Washington Nationals at St. Louis Cardinals odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Washington Nationals at St. Louis Cardinals odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Washington Nationals (47-56) take on the St. Louis Cardinals (53-49) Friday in the opener of a 3-game set at Busch Stadium at 8:15 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Nationals vs. Cardinals odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Cardinals lead 3-1

The Nats were swept by the San Diego Padres in a 3-game series that ended with RHP Dylan Cease no-hitting them in a 3-0 setback Thursday. This is on the heels of the Nats sweeping a 3-game series over the Cincinnati Reds. The one to watch is OF Jesse Winker. He is hitting .352 with 11 homers and 34 RBIs in 241 career at-bats against the Cardinals. That improves to .379-7-17 in 95 ABs at Busch.

The Cardinals followed up a dramatic 2-1 win over stud RHP Paul Skenes with a half-hearted 5-0 loss Wednesday. They outhit the Pittsburgh Pirates, drew 9 walks and could not score a run, which is hard to fathom. The Cards are dreadful against lefties at .223/.288/.335 BA/OBP/SLG.

Nationals at Cardinals projected starters

LHP MacKenzie Gore vs. RHP Sonny Gray

Gore (6-8, 4.20 ERA) makes his 21st start. He has a 1.46 WHIP, 3.7 BB/9 and 10.5 K/9 through 100 2/3 innings.

  • Last start: No-decision, 2 IP, 3 ER, 2 H, 4 BB, 2 K in 5-4 home win Saturday against Cincinnati Reds
  • 2 career starts vs. Cardinals: 0-1, 9.64 ERA, 2.36 WHIP, 7 BB, 13 K in 9 1/3 IP
  • July 6 vs. St. Louis: No-decision, 3 1/3 IP, 5 ER, 6 H, 5 BB, 5 K in 14-6 home win

Gray (10-6, 3.54 ERA) makes his 19th start. He has a 1.06 WHIP, 2.0 BB/9 and 11.1 K/9 through 106 2/3 innings.

  • Last start: Win, 7 IP, 5 ER, 8 H, 0 BB, 10 K in 9-5 victory Saturday at Atlanta Braves
  • Last start vs. Nationals: No-decision, 5 IP, 5 ER, 8 H, 1 BB, 6 K in 7-6 road win in 11 innings July 5
  • Last 5 starts vs. Nats: 2-1, 4.68 ERA, 1.36 WHIP, 25 K in 25 IP

  • Run line (RL)/Against the spread (ATS): Nationals +1.5 (-140) | Cardinals -1.5 (+115)

Nationals at Cardinals picks and predictions

Prediction

Cardinals 5, Nationals 3

Moneyline

The Cards are bad against lefties, but they have seen Gore well. They had an off-day Thursday to recharge, and there’s no reason they should drop this game. They also dropped out of the 3rd Wild Card spot, and things have become urgent.

That said, -175 is too expensive for how inconsistent they are. Instead, SGP CARDINALS ML AND SONNY GRAY OVER 5.5 K’S (+145). Gray fanned 6 Nats July 5 and has 6+ K’s in 6 of 7 GS.

Run line/Against the spread

The Cardinals play entirely too many 1-run games to trust them on the RL. They are 19-14 in 1-run affairs. PASS, and devote your attention elsewhere.

Remember that dominance Winker has displayed against St. Louis? Take JESSE WINKER OVER 1.5 H+R+RBI (+125). He’s 3-for-6 lifetime against Gray.

Over/Under

It’s slated to be a humid, 82-degree evening with a light breeze blowing left-to-right. The Nats are 5-5 O/U, and the Cards are 4-6 O/U in their last 10. The Over is 8-2 in the last 10 meetings, though.

Gore has pitched against St. Louis twice and gave up 5 ER in each start. I look for the OVER 7.5 (-115) to cash.

St. Louis Cardinals at Pittsburgh Pirates odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s St. Louis Cardinals at Pittsburgh Pirates odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The St. Louis Cardinals (52-48) take on the Pittsburgh Pirates (51-49) Tuesday in the 2nd game of a 3-game set at PNC Park at 6:40 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Cardinals vs. Pirates odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Cardinals lead 4-3

The Cards dropped Monday’s series opener 2-1 after a weak spot in their bullpen was exposed in the 8th inning. Three hits in the bottom of the 8th did them in, coupled with an inability to drive runs in. The lone run they got was 2B Nolan Gorman smoking one off the right field foul pole for his 19th of the season. The Cards are just 4-6 over their last 10 games.

