Shane Beamer thanks Phillip Fulmer for his time coaching at Tennessee

South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer was once a graduate assistant at Tennessee.

A former University of Tennessee graduate assistant is now the football head coach at South Carolina.

Shane Beamer has been hired to replace Will Muschamp as the Gamecocks head coach.

Beamer, who is the son of longtime Virginia Tech head coach Frank Beamer, served as a graduate assistant at Tennessee under Phillip Fulmer between 2001-03.

“I have been blessed to be able to work for great coaches over my career,” Beamer said at his South Carolina introductory press conference. “I’ve learned so much from all of them.

Beamer began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Georgia Tech in 2000 before coming to Tennessee.

From UT, he went on to Mississippi State, where he worked for Sylvester Croom between 2004-06.

During his tenure with the Bulldogs, he coached cornerbacks, running backs and served as the recruiting coordinator.

He also served as an assistant at South Carolina under Steve Spurrier. In Columbia, Beamer coached safeties, outside linebackers and special teams.

Beamer also coached at Virginia Tech, Georgia and most recently, Oklahoma.

Twitter reacts: South Carolina hires Shane Beamer as head coach

The South Carolina Gamecocks have hired Shane Beamer as their head coach. Beamer previously coached under Kirby Smart at UGA.

The South Carolina Gamecocks have hired Shane Beamer as their head coach. The Gamecocks recently fired Will Muschamp, who played football for the University of Georgia from 1991-1994.

Shane Beamer is the son of legendary Virginia Tech coach Frank Beamer. Shane will look to replicate some of his father’s success with the Gamecocks.

Shane Beamer has a lot of good coaching ties. He coached under Kirby Smart at Georgia as tight ends coach and special teams coordinator from 2016-2018. Beamer then left to become assistant head coach under Lincoln Riley at Oklahoma.

Beamer’s previously had coaching stints under Steve Spurrier at South Carolina, under Phillip Fulmer at Tennessee, and more. Shane Beamer has been around some of the top minds in college football coaching, but he will have a tall task ahead of himself at South Carolina. The Gamecocks are struggling in recruiting and are regularly getting outclassed by Clemson.

Here’s how Twitter reacted to South Carolina’s latest head coaching hire:

Oklahoma assistant Shane Beamer being introduced as South Carolina’s head coach on Sunday

That happened fast. OU was missing a single coach from the sidelines on Saturday night after a long week with coaches in COVID-19 protocol.

That happened fast.

Oklahoma was missing a single coach from the sidelines on Saturday night after a long week with multiple coaches in COVID-19 protocol. Shane Beamer’s absence was not unexpected as he was among the list of coaches who were in protocol, but the news that broke on Saturday night was unexpected.

Deep into the fourth-quarter of Oklahoma’s game against Baylor, Bruce Feldman dropped the news: Sooners assistant coach Shane Beamer had been hired to be the head coach at South Carolina.

Lincoln Riley was unaware of the happenings after the game, but the report has already come to fruition. Beamer is in South Carolina and being introduced as the next head coach of the Gamecocks on Sunday.

Here is his arrival at the South Carolina football facility.

Beamer reportedly interviewed for the job the week of Thanksgiving. Oklahoma’s game against West Virginia that week was postponed due to COVID-19 issues with the Sooners.

He came to the Sooners in 2018 after spending two years as the special teams coordinator and tight ends coach at Georgia. Beamer spent 2011-15 at Virginia Tech and was an assistant at South Carolina before that.

“I’ll wait to talk to him first,” Riley said after the Baylor game. “Obviously, he wasn’t available to coach for us tonight. So it’s not like I’ve been able to sit and visit with him. If it is true, certainly be thrilled for him. Those are opportunities that you don’t always get. If it is the case, great decision by South Carolina.”

Beamer helped Oklahoma win two Big 12 Championships and make two College Football Playoffs. He also opened up a lot for the Sooners on the east coast for recruiting.

Oklahoma assistant Shane Beamer will reportedly be the next head coach at South Carolina

Oklahoma will reportedly be losing a member of its coaching staff. South Carolina has reportedly swooped in and taken one of the Sooners.

Oklahoma will reportedly be losing a member of its coaching staff.

The Sooners assistant head coach for offense, tight ends and H-backs coach at Oklahoma, Shane Beamer, interviewed for the South Carolina head coach opening last week. It was reported then that he was major candidate for the job.

The Gamecocks, per multiple reports, interviewed a number of names including Louisiana’s Billy Napier. Louisville’s Scott Satterfield and Iowa State’s Matt Campbell were reportedly on the wish list.

And all of the other candidates didn’t matter. The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman reports that Beamer will be the next head coach at South Carolina.

Beamer came to the Sooners in 2018 after spending two years as the special teams coordinator and tight ends coach at Georgia. He spent 2011-15 at Virginia Tech and was an assistant at South Carolina before that.

