Star offensive lineman to announce college choice Friday

Does he end up Irish?

Somebody is going to be getting a highly sought after offensive lineman recruit this Friday afternoon when [autotag]Sullivan Absher[/autotag] of Belmont, North Carolina announces his college decision.

Absher is rated as four star recruit according to 247Sports as they rank him as the 201st best player nationally in the 2023 recruiting cycle.  He stands as a mountain of a young man at 6-7, weighing 290-pounds and Notre Dame is joined by Clemson and North Carolina State as his three finalists.

Absher will make his announcement at 4:00 p.m. ET on CBS Sports HQ.  Notre Dame currently has one offensive lineman committed in the 2023 class, [autotag]Sam Pendleton[/autotag] who is also from North Carolina.

Check out highlights of Absher below.

Notre Dame offensive line target sets commitment day for next week

Does he stay local or head to South Bend???

The Irish continue to have one of the best 2023 recruiting classes in the country and are not nearly finished adding quality prospects to the mix. Recently, defensive end Boubacar Traore joined the fold and potentially another name to add to the list later today as another defensive lineman Devan Houstan is set to make his verbal commitment this afternoon.

For North Carolina offensive lineman Sullivan Absher, the time is near for him to make his commitment. The six-foot-seven-inch and 290-pound mauler announced via his Twitter account yesterday that he will make his verbal pledge next Friday, May 13th, at 4pm EST. His final three school include the Irish, NC State and Clemson.

The Irish have been in the mix for Absher for a while and picking up a commitment from him would be a very impressive recruiting win. With just one other current offensive lineman committed, North Carolina’s Sam Pendleton, Absher would not only fill a need but the Irish would beat out two ACC foes for his commitment.

Notre Dame among finalists for offensive lineman who is set to announce commitment Wednesday

Any chance at an upset here?

Notre Dame received their first offensive lineman commitment in the 2023 recruiting class when [autotag]Sam Pendleton[/autotag] announced he’d be attending Notre Dame on April 25.  Could a second offensive lineman commitment be coming soon?

Middletown (Ohio) Lakota product [autotag]Austin Siereveld[/autotag] is set to announce his college choice Wednesday afternoon and the Irish are among the three finalists along with Ohio State and Alabama.

Although finalists for his commitment it would appear that both Notre Dame and Alabama are significant underdogs to land the commitment as all five experts at 247Sports predict him to choose the Buckeyes.

Siereveld is listed at 6-5, 315 pounds and is projected to play on the inside in college.  247Sports rates him as a four-star prospect and the 351st overall prospect in the 2023 recruiting cycle.

You can watch Siereveld announce his college choice today at 3:15 p.m. ET on CBS Sports HQ.

Notre Dame adds first offensive lineman to 2023 recruiting class

The tenth commit is an offensive lineman

The Irish continue their momentum from the Blue vs. Gold game into Monday as they did not have to wait very long to add a commitment to the 2023 recruiting class. North Carolina offensive lineman Sam Pendleton made his verbal pledge to the Irish, with Notre Dame beating schools like Clemson,  Florida, Michigan, Penn State, North Carolina and others for Pendleton’s commitment.

At six-feet-four-inches and 305-pounds Pendleton projects as either a right tackle or could slide inside to either guard position. He’s a bit on the smaller side to play the coveted left tackle position, but plenty of size to play on the other side.

Pendleton becomes the tenth commit in the 2023 Irish recruiting class that is rated as one of the best in the country at this point of the cycle.

Clemson misses out on priority four-star tackle

Clemson just missed out on a big-time offensive lineman recruit after Notre Dame added him to its 2023 class.

Clemson failed to add its fourth 2023 commitment on Monday after four-star offensive tackle Sam Pendleton selected Notre Dame over the Tigers.

Although the 6-foot-4 305 pounder received an offer from Clemson on Jan. 14 and called it a “dream offer,” Notre Dame offered the junior on March 16 and won the sweepstakes as a late contender. Among the other finalists were Michigan, N.C. State and Penn State.

According to 247Sports Composite, Pendleton is ranked as the 342nd recruit in the nation. With his decision, Notre Dame gained its tenth commitment in its 2023 recruiting class, which currently sits at No. 1 in the country.

Despite losing Pendleton, Clemson still has nine other offers to 2023 offensive linemen.

Notre Dame soon to land offensive line commitment?

Harry’s on it!

Notre Dame has gotten off to a stellar start defensively in the 2023 recruiting class but the offensive side has been a little bit slower to come about.  That could soon be changing however as a pair of Notre Dame targets are set to announce their college decisions in the next week.

Four-star wide receiver [autotag]Braylon James[/autotag] is set to announce his college choice Tuesday night as Notre Dame is joined by [autotag]Stanford[/autotag] and [autotag]TCU[/autotag] as his three finalists.

Now interior offensive lineman Sam Pendleton of North Carolina is set to make his college choice known.  Pendleton tweeted that he’ll be making his decision known on Monday, April 25.  Pendleton didn’t do what most recruits do these days and name other finalists, instead simply stating that his announcement will soon be coming.

Four-star offensive tackle sets commitment date

One of Clemson’s top 2023 recruit targets has set his commitment date.

Four-star 2023 offensive tackle and Clemson target Sam Pendleton has set his commitment date for April 25 at 6:30 p.m EDT.