The Pirates continue their surge, winners of 8 of 10 to pull within a game of St. Louis for 2nd in the division. OF Bryan Reynolds is hitting .349 with 2 homers and 7 RBIs over the last 15 days. The Bucs are feeling good about this one with stud RHP Paul Skenes on the mound.

Cardinals at Pirates projected starters

RHP Lance Lynn vs. RHP Paul Skenes

Lynn (5-4, 4.39 ERA) makes his 20th start. He has a 1.39 WHIP, 3.5 BB/9 and 8.6 K/9 through 96 1/3 innings.

  • Last start: Win, 6 IP, 2 ER, 5 H, 2 BB, 6 K in 11-3 home victory July 13 against Chicago Cubs
  • June 13 vs. Pirates: No-decision, 4 1/3 IP, 3 ER, 4 H, 3 BB, 5 K in 4-3 home win
  • Last 5 starts vs. Pirates: 1-3, 9.86 ERA, 1,95 WHIP, 15 K in 21 IP

Skenes (6-0, 1.90 ERA) makes his 12th start. He has a 0.92 WHIP, 1.8 BB/9 and 12.1 K/9 through 66 1/3 innings.

  • Last start: Win, 7 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 1 BB, 11 K in 1-0 victory July 11 at Milwaukee Brewers
  • June 11 vs. St. Louis: No-decision, 6 1/3 IP, 0 ER, 5 H, 0 BB, 8 K in 2-1 road win

Who’s going yard? Here’s a breakdown of today’s best home run props with our top picks. Include the BetMGM bonus code SBWIRE to score a $1,500 first-bet offer.

Cardinals at Pirates picks and predictions

Prediction

Cardinals 4, Pirates 3

Moneyline

If the Cards were to get to Skenes, the right time is now. He pitched an inning in the All-Star Game, but his last start was 12 days ago. What happens when power pitchers get too much rest? They have a tendency to leave it up in the zone. He has been fighting his control a little lately, too, with 2 walks in 2 of his last 3 starts.

Furthermore, the Pirates used their top 2 arms in the bullpen in Aroldis Chapman and David Bednar Monday, while the Cards used expendable arms. This is an important game, and if you’re going to give us +150, let’s take a shot. Take the CARDINALS +150.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Run line/Against the spread

The Cards are priced within range in the instance they can’t get it done. They lost Skenes’ first start against them 2-1. And as mentioned, the Pirates’ pen aces would be going on back-to-back days.

Take the CARDINALS +1.5 (-140).

Over/Under

The Under is 5-2 in the 7 games these teams have faced off in this year. The Cards are 6-4 O/U in their last 10, and the Pirates are 4-6. The big question is whether Lynn can keep the ball in the yard. The wind is blowing right-to-left at 5 mph, and it doesn’t appear to be a big factor.

LEAN UNDER 7.5 (-105).

St. Louis Cardinals at Pittsburgh Pirates odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s St. Louis Cardinals at Pittsburgh Pirates odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The St. Louis Cardinals (52-47) take on the Pittsburgh Pirates (50-49) Monday in the opener of a 3-game set at PNC Park at 6:40 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Cardinals vs. Pirates odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Cardinals lead 4-2

With a 6-2 win Sunday, the Cards took 2 of 3 from the Atlanta Braves on the road. They could have easily swept the series, but the bullpen faltered in Game 1 of a doubleheader Saturday. The offense is clicking. They hit 4 homers Sunday and 7 in the 3-game series — including round-trippers from struggling 1B Paul Goldschmidt and 3B Nolan Arenado. Emerging OF Alec Burleson went 6-for-13 (.462) with 6 RBIs in the series.

The Pirates took 2 of 3 at home from the Philadelphia Phillies over the weekend. They dropped Sunday’s game 6-0, though, which snapped a 6-game winning streak. The Bucs are 8-2 over their last 10. OF Bryan Reynolds is 11-for-19 (.579) with 1 homer and 5 RBIs in his last 5 games.

