Clemson once again played host to a top local offensive line target this week.

Greenville (S.C.) High School four-star Blake Franks returned to Tiger Town on Tuesday.

It marked Franks’ third visit to Clemson since the start of last month. The 6-foot-5, 310-pound junior in the class of 2024 also made his way to campus for the Syracuse game on Oct. 22 after attending the NC State game on Oct. 1 — his first time witnessing a game at Death Valley in person.

The Clemson Insider caught up with Franks after his latest experience at Clemson this week.

“It was good,” Franks said of the visit. “I really enjoyed being able to talk to the staff one on one. It made me feel like I was a priority.”

During Tuesday’s visit, Franks spent the majority of his time with offensive line coach Thomas Austin but also had the chance to talk with head man Dabo Swinney as well as senior director of recruiting Jordan Sorrells.

“I heard overall their value on faith, family, friends, me as an athlete, and the development I would get there,” Franks said of what he heard from the coaches.

Franks, who received an offer from the Tigers in late July, made the visit with his mother.

“She said she really enjoyed the campus and the staff,” he said.

The overall best part of the visit for Franks personally was being able to take a full campus tour and get a feel for what it’s really like to be a Tiger.

“Just getting to see the campus for the first time and experience the true life of a Clemson Tiger,” he explained.

Franks released a top eight last month featuring Clemson along with South Carolina, Florida, Ole Miss, North Carolina, Miami, Alabama and Florida State.

Where do the Tigers stand with him right now after his latest trip to campus?

“I think they’re a possible top three in my opinion,” he said.

Franks has also been to each of the other schools in his top eight this season.

He’ll be back in Tiger Town for his third gameday visit to Clemson later this month.

“I only have one more visit planned and that’s to Clemson vs. South Carolina (on Nov. 26),” he said, “but I also might go back to South Carolina for the Tennessee game (on Nov. 19).”

Franks said he is hoping to make his college decision in December.

He is rated as a four-star prospect by Rivals, which considers him the No. 4 prospect in the Palmetto State, No. 8 offensive guard nationally and No. 250 overall prospect in the country for the 2024 class.

Priority local OL talks latest Clemson visit, where Tigers stand

Clemson played host to this priority local offensive line target last Saturday for the second time in the past two home games.

Greenville (S.C.) High School four-star offensive lineman Blake Franks returned to campus for the Tigers’ 27-21 victory over Syracuse at Death Valley.

“It was great with an amazing atmosphere,” Franks said to The Clemson Insider regarding the gameday visit.

The 6-foot-5, 310-pound junior in the class of 2024 also made an unofficial visit to Clemson for its previous home game vs. NC State on Oct. 1 — his first time attending a game in The Valley.

On the Syracuse game visit, he was accompanied by his Greenville teammate, 2024 defensive end Jayden Wilson-Abrams.

“He had a good time watching the game,” Franks said, “and he got to talk to Clemson D-end coach (Lemanski Hall) before we left.”

Franks was able to catch up with various coaches including Thomas Austin, who extended an offer to Franks on behalf of the Tigers in late July.

What was the overall message that Clemson’s offensive line coach conveyed to Franks on Saturday?

“That I’m one of their guys and that I’m a priority,” Franks said.

Franks also had the chance to speak with head coach Dabo Swinney after the game and cited that as the highlight of Saturday’s visit.

“He was happy I got to make it to the game,” Franks said of what he heard from Swinney, “and wanted me to come back to tour the campus sometime.”

Added Franks of what he thinks of Swinney as a coach and person: “I think Coach Swinney is a family man, and when he coaches, he tries to bring that part of him to the way he coaches a little bit.”

Franks, who holds more than a dozen scholarship offers in total, released a top eight last week featuring Clemson along with South Carolina, Florida, Ole Miss, North Carolina, Miami, Alabama and Florida State.

Did his latest Clemson visit change anything about where the Tigers stand with him at this point in the recruiting process?

“Yeah it changed a little bit,” he said, “but I already thought very highly of Clemson before going to the game.”

Up next for Franks is a visit to Florida State for its game against Georgia Tech this Saturday. He has also been to South Carolina, Miami, Ole Miss, Alabama and Florida this season.

