served as the first full-time director of strength training at Furman.

Brown told TCI he really enjoyed getting back to Clemson for a night game and being able to experience a game at Death Valley under the lights. “The fans (Saturday) night were unbelievable, more electric than any other time,” he said.

We asked Brown, who has visited campus numerous times, what most appeals to him about Clemson when he thinks about it as a potential college option. He said, “Definitely their culture.”

“They’ve got one of the best cultures in college football and are definitely doing the right thing,” he said.

Brown traveled to Tennessee for its game vs. Florida on Sept. 24 and visited Ohio State for its Sept. 3 season opener against Notre Dame. He told us he thinks his next trip will be to Georgia but he doesn’t have anything else planned besides that as of now.

Clemson visit puts cherry on top for top cornerback target

The cornerback prospect who collected Clemson’s first offer at his position when the Tigers began dispensing offers to 2024 recruits back in June was on hand at Death Valley for the NC State game.

Carrollwood Day (Tampa, Fla.) four-star Tavoy Feagin made the trip to Tiger Town over the weekend with his parents and little brother. He told TCI that he “really enjoyed the visit” and “how crazy the atmosphere was” stood out to him.

Feagin spent plenty of time with cornerbacks coach Mike Reed, as well as Dabo Swinney. According to Feagin, Clemson’s head coach told him that he truly feels like Feagin would be a perfect fit with the Tigers’ program.

Feagin’s father, Michael, was a defensive back at Alabama in the 1990s when Swinney was on the Crimson Tide’s coaching staff.

On Sunday, Feagin seemed to hint that Alabama shouldn’t necessarily be considered the sure bet to land his commitment just because of his dad’s ties to the Tide. Feagin tweeted, “My dad had his time, now it’s time for me to make my own decisions.”

We believe the Tigers are in a great spot with Feagin coming out of the weekend’s visit, which he told TCI “really just made Clemson even better,” adding that Clemson is “already a place I can call home and this visit really put a cherry on the top.”

Feagin told us he hopes to return to Clemson for the Miami game on Nov. 19.

He is ranked as high as the No. 73 overall prospect in the 2024 class by 247Sports.

5-star ATH very impressed by Death Valley

A five-star prospect, regarded as one of the best players in the 2024 class regardless of position, came away very impressed by the environment at Death Valley during Clemson’s 30-20 victory over NC State.

Buford (Ga.) High School athlete Khalil “KJ” Bolden (pictured above) gave Death Valley rave reviews in a comment to The Clemson Insider.

“The atmosphere was electric,” he said. “Words can’t explain how much energy was in this stadium. I’m talking before the kickoff and after the game. This has to be one of the best CFB environments to play in. Go Tigers.”

Bolden, who received an offer from Clemson back on June 1, is ranked by the 247Sports Composite as the nation’s No. 1 safety and No. 4 overall prospect in the country for the 2024 class.

Star-studded visitors headed to Death Valley for Clemson-N.C. State game

Clemson will again play host to some top prospects for Saturday’s 7:30 p.m. game against N.C. State at Death Valley.

Here are some of the bigger names The Clemson Insider has confirmed as planned visitors for the Clemson-N.C. State game:

A couple of headliners among the recruits expected to be in attendance are a handful of five-stars in the 2024 and 2025 class, respectively. Jefferson (Ga.) linebacker Sammy Brown, Buford (Ga.) athlete KJ Bolden, Buford (Ga.) linebacker Jadon Perlotte and Charlotte (N.C.) Providence Day School offensive tackle David Sanders, Jr.

Sanders is the No. 1 overall player in the 2025 class, per 247Sports, which tabs Bolden and Brown as the No. 1 safety and No. 1 linebacker, respectively, in the 2024 class.

Clemson, of course, doesn’t offer recruits as young as Sanders, per the program’s policy. But the elite o-line prospect would love to add Clemson to his offer list in the future.

