Four-star defensive line recruit includes Auburn in top nine

Auburn continues to get looks as 2023 recruits narrow down their schools

Auburn is continuing to get looks in the Bryan Harsin era.

New Jersey defensive lineman Sydir Mitchell released his top nine schools on Sunday, and the Auburn Tigers made the cut. Mitchell is courting other SEC schools, however, including the likes of Georgia, Kentucky, Texas A&M, LSU and Tennessee.

Mitchell is among the 28 interior defensive linemen that Auburn has offered for the 2023 class, none of which have committed to the Plains just yet. Mitchell has great size and a good burst off the line, and Auburn would certainly benefit from his services as Bryan Harsin attempts to field a good squad for his vital 2022-23 campaign with the Tigers.

Despite a recent Auburn visit, Mitchell is still making the rounds to other schools before making his decision. He’s set to visit Georgia and then Texas A&M in the coming months, two recent recruiting powerhouses that have a tremendous amount of sway in the SEC.

Here’s the rundown on what Auburn can expect to get in Mitchell should he choose to come to the Plains:

Four-star Sydir Mitchell talks Rutgers football, spring visit and his upcoming officials

Sydir Mitchell talks about his recent Rutgers football visit and his upcoming official visits.

Sydir Mitchell is one of the most coveted players in New Jersey, the defensive tackle coming off a Friday visit to Rutgers football for the annual spring game.

Mitchell is a four-star in the 247Sports Composite. The 6-foot-5, 335-pound interior defensive lineman combines tremendous attributes of strength must also athleticism that will allow him to chase down ball carriers well beyond the line of scrimmage. He is the complete package as a defensive tackle.

The Bergen Catholic (Oradell, N.J.) prospect is ranked the fifth-best recruit in New Jersey according to 247Sports. Rivals has him as a four-star and the fourth-best player in New Jersey for the class of 2023 as well as the nation’s No. 15 defensive tackle.

In late March, Mitchell announced that he will participate in the Under Armour All-America Game.

In an interview on Sunday afternoon, Mitchell talked about the programs that likely will be getting an official visit. Mitchell likely won’t take an official visit to Rutgers given his familiarity with the program but he plans on taking an unofficial trip over the summer.

Mitchell is planning to drop his top 10 on Monday. It seems that Rutgers and several other top programs will make the cut.

He hopes to announce his college decision sometime in August.

What did Mitchell think of his visit to Rutgers football for the spring game? How is his relationship with Rutgers head coach [autotag]Greg Schiano[/autotag] and defensive line coach [autotag]Marquise Watso[/autotag]n? And what four programs are after him the hardest (spoiler alert…he says Rutgers, Georgia, Texas A&M and Auburn)? Are any officials set in stone for Mitchell? Auburn offers four-star defensive lineman Sydir Mitchell

Jimmy Brumbaugh offered four-star defensive tackle Sydir Mitchell earlier this week.

It is always recruiting season in the SEC and Auburn’s coaching staff is still hard at work recruiting despite spring practice rapidly approaching. Jimmy Brumbaugh offered four-star defensive tackle, Sydir Mitchell, earlier this week.

Mitchell is from Oradell, New Jersey but has offers from colleges all across the country. He has offers from Southern schools like FSU, Ole Miss, and more. He is also being courted from several West Coast schools like USC and Arizona State.

Mitchell projects best as a defensive tackle where he has the frame and strength to be a run stopper. With Auburn’s lack of depth along the trenches, Mitchell would be a nice addition for Auburn.