Cardinals at Pirates projected starters

RHP Andre Pallante vs. RHP Mitch Keller

Pallante (4-4, 4.21 ERA) makes his 9th start and 18th appearance. He has a 1.38 WHIP, 3.3 BB/9 and 7.2 K/9 through 51 1/3 innings.

  • Last start: Loss, 6 1/3 IP, 4 ER, 6 H, 0 BB, 5 K in 6-4 home setback July 10 against Kansas City Royals
  • In 8 starts this season: 4-3, 3.70 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, 7.6 K/9 vs. 0-1, 6.30 ERA, 1.90 WHIP, 5.4 K/9 in 9 relief outings
  • 1 career start vs. Pittsburgh: No-decision, 7 IP, 1 ER, 4 H, 1 BB, 5 K in 3-2 road win in 10 innings July 4

Keller (10-5, 3.46 ERA) makes his 20th start. He has a 1.25 WHIP, 2.4 BB/9 and 8.3 K/9 through 114 1/3 innings.

  • Last start: No-decision, 3 IP, 2 ER, 4 H, 3 BB, 3 K in 9-4 win July 14 at Chicago White Sox
  • 2 starts vs. St. Louis this season: 0-2, 7.36 ERA, 1.55 WHIP, 9 K in 11 IP
  • Career vs. Cardinals: 2-3, 3.97 ERA, 1.31 WHIP, 7.3 K/9 in 12 starts

Who’s going yard? Here’s a breakdown of today’s best home run props with our top picks. Include the BetMGM bonus code SBWIRE to score a $1,500 first-bet offer.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

Cardinals at Pirates picks and predictions

Prediction

Cardinals 4, Pirates 3

Moneyline

The Birds are flyin’ high after their road series win in Atlanta. With stud RHP Paul Skenes pitching Tuesday, they will throw everything on the table to win this game. Keller is a very good pitcher, but for whatever reason, the Cards have his number.

Take the CARDINALS +105.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Run line/Against the spread

I’m targeting Cardinals OF Lars Nootbaar here. Noot hit safely in all 3 games over the weekend and is 4-for-10 (.400) with a homer. He also hits Keller well with a .417 BA and 1 homer in 17 career at-bats. Take LARS NOOTBAAR OVER 1.5 H+R+RBI (+100).

Over/Under

It’s slated to be a humid 73-degree evening with a 5-mph breeze blowing in. The Under is 4-2 in the 6 meetings this season. One of those Overs cashed with Keller on the mound, and it has cashed in his last 4 starts. I think he’ll make an adjustment, though, and I’ll take the UNDER 8.5 (-115).

St. Louis Cardinals at Atlanta Braves odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s St. Louis Cardinals at Atlanta Braves odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The St. Louis Cardinals (51-47) and Atlanta Braves (54-43) meet Sunday for the finale of a 4-game series. First pitch from Truist Park is set for 1:35 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Cardinals vs. Braves odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: St. Louis leads 3-2

Atlanta beat St. Louis 3-2 in 10 innings in game 1 of a doubleheader Saturday while covering as a -134 home favorite. 2B Ozzie Albies hit the walk off sacrifice fly to give the Braves the win.

St. Louis picked up a 9-5 win in Game 2 of Saturday’s doubleheader while covering as a -120 road favorite. The Cardinals scored 3 runs in the 9th to cushion their lead and survive a comeback attempt by the Braves.

Cardinals at Braves projected starters

RHP Miles Mikolas vs. RHP Spencer Schwellenbach

Mikolas (7-8, 5.13 ERA) makes his 21st start. He has a 1.22 WHIP, 1.4 BB/9 and 6.2 K/9 in 112 1/3 IP.

  • Last start: Loss, 5 1/3 IP, 6 ER, 8 H, 0 BB, 2 K in an 8-3 loss vs. Chicago Cubs Sunday
  • Career vs. Atlanta: 2-4, 3.89 ERA (39 1/3 IP, 17 ER), 41 H, 9 BB, 28 K in 7 appearances (6 starts)

Schwellenbach (3-4, 4.43 ERA) makes his 9th start. The rookie has a 1.16 WHIP, 2.0 BB/9 and 8.3 K/9 in 44 2/3 IP.

