Jets move up two spots in draft order after Giants, Titans win Monday

Thanks to wins by the Giants and Titans on Monday night, the Jets moved up two spots in the draft order to No. 7.

The Jets watched their draft stock improve Monday night without having to do a thing. After defeating the Houston Texans Sunday, the Jets improved to 5-8. Following Sunday’s results, they landed in the No. 9 spot in the draft order, via Tankathon. The Jets were one of four teams with a 5-8 record entering Monday.

With the Giants defeating the Packers and the Titans shocking the Dolphins, there are now six teams at 5-8 — Jets, Giants, Titans, Chargers, Raiders, Bears.

The Giants and Titans have stronger schedules than the Jets, so as a result, the Jets moved up two spots to No. 7 Monday night thanks to their wins. They were already ahead of the Chargers entering Monday. New York sits behind Chicago and Las Vegas in the pecking order.

The Panthers have the worst record at 1-12 and no other team has fewer than three wins, so the odds of Carolina gifting the No. 1 pick to Chicago are very strong. Following Carolina sits New England and Arizona, both at 3-10, with Washington (4-9) sitting fourth.

The Jets are still playing to win and the possibility is still out there that Aaron Rodgers returns this season. But as of now, the Jets are in a good position in the draft.

In case you’re wondering, the Jets would have been No. 4 if they had lost to the Texans.

8 Alabama players land inside the top 100 of latest 2023 NFL draft big board

A total of eight Alabama players land inside the top 100 of Tankathon’s 2023 NFL draft big board.

Now that Alabama’s football season has concluded, it is time to shift our focus to one of my favorite events each year, the NFL draft.

Despite not winning a championship, talent was not lacking on the Crimson Tide roster. Tankathon recently updated its 2023 NFL draft big board, and eight Alabama players landed inside the top 100.

The usual suspects of [autotag]Bryce Young[/autotag], [autotag]Will Anderson Jr.[/autotag] and [autotag]Brian Branch[/autotag] make an appearance, but you may find a couple of surprises rounding out the list.

Here is a complete list of all the Tide players included and where they rank according to Tankathon:

Where the Vikings are currently selected to pick in the 2023 NFL Draft

The updated draft order reflects the Vikings’ success this season

The Minnesota Vikings currently sit at 5-1 which is a truly excellent start to the Kevin O’Connell and Kwesi Adofo-Mensah era.

It’s honestly way too early to be thinking about the NFL draft with the success of the Vikings currently, but it is something to monitor out of the corner of your eye throughout the season.

Per Tankathon, the Vikings currently possess five picks before compensatory selections are announced, owning their first, second, third, fifth and sixth round picks.

After the Vikings beat the Dolphins on Sunday, they dropped down to 30th in the draft order which is both a blessing and a curse. Here is the updated draft order.

  1. Carolina Panthers
  2. Las Vegas Raiders
  3. Detroit Lions
  4. Houston Texans
  5. Philadelphia Eagles (via New Orleans Saints)
  6. Houston Texans (via Cleaveland Browns)
  7. Seattle Seahawks (via Denver Broncos)
  8. Pittsburgh Steelers
  9. Arizona Cardinals
  10. Jacksonville Jaguars
  11. Chicago Bears
  12. Washington Commanders
  13. Atlanta Falcons
  14. Seattle Seahawks
  15. Cincinnati Bengals
  16. New England Patriots
  17. Forfeited by Miami Dolphins
  18. Green Bay Packers
  19. Miami Dolphins (via San Francisco 49ers)
  20. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
  21. Baltimore Ravens
  22. Detroit Lions (via Los Angeles Rams)
  23. Indianapolis Colts
  24. Tennessee Titans
  25. Los Angeles Chargers
  26. New York Jets

Blake Wesley invited to green room for NBA draft

Blake is in the big time now.

