Gina Torres reflects on role in ‘Suits’ reunion commercial during Super Bowl LVIII

Actress Gina Torres reflects on her ‘Suits’ reunion commercial during Super Bowl LVIII w/ @EdEastonJr

Over the weekend, Chiefs Wire’s Ed Easton Jr. spoke to accomplished actress Gina Torres at a remarkable and informative women’s empowerment brunch in Kansas City that was hosted by Donna Kelce in partnership with GSK’s THRIVE@50+ campaign.

In her interview with Easton Jr. on Saturday, Torres shared her thoughts on the GSK’s THRIVE@50+ campaign, the ongoing NFL playoffs, and an interesting connection that she has with the Kansas City Chiefs.

“I’m thrilled to be here as one of these incredible women on behalf of the GSK’s THRIVE@50+ campaign,” Torres said. “It’s just so important that women of a certain age show up and show out.”

Torres, an accomplished actor in both film and television, was joined by Brooke Shields, Rosalyn Sanchez, Alex Guarnaschelli, and other notable women at the event before the Chiefs’ divisional-round playoff matchup against the Houston Texans.

“It’s incredibly empowering,” Torres said of the event. “For so long, especially our generation of women, we were taught that we couldn’t all have a community. That there were so few of us that we couldn’t support each other because, in some way, it would detract from our power and ourselves. What we have all come to learn, which is fantastic, is that we are more powerful when we’re together.

“When we get to share our stories, when we don’t feel that we’re the only ones going through any particular thing. Whether it’s raising teenagers or menopause or just this incredible wisdom that you find, focusing on ourselves and our health and ensuring that we get the information that we need to thrive well into our 50s and beyond.”

Torres and the THRIVE@50+ crew joined Donna Kelce as she watched her son Travis cross another postseason milestone in the Chiefs’ victory over Houston. She shared her thoughts on the remaining teams competing in the playoffs.

“This is what I always say: if you get to this point, you’ve already won,” Torres explained. “Okay, it’s so impossible. I mean, the odds of getting to this stage as an athlete. I mean, everyone involved—everyone involved—has excellence inside of them, so that’s what I celebrate.”

The longtime ‘Suits’ star had a memorable cast reunion alongside Judge Judy for the Super Bowl LVIII commercial during Kansas City’s memorable championship matchup against the San Francisco 49ers. The experience of appearing in a Super Bowl commercial impacted Torres, who grew up watching the unique ads during the big game.

“I grew up watching Super Bowl commercials, never thinking I would be in one, and certainly not in the capacity I was, so that was great,” said Torres. “Meeting Judge Judy was incredible. And, of course, being reunited with my cast mates from Suits was a lot of fun.”

Torres’ most recent show ‘9-1-1: Lone Star’ ends next month after five seasons. She shared some closing thoughts about her experience as one of the program’s stars.

“Every show I move away from, I’ve gotten to spend a great deal of time with the cast. I mean, this cast, this crew, we are a crew and a family,” Torres said. “It’s sad, but we’re in each other’s lives, so we don’t get to see each other every day for 12 hours, but we do get to check up. I mean, babies have been born. There’s still a lot of laughter. Our text threads are very much alive. So I’m thrilled about that and thrilled that the audience received it in the way that it did.”

Hall of Fame LB Patrick Willis reflects on supporting 49ers during Super Bowl LVIII

@EdEastonJr spoke to PFHOF LB Patrick Willis about his support for the 49ers during San Francisco’s loss to the Chiefs in Super Bowl LVIII

This week, Chiefs Wire’s Ed Easton Jr. spoke to Pro Football Hall of Famer and former San Francisco 49ers linebacker Patrick Willis.

In his interview with Easton Jr., Willis—on behalf of Verizon—discussed the First-Ever Super Bowl FanFest, which will bring a Super Bowl LIX experience to 30 NFL cities across the country. He also reflected on the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl LVIII victory over the 49ers.

