LeBron James was back on set finishing the new ‘Space Jam’ this week

Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James was back to put some of the finishing touches on “Space Jam: A New Legacy” earlier this week.

It may feel like it’s all coming too fast but the NBA is back and the machinations of a new season are already well underway. Of course, the business around basketball has never stopped and nobody knows the non-stop business obligations of being a star player like LeBron James.

Over the past week, James was able to reflect on the past season and what he has to do in a public forum during his time on the Road Trippin’ podcast with Allie Clifton, Richard Jefferson, and Channing Frye. During the podcast, he discussed how close he was to leaving the bubble altogether, how the bubble compared to other championship runs and he also revealed he had a little bit more work left to do on the new ‘Space Jam,’ movie.

James shared some more from the set on Tuesday, where he was visited by actor Michael B. Jordan and his business partner Paul Wachter.

Warner Bros. announced last week that ‘Space Jam: A New Legacy’ will release on HBO Max on the same day it’s scheduled to release in theaters on July 16, 2021.

The old ‘Space Jam’ jerseys are better than the new ones, but we’re still excited for LeBron’s movie

Classic Tune Squad unis > LeBron’s Tune Squad unis.

There are times when nostalgia is overblown, when we all love throwback uniforms and remakes of old movies and TV series because they’re something we’re familiar with.

But when it comes to the new Space Jam: A New Legacy uniforms LeBron James will wear — which we got to see on Monday night — in the sequel to the Michael Jordan and Bugs Bunny flick, the original Tune Squad unis are better.

A twelve-second clip revealed James wearing a kit that had teal on one side and the Looney Tunes circles (the ones Porky Pig uses to say “That’s all folks!”) splashed across them. There’s a lot going on here, to be honest:

It’s a take on the originals, with those same circles and the blue “Tune Squad” name on the center of a mostly white uni:

Simple and understated. I’m not saying James’ movie had to lift them directly, but if we’re comparing the two, it’s MJ > James.

All of that said, I’m excited to see James’ movie, mostly to see him act with cartoons.

‘The Last Dance’: Highlighting Michael Jordan’s top 5 performances vs. the Golden State Warriors

How did Michael Jordan fare against the Golden State Warriors?

Over the last month, ESPN has provided an in-depth look at the Michael Jordan era Chicago Bulls. “The Last Dance” has chronicled Jordan’s rise from his time at Chapel Hill to the top of the NBA mountain.

The 30 for 30 series has pulled back the curtain on the Bulls’ rivalry with the Detroit Pistons and the New York Knicks. Jordan’s battles with Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Isiah Thomas, Penny Hardaway and Shaquille O’Neal have all been highlighted throughout the documentary.

Like many, the Golden State Warriors struggled against Jordan’s Bulls. The Warriors stamped a 9-17 record against Jordan over his career. For the Warriors — a mix of Latrell Sprewell, Sarunas Marciulionis and the Run TMC trio led the way against Jordan.

In 26 games over his career, Jordan averaged 28.8 points on 50.8% shooting from the field and 41.5% shooting from beyond the arc. The five-time Most Valuable Player added 6.7 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 2.4 steals per game for the Bulls.

With the finale of the 10-part series approaching, Warriors Wire looked back into Golden State’s history to find the best performances from Jordan against Golden State.

“De hecho me he visto a mí mismo ahí”, dijo.

Bill Murray jokes he’s tired of Michael Jordan getting all the credit for ‘Space Jam’ win

Bill Murray said his key Space Jam play was “so easily forgotten.”

Bill Murray doesn’t want sports fans to forget the hero he was in the movie Space Jam.

Throughout the last several weeks, the sports world has been glued to the TV on Sunday nights for episodes of The Last Dance, ESPN’s 10-part documentary about Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls’ dynasty during the 1990s. And the docuseries has included some behind-the-scenes moments with Jordan during the filming of Space Jam.

While a guest on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Wednesday, Murray said, from the comfort of his bathtub, “of course” he’s been watching The Last Dance.

“I’ve actually seen myself,” he said. “‘There! I’m in the background! Right there! … Stop, play that back!'”

But he jokingly explained he also felt slighted and didn’t get the recognition he thought he deserved for his role in the fictional victory in the half-live-action, half-animated movie. Murray continued telling Kimmel:

“People forget that I got the assist on the game-winning basket. So easily forgotten. I stole the ball. I made the pass. I got nothing. I wasn’t even interviewed after. But that was a lot of fun making that.”

Murray also spoke about how the cast would keep themselves occupied in their down time while shooting. He said sometimes they’d have 45 minutes to an hour to kill, so naturally, they’d go golfing.

He continued:

“We would just go play golf for an hour, play three or four holes of golf with Larry Bird and Michael and myself. That was a lot of fun.”

It’s clear we need a separate documentary on behind the scenes of filming ‘Space Jam’

GIVE US THE JORDAN DOME STORIES!

There are so many things we’ve learned from The Last Dance — which is coming to its conclusion with episode 9 and 10 on Sunday — from Michael Jordan being emotional about why he was so hard on teammates to the fact that he likes to laugh at opponents who talk smack about their decades-ago matchups now.

But the biggest takeaway I have from Sunday’s slate of eps is still sticking with me: we need a making-of Space Jam documentary like yesterday.

Specifically, there’s footage from behind the scenes of the “Jordan Dome,” in which some All-Stars and future Hall of Famers — Reggie Miller, Dennis Rodman, Juwan Howard and Patrick Ewing were among them — played with Jordan in between the legend filming the 1996 flick.

And we need even more than we got from the eighth episode of The Last Dance, which was GOLD:

Incredible. Jordan used that time to scout his future opponents!! And apparently, those games were epic. There’s got to be more footage of them, right?

So we need more! And yes, I’m aware we’ve seen articles and stories from that time, like this Los Angeles Times feature with stories from former UCLA star Kris Johnson, or this Slam oral history with quotes like this from Tim Hardaway:

If you were there, you were there to play. You weren’t there to just BS around. There was (expletive) talking up in your face, good defense. It was very, very, very competitive. You didn’t want to lose. It was all about bragging rights… You came with your best. You were there to bust people’s ass and show them, this is the way it’s going to be all season long when I play against you. You wanted to put something in people’s minds. Like, every time I play against you, this is the way it’s going to be.

SERIOUSLY! Get all of these dudes on camera so they can tell these stories in documentary form. We’ve gotten our taste from The Last Dance. We need more Michael Jordan content, and focusing on those epic games — with commentary on the footage about what’s going on — inside the Jordan Dome are the perfect next step.
