Recruiting profile for 4-Star wide receiver Bryant Wesco

Oklahoma is pushing hard for 2024 WR Bryant Wesco, a four-star receiver out of Midlothian, Texas.

Emmett Jones has a lot of catching up to do for the class of 2024 and for the class of 2025. Oklahoma had its introductory offers and did its due diligence to build relationships with some of the guys in both classes.

L’Damian Washington was still the interim WR coach. However, with Washington not being a firm solution, whoever came in as the full-time wide receiver coach needed to make up some ground. That bit of uncertainty could cause potential recruits to hesitate.

Jones has quickly made his mark with the Sooners. His early conversations with 2024 receiver Bryant Wesco must have resonated. The Oklahoma Sooners received a Rivals FutureCast from Josh McCuistion of SoonerScoop.com to land Wesco’s services in the 2024 cycle.

Wesco, received an offer from Oklahoma last year after camping with the Sooners. He was lightly recruited at the time, but since has blossomed into a consensus four-star receiver. TCU is a player in Wesco’s recruitment early on so this could come down to Oklahoma battling it out with a conference foe for the Texas playmaker.

Wesco has Sooner ties. His sister Bailey is a current member of the Oklahoma Women’s soccer team. All told, Oklahoma should feel very good about their chances in this as long as they see it thru until the very end.

Projections

  • Josh McCuistion of SoonerScoop.com predicted Wesco to land with the Oklahoma Sooners.
  • On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine puts the Horned Frogs out in front in Wesco’s recruitment.

Oklahoma Sooners full 2023 football schedule released

The official Oklahoma Sooners 2023 football schedule.

The Oklahoma Sooners 2023 schedule is official with the release of the Big 12 schedule on Tuesday afternoon.

The entrance of BYU, Cincinnati, Houston, and UCF, and the departure of Oklahoma and Texas provided intrigue to this years’ schedule release. Conference realignment disrupted the natural flow of home dates for the Big 12.

After some initial delay, first-year commissioner Brett Yormark has his first schedule in an expanded Big 12.

We’ve known the nonconference schedule for sometime, though there was an adjustment on the fly after Georgia and Oklahoma mutually agreed to cancel their nonconference home and home with the Sooners moving to the SEC in 2025 at the latest. Joe Castiglione replaced the Bulldogs with SMU on the fly to provide the Sooners a solid Group of Five foe.

With an expanded Big 12 for at least this season, here’s a look at the Oklahoma Sooners 2023 football schedule.

Oklahoma issues offer to 2025 four-star OT Lamont Rogers

Oklahoma sends offer to 2025 four-star OT prospect Lamont Rogers out of Horn High School in Mesquite, Texas.

Bill Bedenbaugh’s coaching and recruiting abilities speak for themselves. While his recruits are never the flashiest or hardly the highest-rated prospects in the country, Bedenbaugh continues to find players that can thrive when they put on the Crimson & Cream.

[autotag]Bill Bedenbaugh[/autotag] signed his highest-rated prospect since 2021 when he landed [autotag]Cayden Green[/autotag], a consensus four-star and top-100 prospect nationwide. Green, an offensive tackle from Missouri, has already enrolled and is taking part in the off-season program.

Bedenbaugh is back on the recruiting trail looking for the offensive line talent of the future. His latest offer goes out to [autotag]Lamont Rogers[/autotag], a 6-foot-6 offensive tackle prospect out of Mesquite, Texas.

Rogers, a four-star prospect from the 2025 class, has incredible size for being just a sophomore in high school. He uses his frame well and has plenty of functional lateral quickness, which has been showcased on the football field and the basketball court. After his sophomore season, Rogers was a Texas District 10-6A first-team selection.

Former LSU defensive back commits to SMU

Jaelyn Davis-Robinson is returning to his home state of Texas.

Former Tigers cornerback [autotag]Jaelyn Davis-Robinson[/autotag] has found a new home.

The former three-star cornerback in the 2022 recruiting class Waxahachie, Texas, has committed to SMU. In his lone season at LSU, Davis-Robinson appeared in just three games and totaled four tackles.

He was rated as the No. 483 player in the country coming out of high school per the 247Sports Composite.