Franks is rated as a four-star prospect by Rivals, which considers him the No. 4 prospect in the Palmetto State, No. 8 offensive guard nationally and No. 250 overall prospect in the country for the 2024 class.

Florida makes top 8 for this highly-sought 2024 offensive lineman

There’s still plenty of work to do, but Florida has recruited 2024 offensive lineman Blake Franks well enough to land his top eight schools.

Greeneville, South Carolina, offensive tackle [autotag]Blake Franks[/autotag] has narrowed down his options to eight schools, according to a post he made on Twitter Monday.

Florida will compete with Alabama, Clemson, Florida State, Miami, North Carolina, Ole Miss and South Carolina for Franks’ services. Although Franks’ relationship with UF is still relatively new, he recently visited Gainesville to see the Gators take on the LSU Tigers. That trip helped him connect with position coach [autotag]Rob Sale[/autotag] and gave Franks a taste of what a game day in the Swamp is really like, according to 247Sports.

“When I was down there they treated me like I was one of their top guys, Also, I really like getting to know coach Rob Sale. He’s been the main guy talking to me. He’s been a very good help throughout this recruiting process. So that’s why they made the list.”

Franks was at Clemson this weekend to see the Tigers take down Syracuse and is planning a trip to Florida State for the Georgia Tech game next weekend. He’s planning a December or January announcement but says it could be sooner.

The Gators offered the three-star recruit at the beginning of August, following a surge in his recruitment over the spring and summer. Franks is versatile enough to play at a few different spots on the line, making him a valuable asset for any Power Five program. The 247Sports composite ranks him No. 400 overall in the class of 2024 and No. 32 among offensive tackles.

Among the many top prospects in attendance for Clemson’s top-10 win over NC State on Saturday night was this priority local offensive line target.

Greenville (S.C.) High School four-star Blake Franks took an unofficial visit to Death Valley for the Tigers’ 30-20 victory over the Wolfpack.

“The visit was great,” he told The Clemson Insider. “I really enjoyed the energy of the crowd and the run down the hill.”

Franks, a 6-foot-5, 310-pound junior in the class of 2024, made the short trip to Tiger Town with his mother.

“She enjoyed the crowd,” Franks said of his mom’s visit experience. “She also loved the distance from home.”

What did they hear from Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney while on campus?

“Coach Swinney talked about the program and how much he loves being there personally,” Franks said.

Franks, who participated in the Swinney Camp this past summer and has visited Clemson multiple times since this past March, received an offer from the Tigers in late July.

He holds more than a dozen scholarship offers in total, including offers from schools such as Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Louisville, Miami, North Carolina, Ole Miss, Penn State and South Carolina along with Clemson.

Where do the Tigers stand with Franks in his recruitment following Saturday’s game-day visit to campus?

“I would say that I know Clemson is in my top eight,” he said, “and they might even be in my top five.”

Up next for Franks are visits to Alabama (Oct. 8), Florida (Oct. 15) and Florida State (Oct. 29).

Clemson will get at least one more visit from him before season’s end.

“I know I’ll be there for Clemson vs. USC (on Nov. 26),” he said, “but I don’t know, I might be back sooner than that.”

Franks is rated as a four-star prospect by Rivals, which considers him the No. 4 prospect in the Palmetto State and No. 8 offensive guard nationally for the 2024 class.

The Insider Report: Updates on 5-star LB, priority WR target and other weekend visitors

It’s time for this week’s edition of The Insider Report.

We hope everyone had a great weekend.

5-star linebacker set to give Clemson another look

As The Clemson Insider previously reported, Buford (Ga.) 2025 five-star linebacker Jadon Perlotte will be in attendance for this Saturday’s game against N.C. State. Perlotte confirmed as much on social media this past weekend.

Perlotte, who was recently designated as a five-star prospect, will make his way to campus for the first time since March 12. Clemson left a major impression on him and his mother during the program’s underclassmen day, and even though he didn’t find his way to Tiger Town this past summer, he’s making his way back to campus this weekend.

When we caught up with Perlotte back in May, he had been in contact with Kavell Conner, who is in his first season serving in defensive player development on Dabo Swinney’s staff.

“He said he (saw) me blow up and he asked me if I was still loyal,” Perlotte began to recall with a chuckle. “He asked me if I was still interested (in Clemson). He wanted to know how I was feeling.”

