Jaguars officially name Tom Gamble, Ryan Stamper to personnel department

The Jags personnel department has two new members in Tom Gamble and Ryan Stamper.

The Jacksonville Jaguars officially named their coaching staff last week and started this week by officially naming Tom Gamble and Ryan Stamper to their front office. Both had been associated with the Jags’ front office as it was revealed that they would be joining the organization, but they officially have job titles now.

General manager Trent Baalke revealed last month that Tom Gamble had been working in the front office already. Gamble’s decision to join the Jags comes after he was Baalke’s right-hand man during a majority of his time as the San Francisco 49ers’ front office leader from 2011-16.

Gamble’s last stop was in the Canadian football League where he was named the assistant general manager for the Montreal Alouettes in 2020. Unfortunately, the coronavirus pandemic prevented the CFL from having a season and now Gamble is with the Jags.

“Tom and Ryan are key additions to the personnel department,” Baalke said of both new additions. “Tom brings 30 years of NFL experience in player personnel, and, given our extensive history together, his counsel, expertise, and wealth of relationships in the business will help us in every aspect of player acquisition and retention.”

As for Stamper, who is from Jacksonville, he was a former linebacker for Urban Meyer while at the University of Florida. After his college career as a player, he spent eight years working with the Buckeyes under Meyer. His last title with them was as an assistant athletic director of player development.

“As a native of Jacksonville, Ryan knows this area, and his track record of working with young men and preparing them for life on and off the field is impressive and well documented,” Baalke added. “He will play an important role in helping us bridge the gap between player acquisition, player development and player retention. The energy and expertise that both Tom and Ryan bring to the organization will serve us well as we strive to build a winner, both on and off the field, in Jacksonville.”

As a player, Stamper was a two-time captain for Meyer and was on the Gators’ team from 2006-09. Stamper finished his career with 148 total tackles (13.5 for loss), 4.5 sacks, and two picks during his time in Gainesville.

Ryan Stamper leaving Ohio State for Urban Meyer’s staff in Jacksonville

Ohio State will apparently lose one staff member as Urban Meyer assembles his coaching staff in Jacksonville. Ryan Stamper is on the move.

It’s been the question and worry on everyone’s mind once former Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer accepted the head coaching position with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Would Meyer take anyone from the current OSU staff to build his efforts at world NFL domination in JAX?

Turns out, Meyer doesn’t believe that’s in his or Ohio State’s best interest, but he did pull the trigger on one current staff member, Ryan Stamper. Stamper held the post as assistant athletic director of player development in Columbus, but played for Meyer at Florida as a two-time captain, winning national titles in 2006 and 2008.

After a short stint out of football, Stamper was hired on to Ohio State in 2012 where he has been ever since. He helps lead the “Real-Life Wednesdays,” and other initiatives designed to help the athlete balance football and life off the field holistically. His loss is a very underrated one, but appears to be the only staff hit OSU will take from Meyers’f foray back into coaching. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler was the first to report the news.

Stamper is a Jacksonville native, so it’s also an opportunity to come home. It’s hard to blame a guy for that and we wish him the best.

Report: Former Gators LB Ryan Stamper joining Jags as a director of player assessment

Urban Meyer will be bringing a former player of his from Florida to be a part of the Jags’ staff.

Urban Meyer’s staff is in the early stages of development, but fans should expect it to fill up over the next week. There have been many names in which we’ve discuss will/ could join the Jacksonville Jaguars — and it appears he’ll at least have one of his former players onboard.

That former player will be former Gators linebacker and Ohio State athletic director of player development: Ryan Stamper.

Stamper, a Jacksonville native who went to First Coast High, will be taking on a new role in which the Jags previously didn’t have: director of player assessment. While it’s unknown what his exact duties will be, it’s clear he’ll be making player evaluations for his former coach to some degree.

While in Gainesville, Stamper was a two-time captain for Meyer and was on the team from 2006-09. He was able to accumulate 148 total tackles (13.5 for loss), 4.5 sacks, and two picks during his time in blue and orange.

Stamper was with Ohio State’s staff for eight years. According to their site, his role was to be an administrative resource for players in all areas of their development.