  • Last start: Win, 7 IP, 1 ER, 3 H, 1 BB, 3 K in a 6-1 win at San Diego Padres on July 12
  • Career vs. St. Louis: 0-1, 7.20 ERA (5 IP, 4 ER), 8 H, 0 BB, 6 K in 1 start

Cardinals at Braves odds

  • Moneyline (ML): Cardinals +132 (bet $100 to win $132) | Braves -156 (bet $156 to win $100)
  • Run line (RL)/Against the spread (ATS): Cardinals +1.5 (-166) | Braves -1.5 (+138)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 8.5 (O: -122 | U: +100)

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

Cardinals at Braves picks and predictions

Prediction

Cardinals 6, Braves 3

Moneyline

LEAN CARDINALS (+132).

St. Louis is 3-1 in its last 4 games and is 2-1 in its last 3 matchups vs. Atlanta. The Cardinals are also 3-2 in their last 5 meetings with the Braves in Atlanta.

This is a lean because the Braves are 6-4 in their last 10 overall while the Cardinals are 5-5 over that span and the teams have split their last 10 meetings.

Run line/Against the spread

PASS.

I like the Cardinals to cover here as +1.5 (-166) underdogs because of how well they have played the Braves this season, but with the line set so heavily they are not worth the risk of betting on here. Bet on the plu moneyline and/or total instead.

Over/Under

BET OVER 8.5 (-122).

The Over has hit in 4 of St. Louis’ last 5 overall and is 7-3 in its last 10 outings. For Atlanta, the Over is 2-1 in its last 3 games. The Over has also hit in 4 of the last 5 meetings in Atlanta.

St. Louis Cardinals at Atlanta Braves Game 2 odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s St. Louis Cardinals at Atlanta Braves odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The St. Louis Cardinals (50-46) take on the Atlanta Braves (53-42) Saturday in the 2nd game of a 3-game set at Truist Park at 7:20 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Cardinals vs. Braves odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Cardinals lead 2-1

These teams were rained out Friday night, and this will be the nightcap of a doubleheader. The 1st game was not finalized at press time.

The Cards went 2-4 in their final 6 games before the All-Star break, as they were clearly running on fumes. They went 18-12 in 1-run games before the break, and their pen was taxed. OF Alec Burleson has emerged, as he has raked with a .340 BA, 5 homers and 15 RBIs in 53 July at-bats thus far.

The Braves went 3-3 in the final 6 games before the break. DH Marcell Ozuna continues to power the Bravos with a .359 clip, 5 homers and 10 RBIs the last 10 games. The Cards took 2 of 3 against Atlanta in St. Louis, but the Braves are great at home at 29-17.

Cardinals at Braves projected starters

RHP Sonny Gray vs. RHP Bryce Elder

Gray (9-6, 3.34 ERA) makes his 18th start. He has a 1.05 WHIP, 2.2 BB/9 and 10.9 K/9 through 99 2/3 innings.

  • Last start: Loss, 7 IP, 3 ER, 9 H, 0 BB, 6 K in 5-1 home defeat July 12 against Chicago Cubs
  • Last 5 starts vs. Braves: 0-2, 2.81 ERA, 0.97 WHIP, 33 K in 32 IP

Elder (1-3, 5.71 ERA) makes his 8th start. He has a 1.62 WHIP, 3.4 BB/9 and 6.2 K/9 through 34 2/3 innings.

  • Last start: No-decision, 5 IP, 3 ER, 4 H, 2 BB, 1 K in 5-4 win in 11 innings at Arizona Diamondbacks July 8
  • 2 career starts vs. Cardinals: 1-1, 1.50 ERA, 0.75 WHIP, 10 K in 12 IP
  • June 26 at St. Louis: Loss, 6 IP, 2 ER, 4 H, 0 BB, 4 K in 4-1 setback

Who’s going yard? Here’s a breakdown of today’s best home run props with our top picks. Include the BetMGM bonus code SBWIRE to score a $1,500 first-bet offer.

Cardinals at Braves odds

  • Moneyline (ML): Cardinals -110 (bet $110 to win $100) | Braves -110 (bet $110 to win $100)
  • Run line (RL)/Against the spread (ATS): Cardinals -1.5 (+145) | Braves +1.5 (-180)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 8.5 (O: -105 | U: -115)

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

Cardinals at Braves picks and predictions

Prediction

Cardinals 4, Braves 3

Moneyline

There is still rain in the forecast for this one, so keep that in mind when placing wagers.