Perlotte, who ranks as the nation’s No. 4 linebacker and the No. 33 overall prospect in the class of 2025, per the 247Sports Composite rankings, currently holds over 20 scholarship offers from just about every high-profile Power Five program.

If Clemson were eventually to pull the trigger on a scholarship offer, what would that mean for Perlotte and his recruitment?

“It’d mean everything,” he said. “That’s one of my dream schools. They’d definitely be right up there.”

Perlotte actually said at the time — May 10 — that he was looking to get back on campus in a couple of weeks, so he could show his father around campus. Obviously, that never materialized, but he’ll have a chance to experience his first gameday in The Valley this Saturday.

One of Perlotte’s teammates at Buford, KingJoseph Edwards, will also be in attendance.

Edwards, who 247Sports considers to be the nation’s No. 4 athlete and the No. 12 overall prospect in the class of 2024, was originally planning to visit for the Syracuse game on Oct. 22 but confirmed to TCI on Monday that he has since moved up his visit to this weekend.

“Yes, I’ve never been,” Edwards said in a message to TCI on Monday when asked if he was looking forward to visiting this weekend.

Carolinas WR excited to take in first Clemson gameday visit

Clemson is set to play host to a number of high-profile targets this weekend, but few are more important than Burlington (N.C.) Hugh M. Cummings 2024 four-star wide receiver Jonathan Paylor.

Paylor has been prioritized by Tyler Grisham ever since Clemson’s wide receivers coach pulled the trigger on a scholarship offer back in June. Paylor heard from Grisham as soon as he could directly contact prospects in the class of 2024 like Paylor on Sept. 1.

“It was pretty urgent,” Paylor told TCI earlier this month. “He was like literally the first person who texted and called me. He sent me a text about how excited he is to go on this journey that we’re gonna continue to build on.”

“It’s showing me that he’s very interested in me in a player like me,” Paylor continued. “It just goes to show that he’s really engaged and really serious about who he recruits and how he recruits them.”

Paylor is set to be at Clemson this weekend and he’ll return to Memorial Stadium at the end of the regular season for the South Carolina game. Following this weekend, he’ll visit Maryland and Tennessee, while also paying N.C. State another visit and making multiple trips to the University of South Carolina.

“That game is going to be big,” Paylor said of this weekend’s game against N.C. State. “I swear, I know it is. I’m really ready to see what kind of season they have as they bounce back from last season. Because last season they didn’t really have a season that Clemson usually has. They put in all this hard work over the summer. (I’m excited) to see what kind of impact it had over the summer and just seeing how the team will react.”

Big Georgia OL loved recent Clemson visit

Among the prospects who attended Clemson’s win over Louisiana Tech, two Saturdays ago was Gabriel Fortson, an offensive lineman in the class of 2023 from North Cobb Christian School in Kennesaw, Ga.

The 6-foot-4, 300-pound senior told TCI he “loved every second” of the visit.

It was Fortson’s second gameday visit to Clemson but first for a night game at Death Valley, and he came away very impressed.

“The stadium was packed out, and you could barely even hear yourself think,” he said

Fortson was accompanied by his mother, who loves Clemson as well. They were able to spend a good bit of time with Tigers offensive line coach Thomas Austin, and Fortson said he felt their relationship with him “definitely” grew stronger.

A big part of the visit that stood out to Fortson, he said, was seeing how the Tigers played the Louisiana Tech game in tribute to Ella Bresee, the younger sister of Bryan who sadly passed away at 15 years old following her 18-month battle with brain cancer.

“It shows the type of culture that they have there,” Fortson said.

Prior to visiting Clemson, Fortson saw the Tigers play in their season opener against Georgia Tech at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, as a guest of the Yellow Jackets. He feels Georgia Tech and UCF are the schools showing him the most love so far, as well as Clemson more recently.

Georgia Tech and UCF have offered Fortson, along with schools such as North Carolina, NC State, Duke, Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Missouri.

Clemson, he said, is one of his “dream schools.”

Tigers set to host top cornerback target

One of the top defensive back prospects planning to visit Clemson for Saturday’s game is Tavoy Feagin, a four-star cornerback from Carrollwood Day School in Tampa, Fla.

