Twitter jokes about Jameis Winston starting in light of Drew Brees’ recent comments

After Saints quarterback Drew Brees made some controversial comments today, fans on Twitter joked that Jameis Winston should now start.

The past week and a half has seen the topic of social injustice brought to the forefront in our country once again, and NFL players have been voicing their opinions on the matter.

Today, New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees turned some heads with comments many view as controversial and counter to what players are preaching.

Whether or not you agree with Brees, his comments certainly created a stir on Twitter, with many fans joking that former Bucs quarterback Jameis Winston, who signed a one-year deal with the Saints this offseason, should now be the starter instead of the future Hall of Fame quarterback entering 2020.

Take a look at some of the tweets.

Saints receiver Michael Thomas wants to troll haters like Seth Rogen

See why New Orleans Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas wants to be like Seth Rogen.

NFL players have been speaking out en masse recently, and rightfully so, regarding the social injustice in society in light of the death of George Floyd last week, which has sparked outrage and protests both here and aboard.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers players took part in #BlackoutTuesday yesterday in a show of solidarity, and even Bucs coach Bruce Arians got involved. Fellow NFC South resident Michael Thomas of the New Orleans Saints has himself been very active on social media lately regarding recent events, and took some time recently to admire the trolling efforts of movie star Seth Rogen.

Rogen went off on haters the other day on Twitter after voicing his support for BLM, using some not-so-clean language to get his point across. While those tweets aren’t appropriate to post here, Thomas did take notice and showed Rogen love on Twitter.

Drew Brees still doesn’t agree with players protesting during anthem

Drew Brees explains why he will “never agree with anybody disrespecting the flag of the United States of America.”

Players across the NFL have spoken out on the death of George Floyd, who was killed by a Minneapolis police officer after the officer knelt on his neck for nearly nine minutes. Floyd’s death has sparked protests, riots and civil unrest in U.S. cities everywhere, which have continued for about a week.

Drew Brees was asked by Yahoo’s Daniel Roberts on Wednesday how he would feel about players kneeling in protest during the playing of the national anthem once the season starts. Brees’ feelings about kneeling during the anthem haven’t changed despite the current status of our country, saying he’ll never agree with that type of protest.

“Well I will never agree with anybody disrespecting the flag of the United States of America or our country,” he said.

Brees made his stance clear three years ago when he said everyone should be standing for the national anthem, which was in response to Colin Kaepernick’s protest. He disagreed with the way in which Kaepernick went about protesting, and his view of kneeling hasn’t changed.

The Saints quarterback went on to explain his reasoning, saying that he thinks of his two grandfathers who served in the military during World War II.

“Let me just tell you what I see or what I feel when the national anthem is played and when I look at the flag of the United States. I envision my two grandfathers who fought for this country during World War II — one in the Army and one in the Marine Corps. Both risking their lives to protect our country and to try to make our country and this world a better place. So every time I stand with my hand over my heart, looking at that flag and singing the national anthem, that’s what I think about. And in many cases, it brings me to tears thinking about all that has been sacrificed. Not just those in the military, but for that matter, those throughout the civil rights movements of the ’60s and all that has been endured by so many people up until this point. And is everything right with our country right now? No, it’s not. We still have a long way to go, but I think what you do by standing there and showing respect to the flag with your hand over your heart is it shows unity, it shows that we are all in this together, we can all do better, and we are all part of the solution.”

Brees did participate in “Blackout Tuesday” this week, which was a sign of support for those fighting racial inequality and oppression.

Throwback Thursday: Fitzmagic goes off against Saints in Week 1 of the 2018 season

Take a look back at Ryan Fitzpatrick’s memorable game against the New Orleans Saints in Week 1 of the 2018 NFL season.

The NFL is set to release the 2020 schedule tonight, which means we’ll finally know who Tom Brady will face off against in his first game as quarterback of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

While Brady’s first game as a Buccaneer will be a memorable one for sure, it may be hard for him to top the Week 1 performance of former Bucs quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, who went off against the New Orleans Saints in the Superdome back in the 2018 opener.

With Jameis Winston serving a three-game suspension, Fitzpatrick took over the offense for the Bucs, and threw for 417 yards, four touchdowns and zero picks against New Orleans, while also rushing for 36 yards on 12 carries with one score. The Bucs would go on to stun the Saints 48-40.

Take a look back now at highlights from that game.

Jameis Winston’s son has some serious driving skills

New Orleans Saints quarterback Jameis Winston posted this hilarious video of his toddler son driving his power wheels on Instagram.

New Orleans Saints quarterback Jameis Winston has been busy this offseason, working out constantly as he searched for a new team, while also doing his part to help out the Tampa community during the coronavirus pandemic.

As busy as he’s been, though, it’s clear his little boy has been much busier. Check out this video Winston posted recently to Instagram, showing his toddler son driving his little car, falling asleep at the wheel.