The Braves are tough at home, and I think the Cards get 1 game in this series. That will be right here. They had a close call Friday night as some of their players had travel issues and may not have gotten to Atlanta on time. One of those players was All-Star closer Ryan Helsley. He’ll be rested and ready for a save chance.

Take the CARDINALS -110.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Run line/Against the spread

Player props were pretty limited at press time with the double-dip Saturday, and I don’t like either side of the RL.

PASS.

Over/Under

As mentioned, it could be a wet evening with a light 3.4-mph breeze blowing in. In what could be a long day with rain delays, I like the UNDER 8.5 (-115).

Elder was solid against the Cards last month, and the Braves are just 4-5-1 O/U in their last 10.

Cardinals at Braves picks and predictions

Prediction

Braves 5, Cardinals 3

Moneyline

This game could have issues because there is a 73% chance of rain at gametime, and it lingers throughout the evening. Keep that in mind when wagering.

That said, I like the Braves here. Gray has given up 23 hits in 16 1/3 IP over his last 3 starts, and he has allowed 11 ER in the process. Schwellenbach got touched up in his previous start in St. Louis, but the Braves are very tough at home.

Take the BRAVES -135.

I like ALEC BURLESON OVER 1.5 H+R+RBI (-135). He went 2-for-2 with an RBI double against Schwellenbach in his June start against St. Louis.

As mentioned, it could be a wet evening with a light 2-mph breeze blowing in. With the way Gray has been hit of late, and the Cards’ success against Schwellenbach, I’m taking the OVER 7.5 (-105). The Cards are 8-2 O/U in their last 10, and the Braves are 4-5-1

Chicago Cubs at St. Louis Cardinals odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Chicago Cubs at St. Louis Cardinals odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Chicago Cubs (46-51) and St. Louis Cardinals (50-45) wrap up a 4-game series Sunday at Busch Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 2:15 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Cubs vs. Cardinals odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: St. Louis leads 6-2

Thanks to a postponed game on May 24, Saturday was a busy day for these teams.

In Game 1 of their Saturday doubleheader, the Cardinals pulled away almost immediately and won 11-3. St. Louis scored 9 runs in the 1st inning, although only 4 runs were earned, as Cubs RHP Hayden Wesneski had 2 errors. Seven Cardinals recorded an RBI.

St. Louis won 5-4 in Game 2 despite the Cubs scoring 4 runs in the 2nd inning and leading 4-3 for a majority of the game. Cardinals 3B Nolan Arenado helped St. Louis sweep the doubleheader with a a go-ahead 2-run single in the 8th inning.

Cubs at Cardinals projected starters

RHP Jameson Taillon vs. RHP Miles Mikolas

Taillon (6-4, 2.99 ERA) makes his 16th start. He has a 1.15 WHIP, 1.9 BB/9 and 7.4 K/9 in 87 1/3 IP.

  • Last start: Win, 6 IP, 2 ER, 4 H, 1 BB, 7 K in 9-2 victory at Baltimore Orioles Tuesday
  • 2024 road splits: 1-2, 3.07 ERA (41 IP, 14 ER), 1.14 WHIP, 5.9 K/9 in 7 starts
  • Career vs. Cardinals: 5-2, 3.36 ERA (80 1/3 IP, 30 ER), 1.19 WHIP, 8.1 K/9 in 14 starts

Mikolas (7-7, 4.88 ERA) makes his 20th start. He has a 1.20 WHIP, 1.5 BB/9 and 6.3 K/9 in 107 IP.

  • Last start: Win, 6 1/3 IP, 0 R, 6 H, 0 BB, 3 K in 6-0 road win against Washington Nationals Monday
  • 2024 home splits: 1-3, 6.18 ERA (43 2/3 IP, 30 ER), 1.32 WHIP, 6.4 K/9 in 8 starts
  • Career vs. Cubs: 6-4, 2.62 ERA (110 IP, 32 ER), 1.16 WHIP, 6.8 K/9 in 21 appearances (19 starts)

Cubs at Cardinals picks and predictions

Prediction

Cubs 7, Cardinals 4

Moneyline

The CUBS (+115) are 28-22 (56%) after a loss. The Cardinals are 15-16 (48.4%) as home favorites, the 5th-worst record in MLB.

Plus Mikolas has struggled at home this season, posting a 6.18 ERA.

BET CUBS (+115).