“The San Francisco 49ers are the only franchise I played for in the NFL, and they have the best fans in the world,” Willis said. “Maybe I am a little biased, but we have some of the best fans in the world, and anytime I have the opportunity to be with them, be around them, celebrate with them. It’s always a great time; we had some great times together. Even though I saw him during the season, a little bit more than usual, I’m looking forward to this event (Verizon’s Super Bowl FanFest) tremendously.”

Willis, who played his eight-year career with the 49ers from 2007-2014, reflected on last season’s Super Bowl run for San Francisco while being announced as a 2024 Pro Football Hall of Fame class member.

“I got chills; that was a special month, a special game, a special moment,” Willis explained. “Outside of being announced for induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, all while having the team that you know, blood, sweat, and tears for in the Super Bowl, it was an amazing time. I will say that, man, I thought it was just they were right there, you know, again. I know that feeling of just being that close. I thought maybe this would be the moment that play would happen, and the Niners would be able to win that sixth Super Bowl that put us, I think, put us right at the top, or with the top for most Super Bowl wins in NFL history. So it was a tough moment.”

The Chiefs won the thrilling game in overtime 25-22, with Patrick Mahomes connecting with Mecole Hardman for a touchdown, as Willis believes a key San Francisco injury affected the outcome.

“On top of that, I’m a big Dre Greenlaw and Fred Warner fan, and I think that seeing Dre have his injury, as he did at a pivotal time, was a big difference,” Willis said.I feel like things shifted a little bit when he went out of the game. It was unfortunate. But, man, it’s like that: you get that close and don’t get it done. Especially as you get older, it gets a little bit tougher each year to dig in again and go back at it. But they didn’t get it done. Unfortunately, they didn’t; as Deebo (Samuel) says, they had a Super Bowl hangover. So you know, this year didn’t go as go as well. Didn’t go well at all. They have a chance to bounce back this off-season and get some things right.”

Visit VerizonFanFest.com for a full list of events and locations and access to free tickets on a first-come, first-served basis. FanFests across the country will take place on Sunday, February 9, beginning at 4pm ET / 1pm PT.

Sony Michel reflects on Chiefs WR Mecole Hardman’s Super Bowl LVIII-winning catch

Sony Michel reflects on Kansas City #Chiefs wide receiver Mecole Hardman’s Super Bowl LVIII-winning catch w/ @EdEastonJr

This week, Chiefs Wire’s Ed Easton Jr. spoke to Georgia Bulldogs legend Sony Michel, who starred as one of the top running backs in the country from 2014 to 2017 before becoming a first-round NFL Draft pick.

In his interview with Easton Jr., Michel reveals that he teamed up with Kingsford last weekend to tailgate at his alma mater, the University of Georgia. The former Rose Bowl hero shared his thoughts on former college teammate and Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Mecole Hardman’s game-winning touchdown catch in Super Bowl LVIII.

“You may not win every game, but you can win every tailgate with Kingsford,” said Michel as he embraced the return to his alma mater, grilling with students in attendance for the Bulldogs’ victory over the Tennessee Volunteers while hosting the latest stop of the ‘Kingsford College Football Tailgate Tour.’

Michel and current Chiefs receiver Hardman were teammates for two seasons in Georgia. He maintains a friendship with the three-time Super Bowl champion and recalls watching the thrilling ending to last season’s Super Bowl.

“Him (Mecole Hardman) catching the game-winning touchdown. It was amazing to see you talking about a guy I’ve seen work since those college days, getting to see his hard work come to light right from the biggest stage,” said Michel. “I know what it feels like to score in those games, and it’s a wonderful feeling.”

“I was happy for him. The only thing that’s crazy, it sucks, like he’s got one up on me now. He has three Super Bowls; I have two. So that’s one of the conversations we have all the time, where it’s just like, Man, I can’t, I’m not coming out of retirement, to try to catch you. So, I’m super excited for him and how his career is going.”

49ers head coach denies impact of ‘Super Bowl hangover’ in rocky start

Super Bowl hangover? Kyle Shanahan isn’t buying it.