Fifty-eight names will be called during this year’s NBA draft, but only 22 of them will be at the Barclays Center to hear their name called. These young men represent what many feel will be the best in this year’s draft class. While results obviously aren’t guaranteed, the promise is there. Among those who will get to walk across the stage and put on his new team’s cap once his name is announced is Notre Dame’s [autotag]Blake Wesley[/autotag]:

It’s generally accepted that Wesley will be selected in the first round, but there are varying predictions as to when that will come. NBADraft.net currently has him as a late lottery pick, and Tankathon is projecting him to go later in the round. Whatever the case may be, Wesley will be in Brooklyn with his family for his big moment. While it would be nice for him to celebrate it in South Bend, who in their right mind would refuse the opportunity to go up on that stage?

2022 NFL Draft: Jaguars currently projected to pick third overall

May I interest you in another top-five pick for the Jaguars?

Jacksonville appeared to have a semi-winnable game on the slate this past Sunday, but it was not to be. The Jags struggled to contain San Francisco’s offensive speed, and its offensive unit couldn’t come up with much of anything at all in a 30-10 loss to the 49ers.

That loss dropped the Jags to 2-8 on the season, and whatever hope for a second-half turnaround existed after the team beat the Miami Dolphins and Buffalo Bills has now mostly evaporated. It’s clear this team simply needs more talent to be consistently competitive, and we’re about at the point where it’s time to turn the attention to draft positioning.

Per Tankathon, the Jaguars are currently projected to pick third overall, which would certainly put them in a position to take one of the elite defensive prospects in this class like Notre Dame safety Kyle Hamilton or an offensive weapon like Ohio State receiver Chris Olave.

Only two teams are currently projected to pick higher than Jacksonville. The New York Jets, who sit at 2-8, as well, are one of them. The Jets have lost their last three games, and with a strength of schedule slightly weaker than the Jags, they would edge them out in a tiebreaker. Meanwhile, the Detroit Lions appear to be heading toward another first overall pick (and potentially a winless season). They sit at 0-9-1, and though they’ve come close, they haven’t managed to secure that first win.

Jacksonville was expected to struggle this year in the first season under coach Urban Meyer and quarterback Trevor Lawrence, but the way the season has panned out, it’s abundantly clear that this team needs another offseason to stockpile talent. If things continue at this pace, the Jaguars will have the chance to draft an elite talent in the first round in 2022.

Washington remains in the top 10 of the 2022 NFL draft order

Washington remains in the top 10, but dropped three spots from a week ago.

If the 2021 NFL season ended today, the NFC East would hold five of the top 10 picks in the 2022 NFL draft. With almost half of the current season remaining, that’s not exactly where you want to be, but it should make for an exciting offseason.

The Washington Football Team picked up a big win in Week 10, upsetting the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 29-19, to snap a four-game losing streak and improve to 3-6 on the season.

The win didn’t prove too costly for Washington’s draft hopes either, as the WFT now holds the No. 9 spot according to Tankathon, falling three positions from last week.

Washington desperately needs to find a long-term answer at quarterback; something fans have been pleading for over the last 30 years. Washington thought it had its man in Robert Griffin III and Kirk Cousins, but neither worked out for different reasons.

There are plenty of quarterbacks in the discussion for the first round in 2022: Sam Howell of North Carolina, Carson Strong of Nevada, Malik Willis of Liberty, Matt Corral of Ole Miss, and Kenny Pickett of Pitt are just some of the names.

So, Washington will have a chance to find its guy in 2022, whether through the draft or the trade market.

Here is a complete look at the current top 10 for the 2022 NFL draft, if the season ended today:

  • Detroit
  • Houston
  • New York Jets
  • Jacksonville
  • Philadelphia (via Miami)
  • New York Giants
  • New York Jets (via Seattle)
  • New York Giants (via Chicago)
  • Washington
  • Philadelphia

Where does Washington stand in the latest 2022 NFL draft order?

Washington remains in the top 10 of the 2022 NFL draft — if the season ended today.

The Washington Football Team had the week off last week. That meant Washington fans could enjoy a drama-free weekend without a loss for the first time in over a month.

Next up for Washington is the defending Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

While Washington and Tampa Bay had the week off, there was plenty of action around the NFL. The Jaguars and Broncos pulled off massive upsets, causing us to question how good the Bills and Cowboys actually are, respectively.