“That offer would mean the world to me,” he told The Clemson Insider back in May. “Clemson is definitely one of the schools that I like the most. So, that offer would mean the world. Knowing the coaches and them knowing my family, that just means even more. And then getting back down there and building that relationship with Coach Swinney and Coach Austin, it would just be great.”

Saturday will be of relative importance for Clemson offensive line coach Thomas Austin, as Clemson is set to host two of the Palmetto State’s top prospects in Woodland (Dorchester, S.C.) four-star offensive tackle Kam Pringle and Dillon (S.C.) four-star offensive tackle Josiah Thompson.

The 247Sports Composite considers Pringle and Thompson to be interchangeable Nos. 1 and 2 in the rankings.

Additionally, Greenville (S.C.) High School four-star Blake Franks is planning to attend Saturday’s game. Franks (6-5, 310) participated in the Dabo Swinney Camp this summer and visited Clemson multiple times since this past March. He received an offer from Clemson in late July.

He has heard from Clemson offensive line coach Thomas Austin and other members of the Tigers’ staff since the calendar turned to Sept. 1, when college coaches across the country could begin directly contacting junior prospects in the class of 2024.

“He (Austin) told me I’m a big priority,” Franks said to TCI recently, “and that he’s going to come to one of our games this year.”

Franks holds more than a dozen scholarship offers, including offers from schools such as Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Louisville, Miami, North Carolina, Ole Miss, Penn State and South Carolina along with Clemson.

He told TCI earlier this month that while he didn’t know at the time which schools comprise his top five, he definitely thinks Clemson “is high up there” on his list.

Perhaps the most intriguing prospect on the offensive side of the football that will be in The Valley this Saturday is Savannah (Ga.) Calvary Day School 2024 four-star quarterback Jake Merklinger.

The top-100 national recruit and the No. 9 ranked quarterback in the 2024 class per the 247Sports Composite rankings, has made three trips to Clemson in the last calendar year. While he hasn’t yet boasted an offer from the Tigers, he is firmly on their radar and moved up their recruiting board after his performance at Swinney Camp earlier this summer.

A couple of big-time receiver prospects are expected to be on hand as well in Burlington (N.C.) Hugh M. Cummings four-star Jonathan Paylor, Grimsley (Greensboro, N.C.) four-star Alex Taylor,  Cass (Cartersville, Ga.) four-star Sacovie White and King George (Va.) three-star Mekhai White.

The Clemson Insider originally reported that Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas four-star James Madison II would be in attendance, but his status for Saturday’s game is currently unknown with Hurricane Ian lashing through Florida.

Clemson will also play host to Perry (Ga.) Dakari Anderson, an intriguing receiver prospect in the class of 2024, holds a lone offer from Texas A&M.

Carrollton (Ga.) 2024 four-star tight end Caleb Odom announced that he will be in The Valley this weekend. Odom, who is considered to be a top-15 tight end in his class by the 247Sports Composite rankings, told The Clemson Insider back in August that he had been invited to some camps, but there was no hard interest from the Tigers just yet.

That appears to have changed as Odom, who will be at Saturday’s contest versus N.C. State, said that this weekend is “gonna be crazy.”

Switching over to the defensive side of the football, one of the top defensive back prospects planning to visit Clemson for Saturday’s game is Tavoy Feagin, a four-star cornerback from Carrollwood Day School in Tampa, Fla.

Feagin, a 6-foot, 170-pound junior, was the first player at his position to receive an offer from Clemson when the Tigers began dispensing offers to class of 2024 recruits back on June 1.

After traveling to Clemson for an unofficial visit in early March, Feagin made his way back to campus on June 2. Later in June, he included the Tigers among his top 10 schools, along with Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Miami, North Carolina, Ohio State and Oklahoma.

“The reason why I put Clemson in my top 10 was because I really like the coaching staff and the atmosphere,” he said to TCI after dropping the list.

Feagin is ranked as high as the No. 73 overall prospect in the 2024 class by 247Sports.