It’s easy to pick out reasons the San Francisco 49ers have stumbled through the first 10 weeks of the NFL season. What’s more difficult is pinpointing the why behind those reasons.

After all, the 49ers were a couple plays away from a Super Bowl victory in February, and now they’re 5-5 overall, last in the NFC West and No. 10 overall in the NFC.

One of the explanations commonly tossed out for the team’s issues this season is the dreaded ‘Super Bowl hangover’ teams experience after falling short at the league’s highest stage. Head coach Kyle Shanahan isn’t buying that big-picture explanation.

In a conference call with reporters Monday after the team’s Week 11 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, Shanahan instead pointed to controllable on-field issues the team had in their most recent defeat.

I don’t think there is an answer about a journey or Super Bowl hangover. I think it’s about what’s happening in that exact game. The week before was almost the same game. I think we went down 13 to 10 or something in the third. I think they came back and tied it up and we went down and won it on the last play. So, I don’t think that means we had a killer instinct in that game and not in this game. They took a lead 13 to 10 in the fourth quarter. We went on a 14-play drive and scored a touchdown and overcame a bunch of negative stuff on that drive and still took a 17 to 13 lead. Our defense held them on a fourth-and-one, I think with three and a half minutes to go. So I saw the killer instinct on both of those drives. And then we got to run out the clock on offense and we run three plays, get it down there in second-and-11. We missed a throw and catch, which I think would’ve got us in the red zone and allowed us to run out more clock, possibly the clock, but we didn’t make it and then they got us on the last drive. So we’ve got to play better on those two last drives. And it usually comes down to that in football. If you don’t want it to come down to that before that you’ve got to play pretty flawlessly to get up a couple scores before the end. But that’s why most games in this league do come down to the end and we got that done versus Tampa, but we didn’t get it done this week.

There’s some merit to this. There have been multiple times this season where better execution on one or two plays in a game would have flipped the outcome and had the 49ers sitting at something like 8-2 or 7-3 after 10 games.

However, through 11 weeks they’ve been plagued by different problems that have resulted in five losses. The spate of issues could be explained by the mental and physical fatigue that typically defines a ‘Super Bowl hangover.’

Perhaps Shanahan is correct and the team simply starts executing more effectively down the stretch and they make a run to the postseason. Until they do that though, we’ll be left looking for explanations in what’s been a subpar first 10 games.

Chiefs WR Mecole Hardman refuses to be known as a ‘forgotten receiver’

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Mecole Hardman refuses to be known as a ‘forgotten receiver’ | @EdEastonJr

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Mecole Hardman has proven himself a reliable option on the team. He earned Pro Bowl honors as a rookie and performed well in the most significant moments of the team’s successful run. He spoke with reporters on Wednesday about his role in the offense and possibly being the ‘forgotten receiver’ due to the arrival of DeAndre Hopkins.

“No, I don’t know. Man, I don’t really look at it like that. I think I’m more just; I’m always a guy of opportunity. I have always been like that since I got here, and that’s how I played that role. Whenever the opportunity comes or presents itself, just take advantage of it, no matter the circumstances.” said Hardman. “As far as a forgotten receiver. No, maybe they do. But, once I make a big play, they still know I’m there, you know, in a sense, but I’m just a guy whenever an opportunity presents itself, I just take advantage and just keep going like that.”

The three-time champion was the hero during Super Bowl LVIII, scoring the game-winning touchdown in overtime. This season, he’s been primarily utilized on special teams as the team’s top returner while appearing on several offensive sets in games. Hardman has nine catches for 75 yards and has a rushing touchdown on the season through nine weeks.

Trent McDuffie addresses media after Chiefs’ Week 7 win vs. 49ers

NFL reporter Darren Smith spoke to #Chiefs DB Trent McDuffie in the locker room after Kansas City’s Week 7 win over the San Francisco #49ers.

The Kansas City Chiefs remained undefeated this season after their epic 28-18 win against the San Fransisco 49ers in Week 7.

