Commanders announce corporate partnership with Verizon

It’s the first under new ownership as Verizon will be the official 5G network of the Washington Commanders.

Things are looking up for the Washington Commanders. Last month, a group led by Josh Harris was approved by the NFL as the new owners of the franchise after 24 years of Daniel Snyder.

Now, the Commanders have announced their first corporate partnership under the new ownership group. The Commanders and Verizon agreed on a partnership that would make Verizon the “official 5G network of the Washington Commanders.”

Washington president Jason Wright released the following statement:

We’re excited to have Verizon join us in this new chapter of Washington Commanders football. Football is back in the DMV, and Verizon will help improve the experience at FedExField for fans, players and coaches. We are thrilled to welcome Verizon as an official partner of the team.

Chris Flood, Atlantic North Market President for Verizon, said the following:

As a new corporate partner supporting the Washington Commanders, we look forward to providing technology solutions that will improve the experience for fans on and off the field and ensure reliable communications for game day operations and personnel. This is an exciting new chapter in Commanders history and we are excited to be a part of it in a big way.

It’s been a whirlwind month for Harris, who agreed to buy Washington for $6.05 billion. He’s been treated as a hero by Washington fans, appeared at multiple training camp practices to take pictures and sign autographs with fans and continues to say all the right things about turning the franchise around.

Fans are excited, and it’s showing. The Commanders have already surpassed all ticket and suite revenue from last season, and the 2023 season hasn’t even begun.

The partnership with Verizon will lead to improvements at FedEx Field, something Harris has mentioned as an immediate priority. It’s the first sponsorship deal with a mobile carrier for the Commanders in years.

It should come as no surprise to learn that Team Penske has extended the contract for its reigning NTT IndyCar Series champion. At 42, Will Power is set to continue in the No. 12 Chevy, along with longtime sponsor Verizon, as both have recently committed to multi-year extensions.

Previously unannounced, the team confirmed to RACER that Power’s presence will be seen and felt on the IndyCar grid for years to come — believed to be through at least 2025 — as the defending series champions pursue another title with the Australian and teammates Josef Newgarden and Scott McLaughlin.

Power’s American journey began late in 2005 with Team Australia in the former Champ Car series and returned for his full-time debut the following season where he earned the first pole position of his career on the way to placing sixth in the standings. A pair of breakthrough victories and five more poles were added with Team Australia in 2007, and with Champ Car’s demise after the Long Beach round in 2008—a race he won—Power made the switch to today’s IndyCar Series with KV Racing Technology, the team behind Team Australia.

Since 2009, the rest of Power’s time in IndyCar has been spent behind the wheel of Team Penske entries where two championships in 2014 and 2022 have been earned along with his victory at the 2018 Indianapolis 500. Along with his most recent IndyCar crown, Power also surpassed Mario Andretti as IndyCar’s greatest qualifier after securing his 68th pole at the 2022 season finale in Monterey. The veteran also ranks fifth on IndyCar’s all-time win list with 41, one behind 1991 CART IndyCar Series champion Michael Andretti.

Super Bowl Commercial Rewind: Extended cut of Verizon’s ‘Goodbye Cable’ with Jim Carrey (plus a Karaoke jam)

Verizon’s ‘Goodbye Cable’ found the perfect nostalgic fit. Take a look!

True Jim Carrey fans recognized where Verizon was going with their Super Bowl 56 commercial.

The nationally-known communications company used their ad spot during the big game to tease some pretty cool technology—a new wave of products that are completely wireless.

Verizon 5G wideband services allow homes and businesses to connect to the world without cable. Carrey, dusting off his character from the 1996 cult film “The Cable Guy,” is simply blown away by the advancement.

Carrey… or “Chip” as he’s known in the flick, then runs around the apartment trying to make sense of the “no cable” aspect.

Falling right back into the humorous and nutty type of character that Carrey typically portraits, he searches for the answers to his own questions… no physical wires? Difficult installation? Bad reception?

Nope to all, and Carrey gets that message across in a comical way which made Verizon’s spot a hit. The 5.82 overall Ad Meter rating it received put the commercial amongst the highest-rated ads from Sunday, finishing 15 out of 64.