Run line/Against the spread

While I like Chicago for Sunday’s game, picking it at +1.5 just doesn’t give you the value. Also, the Cubs haven’t had back-to-back 1-run games since mid-June.

PASS.

Over/Under

St. Louis is a top-5 Over team after a win, with a 28-20-1 (58.3%) record. And as a favorite, it posts an even better Over percentage at 60.9% (28-18).

In July, the Cardinals have cashed the Over in 9 of their 12 games, while the Cubs are 6-6, a recent jump from their 45% Over rate this season.

LEAN OVER 8.5 (-120).

Chicago Cubs at St. Louis Cardinals Game 1 odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Chicago Cubs at St. Louis Cardinals odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Chicago Cubs (46-49) and St. Louis Cardinals (48-45) play the 2nd and 3rd game of a 4-game set at Busch Stadium Saturday. First pitch for Game 1 of the doubleheader is set for 2:15 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Cubs vs. Cardinals odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Cardinals lead 4-2

The Cubs took down the Cardinals 5-1 as +178 underdogs in the series opener Friday as the Under (8) hit.

The last couple of months have been a struggle for the Cubs, but they are hot heading into the break. They have won 5 games in a row to pull back within 3 games of the final Wild Card spot.

The Cardinals pushed themselves into the playoff hunt with their recent play, but after winning 12 of 17 games, they have dropped each of their last 3 contests.

Cubs at Cardinals projected starters

RHP Hayden Wesneski vs. RHP Lance Lynn

Wesneski (3-5, 3.67 ERA) makes his 7th start and 24th appearance. He has a 1.10 WHIP, 3.2 BB/9 and 8.5 K/9 in 56 1/3 innings.

  • Last start: Win, 6 1/3 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 1 BB, 2 K in 5-0 home victory vs. Los Angeles Angels Sunday
  • Prior to last start, had recorded 7 K’s in 2 straight starts; had also allowed 8 ER in 9 innings over that span
  • Has been better as starter than reliever; has registered 3.41 ERA and 8.5 K/9 in 31 2/3 innings across 6 starts
  • Career vs. Cardinals: 0-1, 4.91 ERA (3 2/3 IP, 2 ER), 1.64 WHIP, 14.7 K/9 in 3 appearances (1 start), including 0-1 with 9.00 ERA (1 IP, 1 ER) in 1 relief appearance this year

Lynn (4-4, 4.48 ERA) makes his 19th start. He has a 1.41 WHIP, 3.5 BB/9 and 8.6 K/9 in 90 1/3 innings.

  • Last start: Loss, 2 2/3 IP, 10 ER (11 R), 9 H, 4 BB, 2 K in 14-6 defeat at Washington Nationals July 6
  • Had allowed just 1 ER in 12 2/3 innings with an 11/1 K/BB in final 2 starts of June
  • Has been much better at Busch Stadium than in away games this season; has posted 3.66 ERA and 9.8 K/9 in 9 home starts
  • Career vs. Cubs (regular season): 6-8, 5.43 ERA (122 2/3 IP, 74 ER), 1.43 WHIP, 9.0 K/9 in 24 appearances (23 starts), including 0-0 with 13.50 ERA (4 2/3 IP, 7 ER) in 1 start last year

  • Run line (RL)/Against the spread (ATS): Cubs +1.5 (-196) | Cardinals -1.5 (+162)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 9 (O: -105 | U: -115)

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

Cubs at Cardinals picks and predictions

Prediction

Cubs 6, Cardinals 4

Moneyline

Lynn has been very up and down lately. He had the 2 strong starts mentioned above, sandwiched between some clunkers, resulting in a 7.14 ERA over his last 6 starts.

Wesneski has had his ups and downs as well but is coming off a strong start, and he’s looked good as a starter. In a game that looks like a toss-up, side with the team that is hot and an underdog. Back the CUBS +108.

Run line/Against the spread

This sets up to be a pretty tight game, but the odds are too high to take the Cubs and the +1.5 runs. Lynn has shown he’s capable of throwing a gem when you least expect it, so the recommendation is to PASS.

Over/Under

Both pitchers have been prone to the long ball, with Wesneski sporting a 1.6 HR/9 and Lynn boasting a 1.9 mark over his last 6 starts. With a slight breeze expected to be blowing out, siding with the OVER 9 (-105) looks like the smart play here.