Clemson offered Pendleton on Jan. 14 and is the 12th best recruit in North Carolina, according to 247Sports Composite.

The 6-foot-4 305 pounder visited Clemson in late January, and although Pendleton initially said Clemson’s offer was a “dream offer,” his recruitment has heated up.

“They sit pretty well with me,” he said in an interview with The Clemson Insider. “I definitely have felt a lot of love from them but there’s some other schools that are really starting to climb up for me, starting to match that Clemson energy right now.”

Notre Dame offered Pendleton on March 16, and according to 247Sports’ crystal ball projection, the Fighting Irish are now the favorite to land the lineman.

With Pendleton recruitment less than one week away, Clemson could add to its 2023 class that is No. 28 in the country.

Top O-line target says relationship with Tigers is ‘really on the upswing’

The Clemson Insider recently caught up with one of Clemson’s top offensive line targets in the 2023 class to get the latest on his recruitment and where things stand with the Tigers at this point in the process.

Reagan High School (Pfafftown, N.C.) four-star Sam Pendleton has continued to communicate frequently with Clemson since he was on campus in late January for the Tigers’ elite junior day.

“Clemson was a really great visit,” Pendleton said. “I got to have some really great opportunities to talk to (offensive line) coach (Thomas) Austin and talk with coach (Dabo) Swinney a little bit about how I fit in the program and just talk ball a little bit. Ever since I’ve gotten back, it’s just phone calls and FaceTimes and really just been keeping in contact pretty well.”

Pendleton (6-5, 295) speaks primarily with Austin, but hears from Swinney occasionally as well.

How is his bond with the Tigers developing, and what’s their message to him?

“I feel like our relationship has gotten better and better as time goes on,” he said. “I get a lot of mail from them. I get a lot of text messages, lots of phone calls. They’re always keeping me in the loop, always texting me every week, if not every other day. So, I feel like our relationship is really on the upswing right now.

“With regards to hearing stuff from them, we just continue to talk about how I’d fit into the program and what would happen when I get there, if that were what I pursue, what they could do for me in terms of as a human and as a ballplayer, just stuff like that.”

Both Swinney and Austin have made a great impression on Pendleton, who received an offer from Clemson this past January.

“I really like and have a lot of respect for Coach Swinney. I have a lot of respect for Coach Austin,” he said. “Coach Swinney’s obviously a veteran to the game. He does a really great job in all aspects. He’s a really great recruiter, which he doesn’t really have to be, because it’s Dabo Swinney.”

Naturally, it took some time for Pendleton to get to know Austin after he took over for Robbie Caldwell as Clemson’s new O-line coach earlier this year, but Pendleton said their relationship is “definitely getting better.”

“Their work with his transitioning, it was a little tough to kind of have a relationship,” he added. “But now lately once he’s finally been in a concrete position for a while, gotten his feet under him, he’s been a lot more intentional about relationships and building a bond between his recruits.”

On Feb. 1, Pendleton dropped a top five featuring Clemson along with Michigan, NC State, Penn State and Virginia Tech, while Miami, Florida and Tennessee are among other schools on his list of around two dozen offers that he said are showing a lot of interest.

In addition to Clemson, Pendleton has been to Michigan, North Carolina, NC State, Penn State, Tennessee and Virginia Tech this year. He received an offer from Notre Dame two weeks ago and was planning to visit South Bend soon.

What’s the next step for Pendleton in his recruiting process?

“I’m probably going to take these visits in the spring, really sink into it and figure out where I stand with certain schools, and go from there,” he said.

Where does Clemson stand with him right now?

“They sit pretty well with me,” he said. “I definitely have felt a lot of love from them but there’s some other schools that are really starting to climb up for me, starting to match that Clemson energy right now.”

Pendleton is ranked by Rivals as the No. 21 offensive tackle and No. 239 overall prospect in the country for the 2023 class.

This big-time 4-star offensive lineman sets visit in April

Four-star offensive lineman Sam Pendleton has set a two-day visit to Florida in April.

Four-star offensive lineman [autotag]Sam Pendleton[/autotag] has been a major target for coach [autotag]Billy Napier[/autotag] and staff since Florida offered him in early March. The Gators coaching staff’s relentless pursuit of Pendleton is starting to pay off and he’s now scheduled to visit the Swamp on April 11 and 12 with his family.

The Pfafftown, North Carolina, native is ranked as the 359th overall prospect and the 23rd best player at his position. He told 247Sports that Clemson, Michigan, North Carolina State, Penn State and Virginia Tech are standing out the most in his recruitment so far but added that the Gators are getting there.

Offensive coordinator and offensive line coach [autotag]Rob Sale[/autotag] has been the main point of contact for Florida in Pendleton’s recruitment so far. He looks forward to meeting Sale, Napier and offensive line coach [autotag]Darnell Stapleton[/autotag] in person the most during his visit in April.

Many offensive line prospects, including Pendleton, are intrigued by the idea of having two coaches dealing with the unit. When looking forward to a decision, he wants to go to a school with an emphasis on developing offensive linemen. He said Florida checks that box off because of its two coaches that it has dedicated to the offensive line.

Sale is really high on Pendleton and has told him that he can be a culture changer for his unit. However, he said they still haven’t discussed where the Gators see him fitting the best.

He originally wanted to make a decision in March but is in no rush because of the new offers that have rolled in.
