USA TODAY Super 25 Week 13 Preview: Multiple monster playoff matchups

USA TODAY High School Sports previews Week 13 for each team ranked in the Super 25.

Week 13 of the high school football season is going to be a good one.

With the playoffs underway across the nation, multiple teams ranked in the USA TODAY Super 25 are slated to meet in a win-or-go-home matchup this weekend. No. 1 Mater Dei hits the road to take on No. 10 Centennial in the CIF Southern Section Division I semifinals, while No. 4 St. John Bosco and No. 9 Servite do battle for the second time this season. St. John Bosco won by 14 points in the regular season.

No. 19 Hoover and No. 22 Thompson are set for a rematch of their own in the Alabama state playoffs. Hoover stunned Thompson during the regular season, but Thompson did not have its star quarterback in the second half of that game.

Outside of postseason play is another monster matchup between No. 3 IMG Academy and No. 15 St. Frances Academy in their season finales. Both teams are coming off bye weeks and are well-rested to close the season out strong.

With all of that being said, let’s take a look at what is in store for each team in the USA TODAY Sports Super 25 during the 13th weekend of the 2021 high school football season.

Georgia football social media reacts: 4-star WR De’Nylon Morrissette commits to UGA

The Georgia Bulldogs secured their 13th commitment in the class of 2022 from four-star wide receiver De’Nylon Morrissette.

The Georgia Bulldogs continue to add to their elite recruiting class of 2022. Kirby Smart and the Dawgs secured their 13th commitment in the class from four-star wide receiver De’Nylon Morrissette.

Georgia has the No. 1-rated class of 2022. Morrissette is Georgia’s first pure wide receiver to make a commitment.

Morrissette will play high school football for North Cobb in Kennesaw, Georgia, this season. He previously played for Brookwood High School in Snellville, Georgia, and for St. Frances Academy in Baltimore, Maryland.

Morrissette has connections to several players on Georgia’s roster and played alongside Marquis Groves-Killebrew at Brookwood. He’s an outstanding receiver after the catch and has the ability to compete for playing time as a true freshman.

Here’s how Georgia football social media reacted to Morrissette’s commitment:

UGA adds commitment from 4-star in-state WR

The Georgia Bulldogs and head coach Kirby Smart have added another commitment in wide receiver De’Nylon Morrissette

The Georgia Bulldogs and head coach Kirby Smart have added another commitment, wide receiver De’Nylon Morrissette. Morrissette is an in-state prospect who plans to attend North Cobb High School in Kennesaw, Georgia, for the 2021 football season.

Morrissette committed to Georgia over Alabama, Georgia Tech, Notre Dame, Oregon, South Carolina, Florida and USC. His decision is not shocking, but Morrissette is very talented and could immediately earn playing time at Georgia.

The North Cobb student-athlete played high school football for Brookwood, which is located in Snellville, Georgia. At Brookwood, he practiced against defensive back Marquis Groves-Killebrew, who is committed to the Georgia Bulldogs.

Before attending Brookwood, De’Nylon Morrissette played for St. Frances Academy in Baltimore, Maryland. Jamon Dumas-Johnson, an incoming freshman linebacker at the University of Georgia, also played for St. Frances Academy.

Morrissette is Georgia’s 13th commitment in the class of 2022. The Dawgs have the nation’s No. 1 recruiting class.

The four-star wide receiver recruit came onto the scene with a strong start to the season last year. Morrissette made his decision in a special commitment video:

At 6 feet, 1 inch, 200 pounds, De’Nylon Morrissette has solid size. Morrissette is considered the No. 22 prospect in the state of Georgia and a top 250 prospect in the class of 2022.

He is considered Georgia’s first wide receiver commitment in the class of 2022.

High School Football: Our Lady of Good Counsel stuns St. Frances Academy

Our Lady of Good Counsel defeated Baltimore powerhouse St. Frances Academy on Friday night.

St. Frances Academy’s powerhouse stature did not phase Our Lady of Good Counsel on Friday night, as the Falcons jumped out to an early lead and held on for a 27-14 stunner over the Panthers.

Our Lady of Good Counsel entered its clash with St. Frances riding a two-game losing streak after faltering against Gonzaga High School and St. John’s College, but quickly made it clear it was going to give the Panthers a serious run for their money with a first quarter five-yard receiving touchdown courtesy of Shane Carroll.

The Falcons struck again early in the second quarter, this time scoring on a one-yard touchdown run by freshman quarterback Frankie Weaver to extend their lead to 14-0. One of the biggest plays of the game came on St. Frances’ ensuing drive, as Our Lady of Good Counsel forced a Panthers turnover on downs after they went for it on 4th-and-8 at Our Lady of Good Counsel’s own 16-yard line.

St. Frances bounced back on its next offensive series, though, as quarterback John Griffith fired a 25-yard touchdown pass to bring the score to 14-6 before halftime. The Panthers then knotted things up on a pick-six and a two-point conversion late in the third quarter, but Our Lady of Good Counsel answered back with 13 unanswered points and stifling defense down the stretch to put the game away.
