LeBron James unveils new Tune Squad uniform for ‘Space Jam 2’

The Los Angeles Lakers star unveiled the uniform for the new Tune Squad, which he will wear in the upcoming ‘Space Jam 2.’

On the eve of his return to the playoffs and the first playoff appearance by the Los Angeles Lakers since 2013, LeBron James unveiled a look at the updated ‘Tune Squad’ jerseys that he will wear in ‘Space Jam 2,’ which he spent last summer filming and is slated to release in 2021.

The new-look uniform was unveiled by LeBron’s various media companies on social media on Monday night. In it, you can also see that LeBron is wearing No. 6 for the Tune Squad, rather than taking the No. 23 that Michael Jordan wore for the Tune Squad in the original ‘Space Jam.’ No. 6 was LeBron’s number with the Miami Heat and the USA National Team, and he also wears No. 6 for his practice uniform.

Several of LeBron’s media companies recently merged to create the Spring Hill Company, which included an investment of $100 million in the new company. It’s also no secret that the expectations for ‘Space Jam 2’ to succeed in the box office, from LeBron’s side of things and Warner Bros. side of things, are very high.

Steph Curry chimes in on LeBron James showing off new ‘Space Jam 2’ logo

It looks like Stephen Curry approves of the new “Space Jam 2” logo.

Without basketball on the calendar, news about “Space Jam 2” might be the next best thing.

On Thursday, LeBron James shared a video post on Instagram showing off a new logo for the second part of the classic Looney Tunes film. James sported a dad hat with the new logo planted in the middle of the lid. Adding to the new emblem, the full title of the film, “A New Legacy” was stitched across the bottom.

Take a look at the updated Space Jam logo courtesy of James on Instagram:

Although Stephen Curry is slated to appear in the film, the Golden State Warriors guard chimed in on James’ Instagram post. Curry congratulated the Lakers’ forward commenting “that’s dope” with emojis.

Curry’s teammate Klay Thompson is expected to represent the Golden State Warriors alongside other NBA and WNBA stars in the highly anticipated upcoming basketball sequel.

LeBron James released the new name and logo for ‘Space Jam: A New Legacy’

Welcome to the jam.

There hasn’t been much sports to look forward to in 2020, but at least we know that 2021 will bring Space Jam 2 (which still isn’t exactly sports, but I’ll allow it).

The LeBron James-led sequel to Michael Jordan’s 1996 film is set for release next year, and on Thursday, LeBron offered a glimpse at the movie’s actual name and logo.

LeBron took to social media and posted a video of him wearing a Space Jam cap. The name won’t be “Space Jam 2,” as many expected, but instead, it will go buy the title, Space Jam: A New Legacy. LeBron and Bugs Bunny are billed as the leading stars.

Here’s a look at the teaser poster:

Filming for the reimagined sequel took place last year with Klay Thompson, Anthony Davis, Damian Lillard and Diana Taurasi among the players expected to appear in the movie.

LeBron James shows up on Instagram sporting ‘Space Jam 2’ merch

Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James showed off some new merch for the ‘Space Jam 2’ on his Instagram on Thursday night.

Despite the current hiatus across American life, outside of essential businesses, movies and television shows have stopped most of their regular production alongside the current hiatus in sports. However, LeBron James seems very confident that ‘Space Jam 2,’ which he spent most of the last summer filming, is still going to come out in 2021 as previously scheduled. LeBron posted as much on Thursday afternoon, sharing a ‘Space Jam 2’ Dad hat while writing the caption “2021.”

While LeBron went on the record today saying he hopes that the NBA season isn’t canceled, he still luckily has some other milestones to focus on. Also, the “Space Jam 2” hat is pretty dope and I’m fairly certain fans will be wondering when and where that is going on sale. Some ‘Space Jam 2’ merch went on sale through Nike during All-Star Weekend, but there will likely be much more whenever we get closer to the hopeful release next summer.

Don Cheadle to play villain in ‘Space Jam 2,’ Paul Scheer says

Cheadle has long been a part of the project but his role wasn’t quite clear until his Black Monday co-star dropped it a few days ago.

As the boredom of being stuck inside during quarantine has been getting to people, there have been lots of untold stories getting dropped during these times. A few weeks ago, Carmelo Anthony told the story of the time LeBron James jumped off a boat to save his life. And then we got another bit of interesting LeBron news from an unexpected source, actor/comedian Paul Scheer.

During an episode of The Athletic’s ‘Clip City’ podcast, Scheer broke the news that Don Cheadle, with whom Scheer stars on the Showtime show ‘Black Monday,’ will play the villain in the ‘Space Jam 2,’ starring LeBron James.

Actually Don Cheadle, who I do ‘Black Monday’ with, he’s the bad guy in ‘Space Jam [2],’ and he said LeBron’s really great. He was great in ‘Trainwreck‘ too

(Hat-Tip to AwardsCircuit)

Cheadle has been a well-known part of the cast but it was previously unclear what his role would be in the reboot of the 1996 production. LeBron is expected to be joined by several other NBA and WNBA players, including Damian Lillard and Diana Taurasi.

Nike puts Monstars jerseys from ‘Space Jam 2’ on sale

Nike dropped jerseys for the Monstars on Monday, which will be featured alongside Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James in ‘Space Jam 2.’

You don’t have to wait until 2021 to get merch from ‘Space Jam 2.’ Nike unexpectedly dropped the “Monstars” jerseys that will be used in the reboot of the 1996 classic, featuring LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers. All-Star Weekend is just around the corner and it’s generally a big weekend for the sneaker community, so Nike dropped an unexpected treat on fans who want to get the new Monstars gear.

LeBron spent basically all of the last summer working on the set of ‘Space Jam 2,’ including having a full-court basketball gym built on the set so he could maintain his workout routine while shooting the movie. James will be joined by other NBA stars in the movie, such as Portland’s Damian Lillard, Golden State’s Klay Thompson and his new Lakers teammate Anthony Davis.

It will be interesting to see what else Nike has planned with regards to Space Jam, especially since this year’s All-Star Game is at the house that Michael Jordan built in Chicago.

‘Monstars’ LeBron 17s unveiled, to go on sale next month

The Los Angeles Lakers and Space Jam 2 star has a new version of his signature shoes dedicated to the film coming out in 2021.

If you’re a sneakerhead, a LeBron James fan, someone who really loves the Looney Toons, or all of the above, the latest bit of sneaker news to drop from Nike about upcoming releases for All-Star is something you’ve got to check out.

Nike unveiled the Nike LeBron 17 ‘Monstars’ edition, which commemorates LeBron starring in the sequel Michael Jordan’s iconic 1996 film, ‘Space Jam 2.’ They feature incredible ‘Space Jam’ details on the insole and are a shout out to the team of fictional aliens that take the powers of NBA players in the original movie before Michael Jordan has to beat them in a game to get the powers back to the players. The shoes will go on sale in February, according to Sneaker News.

Nike also unveiled uniforms for the Tune Squad and the Monstars for Space Jam 2 that are expected to go on sale closer to the movie’s release in 2021.

Damian Lillard, who wears No. 0 for the Portland Trail Blazers, is starring in the movie and perhaps the No. 0 on the shoe is a shout out to the fictional alien who will steal his powers in the reboot. With the Lakers in New York City tonight, perhaps this is the day LeBron will take the court in the ‘Monstars’ shoes.
