Texas A&M Women’s Tennis win SEC title

The Aggies Women’s Tennis team defeated Kentucky to win the SEC Title

The Women’s tennis team has been dominant all season long earning them a No. 2 ranking with a 24-1 overall record. There was no doubt they would also take the regular season crown as they went undefeated in league play at 12-0.

Coach Mark Weaver has turned the team into a tennis juggernaut, especially over the last two seasons with a 57-3 overall record, a perfect 25-0 SEC record, and making it to the NCAA Quarterfinals last year. Having secured their second SEC title in as many years they are a strong contender to go deep into NCAAs

Below is what he had to say about winning back-to-back titles:

“Clinching back-to-back SEC titles doesn’t happen very often, and it comes down to the great group we have. Playing at this level consistently is extremely difficult, but our girls handled the pressure all year and I couldn’t be more proud of them.”

They will close out their regular season against Vanderbilt, on April 16th, at the Currey Tennis Center in Nashville, Tennessee. The first serve is at 11 am.

Alabama knocks off Texas A&M to win program’s eighth SEC Tournament Title

The No. 1 seed Alabama Crimson Tide defeated the No. 2 seed Texas A&M Aggies in Sunday’s SEC Championship Game by a final score of 82-63.

The Alabama men’s basketball team secured its eighth conference title with a 82-63 win over Texas A&M in Sunday’s SEC Championship. The Tide have solidified themselves as a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

Alabama was led by the trio of Charles Bediako, Brandon Miller, and Jahvon Quinerly.

Bediako played one of the best games of his college career on Sunday. The Canadian scored 12 points while grabbing 13 rebounds. He also added five blocks.

Quinerly provided a huge boost to the Tide’s scoring efforts in the first half. The senior added 22 points having shot 8-14 from the field and 4-8 from the three-point line.

As for Miller, he was the spark that Alabama needed to pull away in the second half. Miller finished the game with 23 points, 12 rebounds, three assists, and three steals. He was also awarded as the MVP of the SEC Tournament.

The Tide will wait to see how their side of the bracket stacks up. The NCAA selection committee is set to reveal the bracket at 5 CST on CBS. As mentioned, Alabama is sure to receive a No. 1 seed. They also have a strong chance of receiving the No. 1 overall seed for the NCAA Tournament.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow the Alabama basketball program as postseason play continues.

Crimson Tide erase 17 point deficit to beat Auburn on senior night

Crimson Tide clinch the SEC with 90-85 victory over in-state rivals

The Alabama Crimson Tide are the 2022-2023 SEC regular season champions for the second time in three years under head coach Nate Oats as they defeated the Auburn Tigers 90-85 on Wednesday night.

The Tide trailed for the majority of the game and by as much as 17 at one point, but they were able to climb back to force overtime and escape with a win. Jahvon Quinerly was the star of the night as he scored 24 crucial points off the bench to give Alabama a huge boost on senior night. Winning the game and clinching the conference is obviously massive, but climbing back from such a deficit against your bitter rivals speaks volumes of this Crimson Tide. No better time to be hot than March.

Despite already locking up the conference, Alabama has one more remaining game against Texas A&M on Saturday before the SEC Tournament starts next week. The win today locked up the No. 1 seed in the tournament and they will benefit from a few bye rounds.

Look: Arkansas Soccer receives SEC Championship rings

The rings that the three-time defending SEC champs received are spectacular.

If you win the SEC three straight times, you deserve a spectacular prize.

That is what the Arkansas Razorbacks soccer team got this week, as they received their rings for winning the SEC championship last season.

The Razorbacks finished the season with a 19-4-1 record, and an incredible 9-1 mark in SEC play. After dropping their first two games of the 2021 season to powers Duke and North Carolina on the road, Arkansas went on to win 14 straight games before dropping the regular-season finale to LSU, 4-2 in Baton Rouge.

The Razorbacks got revenge on the Tigers the following weekend at the SEC Tournament in Orange Beach, Ala., defeating the Tigers, 2-1.

In the NCAA Tournament, Arkansas won three straight home games to set up a date in the Elite 8 at Rutgers. The game ended in a 2-2 tie, however, the Razorbacks lost to the Scarlet Knights in penalty kicks, 4-2, ending their season.

The Razorbacks look to begin the season next month. The official schedule has yet to be released.

Why this year’s win against Georgia was the sweetest of all

This one hit different.

When it was all said and done, the confetti fell on Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide in Atlanta once again.

Alabama, under Saban’s tutelage, won its 10th SEC Championship game since the game’s inception in 1992 against Kirby Smart’s then-No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs. And it did so as underdogs, a role seldom occupied by a Saban-coached program in recent years.

Among all of the great wins over Georgia in recent memory — from the Blackout in 2008 to second-and-26 in the 2018 CFP national championship — this one will go down as the best, and I can give you reasons.

While many recent matchups against the Bulldogs could be chosen as instant classics, this one takes the cake as the greatest. The Tide hadn’t gone into a game this big as an underdog since being a one-point dog to UGA in 2015. But there were media pundits giving Alabama a premature burial and obituary pregame.

Just a handful of experts picked the Crimson Tide to win, but that included all of us on staff here at Roll Tide Wire.

Georgia fans spent a large majority of the week leading up to the game barking reasons why the Tide couldn’t win and why this was finally the year Kirby Smart exacted revenge for all three (now four) of Saban’s transgressions against him. This is the main ingredient of the satisfaction many of us experienced when the final whistle sounded.

These last couple of weeks were enlightening. We learned that Georgia never learns who daddy is, Nick Saban is still the king of college football and Alabama remains the force to be reckoned with at this level of the sport.

If it were to come down to a rematch in the 2022 CFP national championship, I foresee Georgia supporters getting the same mindset again, claiming victory prior to kickoff, just to be burned again.

That daunting and prolific UGA defense we heard Bulldogs fans tout before the game was picked apart by Bryce Young and a talented corps of wide receivers that didn’t even include John Metchie III after the second quarter.

If you’re reading this and still haven’t figured out why I believe this is the best win over Georgia in recent Alabama history, it’s in part because of the tears that rolled postgame when that familiar confetti rained down on the Crimson Tide once again.

Here’s to one of the sweetest Rammer Jammers ever recited.

Stay tuned to Roll Tide Wire for all the latest on the Crimson Tide!