How did Sunday’s Week 9 upsets impact Washington’s 2022 NFL draft status?

According to Tankathon, Washington remains No. 6 in the draft order — if the season ended today.

Washington, which will be in desperate need of a starting quarterback in the offseason, is undoubtedly looking hard at the draft’s top prospects. On Saturday, general manager Martin Mayhew was in Oxford, Mississippi, to watch Liberty vs. Ole Miss, which featured top quarterback prospects Malik Willis and Matt Corral.

Washington scout Jeff Beathard was in attendance for the Wake Forest vs. North Carolina game which featured UNC quarterback Sam Howell.

One thing is certain if the season ended today, Washington would appear to be in good shape in its quest to land a franchise quarterback.

Where would Washington be selecting in the 2022 NFL draft if the season ended today?

Another loss means Washington inches one step closer to landing in the top five of the 2022 NFL draft.

The Washington Football Team dropped to 2-6 on the season after a disappointing 17-10 loss to the Denver Broncos. It is Washington’s fourth consecutive loss as it heads into the bye week.

While it’s still a bit early to rule Washington out of the playoff picture, the Cowboys are the class of the NFC East in 2021, so there will be no repeat of 2020. That means, for fans at least, it’s time to start looking ahead to 2022.

And that means the NFL draft.

After Sunday’s loss, Washington moves up to the No. 6 position in the 2022 NFL draft if the season ended today, per Tankathon. If Washington picks No. 6 overall, it should be able to land one of the draft’s top quarterbacks. Of course, what happens if there isn’t a quarterback worth taking at that position?

Washington will once again be in the quarterback market in 2022. And, this offseason could be the most pivotal search in franchise history as Washington looks to solve the game’s most important position. That means all options are on the table.

If Aaron Rodgers, Deshaun Watson, Russell Wilson, or any other high-profile veteran is made available, Washington should be the team that calls first.

Washington would pick No. 9 in NFL draft if season ended today

Washington would own the No. 9 overall pick in the 2022 NFL draft if the season ended today.

[mm-video type=playlist id=01eqbykgy681k112p8 player_id=none image=https://washingtonfootballwire.usatoday.com/wp-content/plugins/mm-video/images/playlist-icon.png]

It’s officially NFL draft season for Washington Football Team fans. Washington enters another November with a 2-5 record and dim playoff hopes. Sure, Washington was in a similar position last season, but the Dallas Cowboys are a different team in 2021.

It feels like every season, Washington is out of the playoff picture by the beginning of November, and fans are clamoring over the best quarterbacks in college football.

If the 2021 NFL season ended today, the Washington Football Team would pick No. 9 overall in the 2022 NFL draft.

That’s certainly high enough for Washington to land one of the draft’s projected top passers. However, there’s a lot of conjecture about the lack of high-end quarterback talent that will be available in the 2022 draft.

Washington will almost certainly be aggressive in the offseason as it pursues a quarterback. While some believe Washington will pursue a veteran, the team will study every available option in its latest attempt to find a legitimate starting quarterback.

Here is a look at the current draft order for the 2022 NFL draft, if the season ended today, per Tankathon.

1. Detroit Lions (0-7)
2. Philadelphia Eagles (via Dolphins, 1-6)
3. Houston Texans (1-6)
4. New York Jets (1-5)
5. Jacksonville Jaguars (1-5)
6. Philadelphia Eagles (2-5)
7. New York Giants (2-5)
8. New York Jets (via Seahawks, 2-5)
9. Washington Football Team (2-5)
10. Miami Dolphins (via 49ers, 2-4)
11. New England Patriots (3-4)
12. Denver Broncos (3-4)
13. Philadelphia Eagles (via Colts, 3-4)
14. Carolina Panthers (3-4)
15. New York Giants (via Bears 3-4)

Washington’s division rival, Philadelphia, would own three of the top 15 picks if the season ended today, thanks to trades with the Dolphins and Colts in the offseason. The Giants would own two of the top 15 picks.