Star cornerback Trent McDuffie was a key part of the Chiefs’ defensive effort that held San Francisco’s offense, led by quarterback Brock Purdy, to only two touchdowns in the Super Bowl LVIII rematch.

His two tackles last night were both at critical moments in the game that helped lock in another win on the Chiefs’ quest to earn a third-consecutive Super Bowl championship.

McDuffie spoke to NFL reporter Darren Smith in Kansas City’s locker room after the Chiefs’ win over the 49ers, and gave some insight into his team’s latest victory.

Check out this video of McDuffies’s comments, which was posted to Twitter by Smith on Sunday evening:

Expect McDuffie to be among Kansas City’s most impactful playmakers when the Chiefs travel to face the Las Vegas Raiders in a Week 8 AFC West showdown on October 27.

Final score: Chiefs defeat 49ers 28-18 in Week 7 Super Bowl LVIII rematch

The Kansas City #Chiefs beat the San Francisco #49ers 28-18 in a Week 7 Super Bowl LVIII rematch to keep their undefeated record intact.

The Kansas City Chiefs kept their undefeated record intact against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 7, winning the Super Bowl LVIII rematch 28-18 at Levi’s Stadium.

Kansas City’s offense struggled against San Francisco’s impressive defensive unit throughout the game, but reigning Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes managed to keep the Chiefs in the lead when it mattered most.

Mahomes ended the game with 154 passing yards on 16 completions, but he threw two interceptions that helped keep the 49ers in the game.

On defense, Kansas City was led by rookie defensive backs Jaden Hicks and Chris Roland-Wallace, who both came down with interceptions against Brock Purdy.

Now 6-0, the Chiefs are the last undefeated team in the NFL ahead of their Week 8 matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Stay tuned to see if Kansas City can build on this win as the Chiefs strive to win their third consecutive Super Bowl title this season.

Injuries are a major concern for San Francisco, and with a deluge of players dealing with different ailments, the 49ers are set to be at a major disadvantage against Kansas City on Sunday.

Chiefs LB Nick Bolton describes George Kittle’s impact: ‘He’s a huge matchup problem’

Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Nick Bolton describes George Kittle’s impact: ‘He’s a huge matchup problem’ | @EdEastonJr

Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Nick Bolton spoke to the media on Friday, revealing his thoughts on San Francisco 49ers star tight end George Kittle.

“He’s a huge matchup problem,” said Bolton. “He’s bigger than most safeties and faster than most linebackers.”

The Chiefs last faced off against Kittle and the 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII, where the defense held the Pro Bowler below his typical production. Kittle only managed two catches for 4 yards and left momentarily with an injury in the Kansas City victory.

“We have to mix our matchups up on him,” said Bolton, “Put some hands on him when we can, disrupt his timing, and hopefully can frustrate him a little bit as the game progresses, but I think it’s going to be different matchups, different guys get on him a little bit, try to rough him up when we can, and then ultimately just make them make tight throws and live to play another down.”

The Chiefs’ defense has held opponents late in games to close victories, contributing to the undefeated start. Bolton has 38 tackles heading into Week 7 feeling healthier after the bye week.

Chiefs vs. 49ers Week 7: How to watch, listen and stream

Check out everything you need to know to watch the #Chiefs face the #49ers in a Super Bowl LVIII rematch this weekend.

The Kansas City Chiefs are fresh off a bye in Week 6 and are headed to California to face the San Francisco 49ers in a Super Bowl LVIII rematch this weekend.

With star wide receiver Rashee Rice on injured reserve, other members of Kansas City’s receiving corps, especially rookie wideout Xavier Worthy, will have to step up to help Patrick Mahomes in the passing game.

Despite the 49ers’ loss of superstar running back Christian McCaffrey, San Francisco remains one of the better teams in the NFL and could be the team to hand the Chiefs their first loss of the season.

Expect Mahomes to spread the ball around as Kansas City looks to remain undefeated.
