Ryan Stamper leaving Ohio State for Urban Meyer’s staff in Jacksonville

Ohio State will apparently lose one staff member as Urban Meyer assembles his coaching staff in Jacksonville. Ryan Stamper is on the move.

It’s been the question and worry on everyone’s mind once former Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer accepted the head coaching position with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Would Meyer take anyone from the current OSU staff to build his efforts at world NFL domination in JAX?

Turns out, Meyer doesn’t believe that’s in his or Ohio State’s best interest, but he did pull the trigger on one current staff member, Ryan Stamper. Stamper held the post as assistant athletic director of player development in Columbus, but played for Meyer at Florida as a two-time captain, winning national titles in 2006 and 2008.

After a short stint out of football, Stamper was hired on to Ohio State in 2012 where he has been ever since. He helps lead the “Real-Life Wednesdays,” and other initiatives designed to help the athlete balance football and life off the field holistically. His loss is a very underrated one, but appears to be the only staff hit OSU will take from Meyers’f foray back into coaching. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler was the first to report the news.

Stamper is a Jacksonville native, so it’s also an opportunity to come home. It’s hard to blame a guy for that and we wish him the best.
