NFL great congratulates new Notre Dame record holder

Classy move by a Notre Dame great!

Saturday’s senior day game with Boston College wound up being a blowout of epic proportions for Notre Dame. The Irish dominated from the opening kickoff on the cold and snowy South Bend afternoon.

One of the many highlights came on the final play of the first half. Notre Dame defensive lineman Isaiah Foskey sacked Boston College quarterback Emmett Morehead. It was the 25th career sack by Foskey, a Notre Dame record.

Shortly after, the man who’s record he broke took to Twitter to congratulate Foskey.

Hopefully, a regular-season finale victory at USC is next up for Foskey before a pro career we can all hope is half as great as Tuck’s was.

Notre Dame blows out Boston College: Instant takeaways

An absolutely perfect senior day for Notre Dame!

If you were to script a perfect senior day for a team, not in national championship contention, it would go exactly as things went at Notre Dame  Stadium on Saturday.  Sure, Boston College isn’t really close to being the most-hated rival of the Fighting Irish but they’re a pesky one that has caused quite a bit of heartbreak over the years.

This game was an embarrassment of riches for the Irish who now turn their heads to Thanksgiving weekend in Los Angeles where they’ll try to ruin USC’s College Football Playoff dreams.  We’ll get to that game next week and have extensive cross-polination\ with Trojans Wire, but we’ll celebrate today in a big way for now.

Here are a variety of instant takeaways and thoughts from Notre Dame’s domination of Boston College on Saturday afternoon.

Notre Dame-Boston College: Pregame buzz on Twitter

The pregame buzz ahead of Notre Dame-Boston College on this gameday.

For the final time in 2022, Notre Dame will play at home as Boston College comes-a-calling.  The Fighting Irish are a sizeable favorite but take on an opponent that has created its fair share of celebrations at Notre Dame Stadium over the years.  Fortunately for the Irish, none have taken place since 2007.

Senior day is always a weird roller coaster of emotions, too.  In recent years we’ve seen plenty of slow starts by Notre Dame before they ultimately rolled to victories.  Last year against Georgia Tech was an exception, but Syracuse in 2020, Boston College in 2019, and 2017 against Navy were all struggle fests for the majority of the first half, if not for longer.

Frigid conditions are upon us in South Bend as we’re a few hours from kickoff.  Here is how some of those on social media are settling in as they get ready for Notre Dame-Boston College this afternoon.

Tale of the Tape: Team Stats – Notre Dame vs. Boston College

Feeling good about the Irish’s chances?

Notre Dame appears to have a clear edge over Boston College as the teams prepare to meet during senior day at Notre Dame Stadium. Some areas give the Irish a bigger advantage than others, which is no surprise in any matchup. The biggest ones include first downs, third-down success and scoring. Also, the Irish are a better team on both offense and defense, and that should play the biggest factor of all.

We know the Eagles have been struggling this season, but some areas are flat-out awful. Their rushing offense is the worst in the country, and they just don’t gain a lot of yardage. That said, they do have a much better passing game, but will that even play a factor given their uncertainty at quarterback and the wintry forecast for South Bend? While we won’t know for sure until the game is played, it doesn’t look great for the Eagles.

Notre Dame-Boston College: Do Irish make it 8 of 9?

Should Notre Dame be on upset watch on senior day? Boston College has crashed the party in South Bend more than once…

Where did the fall go?  It feels like it was two weeks ago that we were counting down the days until [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag]’s debut season as Notre Dame’s head coach kicked off at Ohio State.  Now we’re hours away from the home finale of 2022.

Man, I don’t know
Where the time goes
But, it sure goes fast

And as of roughly 4:45 p.m. EST on Saturday, we’ll have to wait until the annual spring game to see Notre Dame football in The House that Rockne Built again.

There is a game to play however as Notre Dame looks to continue their ownership of the ACC.  Boston College managed to upset North Carolina State on the road a week ago and would certainly find joy in ruining another afternoon for the Irish in South Bend.  What happens Saturday?  Can the Irish put together 60 minutes of solid play or will it be another version of last week’s game against Navy?

Here is what the Fighting Irish Wire staff sees happening on senior day.

Who to watch in the Irish’s final home game.

Notre Dame has no choice but to dust itself off after it nearly gave away its game against Navy. Time to focus on preparing for senior day against Boston College. Hopefully, the Eagles won’t be added to list of inferior teams that have beaten the Irish in 2022. If you’re heading to Notre Dame Stadium’s final game this season, here are the players to watch:

Michigan State took care of business on Sunday, knocking off the Maryland Terrapins, 77-67, in front of a sold-out Breslin Center on Senior Day. The Spartans honored their four seniors: Gabe Brown, Joey Hauser, Marcus Bingham Jr. and Michael Peterson, and sent them off with a victory.

As he does every year, MSU head coach Tom Izzo went on the mic to address the crowd after the game and after the senior day festivities.

Notre Dame seniors’ best scoring games at Purcell Pavilion

Take a look back at these memorable performances.

Notre Dame’s graduating class will get one final opportunity to show itself off during senior day at Purcell Pavilion. Although there still will be a few meaningful things to play for against Pittsburgh, the significance of day shouldn’t be lost on any of them. After all, graduating players get only one opportunity to be honored for their years of service to the program, so this is the time to let it all soak in.

Over the past few years, the Irish’s six seniors and one graduate student have had plenty of opportunities to put points on the Purcell Pavilion scoreboard. Some efforts have produced better results than others. As they prepare to take their home court for the last time, let’s take a look at the scoring performances that they haven’t been able to top. Maybe one of these games will be replaced by this upcoming one, but this is their last chance to top themselves in South Bend.
