Former Ohio State tight end finds a new home at Colorado

Grad transfer Sam Hart is heading home. #GoBucks

Sam Hart came to Ohio State in 2021 as a four-star recruit from Colorado. Now the former Buckeye is heading back home as he announced on his personal X account (formerly Twitter) that he will be transferring to Boulder.

Hart entered the transfer portal in January as a grad transfer after three seasons in Columbus. During his time in scarlet and gray, Hart saw action in five games as a redshirt freshman but is still looking for his first collegiate reception. He’ll have a chance to do so under Coach Prime when enrolls at Colorado in June.

With the departures of Cade Stover, Joe Royer, and Hart, Ohio State will lean on Gee Scott Jr, Jelani Thurman, and Bennett Christian to man the tight end position. The Buckeyes will also welcome in freshman Max LeBlanc and Damarion Witten, as well as transfer Will Kacmarek from Ohio University.

Ohio State transfer TE Sam Hart gives commitment to CU Buffs

Sam Hart is coming home

Sam Hart is coming home.

After spending the first three years of his college career at Ohio State, the former Cherokee Trail High School (Aurora) star announced Friday that he’s transferring to Colorado.

Hart is a 6-foot-5, 255-pound tight end who played in only five games — all in 2022 — during his time with the Buckeyes. A former three-star prospect in the 2021 recruiting class, Hart enrolled early at Ohio State in January 2021.

While at Cherokee Trail, his most productive season came in 2019 when he hauled in 31 catches for 562 yards and seven touchdowns. He also won the Class 5A 220-pound state wrestling title during that same junior year.

The expectation is that his run-blocking skills will be heavily utilized next season.

The Buffaloes’ tight ends room, now coached by Brett Bartolone, also picked up a commitment from Cincinnati transfer Chamon Metayer earlier this offseason.

Ranking Ohio State tight ends by 247Sports composite recruiting rankings #GoBucks

The Ohio State football program has six tight ends on scholarship and thank goodness the stud of the group, Cade Stover, is coming back for another season. All six tight ends arrived in Columbus as highly touted recruits, but only Stover has lived up to his potential at moving over from linebacker.

It will be interesting to watch Gee Scott Jr. and his development continue from wide receiver to tight end, but most expected the jump last season to be much bigger. There is still a surprising amount of hype surrounding Joe Royer and there are murmurs that he will see more time than Scott, but only time will tell.

We rank the scholarship tight ends on the roster based on their 247Sports recruiting rankings. Off we go …

Ohio State tight end Sam Hart latest to lose black stripe

Ohio State freshman officially welcomed into the brotherhood. #GoBucks

Midway through the season, the Ohio State football team has officially welcomed another member into the brotherhood. This time coming in the form of Sam Hart, a three-star tight end from Colorado.

Hart committed early in the recruiting cycle all the way back in 2019. He ended up being rated the No. 16 tight end in the 2021 class according to 247Sports composite rankings. Hart was the only tight end in the Buckeyes 2021 class of recruits.

Listen to what Hart had to say after being officially welcomed.

“I just want to thank ya’ll for welcoming me into the brotherhood. I want to thank the defense, the tight end unit, coaches get me better every day, pushing me. Go Bucks!”

With depth at the tight end position, Hart won’t be in the plan for this year. But with some continued work, he could become a presence in the future.