Davis-Robinson was expected to be a contributor in 2023, so his decision to transfer came as a bit of a surprise, but with additions in the secondary like Duce Chestnut and JK Johnson, as well as several blue-chip true freshmen, he didn’t have a clear path to the field.

Now, he’ll look for a new beginning in Dallas with four remaining seasons of eligibility.

Draft Wire mock sends Vikings SMU WR Rashee Rice

The SMU wide receiver would be a tremendous complement to Justin Jefferson

Cornerbacks are on the rage for the Minnesota Vikings in mock drafts. Analysts have sent five of them so far to the Vikings and I wouldn’t expect it to stop anytime soon.

In the meantime, cornerback isn’t the only position that the Vikings need, as I believe that wide receiver is the top position of need.

In the latest mock draft from Draft Wire, Luke Easterling believes the same, as he sent the Vikings SMU WR Rashee Rice. Here is what Easterling had to say about the Mustang speedster.

“Adam Thielen isn’t getting any younger, and the Vikings should find a younger understudy to eventually take over as Justin Jefferson’s running mate at receiver. Rice has the size/speed combo that would make him a perfect complement to Jefferson.”

I am a huge fan of Rice, as he currently ranks as my WR5 in this class and you can read all about him in my scouting report. If he were to end up with the Vikings, it would be a great get.

Vikings land dynamic receiver in latest Draft Wire mock draft

The SMU speedster could be a great addition to the Vikings

The first group of scouting reports that I have been doing for the SKOL Search series has been on wide receivers. This class isn’t as top-heavy as the ones we have seen in previous seasons, but the depth through day two is excellent.

In his latest mock draft, Draft Wire’s Luke Easterling has the Minnesota Vikings selecting wide receiver Rashee Rice. Here is what Easterling had to say about Rice.

“Adam Thielen isn’t getting any younger, and the Vikings should find a younger understudy to eventually take over as Justin Jefferson’s running mate at receiver. Rice has the size/speed combo that would make him a perfect complement to Jefferson.”

I agree completely, as Rice is currently my fifth-ranked receiver in the 2023 class. You can find my scouting report here. Needless to say, he would be a nice addition to the Vikings.

Vikings go wide receiver in latest Draft Wire mock draft

There is a need for a wide receiver to compliment Justin Jefferson

The Minnesota Vikings are in a position to prioritize a premium position with their first pick in the NFL draft. Wide receiver should be the position that they go after early in the draft and Draft Wire’s Luke Easterling agrees.

In his latest mock draft, Easterling has the Vikings selecting SMU wide receiver Rashee Rice. Here is what Easterling said about Rice.

“Adam Thielen isn’t getting any younger, and the Vikings should find a younger understudy to eventually take over as Justin Jefferson’s running mate at receiver. Rice has the size/speed combo that would make him a perfect complement to Jefferson.”

I am a big fan of this. Rice currently ranks as my fifth-best wide receiver in the 2023 class and his combination of speed and physicality is rare. As Easterling said, it would make him a perfect complement to Jefferson.

SKOL Search: Rashee Rice scouting report

The speedster from SMU has a lot of talent. How is he as a prospect?

Welcome to SKOL Search!

This series will be your guide to the 2023 draft class. From scouting reports to mock drafts and exploring different scenarios, we will be covering the NFL draft and the future of the Minnesota Vikings from all angles.

The focus of the draft class in this space will be on the Vikings’ major needs at wide receiver, running back, cornerback and both interior and edge pass rusher.

The Vikings are slated to have four picks before compensatory selections are awarded and they need to make the most out of them.

SKOL Search: Prospects to watch during Saturday’s bowl games

There are quite a few prospects you should keep your eye on this weekend

Bowl season started on Friday morning and it brings a lot of fun for the football fan. It also gives prospects one last opportunity to leave a mark before entering the NFL draft.

Unfortunately, some of the best prospects end up opting out to start their training for the NFL draft process. It’s not great for the viewer but it’s arguably better for the majority of prospects.

While a lot of the top prospects in these games won’t play (most notably Anthony Richardson), there are still quite a few talented prospects that will go high in the NFL draft this April. Here are the best of the best that you will see on Saturday afernoon.
