All 32 starting NFL quarterbacks, ranked oldest to youngest

Broncos QB Bo Nix (24) is the seventh-youngest starting quarterback in the NFL.

Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix entered the NFL this spring as a 24-year-old rookie after spending five years in college.

He’s older than a typical rookie, but Nix still ranks among the youngest starting quarterbacks in the NFL going into his first season.

Of the six QBs younger than Nix, three are rookies. Bryce Young (23), Jayden Daniels (23; rookie), C.J. Stroud (23), Caleb Williams (23; rookie), Anthony Richardson (22) and Drake Maye (22; rookie) are the youngest starting QBs in the league.

J.J. McCarthy (21) would have had a chance to become the NFL’s youngest starter this year, but he’s out for the season with a torn meniscus.

Aaron Rodgers (41) is the oldest quarterback in the league, with Kirk Cousins (36), Matthew Stafford (36) and Russell Wilson (36) behind him.

Up next are Geno Smith (34), Derek Carr (33) and Dak Prescott (31).

We’ve listed the ages of all 32 starting quarterbacks below with parentheses providing context of younger QBs waiting in the wings.

The last 31 opening day quarterbacks for Nebraska

Take a trip down memory lane!!

With the recent news that the Nebraska Cornhuskers will start true freshman Dylan Raiola at quarterback when the season opens on August 31, it’s time to take a trip down memory lane and look back at the history of Nebraska’s starting quarterbacks.

The Huskers have a long line of memorable starting quarterbacks. The program features QBs that have won the Heisman, the Walter Camp Trophy, the Davey O’Brien Award, and the Johnny Unitas Award.

There were a few names I had forgotten were once starters for the Huskers, but the list contains a few memorable players and Nebraska football legends.

Scroll below and take a look at Nebraska’s starting quarterback history.

Nebraska’s offensive coordinator gives his thoughts on the quarterbacks

New offensive coordinator Mark Whipple gave his thoughts on this year’s crop of quarterbacks.

New Nebraska offensive coordinator and quarterback coach Mark Whipple made an appearance on the Husker Radio Network last night to answer various questions about the new scheme, preparations for the opener in Dublin, and the progress of the quarterback room. It was back in December when Scott Frost relinquished play-calling responsibility to hire Whipple, who had spent the last three years as the coordinator for the Pitt Panthers. Last season, he helped Pitt win the 2021 ACC title and led the team to a top ten ranking nationally in scoring offense, passing offense, and total offense. As the quarterback coach, he led Kenny Pickett to the 2021 Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award and a first-team All-American selection.

Whipple has 40+ years of head and assistant coaching experience in both the college and professional ranks. The New York native has been a head coach at three different schools (New Haven 1988-93, Brown 1994-97, UMass 1998-2003, 2014-2018), amassing a 137-103 record and winning the 1993 Division 1-AA Championship (now the FCS division). Nebraska is the fifth offensive coordinator stop for Whipple as he has previously called plays at Union (1981-82), New Hampshire (1986-87), Miami (2009-2010), and Pittsburgh (2019-2021). He also won a Super Bowl as a quarterback coach for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Whipple is a pass-first play-caller known for building around his quarterback and adjusting his offense to best utilize the talent on the field instead of forcing players to fit into a specific scheme. He was one of two finalists for the position in Lincoln when Frost announced he would no longer call plays. Whipple beat out former Texas Tech quarterback Graham Harrell who had just been released at USC. After missing out on the Husker job, Harrell ended up in West Virginia as the offensive coordinator and quarterback coach for the Mountaineers.

During last night’s radio appearance, Whipple discussed the quarterback room headed into this season and gave a detailed analysis of each scholarship signal-caller. Scroll below to see his comments.

What quarterbacks will Nebraska face in 2022?

The Huskers will see a talented slate of quarterbacks in 2022!

The Nebraska Cornhuskers will face a diverse lineup of quarterbacks in 2022. First, the Huskers will be breaking in a new starting quarterback in former Texas signal-caller Casey Thompson. And Nebraska is not alone in using a transfer quarterback. The transfer quarterback was a rarity in college football but not any longer. Four of the twelve quarterbacks Nebraska will face in 2022 are first-year transfers. And if you take a deeper look at the roster of QBs, six of the 12 quarterbacks the Cornhuskers will face in 2022 are transfers not at their original school of commitment.

The transfer rules in college football will likely change in some way, shape, or form in the near future. What those new rules will look like and how they curb the recent wave of transfers in college football is unknown. But be prepared as the college football world will be undergoing more changes after 2022.

Take a look below at the 12 projected starting quarterbacks Nebraska will face this upcoming season. The list includes old faces and new, as well as a former Husker who will get a rematch against his old team. So get ready, the season opener is less than 60-days away.

Every Alabama football season-opening starting quarterback for the last 20 years

Revisit all the quarterbacks who started in the Crimson Tide’s season-opening games over the last 20 years!

Alabama football fell just short of the national championship last season, but there’s good reason to expect them to make another run for title No. 19 in 2022. For starters, the Crimson Tide will get back quarterback [autotag]Bryce Young[/autotag] for at least one more season.

Young was a first-year starter in 2021 as a sophomore with the program. Some had questioned whether he would be able to follow up the likes of those who came before him: Mac Jones, Tua Tagovailoa and Jalen Hurts.

The young quarterback responded in the best way possible. He won the Heisman Trophy.

With Young being the clear and undisputed starting quarterback for 2022, let’s go back in time and revisit the last 20 season-opening quarterbacks for the Crimson Tide.

8. AFC East

Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports

The AFC East took a huge hit this week when Tom Brady left the Patriots for Tampa Bay. That leaves you with Josh Allen in Buffalo, veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick in Miami, Sam Darnold in New York and, for the time being, Jarrett Stidham in New England. The Patriots could add a veteran arm rather than go with Stidham. That won’t erase the deficit created by Brady’s exit.