Still, his son manages to stay awake long enough to park the car in the garage, in a pretty impressive way, too.

Take a look.

Why the NFL should be hoping Tom Brady signs with the Buccaneers

If the NFL wants to increase its ratings, they should be hoping Tom Brady signs with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

With NFL free agency set to hit later this month, all eyes will likely be on New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, who could very well end up leaving the only franchise he’s ever played for.

Speculation has run rampant on where Brady could end up. From the Los Angeles Chargers to the Las Vegas Raiders, it appears every team in need of a QB upgrade finds themselves on the list of potential suitors. That includes the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who right now seem like more than just a dark horse contender in the Brady sweepstakes.

While it may be hard to envision Brady ditching a Pats uniform for a Bucs one — given that Tampa Bay hasn’t made the postseason since 2007 — if you are a fan of the NFL, or even a fan of football, you want this to happen. And now.

Why?

Every NFC South divisional game featuring the Bucs would be a must-watch prime-time event. Brady and the Bucs facing Drew Brees and the Saints in the Superdome. Brady and the Bucs hosting Matt Ryan’s Atlanta Falcons, a rematch of Super Bowl LI QBs. And, should Cam Newton remain starter with the Carolina Panthers, well, you get the idea…

The NFC South would instantly become the best division in football hands down. The NFL would have a ratings bonanza every time NFC South foes squared off. Vegas sportsbooks would be wild scenes. It just makes so much sense that you’re afraid it’s too good to be true. And, it might be.

But, until Brady puts pen to paper for a team not located in Tampa, it’s fun to dream about how exciting the 2020 NFL season could truly be if he came to the NFC South.

Bucs rookie WR Scotty Miller makes huge 48-yard reception against Saints

See the big reception by sixth-round rookie Scott Miller of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in today’s Week 11 game against the New Orleans Saints.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie wide receiver Scotty Miller had yet to make a huge impact in his limited playing time this season.

The sixth-round pick from the 2019 NFL Draft entered Sunday’s Week 11 contest against the New Orleans Saints with just five receptions for 72 yards on the year.

But, in the second quarter today, Miller had a 48-yard reception, the longest of his career, that was originally ruled as a 49-yard touchdown reception — the first of his career — before replays confirmed Miller was contacted before entering the end zone. The Bucs would eventually get a touchdown out of the drive.

Still, it was the highlight-play of the season for the rookie out of Ball State.

Saints-Bucs: Buccaneers list seven inactives for Week 11

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have listed seven players as inactive for today’s game against the New Orleans Saints.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will take on the New Orleans Saints today in Week 11, looking to build off the momentum of last week’s big win over the Arizona Cardinals.

Despite being just 3-6, the Bucs aren’t completely out of the playoff race just yet. If they can pull off the surprising upset today against the Saints, they could make a serious run down the stretch.

As you can see from the above tweet, the Bucs will be without two pass rushers today in Carl Nassib and Anthony Nelson. Saints quarterback Drew Brees will likely look to take advantage of a Bucs secondary that ranks dead last in the league.

Meanwhile, Bucs wide receiver Mike Evans could make history today against New Orleans. Evans is just 76 yards away from another 1,000-yard season. It would be the sixth-straight to begin his career, tying him with Hall of Famer Randy Moss for the most in NFL history.

Evans was held without a reception in Week 5’s loss to the Saints, but New Orleans will be without cornerback Marshon Lattimore today, so the Pro Bowl receiver could have a monster game at home.

Saints-Bucs Injury Report: Saints rule CB Marshon Lattimore, two others out for Week 11

See which players have been ruled out for Sunday’s Week 11 game between the New Orleans Saints and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Here is the final injury report for both the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New Orleans Saints ahead of Sunday’s Week 11 showdown at Raymond James Stadium.

The Bucs are coming off a busy week. After beating the Arizona Cardinals last Sunday to halt their four-game skid, Tampa Bay made the surprising move of releasing cornerback and former first-round pick Vernon Hargreaves. The move came after the corner was benched in the team’s win over the Cardinals for lack of hustle.

Now, the young secondary of Tampa Bay will be tasked with trying to stop Saints quarterback Drew Brees, who missed Week 5’s matchup with an injured thumb.

At 7-2, New Orleans will look to make up ground in the NFC playoff race after a stunning loss last week to the Atlanta Falcons. The Bucs are 3-6 and still have life them, but will need to play near-perfect football to take down New Orleans..

Fortunately, they won’t have to worry about Saints Pro Bowl cornerback Marshon Lattimore, who has been ruled out for Sunday’s game, meaning Mike Evans could have a monster game.

Evans, who was held without a reception in Week 5’s loss, has averaged 139.0 yards per game since then. He needs just 76 yards on Sunday to hit the 1,000-yard mark for the sixth-straight season, something accomplished only by one other player, Hall of Fame wide receiver Randy Moss.