The other top defensive back prospect that will be in attendance is Chesapeake (Va.) Oscar Smith four-star cornerback Asaad Brown.

Brown — ranked as the nation’s No. 9 cornerback and No. 116 overall prospect in the class of 2024 by 247Sports — dropped a top-10 list earlier this month featuring Clemson along with Arkansas, Ole Miss, Virginia Tech, Mississippi State, LSU, Florida State, North Carolina, NC State and Penn State.

Among other notable recruits on Clemson’s anticipated guest list for Saturday’s game are Central (S.C.) D W Daniel 2023 wide receiver Jaylen Brown-Wallace, Lawrenceville (Ga.) 2024 four-star defensive lineman Justin Greene, Buford (Ga.) 2024 four-star defensive end KingJoseph Edwards, Chattanooga (Tenn.) Christian School 2024 four-star athlete Boo Carter, Pike Road (Ala.) 2024 four-star defensive lineman Malik Blocton, Taylor (Katy, TX.) 2024 three-star tight end Ian Flynt, Ponte Vedra (Fla.) 2024 three-star offensive lineman Jake Guarnera, Hough (Cornelius, N.C.) kicker Nolan Hauser, Northwestern (Rock Hill, S.C.) 2024 RB Turbo Richard, Lynchburg (Va.) Liberty Christian Academy 2025 four-star running back Gideon Davidson, 2025 Rabun Gap-Nacoochee (Georgia) School 2025 tight end Marshall Pritchett, Buford (Ga.) 2026 defensive lineman Bryce Perry-Wright and Cass (Cartersville, Ga.) 2026 quarterback Brodie McWhorter.

Clemson 2023 quarterback commitment Christopher Vizzina of Birmingham (Ala.) Briarwood Christin School, offensive line commit Harris Sewell of Permian (Odessa, TX.), defensive end commit AJ Hoffler of College Park (Ga.) Woodward Academy, linebacker commit Jamal Anderson of Hoschton (Ga.) Mill Creek and offensive line commit Ian Reed of Vandegrift (Austin, TX.) will also be in The Valley on Saturday.

The Insider Report: Updates on 5-star LB, priority WR target and other weekend visitors

It’s time for this week’s edition of The Insider Report.

We hope everyone had a great weekend.

5-star linebacker set to give Clemson another look

As The Clemson Insider previously reported, Buford (Ga.) 2025 five-star linebacker Jadon Perlotte will be in attendance for this Saturday’s game against N.C. State. Perlotte confirmed as much on social media this past weekend.

Perlotte, who was recently designated as a five-star prospect, will make his way to campus for the first time since March 12. Clemson left a major impression on him and his mother during the program’s underclassmen day, and even though he didn’t find his way to Tiger Town this past summer, he’s making his way back to campus this weekend.

When we caught up with Perlotte back in May, he had been in contact with Kavell Conner, who is in his first season serving in defensive player development on Dabo Swinney’s staff.

“He said he (saw) me blow up and he asked me if I was still loyal,” Perlotte began to recall with a chuckle. “He asked me if I was still interested (in Clemson). He wanted to know how I was feeling.”

Perlotte, who ranks as the nation’s No. 4 linebacker and the No. 33 overall prospect in the class of 2025, per the 247Sports Composite rankings, currently holds over 20 scholarship offers from just about every high-profile Power Five program.

If Clemson were eventually to pull the trigger on a scholarship offer, what would that mean for Perlotte and his recruitment?

“It’d mean everything,” he said. “That’s one of my dream schools. They’d definitely be right up there.”

Perlotte actually said at the time — May 10 — that he was looking to get back on campus in a couple of weeks, so he could show his father around campus. Obviously, that never materialized, but he’ll have a chance to experience his first gameday in The Valley this Saturday.

One of Perlotte’s teammates at Buford, KingJoseph Edwards, will also be in attendance.

Edwards, who 247Sports considers to be the nation’s No. 4 athlete and the No. 12 overall prospect in the class of 2024, was originally planning to visit for the Syracuse game on Oct. 22 but confirmed to TCI on Monday that he has since moved up his visit to this weekend.