Feagin, a 6-foot, 170-pound junior, was the first player at his position to receive an offer from Clemson when the Tigers began dispensing offers to class of 2024 recruits back on June 1.

After traveling to Clemson for an unofficial visit in early March, Feagin made his way back to campus on June 2. Later in June, he included the Tigers among his top 10 schools, along with Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Miami, North Carolina, Ohio State and Oklahoma.

“The reason why I put Clemson in my top 10 was because I really like the coaching staff and the atmosphere,” he said to TCI after dropping the list.

Feagin’s father, Michael, played defensive back at Alabama in the 1990s when Dabo Swinney was on the Crimson Tide’s coaching staff.

Mike Reed is spearheading Clemson’s recruitment of Feagin, who communicates regularly with Reed and has plenty of respect for the Tigers’ cornerbacks coach – both for the job he does on the field, and who he is off the field as well.

“I always stay in contact with Coach Reed,” Feagin said, “because not only is he a great coach, he’s also a great person and mentor.”

Feagin is ranked as high as the No. 73 overall prospect in the 2024 class by 247Sports.

Priority local OL planning to visit Saturday

A priority local offensive line target is slated to be back on campus this weekend.

Greenville (S.C.) High School four-star Blake Franks is planning to attend Saturday’s game.

Franks participated in the Swinney Camp this summer and has visited Clemson multiple times since this past March.

The 6-foot-5, 310-pound junior received an offer from Clemson in late July.

He has heard from Clemson offensive line coach Thomas Austin and other members of the Tigers’ staff since the calendar turned to Sept. 1, when college coaches across the country could begin directly contacting junior prospects in the class of 2024.

“He (Austin) told me I’m a big priority,” Franks said to TCI recently, “and that he’s going to come to one of our games this year.”

Franks holds more than a dozen scholarship offers, including offers from schools such as Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Louisville, Miami, North Carolina, Ole Miss, Penn State and South Carolina along with Clemson.

He told TCI earlier this month that while he didn’t know at the time which schools comprise his top five, he definitely thinks Clemson “is high up there” on his list.

Fast-rising receiver headed to Tiger Town this weekend

Clemson is set to play host to another fast-rising receiver prospect in the class of 2024 this weekend. King George (Va.) 2024 three-star Mekhai White confirmed his visit plans to TCI on Monday night.

White has been in contact with Tyler Grisham and Mike Reed since Sept. 1. According to White, Clemson really likes how he spreads the field and they’re really interested in him as a prospect going forward.

White was unable to make it down in June when Clemson originally invited him to a game. White said that Grisham told him to come down for a game and he’ll see what happens.

“It would mean a lot,” White said regarding a potential offer from Clemson. “A school like that giving me a scholarship would be awesome. It would be great.”

The Clemson-N.C. State game will be White’s third gameday visit this year and his first to Clemson. So far this season, he’s made his way to two other ACC schools in North Carolina and Virginia Tech.

This local offensive line target is among the prospects who have heard from Clemson since the calendar turned to Sept. 1, when college coaches across the country could begin directly contacting junior prospects in the class of 2024.

Offensive line coach Thomas Austin and other members of the Tigers’ staff have reached out to Blake Franks, a four-star offensive lineman from Greenville (S.C.) High School.

“I got to talk to Coach Austin,” Franks told The Clemson Insider, “and a few other coaches introduced themselves to me.”

Austin let Franks know that he’s a priority target for the Tigers and expressed his intention to see the 6-foot-5, 310-pounder play in person this fall.

“He told me I’m a big priority,” Franks said, “and that he’s going to come to one of our games this year.”

Hearing that from Austin meant a lot to Franks, who hauled in an offer from Clemson in late July.

“It felt good to hear that I am a priority,” he said.

Franks, who participated in the Dabo Swinney Camp this summer and has visited Clemson multiple times since this past March, told TCI he’s planning to return to campus for the Tigers’ home game vs. NC State on Oct. 1.

Where does Clemson stand with the standout local lineman at this point in his recruiting process?

“I don’t know exactly yet who’s my top five,” he said, “but I definitely think that Clemson is high up there.”

Franks holds more than a dozen scholarship offers, including offers from schools such as Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Louisville, Miami, North Carolina, Ole Miss, Penn State and South Carolina along with Clemson.