Chicago Cubs at St. Louis Cardinals odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Chicago Cubs at St. Louis Cardinals odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Chicago Cubs (45-49) take on the St. Louis Cardinals (48-44) Friday in the opener of a 4-game set at Busch Stadium at 8:15 p.m. ET (Apple TV). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Cubs vs. Cardinals odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Cards lead 4-1

The Cubs have won 4 in a row, despite losing OF Cody Bellinger to the IL with a broken finger. They swept the Baltimore Orioles in Camden Yards by a combined score of 21-2. They put it on the O’s 8-0 Thursday as their top 3 hitters combined to go 7-for-13 (.538) with 5 RBIs.

The Cards dropped a doubleheader against the Kansas City Royals Wednesday by scores of 6-4 and 8-5. They went with a bullpen game in the nightcap and just couldn’t stop the bleeding despite having 10 hits in the game. OF Alec Burleson is 6-for-16 (.375) with 2 homers and 6 RBIs during a 4-game hitting streak.

Cubs at Cardinals projected starters

RHP Kyle Hendricks vs. RHP Sonny Gray

Hendricks (1-7, 7.53 ERA) makes his 12th start and 17th appearance. He has a 1.58 WHIP, 2.8 BB/9 and 6.7 K/9 through 63 1/3 innings.

  • Last start: Loss, 2 IP, 2 ER, 4 H, 2 BB, 1 K in 7-0 home defeat Saturday against Los Angeles Angels
  • June 14 relief outing vs. St. Louis: 4 1/3 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 0 BB, 1 K in 3-0 home loss
  • Last 5 starts vs. Cardinals: 3-1, 2.18 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, 14 K in 33 IP

Gray (9-5, 3.30 ERA) makes his 17th start. He has a 1.04 WHIP, 2.3 BB/9 and 11.2 K/9 through 92 2/3 innings.

  • Last start: No-decision, 5 IP, 5 ER, 8 H, 1 BB, 6 K in 7-6 win in 11 innings July 5 at Washington Nationals
  • May 26 vs. Cubs: Win, 5 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 2 BB, 8 K in 4-3 home victory
  • Last 5 starts vs. Cubs: 1-1, 3.42 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, 37 K in 23 2/3 IP

Who’s going yard? Here’s a breakdown of today’s best home run props with our top picks. Include the BetMGM bonus code SBWIRE to score a $1,500 first-bet offer.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

Cubs at Cardinals picks and predictions

Prediction

Cardinals 4, Cubs 3

Moneyline

The Cards are massive favorites in this game because they have their ace on the mound and are facing a pitcher with a 7+ ERA. Throw that out the window. If you asked anyone familiar with the Cardinals who they would hate to face in a 1-game playoff, Hendricks won’t be far down the list of candidates. He’s 13-4 with a 2.62 ERA and 1.05 WHIP in 27 outings (26 starts) in his career, which spans 172 IP. That’s a full year of dominance over the course of his career.

Gray has also been lit up for 11 runs (8 ER) in his last 2 starts. So there’s no chance I’d consider the Cardinals at 1:2 odds.

I think the Cards find a way to win, but I’m taking CUBS FIRST 5 INNINGS +155.

Run line/Against the spread

No thanks to either side of the RL here. Instead, I love ALEC BURLESON OVER 1.5 H+R+RBI (-150). Lefties are hitting .305 with an .897 OPS against Hendricks this season. Burleson is 2-for-4 lifetime against him.

Over/Under

There are isolated thunderstorms in the area Friday, but they are expected to clear by 1st pitch. That said, the humidity is high on what’s slated to be an 83-degree evening. A light 3-mph breeze is blowing out to left-center.

The Cards are 7-3 O/U in their last 10, and the Cubs are 5-5. The Over is just 2-7-1 in the last 10 meetings between the clubs. However, with the humidity and 2 pitchers that aren’t on top of their game, I’ll take the OVER 8 (-105).

Game 2: Kansas City Royals at St. Louis Cardinals odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Kansas City Royals at St. Louis Cardinals odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Kansas City Royals (49-43) take on the St. Louis Cardinals (48-42) Wednesday in the 2nd game of a doubleheader at Busch Stadium at 7:45 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Royals vs. Cardinals odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

(Records, trends and stats do not include the 1st game of Wednesday’s doubleheader.)