“Yes, I’ve never been,” Edwards said in a message to TCI on Monday when asked if he was looking forward to visiting this weekend.

Carolinas WR excited to take in first Clemson gameday visit

Clemson is set to play host to a number of high-profile targets this weekend, but few are more important than Burlington (N.C.) Hugh M. Cummings 2024 four-star wide receiver Jonathan Paylor.

Paylor has been prioritized by Tyler Grisham ever since Clemson’s wide receivers coach pulled the trigger on a scholarship offer back in June. Paylor heard from Grisham as soon as he could directly contact prospects in the class of 2024 like Paylor on Sept. 1.

“It was pretty urgent,” Paylor told TCI earlier this month. “He was like literally the first person who texted and called me. He sent me a text about how excited he is to go on this journey that we’re gonna continue to build on.”

“It’s showing me that he’s very interested in me in a player like me,” Paylor continued. “It just goes to show that he’s really engaged and really serious about who he recruits and how he recruits them.”

Paylor is set to be at Clemson this weekend and he’ll return to Memorial Stadium at the end of the regular season for the South Carolina game. Following this weekend, he’ll visit Maryland and Tennessee, while also paying N.C. State another visit and making multiple trips to the University of South Carolina.

“That game is going to be big,” Paylor said of this weekend’s game against N.C. State. “I swear, I know it is. I’m really ready to see what kind of season they have as they bounce back from last season. Because last season they didn’t really have a season that Clemson usually has. They put in all this hard work over the summer. (I’m excited) to see what kind of impact it had over the summer and just seeing how the team will react.”

Big Georgia OL loved recent Clemson visit

Among the prospects who attended Clemson’s win over Louisiana Tech, two Saturdays ago was Gabriel Fortson, an offensive lineman in the class of 2023 from North Cobb Christian School in Kennesaw, Ga.

The 6-foot-4, 300-pound senior told TCI he “loved every second” of the visit.

It was Fortson’s second gameday visit to Clemson but first for a night game at Death Valley, and he came away very impressed.

“The stadium was packed out, and you could barely even hear yourself think,” he said

Fortson was accompanied by his mother, who loves Clemson as well. They were able to spend a good bit of time with Tigers offensive line coach Thomas Austin, and Fortson said he felt their relationship with him “definitely” grew stronger.

A big part of the visit that stood out to Fortson, he said, was seeing how the Tigers played the Louisiana Tech game in tribute to Ella Bresee, the younger sister of Bryan who sadly passed away at 15 years old following her 18-month battle with brain cancer.

“It shows the type of culture that they have there,” Fortson said.

Prior to visiting Clemson, Fortson saw the Tigers play in their season opener against Georgia Tech at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, as a guest of the Yellow Jackets. He feels Georgia Tech and UCF are the schools showing him the most love so far, as well as Clemson more recently.

Georgia Tech and UCF have offered Fortson, along with schools such as North Carolina, NC State, Duke, Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Missouri.

Clemson, he said, is one of his “dream schools.”

Tigers set to host top cornerback target

One of the top defensive back prospects planning to visit Clemson for Saturday’s game is Tavoy Feagin, a four-star cornerback from Carrollwood Day School in Tampa, Fla.

Feagin’s father, Michael, played defensive back at Alabama in the 1990s when Dabo Swinney was on the Crimson Tide’s coaching staff.

Mike Reed is spearheading Clemson’s recruitment of Feagin, who communicates regularly with Reed and has plenty of respect for the Tigers’ cornerbacks coach – both for the job he does on the field, and who he is off the field as well.

“I always stay in contact with Coach Reed,” Feagin said, “because not only is he a great coach, he’s also a great person and mentor.”

Feagin is ranked as high as the No. 73 overall prospect in the 2024 class by 247Sports.

Priority local OL planning to visit Saturday

A priority local offensive line target is slated to be back on campus this weekend.

