Notre Dame all-time great Justin Tuck visits with Fighting Irish Wire

Find out if Eli Manning sawed his Super Bowl MVP trophies in half to share with Tuck like he should have?

Few in the history of Notre Dame football have been as dominant defensively as former defensive end [autotag]Justin Tuck[/autotag].

Before his NFL career that lasted more than a decade and resulted in a pair of Super Bowl victories, Tuck set a then-Notre Dame record by recording 24.5 sacks in blue in gold.  That record has since been passed by [autotag]Isaiah Foskey[/autotag] but it’s worth noting that Tuck accomplished his feat in just three seasons.

Tuck was working with DIRECTV over the weekend as the company has become the presenting sponsor of the Jeweled Shillelagh Rivalry between Notre Dame and USC for 2023 and 2024.  Before the game he was in attendance for this past weekend, Tuck was kind enough to spend a few minutes with Fighting Irish Wire.

Take a listen to the interview below as Tuck discusses his must-stops whenever he returns to campus, why he chose Notre Dame over his pick of SEC programs, his thoughts/advice for [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag], and his legend as a basketball player on Notre Dame’s campus.

And finally, we discuss his two Super Bowl victories as a player and if he thinks Eli Manning should have won both game MVP’s.  Check it out below and hit subscribe as we plan to bring more interviews and content to you in podcast form soon!

Watch: Isaiah Foskey dominates Michigan offensive tackle at Senior Bowl practice

Like a hot knife through butter

There has been a different kind of buzz around the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama this week as some have been asking if it’s anywhere near the marquee draft evaluation exhibition it once was.  While opinions on that differ depending who you ask the thing that remains consistent is the importance of practices being far greater than the actual game.

Practices are underway ahead of this weekend’s game and one player drawing a lot of attention is Notre Dame edge rusher [autotag]Isaiah Foskey[/autotag].  Foskey set the Fighting Irish record for career sacks, passing [autotag]Justin Tuck[/autotag] on senior day this past November.  It won’t go down in any record books but he also flat-out owned Michigan offensive tackle Ryan Hayes in a one-on-one drill Tuesday.  Take a look below.

I don’t want to blow this out of the water as Hayes isn’t anywhere near the top tackles in this draft but he’s still projected by most to safely get drafted.  He also played tackle on the team that won the Joe Moore Award for being the nation’s best offensive line this past year.

All that and Isaiah Foskey went through him like he a hot knife through butter.  Easy, Isaiah.  That young man has a family too you know…

Notre Dame All-American declares for NFL draft

All the best to one of the best!

As expected, Notre Dame’s Vyper defender and all-time program sacks leader [autotag]Isaiah Foskey[/autotag] is headed to the NFL draft.  Foskey announced his decision on Thursday although anyone paying the least bit of attention knew this was coming.

Foskey’s sack on the final play before halftime of Notre Dame’s senior day rout of Boston College moved him ahead of Justin Tuck on Notre Dame’s all-time list.  For good measure, he added one more against likely Heisman Trophy winner Caleb Williams a week later.

In addition to his 26.5 career sacks, Foskey also recorded 122 career tackles and forced seven fumbles.  There is no guarantee he’ll go in the first round but we feel incredibly safe saying he won’t make it past the second round.

All the best in the NFL to one of the best to do it in blue and gold (and sometimes green).

Check out the best photos of Foskey during his Notre Dame career below!

NFL great congratulates new Notre Dame record holder

Classy move by a Notre Dame great!

Saturday’s senior day game with Boston College wound up being a blowout of epic proportions for Notre Dame. The Irish dominated from the opening kickoff on the cold and snowy South Bend afternoon.

One of the many highlights came on the final play of the first half. Notre Dame defensive lineman Isaiah Foskey sacked Boston College quarterback Emmett Morehead. It was the 25th career sack by Foskey, a Notre Dame record.

Shortly after, the man who’s record he broke took to Twitter to congratulate Foskey.

Hopefully, a regular-season finale victory at USC is next up for Foskey before a pro career we can all hope is half as great as Tuck’s was.

Isaiah Foskey becomes Notre Dame’s all-time sacks leader

Congratulations on a new record! Great way to celebrate senior day!

The first half of Notre Dame’s senior day contest against Boston College was as close to perfect as a half could be played.  The final play of the first half was undeniable perfection.

Already trailing 37-0, Boston College dropped back to pass on second down to try and get something going.  The problem with that?  The Eagles nothingness of offense continued as Notre Dame senior defensive lineman Isaiah Foskey put a bow on the first half in record fashion.