Season series: First meeting; they tied 2-2 in 2023

This is a short 2-game series. Tuesday’s opener was rained out and rescheduled for Wednesday, setting up this doubleheader.

The Royals come into the I-70 series after dropping 2 of 3 in Coors Field to the Colorado Rockies. They left town with a 10-1 haymaker victory Sunday. They were favored in all 3 games and the finale was the only Over cash of the series. SS Bobby Witt Jr. went 3-for-5 with his 15th homer of the season in Sunday’s win. The All-Star is hitting .324 with 15 dingers, 61 RBIs and 22 steals. If the Royals remain in contention, he’s a darkhorse candidate for MVP. BetMGM Sportsbook has those odds at +2000 entering Wednesday’s action.

The Cardinals were scheduled to run their ace RHP Sonny Gray out in the nightcap, but he has been pushed back while the Cards go with rookie RHP Gordon Graceffo. The Cards took 3 of 4 from the Washington Nationals and return home for a 7-game homestand, which includes a 4-game set with a Saturday DH vs. the Chicago Cubs, before the All-Star break. St. Louis OF Lars Nootbaar returned from the DL Monday, and INF/OF Tommy Edman, a regular in the lineup who has been on the DL since the start of the season, is due back after the break.

Royals at Cardinals projected starters

RHP Michael Wacha vs. RHP Gordon Graceffo

Wacha (5-6, 3.74 ERA) makes his 16th start. He has a 1.22 WHIP, 2.8 BB/9 and 8.0 K/9 through 84 1/3 innings.

  • Last start: Win, 6 IP, 1 ER, 2 H, 3 BB, 8 K in 4-2 home victory vs. Tampa Bay Rays
  • Career vs. Cardinals: 2-0, 2.19 ERA (12 /13 IP, 3 ER), 1.14 WHIP, 11 K in 2 starts

Graceffo (0-0, 2.08 ERA) makes his 1st major league start. He debuted June 29 in relief against the Cincinnati Reds — his lone MLB appearance — and worked 4 1/3 innings, yielding 1 run on 3 hits and 2 walks with 4 K’s.

  • 2024 at Triple-A Memphis: 8-5, 3.86 ERA (77 IP, 33 ER), 1.39 WHIP, 3.6 BB/9, 8.3 K/9 in 15 starts
  • Utilizes 4-seam fastball (94 mph), changeup, curveball and slider
  • Opponents have gone hitless against 12 curveballs he has thrown in the majors and are hitting .143 against 21 changeups

Who’s going yard? Here’s a breakdown of today’s best home run props with our top picks. Include the BetMGM bonus code SBWIRE to score a $1,500 first-bet offer.

Royals at Cardinals odds

Provided by FanDuel Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated at 2:06 p.m. ET.

  • Moneyline (ML): Royals -102 (bet $102 to win $100) | Cardinals -116 (bet $116 to win $100)
  • Run line (RL)/Against the spread (ATS): Royals -1.5 (+150) | Cardinals +1.5 (-184)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 8.5 (O: -120 | U: -102)

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

Royals at Cardinals picks and predictions

Prediction

Cardinals 4, Royals 3

Moneyline

This will be the 1st time the 2013 NLCS MVP toes the rubber at Busch Stadium since he left after the 2019 season. Wacha has been great in 2 starts against the Cards — once for the Boston Red Sox and once for the San Diego Padres — in his respective home ballpark the last 2 seasons.

I’m a little surprised to see the Cards favored in this one with the pitching matchup. I think they get it done once Wacha exits, though. The Royals bullpen ranks 2nd in MLB with a 4.37 ERA. The Cards can’t get swept in this doubleheader, and I think they’ll have some issues in the early game.

BET CARDINALS (-116).

Run line/Against the spread

I love MICHAEL WACHA OVER 4.5 K’S (-142). He has 5 or more strikeouts in 3 straight starts and 5+ in both of his career starts against St. Louis.

Book it.

Over/Under

It’s slated to be a humid, 82-degree evening with a slight 5-mph wind blowing out to right-center. With this being the nightcap of a doubleheader, I look for a lower-scoring game. The Over is 5-5 in the last 10 meetings between the teams. The Royals are 4-6 O/U in their last 10, and the Cards are 6-4.

LEAN UNDER 8.5 (-102).