Big local lineman ‘would love to take’ another visit to Clemson this fall

Julius Tate wanted to go around to different camps this summer to see how much he could learn and improve himself. So, that’s what the 6-foot-4, 310-pound junior in the class of 2024 did, starting with the Dabo Swinney Camp on June 2. It was Tate’s …

Julius Tate wanted to go around to different camps this summer to see how much he could learn and improve himself.

So, that’s what the 6-foot-4, 310-pound junior in the class of 2024 did, starting with the Dabo Swinney Camp on June 2.

It was Tate’s second time on Clemson’s campus in a mere matter of months. He visited Clemson to tour the facilities and take in a spring practice back on March 12.

In addition to Clemson, he camped at the University of Georgia and the University of South Carolina. He also took an unofficial visit to Louisville earlier this summer.

“When I went to the Clemson camp, it was an amazing experience,” Tate recently told The Clemson Insider. “I had eight teammates down there. I didn’t even realize they went with me. Went down there, got to meet Coach Thomas (Austin). I met a lot of coaches down there that I didn’t expect to meet. It was just great. Just being able to work with Coach Thomas, trying to improve myself, was amazing.”

“It was a great pleasure,” Tate added of meeting Austin. “When I got to talk to him, he had a great personality. He seems like a great coach. Just meeting him was awesome.”

Did anything, in particular, stand out to Tate about his experience at Clemson?

“The drills,” he replied. “Doing the drills at Clemson stuck out more to me because I felt like they were more advanced than when I went to Georgia. I felt Clemson’s camp had more to it. I feel like you took more home with you than what you came with.”

Tate said that the drills he participated in at the Dabo Swinney Camp, felt really similar to what he does at Train Built Performance with Amos Lamb.

Clemson offensive linemen Jordan McFadden, Mitchell Mayes, Bryn Tucker, Collin Sadler and Mason Johnstone have all spent time working with Lamb. As well as Tate’s teammate at Greenville High, Blake Franks, who picked up an offer from the Tigers recently.

“Without Train Built, I wouldn’t be where I am now,” Tate said. “Train Built is amazing. You get to meet new guys and work out with them. You really build your knowledge with technique especially. Going down there, you can’t think of training as a punishment, but more of an improvement. Train Built is amazing.”

Tate said that Lamb tries to make the linemen that he trains as versatile as possible.

Tate starts at left guard for the Red Raiders, and he’ll shift around from both guard positions from time to time. Franks starts next to him at left tackle and also has the positional versatility to play both guard spots as well.

While Clemson may keep an eye on him during his junior campaign, Tate knows that he has to prove himself in the trenches to receive an offer from the in-state school.

“That’s what my goal is this season,” he said, “to prove myself.”

Tate, who holds offers from Miami (OH) and South Carolina State, understands that proving himself during his junior campaign will be pivotal to him and his recruitment going forward.

“Getting my first offer from Miami University gave me hope because I felt like I wasn’t being seen,” Tate said. “But, after that offer, I continued to work harder because I felt that I was actually being looked at.”

Tate is very interested to see what schools may possibly reach out to him on Thursday, Sept. 1, once college coaches around the country can have direct contact with juniors in the class of 2024 like Tate.

He’s hoping that Clemson will be one of the schools that reach out. He’s also hoping that he can take a game day visit to Memorial Stadium this fall.

“I would love to take another visit to Clemson and actually see a game in person,” he said. “I’ve never seen a Clemson game in person before.

Standout local OL all smiles after ‘surprising’ offer from Clemson

Clemson’s latest offensive line offer went out Friday to a local standout in the class of 2024 with a double-digit offer list. Greenville (S.C.) High School’s Blake Franks (pictured right) reported the offer from the Tigers via social media Friday …

Clemson’s latest offensive line offer went out Friday to a local standout in the class of 2024 with a double-digit offer list.

Greenville (S.C.) High School’s Blake Franks (pictured right) reported the offer from the Tigers via social media Friday afternoon and spoke with The Clemson Insider shortly after announcing it.

“It feels really good,” he said. “Kind of surprising because I was just practicing, and my coach was asking me to call him (Clemson offensive line coach Thomas Austin) after the practice. He didn’t exactly get the first call, but afterward he called me and offered me on the spot.”