Foskey sacked freshman quarterback Emmett Moorehead for a loss of 11 yards an all-time Notre Dame record.  It was Foskey’s 25th career sack which is the most by a single player in the history of the program.

Check out some of the Notre Dame greats over the years who now all look up at Foskey on the all-time sacks list.

Michael Strahan the latest Giants great to visit team

New York Giants legend Michael Strahan was back in East Rutherford on Thursday visiting the team one day after Justin Tuck did the same.

Ever since Michael Strahan walked away from football following Super Bowl XLII, he has waded through a very successful and constantly expanding media career.

However, Strahan remains a staple in the New York Giants community as one of the team’s more famous alumni.

Strahan is frequently around the Giants and it even seems that he’s made himself available for rookie Kayvon Thibodeaux as a mentor. Ironically enough, Strahan’s former teammate actually sees himself in Thibodeaux.

Earlier this week, former Giant and two-time Super Bowl champion Justin Tuck stopped by the Giants facility to visit the current Giants team.

On Thursday, Strahan stopped by camp to see the Giants at work.

Having Strahan at practice gives the team someone to talk to about what it takes to compete in the league. Strahan is one of the greatest players to ever put on a Giants uniform — and arguably among the greatest NFL players of all-time.

Although it has been quite a few years since Strahan hung up the cleats, he will always be welcome at the Giants facility. Strahan was a part of the elite defensive line that took down Tom Brady and the undefeated Patriots back in Super Bowl XLII.

Justin Tuck visits East Rutherford, gives speech to Giants players

New York Giants great Justin Tuck visited East Rutherford on Wednesday and spoke to Giants players.

The New York Giants entertained a familiar face at their OTA practice on Wednesday when they were paid a visit by two-time Super Bowl champion and former defensive captain Justin Tuck.

Also in attendance was the Stanley Cup, which the New York Rangers are vying for at the moment in NHL Playoffs. Over the years, Tuck has been a regular at rangers games at Madison Square Garden.

Tuck informally addressed the team. Since there was no media access, it is unknown what he told them.

The Giants close out their OTAs this week and will conduct their mandatory minicamp next week, June 7-9.

Former Giants DL Justin Tuck tweets out hilarious response to receiving cards of Ravens K Justin Tucker

Former Giants defensive lineman Justin Tuck tweeted out a funny response after receiving cards of Ravens kicker Justin Tucker

The Baltimore Ravens have been lucky to have the ability to call kicker Justin Tucker’s name whenever they need three points. Whether it’s in a clutch situation or simply a chip-shot, Tucker is as reliable as they come.

Tucker has been in Baltimore for many years, but one player who never put on a Ravens jersey throughout his career is former New York Giants defensive end Justin Tuck. Tucker and Tuck have very similar names, and sometimes that causes a bit of confusion. In the most recent example of getting the two mixed up, Tuck tweeted out a hilarious response to receiving cards of Tucker that someone wanted him to sign.

This isn’t the first time that Tuck and Tucker have been mistaken for each other based off of their names. Tuck has offered his thoughts on the mix ups.

This was all most likely an honest misunderstanding, but it makes sense why Tuck mentions that everyone should double check, especially when it comes to things that can be easily confused. Tuck and Tucker are awfully similar names, but they both have distinguished NFL legacies that will never be forgotten.

Giants great Justin Tuck to be inducted into Alabama Sports Hall of Fame

New York Giants great Justin Tuck will be inducted into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame in May.

The other seven inductees are Philip Rivers and William Andrews (football), Jake Peavy, Rusty Greer and Doyle Alexander (baseball), Patrick Murphy (softball) and Keith Askins (basketball).

Tuck was born March 29, 1983 in Kellyton, Alabama and attended the University of Notre Dame where he redshirted his freshman year and played three seasons with the Irish. He set several school records despite struggling with an ACL injury in his final season. His sophomore season he set the school record with 13.5 sacks and 43 tackles for loss. He holds the school record with 24.5 career sacks.

In 2005, he was drafted by the New York Giants in the third round of the NFL Draft.

During his career, Tuck won two Super Bowl titles (XLII, XLVI), was a two-time Pro-Bowler (2008, 2010), second-team All-Pro (2010), first-team All-Pro (2008), and was presented with the New York Giants Ring of Honor in 2016. He had 510 career tackles, 66.5 sacks, 22 forced fumbles, and three interceptions.

And now, of course, Justin Tuck.
