The confusion over Tiger Woods’ shoes at The Masters, explained

Tiger’s shoes don’t have a swoosh on them. What gives?

Welcome to FTW Explains, a guide to catching up on and better understanding stuff going on in the world. Are you confused as to why people are talking about Tiger Woods’ shoes at Augusta National? We’re here to help.

By now you may have heard Tiger Woods intends to tee it up at The Masters this week, barely a year after a single-car accident left the iconic golfer with severe damage to his right leg.

You may have also seen a lot of people making a big deal over the fact that Woods has been spotted wearing non-Nike shoes while practicing in Augusta this week.

Here’s why that’s a hot topic.

Henrik Stenson and Erik van Rooyen help design custom Ecco Biom H4 shoes

Both Stenson and Rooyen have designed their own unique take on the shoe.

Ecco Golf has teamed up with ambassadors Henrik Stenson and Erik van Rooyen to create custom versions of the Ecco Biom H4 shoe. Both Stenson and Rooyen have designed their own unique take on the shoe, reflecting their individual styles and personalities.

Stenson has helped design another ultra-cool ‘Iceman’ shoe in an ice-cold blue and white colorway. The shoe also has his signature trademark tag reading, “Henrik Stenson The Iceman.”

“Ecco Golf is synonymous with crafting fantastic shoes, and it’s super cool that they continue to give me the chance to help create my own styles. I have stuck with the icy-cool colors for my Biom H4, and I really wanted to make it look like you’re walking with ice on the sole of your shoe, hence the bright white and blue colors,” said Stenson.

As for van Rooyen, who is known for his eye-catching stylish looks on Tour, he has designed a striking patterned shoe. His Biom H4 features a black insole, white leather outer and patterned finish on the midsole with pops of blue and orange.

“I really enjoy being different and innovative on the golf course, and I think my design really emulates that feeling for me. It’s awesome to be able to create my own shoe and Biom H4 is such a great shoe to do it with,” said van Rooyen.

The Biom H4 includes their Ecco Fluidform Direct Comfort Technology that uses fluid material to form around an anatomical last, ensuring a balance of cushion and flexibility. To learn more and purchase this shoe, visit golf.ecco.com.

Leather and laces: Duca Del Cosma introduces a range of 25 new variations of golf shoes

Duca Del Cosma, Italian leather luxury golf shoe company, introduces new styles and colorways of their signature shoes.

Duca Del Cosma is a luxury golf shoe brand made from fine Italian leather. This season the company is introducing new styles and colorways resulting in 25 different eye-catching shoe variations.

DDCs JL1 and JL2 men’s shoes were co-designed by Dutch Tour player Joost Luiten. The shoe features camouflage patterns in white/green and black/green with orange accents. The fully waterproof shoes are made from soft Italian Nappa leather and feature an Airplay XI outsole for comfort in various weather conditions.

The men’s Elpaso shoe takes after a more traditional-looking golf shoe with a clean color scheme of a white or navy leather upper and contrasting piping around the midsole. DDC’s OnSteam lining and ARNEFLEX insert sole helps with breathability, while the Airplay XI outsole aids with stability.

Vktry Gear: The world’s first carbon fiber performance insoles

Vktry Gear makes insoles for your shoes, but not just any insoles. Vktry makes sport-specific insoles tailored to your foot.

Vktry Gear makes insoles for your shoes, but they are not just any insoles. Vktry makes sport-specific insoles tailored to your feet. The company offers two styles of insoles at two different price points, making Vktry fit every athlete’s foot and budget.

Vktry offers a Gold and Silver style of the insole. The Gold design is Vktry’s flagship model made from 100% aerospace carbon fiber for serious athletes. The Gold model aids in maximum improvement in performance to help the athlete swing faster, hit farther, run faster and jump higher. These are made from proprietary polyurethane foam with a cloth top cover.

To get custom fitted for the insoles, Vktry asks for your sport, size, weight and age. This ensures a proper fit and sport-specific design. Vktry Insoles are designed to return energy to increase athletic explosiveness. The Vktry Insole does not add energy, it reduces your lost energy. Many medical experts recommend Vktry insoles for help in recovering from injuries such as turf toe, plantar fasciitis, shin splints and several other foot and lower leg injuries.

The Silver Vktry Insole comes at a lower price and is made for the casual athlete. It provides moderate protection and performance enhancement. The silver sole has an EVA Polymer Foam cloud cushion and is made from carbon fiber composite.