Greenville (S.C.) High School four-star Blake Franks is planning to attend Saturday’s game.

Franks participated in the Swinney Camp this summer and has visited Clemson multiple times since this past March.

The 6-foot-5, 310-pound junior received an offer from Clemson in late July.

Fast-rising receiver headed to Tiger Town this weekend

Clemson is set to play host to another fast-rising receiver prospect in the class of 2024 this weekend. King George (Va.) 2024 three-star Mekhai White confirmed his visit plans to TCI on Monday night.

White has been in contact with Tyler Grisham and Mike Reed since Sept. 1. According to White, Clemson really likes how he spreads the field and they’re really interested in him as a prospect going forward.

White was unable to make it down in June when Clemson originally invited him to a game. White said that Grisham told him to come down for a game and he’ll see what happens.

“It would mean a lot,” White said regarding a potential offer from Clemson. “A school like that giving me a scholarship would be awesome. It would be great.”

The Clemson-N.C. State game will be White’s third gameday visit this year and his first to Clemson. So far this season, he’s made his way to two other ACC schools in North Carolina and Virginia Tech.

Big-time Florida DB talks recruitment, explains why Clemson is among his top schools

This past Sunday, a big-time Clemson defensive back target trimmed down his list of more than four dozen total offers when he dropped his top schools on social media.

Carrollwood Day School (Tampa, Fla.) four-star cornerback Tavoy Feagin – the nation’s No. 63 overall prospect in the 2024 class, per the 247Sports Composite rankings – released a top 10 featuring Clemson along with Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Miami, North Carolina, Ohio State and Oklahoma.

The Clemson Insider caught up the 6-foot, 170-pound rising junior, who feels some recruiting-related weight has been lifted off him now that he has narrowed things down a bit, but says his recruitment is still wide open.

“It feels good to have some of the schools off my back,” Feagin told TCI, “but I also know that there will also be some that will continue to recruit hard but I’m ready and 100% open.”

Feagin, one of the first prospects to report an offer from Clemson when the program started dishing out offers to 2024 recruits on June 1, explained why he included the Tigers among his top group of contenders.

“The reason why I put Clemson in my top 10 was because I really like the coaching staff and the atmosphere,” he said.

After traveling to Clemson for an unofficial visit in early March, Feagin made his way back to campus in early June and already has his sights set on another trip to Tiger Town during the upcoming season.

“I really enjoyed the visit earlier this month because I took a visit as if I was already on campus,” he said. “I plan on going back to Clemson during the fall to a game to really see how the fan base is.”

What’s next for Feagin in the recruiting process now that he has put out his top 10?

“The next step for my recruitment is just enjoying the process,” he said.

Feagin’s father, Michael, played defensive back at Alabama in the 1990s when Dabo Swinney was on the Crimson Tide’s coaching staff.

The younger Feagin is ranked as the nation’s No. 11 cornerback in the 2024 class by Rivals.

Gators land in top 10 for this 2024 4-star defensive back

Tavoy Feagin is ranked just outside of the top 50 in the class of 2024, and he has Florida in his top 10 early on.

With over a year left in his recruitment, one of the top-ranked defensive backs in the class of 2024 has narrowed things down to 10 schools and Florida made the cut.

Four-star cornerback [autotag]Tavoy Feagin[/autotag] named Florida, Alabama, Clemson, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Miami, North Carolina, Ohio State and Oklahoma as his current top schools but also noted that his recruitment was still open to other programs. Feagin was by Florida for an unofficial in late March and noticed a big change in the way the program is run under Billy Napier.

With [autotag]Corey Raymond[/autotag] on staff, it should at least be difficult for the Carrollwood Day (Tampa) cornerback to say no to his home state’s top program. That said, Feagin is ranked as a safety by 247Sports and could play either position in college. Florida’s recently prioritized the secondary, adding [autotag]Kamari Wilson[/autotag] and [autotag]Devin Moore[/autotag] in the class of 2022 and possibly [autotag]Cormani McClain[/autotag] and [autotag]Joenel Aguero[/autotag] in this cycle.