Franks was all smiles upon receiving the offer during that phone call with Austin.

“Just smiling,” he said of his instant reaction to the offer. “Like, I’m really surprised.”

Franks is capable of manning multiple offensive line positions, and his versatility is one aspect of his game that appeals to Austin.

“He said he liked how versatile I was, I can play both offensive tackle and offensive guard,” Franks said.

The 6-foot-5, 310-pound rising junior participated in the Dabo Swinney Camp this summer and has visited campus multiple times since this past March. He said he’ll “definitely” return to Tiger Town for a game during the upcoming season.

Franks named South Carolina, Ole Miss, Louisville, Miami and Alabama as some of the schools he’s feeling the most interest from at this point in the recruiting process. All of those have offered, along with others such as North Carolina and Penn State.

Where would he say the Tigers currently stand in his recruitment after pulling the trigger on an offer?

“I don’t know exactly right now,” he said. “I haven’t exactly evaluated all my schools. But I feel like definitely off the dome, I’d put them up in the top five maybe.”

Asked what stands out the most to him about Clemson when he thinks about it as a college option now, Franks pointed to “just the atmosphere.”

“It really seems like they try to treat you right over there at Clemson,” he said.

An offer from a program like Clemson is big for anybody. But it means even more to Franks considering he plays high school ball less than an hour away from Clemson’s campus – and grew up rooting for the Tigers.

“I think it’s very big getting an offer from a team I’ve enjoyed watching growing up,” he said. “So, definitely a different feeling right now.”

In-state standout OL reports Clemson offer

A local standout offensive lineman, who holds double-digit scholarship offers, added one from Clemson on Friday afternoon.

Greenville (S.C.) High School’s Blake Franks (pictured right) — a 6-foot-5, 310-pound rising junior in the class of 2024 — announced the offer via social media.

Franks has visited campus multiple times since this past March and worked out at the Dabo Swinney Camp on Thursday, June 2.

“It was good,” Franks said to The Clemson Insider regarding his Swinney Camp experience. “Coach (Clemson offensive line coach Thomas Austin) said I did good.”

Franks, who is capable of manning multiple offensive line positions, expounded upon the feedback he received from Austin at the camp.

“He just told me I killed it, I had good footspeed, I guess,” Franks said. “I need to stop oversetting on my one-on-ones, because I overset it a lot during my one-on-ones. But besides that, he told me I did pretty good.”

The local lineman, who plays high school ball less than an hour away from Clemson’s campus, relishes the fact he’s on the recruiting radar of a big-time program in Clemson – especially considering that he grew up rooting for the Tigers.

And just a couple of years ago, he would have doubted that he’d eventually be drawing interest from Swinney’s program.

“Of course, it’s very good. I enjoy it a lot because I grew up as a Clemson fan,” he said of Clemson’s interest in him. “So, that’s just something that I really like. I’m surprised I’m now getting interest from Clemson, a school that I wouldn’t think I’d get interest from – if you asked me like two years ago, I just wouldn’t think I’d get interest from them.”

Now, he has an offer from the Tigers.

The highlight of the camp for Franks, he said, was “just being able to do the same drills they did, actual college players for Clemson usually do on a day-to-day basis. So, that was pretty interesting.”

Franks also made a couple of unofficial visits to Clemson this spring, first for the Tigers’ March 12 junior day and then for the Orange & White Spring Game on April 9.

Franks has steadily racked up offers since receiving his first one from Ole Miss on May 4. Miami, Louisville, South Florida, Liberty and Miami (Ohio) subsequently offered that month, while South Carolina, North Carolina, Penn State and Coastal Carolina have entered the mix with offers in June.

Franks, who expects to likely get back to Clemson for a game in the fall, has his fingers crossed for a future offer from the school he grew up a fan of.

“The coaches, I can see what they’ve built, and I can see the family they’re building around there,” he said of Clemson. “So, I definitely like to see a team build on something that’s already up there. It’s something interesting and very good to be a part of.”

In addition to Clemson, Franks has camped at Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Miami and Coastal Carolina. He returned to South Carolina for its cookout last weekend and has also visited Louisville and South Florida this month.
