Former Georgia DB enters transfer portal

Former four-star defensive back recruit is unsurprisingly entering into the transfer portal after a short time at Georgia.

Former Georgia Bulldogs defensive back Smoke Bouie has entered the NCAA transfer portal. Bouie left Georgia’s program after transferring in from Texas A&M following the 2022 college football season.

Georgia head coach Kirby Smart noted Bouie was no longer with the team at SEC media days in July.

Bouie, a former four-star Georgia commit that flipped to Texas A&M, spent one season with Texas A&M before transferring to Georgia. Now, he is looking for a new college football home. It is unclear if he will be immediately eligible at his new school.

Javon Bullard, Malaki Starks, Kamari Lassiter and Daylen Everette are Georgia’s four projected starters at defensive back. Tykee Smith and Joenel Aguero are expected to play snaps at star.

Former Texas A&M DB Smoke Bouie has parted ways with Georgia, according to Head coach Kirby Smart

Former Texas A&M DB Smoke Bouie, who recently transferred to Georgia in January, has reportedly parted ways with the program.

On Tuesday morning, Georgia Head Coach Kirby Smart, who spoke to the media on the second day of the 2023 SEC Media Days (July 17-20), released a bit of surprising information concerning defensive back Smoke Bouie, who transferred to the Bulldogs from Texas A&M in early January.

This summer, it was revealed that Bouie had not been in contact with Georgia, which led to intense speculation regarding his future with the Bulldogs. As of Tuesday, Kirby Smart confirmed that Bouie is no longer a program member.

“Smoke is no longer with our team. It’s been that way for a while,” Smart said Tuesday. “It was mutually agreed to part ways, and we wish him nothing but the best.”

As a member of the Aggies’ historic 2022 recruiting class, Bouie was ranked as the 46th player in the cycle, the 3rd-ranked safety, and the 7th-ranked player in Georgia, According to 247Sports. Bouie recorded three tackles and one pass deflection in seven games last season.

“It was very disappointing his stay was short,” Smart stated. “But it was a decision that was made by both parties, and we wish him nothing but the best. He’s from the same hometown that I’m from, and I know a lot of people back there. But it was the decision that was made.”

Texas A&M transfer Smoke Bouie no longer in Athens…

Georgia football’s secondary will be a little lighter when the Bulldogs begin fall camp. Texas A&M transfer defensive back Smoke Bouie is no longer with the program, per head coach Kirby Smart.

“Smoke is no longer with our team. It’s been that way for a while. He’s kind of mutually agreed to part ways, and we wish him nothing but the best,” Smart said on Tuesday. “It’s very disappointed that his stay was short, but it was a decision that was made on both parties, and like I said, we wish him nothing but the best. He’s from the hometown where I’m from. I know a lot of people back there, but it was the decision that was made.”

Bouie, a former four-star Georgia commit that flipped to Texas A&M in 2022, spent one season as an Aggie before transferring to Athens.

The Bulldogs have depth in the secondary to make up for Bouie’s exit. Bouie was projected to play corner for the Bulldogs, where Georgia returns starters Kamari Lassiter and Javon Bullard.

Former five-star recruits Nyland Green, Daylen Everette and A.J. Harris will have an opportunity to contribute as well.

Georgia defensive back Smoke Bouie was once a highly touted Bulldog commit in the 2022 recruiting class before the Bainbridge, Georgia, native decided to play for Texas A&M.

Bouie (5-foot-11, 180 pounds) spent one season in College Station, appearing in seven games. At one point, he was suspended for violating team rules.

Now in Athens, Bouie has an opportunity to work with some of the top defensive minds in college football and contribute to the back-to-back national champions.

According to teammates, Bouie has the drive it takes to compete in the star-studded defense.

“Smoke (Bouie) is also one of those guys that’s just hungry, you know, coming in from a different school,” defensive back Kamari Lassiter said. “It’s kind of tough, you know, coming into a different environment because you don’t really know anybody. He’s gelled pretty well with us. He’s one of those guys that he just wants to get better every day.”

The Bulldogs are looking for players to step up in the secondary after the departure of cornerback Kelee Ringo and safety Christopher Smith to the 2023 NFL draft.

“Very, very handsy player,” defensive back Javon Bullard said of Bouie. “I love watching him play. He gets hands on receivers, very physical at the point of attack. Very quick and agile. He moves well. I think he’s going to make a great fit for our team.”
