WATCH: Badger linebacker outlines a day at camp

Behind the scenes at Badger football camp

Luke Fickell and his Badgers just wrapped up their time at Platteville for their camp ahead of the 2023 season, but linebacker T.J Bollers outlined a day in the life of a Wisconsin football athlete at camp.

Bollers is entering his third season with the Badgers, second active, and he could be set for an increased role on defense. He appeared in 11 games last year, but he only recorded two tackles.

With Nick Herbig moving on to the NFL, Bollers along with fellow redshirt sophomore Darryl Peterson appear likely to operate as the top left outside linebacker options in Madison.

Mike Tressel will be in control of the defense in 2023 and the team will look to maintain their reputation as one of the best in the nation.

Five Badgers that boosted their stock during spring football practice

Five players that boosted their stock during spring football practice:

Spring football has officially come to a close for the Wisconsin Badgers, who wrapped up their spring evaluation period last Friday night.

Head coach Paul Chryst made a significant amount of changes along the coaching staff this offseason, so this initial installation period allowed those coaches their first real look at their respective position groups.

UW essentially has players competing for meaningful snaps at every position heading into fall camp. The offense lost six preferred starters from last season, while the nation’s top defensive unit needs to replace eight starters of their own in 2022.

Spring football is about trying new things, generating competition, and forcing players out of their comfort zones.

So, it’s important that fans understand no starting positions are going to be won in the spring. However, it can lead to additional opportunities once camp opens in the fall.

Today, we’re going to examine five players that boosted their stock during the Badgers 15 spring practices:

Wisconsin offers 2022’s No. 1 player from Iowa

The Wisconsin Badgers continued their flurry of class of 2022 offers yesterday when they extended one to four-star safety Xavier Nwankpa.

Nwankpa is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 92 player in the class of 2022, the No. 5 safety and the No. 1 recruit from his home state of Iowa.

Other schools to offer the four-star safety include Iowa, Iowa State, Missouri and Florida.

Chryst and company currently have one commit in their class of 2022–four-star safety Braelon Allen–so landing a commitment from Nwankpa when his recruiting process comes to a close would be massive for the program and would continue its recent run of recruiting success.

As we’ve seen a lot recently, it did not take long for Wisconsin commit T.J. Bollers to go to Twitter and start the inner-recruit recruiting push:

Even if there is no fall football season for the Big Ten the recruiting push will go on (hopefully) without a hitch, giving Badger fans at least something to follow and get excited about as they wait for the return of Wisconsin Badger and Big Ten football.

Two Ohio State commits react to Wisconsin recruit’s slam of Buckeye program

Two Ohio State commitments, Tunmise Adeleye and Evan Pryor fired back at Wisconsin recruit T.J. Bollers after slam of the program.

In case you missed it, things got a little heated on Twitter this past weekend. Ohio State commit Tunmise Adeleye made a comment about coming to grips with being a Clemson commit amid some of the socially charged protests around the confederate flag there. People jumped on it, including four-star Wisconsin commit T.J. Bollers.

A couple of Buckeye commitments for the 2021 class were quick to jump on Bollers’ poor judgment to pick a fight he wasn’t invited to. Both running back Evan Pryor and Jaylen Johnson weren’t going to let the slight go quietly into the scarlet and gray night.

Again, it probably wasn’t the best decision for Adelye to call out folks in and around Clemson, but it made absolutely no sense for Bollers to chime in.

First, for context, here was the original Tweet from Adeleye.

And the subsequent response from Bollers.

And now, the swift and succinct response from Pryor and Johnson.

As we mentioned before, this will be a fun backstory when they meet up on the football field. We’ll have to wait a while though. Not only do these commits have to finish their senior year of high school, but the teams also aren’t scheduled to play until November of 2022.

Of course the Badgers and Buckeyes could meet in Indy for the Big Ten Championship Game in 2021 for that to occur sooner. If so, we have a good feeling of what the outcome will be based on past history.

On Wisconsin?

Wisconsin recruit slams Ohio State football commit for choice of schools

Wisconsin commit T.J. Bollers slammed Ohio State recruit Tunmise Adelye for choosing the Buckeyes in response to his criticism of Clemson.

Everybody is a critic these days, especially in the politically charged environment we are all unfortunately in. Everyone seems to want to air grievances and dirty laundry out on social media.

And so it was Sunday when Ohio State commit Tunmise Adeleye trolled the Clemson program amid the public criticism it has gotten recently because of some perceived tone-deaf protests and stances on the social injustice in the world.

Adeleye, who is a four-star defensive end out of IMG Academy in Bradenton, FL, took to Twitter to sling mud at prospects that are currently committed to the Clemson program.

As expected, he got lit up by Tiger fans and followers, but it also stretched beyond that. In fact, four-star defensive end and Wisconsin commit T.J. Bollers also felt the need to weigh in by then slinging some vitriol towards the Ohio State program.

Look, far be it for anyone to criticize the perceived misgivings of other programs and communities out on Twitter. Adeleye most likely should have thought twice before lighting up the Tigers, and there’s no doubt Bollers should have refrained from responding out of emotion to a fight he wasn’t a part of.

You can bet this Tweet will be earmarked for a year or two down. If you are keeping score, the Badgers and Buckeyes are next set to matchup when these two are on the field on November 12, 2022, if they don’t meet up in the Big Ten Championship Game in 2021.

For now, there’s at least a year cooling-off period as both have a senior year of football to complete.