Beating out the likes of the Buckeye, Bulldogs and Crimson Tide isn’t easy, but Florida at least has the advantage of proximity. However, Florida State and Miami are both still in the race, so he hasn’t picked a favorite among the three just yet.

The 247Sports composite ranks Feagin fourth among projected safeties in the class of 2024 and he stands at No. 51 nationally. It’s always good to see Florida land on one of these lists, but there’s a lot of work to be done to get Feagin on board.

An elite defensive back from the Sunshine State named Clemson among his top schools Sunday.

Carrollwood Day School (Tampa, Fla.) four-star cornerback Tavoy Feagin dropped a top 10 featuring the Tigers along with Miami, Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State, Florida, North Carolina, Florida State, LSU and Oklahoma.

Feagin (6-0, 170) is the nation’s No. 51 overall prospect in the 2024 class, per the 247Sports Composite rankings, while Rivals considers him the No. 11 cornerback in his class.

He was one of the first to report an offer from the Tigers when Clemson formally turned the page to offering prospects in the 2024 class on June 1 and started doling out offers to rising junior recruits.

“It’s truly a blessing,” Feagin told The Clemson Insider after receiving the offer. “That’s all I can say, it’s truly a blessing.”

“They’ve been a big program for years now, and they’re just going to be better for years,” he added. “So, it’s a blessing.”

Feagin’s father, Michael, played defensive back at Alabama in the 1990s when Dabo Swinney was on the Crimson Tide’s coaching staff, and Feagin said his dad and Clemson’s head coach have a “really good relationship.”

Feagin traveled to Clemson in early June and was also on campus for an unofficial visit in early March.

“When I went for my first visit, it was a family atmosphere,” he said of what makes Clemson one of his top schools. “Coach Swinney, he coached my father when he was in college, and then some of my dad’s teammates coached for Clemson. So, it was just like a family atmosphere.”

It’s that time of the year again.

The Clemson Insider was on hand for Day 2 of the Dabo Swinney Camp on Thursday, June 2. Here are our notes and observations from the morning session of Thursday’s Swinney Camp:

— If there was any doubt that Greenville (S.C.) 2024 four-star WR Mazeo Bennett was a top target, a member of Clemson’s coaching staff and Clemson senior director of recruiting Jordan Sorrells came out to greet him, as he arrived Thursday.

— The same could be said for Webb School of Knoxville (Tenn.) 2024 four-star ATH Markeis Barrett and IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) 2024 four-star Brandon Winton. The same coach that greeted Bennett, greeted both Barrett and Winton, who are close friends and former teammates.

— We didn’t have a chance to watch St. Joseph’s Prep School (Philadelphia, Pa.) four-star cornerback, Omilio Agard, during the individual drills, but we can tell you that there was a lot of attention surrounding his workout. Agard told us that he would be working out during the morning session and take a visit later this afternoon. It would be surprising if Agard didn’t leave campus today with an offer.

— When Clemson formally turned the page to offering prospects in the 2024 class on Wednesday and started doling out offers to rising junior recruits, one of the first to report an offer from the Tigers was Carrollwood Day School (Tampa, Fla.) four-star cornerback Tavoy Feagin. We can tell you that Feagin was in attendance during Thursday’s camp and certainly looked the part from what we could see.

— Another defensive back that we noticed was Moody (Ala.) 2024 four-star A’mon Lane. While Lane is listed as a cornerback by multiple recruiting services, he was working out with the safeties this morning and received a lot of attention from co-defensive coordinator/safeties coach Mickey Conn.

— Lane’s teammate, Moody (Ala.) 2023 three-star WR Davion Dozier was a name that we highlighted as a potential offer target. Dozier told us that he would be camping at Clemson Thursday, in hopes that he can earn that coveted offer. Standing at 6-foot-4, Dozier certainly looks the part. He’s a tall, lengthy receiver and a smooth route-runner.

