Twitter reacts: South Carolina hires Shane Beamer as head coach

The South Carolina Gamecocks have hired Shane Beamer as their head coach. Beamer previously coached under Kirby Smart at UGA.

The South Carolina Gamecocks have hired Shane Beamer as their head coach. The Gamecocks recently fired Will Muschamp, who played football for the University of Georgia from 1991-1994.

Shane Beamer is the son of legendary Virginia Tech coach Frank Beamer. Shane will look to replicate some of his father’s success with the Gamecocks.

Shane Beamer has a lot of good coaching ties. He coached under Kirby Smart at Georgia as tight ends coach and special teams coordinator from 2016-2018. Beamer then left to become assistant head coach under Lincoln Riley at Oklahoma.

Beamer’s previously had coaching stints under Steve Spurrier at South Carolina, under Phillip Fulmer at Tennessee, and more. Shane Beamer has been around some of the top minds in college football coaching, but he will have a tall task ahead of himself at South Carolina. The Gamecocks are struggling in recruiting and are regularly getting outclassed by Clemson.