Here is what Lincoln Riley said about his prowess as a head coach.

“Shane’s going to be a really good head coach,” said Lincoln Riley during the Big 12 teleconference two Mondays ago. “He’s got great experience, being able to work with several different guys and several different programs, different parts of the country. And obviously, you know, very inside knowledge from one of the best to ever do it in his dad, Frank Beamer.

“Shane’s got a good way about him. Does a great job with the kids and has been fantastic. I’ll be excited for him. He’s one of those guys that I think certainly will get his opportunity at some point. Obviously, we love having him here. Certainly will be excited for him and any of our other coaches when they get that chance to be a head coach because those just don’t come around very often.”

Oklahoma last lost an offensive coach whenever Jay Boulware went to Texas after the 2019 season.

Beamer was not at Oklahoma’s game against Baylor on Saturday night. Sooners Wire is led to believe that is not for him taking the job at South Carolina, but for COVID-19 issues the Sooners are dealing with.

Oklahoma assistant coach Shane Beamer not on sidelines for Baylor game

OU assistant coach Shane Beamer is not on the sidelines for the Sooners game against Baylor tonight. OU would not confirm the reason why.

No. 11 Oklahoma is currently hosting Baylor in their home finale of the season hoping to run their win streak up to six games.

After missing last week’s game with West Virginia due to a COVID-19 outbreak among the players and coaches, many were keeping a watchful eye out to who would be at the stadium tonight for the game.

The Sooners did get several key players back tonight after missing them for Bedlam, but are missing a medley of others.

On the coaching front, Oklahoma looks to have most of their staff back tonight as well although one noted absence is assistant head coach for offense, tight ends and H-backs Shane Beamer.

Beamer is considered a solid candidate for the South Carolina head coaching vacancy, but that is believed to be unrelated to this absence. An Oklahoma spokesperson would not confirm or deny he is coaching against Baylor.

Sooners Wire will provide more updates on the situation as we get them.

Oklahoma currently holds a 3-0 lead on Baylor in the first quarter.

Former Tennessee assistant a candidate for South Carolina head coaching position

Former Tennessee assistant a candidate for South Carolina head coaching position.

South Carolina relieved head coach Will Muschamp of his duties in November.

The Gamecocks are looking to fill its vacant head coaching position and a former Tennessee graduate assistant is a candidate at South Carolina.

Shane Beamer is currently serving as assistant head coach and overseeing tight ends at Oklahoma. He was a graduate assistant for the Vols from 2001-03 for Phillip Fulmer.

Beamer has held his current position with the Sooners since 2018.

Prior to arriving at Oklahoma, Beamer was tight ends coach and also oversaw special teams at Georgia (2016-17). He also coached running backs for his father, Frank Beamer, at Virginia Tech (2011-15).

Beamer has a history coaching at South Carolina, serving as the Gamecocks’ cornerbacks coach (2007-08) and overseeing linebackers and special teams (2009-10) for Steve Spurrier.

He also spent three seasons (2004-06) coaching cornerbacks at Mississippi State.

Beamer played wide receiver and was a long snapper at Virginia Tech (1995-99).

Oklahoma’s Shane Beamer reportedly interviewed for South Carolina job, a strong candidate for it

Oklahoma has been able to keep its offensive coaching staff together for the most part since Lincoln Riley arrived. That may be changing.

Oklahoma has been able to keep its offensive coaching staff together for the most part since Lincoln Riley arrived.

The only member to leave was Jay Boulware, who went to Texas, and was eventually replaced by DeMarco Murray. Cale Gundy, Dennis Simmons, Bill Bedenbaugh and Shane Beamer (who was hired as the 10th assistant in 2018) have been key cogs to Oklahoma’s offensive success.

Now, the second departure may be on the horizon.

Beamer has been a hot name in the coaching ranks since the start of last offseason. Now, he’ll begin his first head coaching process.

On Friday, Beamer reportedly interviewed for the South Carolina head coaching job. The Gamecocks recently let Will Muschamp go after a dismal 28-30 record in five seasons.

Beamer, the current assistant head coach for offense, tight ends and H-backs coach at Oklahoma, came to the Sooners after spending two years as the special teams coordinator and tight ends coach at Georgia. He spent 2011-15 at Virginia Tech and was an assistant at South Carolina before that.

“Shane’s going to be a really good head coach,” said Lincoln Riley during the Big 12 teleconference last Monday. “He’s got great experience, being able to work with several different guys and several different programs, different parts of the country. And obviously, you know, very inside knowledge from one of the best to ever do it in his dad, Frank Beamer.

He’s one of those guys that I think certainly will get his opportunity at some point. Obviously, we love having him here. Certainly will be excited for him and any of our other coaches when they get that chance to be a head coach because those just don’t come around very often.”

Riley also said that him being linked to the South Carolina job won’t be a distraction for the team.