— As we alluded to earlier, today was a big day for the receivers. Mazeo Bennett and IMG Academy’s Winston Watkins, the younger cousin of former Clemson standout, Sammy Watkins, were the main attractions. Winston, who is a Texas A&M commit, is as fast as advertised. All eyes were on the dynamic athlete, as his speed certainly stands out.

— Another receiver we watched was Chris Lawson, Jr. out of Columbia’s (S.C.) Ridge View High School. Lawson has multiple Power Five offers with N.C. State, Duke and West Virginia standing out. The hope is like Dozier, he can earn an offer due to his performance today. That remains to be seen, but interest from Tyler Grisham was enough to warrant Thursday’s camp visit.

— While the quarterbacks weren’t as talented as the group we saw Wednesday, there were a couple of names on the younger side that we were rather impressed with. Clay-Chalkville (Pinson, Ala.) 2024 four-star Kamari McClellan and Carrolton’s (Ga.) Julian Lewis. While Lewis is a class of 2026 prospect, he sure can spin it. He already holds multiple Power Five offers from programs like Florida, Georgia, Michigan, Oregon and Penn State, and has yet to throw a pass at the high school level.

— One linebacker we were really impressed with was East Lincoln (Denver, N.C.) 2023 three-star Ben Cutter. His coverage skills were superb and from what we saw, he looks like an offer-worthy candidate. Whether that happens, obviously remains to be seen, but Cutter has built up a relationship with Wesley Goodwin and is almost certainly high up on Clemson’s defensive coordinator/linebackers coach’s board.

— We liked what we saw out of Parkview (Lilburn, Ga.) 2025 offensive lineman Cortez Smith, who has the athleticism to play any position across the line. He’s quickly cementing himself as one of the top offensive linemen in the class of 2025.

Clemson offer ‘truly a blessing’ for 4-star CB, Alabama legacy

When Clemson formally turned the page to offering prospects in the 2024 class on Wednesday and started doling out offers to rising junior recruits, one of the first to report an offer from the Tigers was Carrollwood Day School (Tampa, Fla.) four-star cornerback Tavoy Feagin.

“It’s truly a blessing,” Feagin told The Clemson Insider on Wednesday, regarding receiving the offer. “That’s all I can say, it’s truly a blessing.”

The nation’s No. 51 overall prospect in his class, per the 247Sports Composite, Feagin announced the offer from Clemson on Wednesday morning following a conversation with cornerbacks coach Mike Reed.

According to Feagin, Reed’s message to him when officially informing him of the offer was “really that they could use a player like me with the program.”

“I was really excited to hear that considering it’s, like, Clemson,” Feagin said. “They’ve been a big program for years now, and they’re just going to be better for years. So, it’s a blessing.”

Feagin traveled to Clemson on Wednesday and will work out a little bit with Reed at the Dabo Swinney Camp today.

This marks his second trip to Tiger Town, as Feagin was also on campus at Clemson for an unofficial visit in early March.

Feagin’s father, Michael, played defensive back at Alabama in the 1990s when Swinney was on the Crimson Tide’s coaching staff, and Feagin said his dad and Swinney have a “really good relationship.”

Feagin, who lists around 50 total offers, expects to drop his top 10 schools in early July and told TCI that the Tigers will “for sure” make the list.

“When I went for my first visit, it was a family atmosphere,” he said of what makes Clemson one of his top schools. “Coach Swinney, he coached my father when he was in college, and then some of my dad’s teammates coached for Clemson. So, it was just like a family atmosphere.”

Moving forward this month, Feagin is scheduled for trips to Alabama, Jackson State, LSU, North Carolina and Georgia, with most of those being visits and Alabama the lone camp.

As it stands now at this point in the process, Feagin feels four schools are recruiting him the hardest.

“Probably LSU, Alabama and Clemson so far, and Georgia,” he said.

An elite cornerback from the Sunshine State picked up an offer from Clemson on Wednesday.

