SEC schools ranked academically by U.S. News for 2022-23

Listing SEC schools by academic quality according to U.S. News & World Report ‘Best Colleges’ rankings

The Southeastern Conference is widely recognized for its athletic dominance. However, many of its universities also have a strong academic reputation that often goes overlooked.

According to U.S. News & World Report’s 2022 Best Colleges rankings, five of the SEC’s 14 schools rank within the top 100 national universities. These rankings take into account factors such as graduation rates, faculty resources, and student outcomes.

Using U.S. News’ rankings as a guide, we will rank the SEC universities by their academic reputation:

Hunter butchers deer in front of school, offers decent excuse

A Pennsylvania hunter has upset some of his neighbors by hanging a deer from a tree outside his home and butchering the carcass in front of a middle school.

A Pennsylvania hunter has upset some of his neighbors by hanging a deer from a tree outside his home and butchering the carcass in front of a middle school.

“I got a grandchild just down the street, and I think it would really upset him to see a gutted deer hanging upside down in a front yard,” Gene James told CBS Pittsburgh.

The story mentions that other neighbors also expressed anger, but does not identify them.

One neighbor, Jodi Good, said, “My dad and my brothers are hunters, so I have no problem with it.”

Perhaps surprisingly, Lucas Smith, the hunter who lives across from Greensburg Salem Middle School, might have been the most upset of all.

Smith, who was processing the deer he bagged last week, told CBS Pittsburgh: “I feel terrible doing it in front of the school [but] this is where I live. I have no other choice.

“I have no other trees in my yard. If I did, I’d be doing it there.”

The report did not include input from faculty or students.

Mama bear, cub ride school playground slides; ‘Try not to smile’

A mama bear and her intrepid cub could not resist the temptation recently to climb aboard a playground apparatus and zip down its slippery slides.

A mama bear and her intrepid cub could not resist the temptation Tuesday to climb aboard a playground apparatus and zip down its slides.

“There was a little playground takeover this afternoon as teachers were leaving for the day,” reads the Facebook description by Isaac Dickson Elementary School in Asheville, N.C. “Watch the whole video and try not to smile.”

The footage, captured by Betsie Stockslager Emry, shows mama bear acting like any responsible parent, going first on the larger slide, then encouraging her cub to try the smaller slide.

“You can do this one, honey. It’s a smaller one,” one of the teachers mimics mama bear in the video. “You can do it!”

The teachers seemed to enjoy the bears’ playtime as much as the bruins enjoyed their bonding experience, and the school assured that “all kiddos were safely inside at this time.”

Stephen Curry on making his long-awaited return from injury: ‘It feels like the first day of school’

After missing four months due to injury, Stephen Curry is clear to make his long-awaited return to the court.

It has been a long process for Stephen Curry to make his return to the basketball court. The injured point guard has missed 58 games for the Golden State Warriors since breaking his left hand against the Phoenix Suns in only the fourth contest of the new season.

After going through a lengthy rehab, Curry is finally clear to make his much-anticipated return to the floor on Thursday night. The two-time Most Valuable Player will suit up against the Toronto Raptors at Chase Center in San Francisco.

Curry spoke to reporters at Golden State’s morning shootaround about his return to the court for the first time in four months.

Via Connor Letourneau of the San Francisco Chronicle:

I’m excited. Coming into this year, I was excited to compete and see what the season held in terms of our transition as an organization. Obviously, that was taken away pretty quickly. Four months to just get ready for a day like today, where a lot of hard work has gone into the rehab. So many people helped me get to this point, where I’m confident in getting back out on the floor and getting back to what I love to do. Joining my guys who have been through a lot this season — trying to finish this season on a strong note. It feels like the first day of school pretty much all over again, which is exciting. I feel pretty comfortable, pretty confident in where I’m at physically. Just excited to get back out there.

All eyes will be on Curry against the defending NBA champion Raptors on Thursday night. Following Toronto, the six-time All-Star will have 19 games remaining in the 2019-20 season to work back from injury.