“They promised speed … I’m all about speed. Easy speed. Why not add a bit of speed for no extra effort? Sure enough, I’ve broken my personal best a couple of times since I started using them, but there’s an added bonus … they help with recovery,” said Padraig Harrington, three-time major winner and Europe 2021 Ryder Cup Captain.

“I had been suffering a lot with fatigue and soreness in my ankles and knees. Since I started to wear Vktry, it’s gone away completely. Nice added bonus there to the speed, I’d say.”

Jordan Brand makes Carmelo Anthony a Baltimore-inspired 1-of-1 shoe

Los Angeles Lakers forward Carmelo Anthony is set to receive a one-of-a-kind shoe from Jordan Brand that is inspired by his Baltimore ties.

Los Angeles Lakers forward Carmelo Anthony has had a decorated career. He is a 10-time All-Star, six-time All-NBA and a scoring champion. He has played with six NBA organizations, including 14 combined seasons with the Denver Nuggets and New York Knicks.

Despite moving around, one thing has remained constant in Anthony’s career: his deal with Nike’s Jordan Brand. He is the longest-serving member of the brand’s roster, according to the Baltimore Sun, having spent every year since his rookie season in 2003.

Jordan Brand announced the Air Jordan 1 Low “Baltimore Crab,” a Baltimore-inspired one-of-a-kind shoe for Anthony. The shoe is an homage to Anthony’s roots in the city, with nods to Old Bay seasoning, crabs and Anthony’s career (h/t @Baltimore Sun Sports):

The shoes are orange and brown with a light blue Swoosh. They also come in a clear box with some of the forward’s career highlights written on it.

Sneakers or spikes? New Ecco Golf collection steals a little from both.

Ecco Golf is one of the most popular shoe brands in the golf industry and have released their new autumn and winter lineup.

Ecco Golf has established itself as one of the more popular shoe brands in the golf industry and the company has now released its new autumn and winter lineup, featuring its new Ecco Golf Core collection.

Look: Raiders safety Johnathan Abram shoe collection is insane

Look: Raiders safety Johnathan Abram shoe collection is insane

Most players, either just prior to being drafted or soon thereafter, are asked what the first thing they will buy with their first NFL paycheck. I think it’s safe to say, for Johnathan Abram, that answer is shoes.

The third-year safety has just a bit of an obsession. He refers to himself as a Sneakerhead, which is the term for those who collect rare and, often, expensive shoes.

And in a recent feature Abram did that was supposed to be about his dog Amo, the focus shifts pretty quickly to his insane shoe collection.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-pj00GqOY-U

After a minute of talking about how much he loves his dog, Abram starts talking about what really comes first in his life, “If Amo chewed up my shoes, I think Amo would have to leave.”

Then Abram launches into talking about his love…of shoes. He has an entire room filled with them from floor to ceiling. One pair he pulled out he says are his favorite — the UNSV — in part because there were only thirty pairs of them made. He said he had to give away a jersey to get them. Another shoe he points out cost $3500. That price tag most people has at least one too many zeroes in it, maybe two.

He says that pair was a gift, ending the segment saying shoes are the perfect gift for him, adding “I’m more ecstatic over shoes than anything else.”

Oh, and Amo is a very sweet, good boy too.

PGA Championship: Nike’s Lowcountry inspired golf footwear

Rory McIlroy, Brooks Koepka, Tony Finau and other Nike athletes will be wearing special shoes at the 2021 PGA Championship.

When companies make commemorative gear to sell during major championships, they gravitate toward local themes.

For instance, two years ago, when the PGA Championship was being contested at the Black Course at Bethpage State Park in Farmingdale, New York, the famous warning sign near the first tee and the grittiness of New York City were highlighted. Last year, when the tournament visited TPC Harding Park in San Francisco, psychedelic colors, tie-dye patterns and peace symbols were everywhere.

This week, the PGA Championship is being played at the Ocean Course on Kiawah Island in South Carolina. The area is referred to as The Lowcountry region, and is known for boating, fishing, great golf courses and boils on the beaches that feature steaming crab, sausage, corn and potatoes. It’s laid back, gentile and not a place where people hurry and rush too much.

To celebrate the 2021 PGA Championship, Nike is picking up on those themes for new versions of four golf shoes.