Carrollwood High School (Tampa, Fla.) four-star Tavoy Feagin reported the offer on social media.

Feagin (6-0, 170) is ranked as high as the No. 51 overall prospect in the 2024 class, per the 247Sports Composite.

He made an unofficial visit to Clemson on Saturday, March 5.

“I really enjoyed it,” he told The Clemson Insider. “It was probably one of the best visits I had in a while.”

“It’s really the coaching staff, how they really treated me like family over there,” he added of what stood out to him from the visit. “And I really like the facility.”

While on campus, Feagin had the chance to spend time with cornerbacks coach Mike Reed as well as head coach Dabo Swinney.

Reed and Swinney made Feagin feel right at home while he was on campus.

“They were really cool, I really loved them,” he said. “It really felt like a family atmosphere over there.”

Among the 40-plus schools that have already extended offers to Feagin are Georgia, LSU, Auburn, Texas A&M, Texas, Oklahoma, Miami, Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, Oregon, Southern Cal and Notre Dame, to name some.

Feagin told TCI that an offer from the Tigers would put them at the top of his list.

“Everything stands out for Clemson right now – the coaching staff, facility,” he said. “Really just the atmosphere is really standing out. I love the fans. So, once I get an offer, they’ll most definitely be in the top five.”

Elite Florida DB says ‘everything stands out’ about Clemson after impressive visit

One of the nation’s top young defensive back prospects made his first-ever visit to Clemson earlier this month and came away very impressed.

Carrollwood Day School (Tampa, Fla.) four-star Tavoy Feagin – the country’s No. 5 safety and a top-50 national prospect in the 2024 class regardless of position, per the 247Sports Composite rankings – certainly wasn’t disappointed after his first experience in Tiger Town during an unofficial visit on Saturday, March 5.

“I really enjoyed it,” he told The Clemson Insider. “It was probably one of the best visits I had in a while.”

“It’s really the coaching staff, how they really treated me like family over there,” he added of what stood out to him from the visit. “And I really like the facility.”

While on campus, Feagin (6-0, 170) had the chance to spend time with cornerbacks coach Mike Reed as well as head man Dabo Swinney.

Based on what he heard from the coaches, Feagin thinks there’s a good chance that an offer from Clemson will come his way in June when the Tigers turn the page to offering prospects in the 2024 class.

“They were telling me how they’ve been watching my film for the longest (time) now,” Feagin said. “And since I’m an underclassman, they can’t offer till maybe June.”

Feagin’s favorite part of the visit was hearing how he’s the type of defensive back that Reed looks for and likes to have on the field.

“The highlight was probably sitting down in Coach Reed’s office and breaking down what he wants into a DB and stuff,” Feagin said, “and how I fit all those traits he has.”

Reed and Swinney made Feagin feel right at home while he was on campus.

“They were really cool, I really loved them,” he said. “It really felt like a family atmosphere over there.”

The coaches left a great impression on Feagin’s family as well.

“I came with my parents and my little brother. They really loved it,” he said. “They really loved how the coaches treat us over there.”

Feagin visited UCF at the beginning of this year and most recently went to Florida State last Saturday. He is slated to visit Florida this Saturday and Alabama on April 8.

All those schools are among the 40-plus that have already extended offers to Feagin, whose offer list also features programs such as Georgia, LSU, Auburn, Texas A&M, Texas, Oklahoma, Miami, Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, Oregon, Southern Cal and Notre Dame, to name some.

Following his outstanding visit to Clemson earlier this month, Feagin told TCI that the Tigers would have a spot at the top of his list if they indeed pull the trigger on an offer this summer as he expects.

“Everything stands out for Clemson right now – the coaching staff, facility,” he said. “Really just the atmosphere is really standing out. I love the fans. So, once I get an offer, they’ll most definitely be in the top five.”

According to the 247Sports Composite, Feagin ranks as the No. 5 safety and No. 47 overall prospect in the country for the 2024 class.
